We made an independent booking with an agent. We were not aware that this hotel caters predominantly for coach parties. There were around 200+ coach party guests and only a handful of individual bookings. Our bedroom, on the third floor, was spacious but had no chest of drawers to unpack clothes into. The room and bathroom were clean, but very old fashioned. There were just two electric sockets which were used for the tv and kettle. No other sockets. Rooms were serviced at irregular intervals. If we required any hotel items, for example toilet rolls, we had to go down three floors to ask at reception. Bins in the room were left unemptied for several days. Towels left in the bath to be changed werenot serviced daily. The hotel caters for parties if over 200 elderly guests, many of which have mobility problems, but there is only one tiny lift which will only accommodate one person with one case to the first floor. We then had to walk along a corridor to reach the next lift to ascend another two floors. On our day of departure both lifts were out of use necessitating carrying several cases down three double sets of stairs. There was no assistance offered by the management. There are just three disabled parking places for all these senior aged guests. A breakfast buffet was available but if you wanted a fried egg you had to walk around the restaurant to find a waitress who would then need to walk to the kitchen to order one. Despite all of this we enjoyed our holiday.

Absolutely appalling experience at the Caledonian Hotel, Isle of Wight. We arrived at 2:50 PM and were still made to wait until 3:05 PM because of their ridiculous “3 PM means 3 PM” policy. When we politely asked if we could check in just 10 minutes early, the receptionist responded rudely and dismissively: “I have told you 3 PM means 3 PM.” There was no courtesy, no flexibility, and certainly no customer service — despite the hotel clearly having plenty of rooms available.

To make matters worse, we requested a table fan on arrival and were told it would be sent to the room within 10 minutes. That never happened. After repeatedly waiting and following up, we only got the fan late in the evening — and even then, we had to go and collect it ourselves from reception.

The staff attitude was cold, rude, and completely unhelpful. Hospitality clearly means nothing here. A hotel stay should feel welcoming, not like you’re inconveniencing the staff by simply asking for basic service. Very disappointing experience and definitely not somewhere I would recommend.

We had a 1 night stay at this hotel as a family of 4 adults. It was quite a convenient stay. The rooms were clean and tidy. The staff was very friendly.
There were quite a number of shops nearby and it was a short walk to the beach and the promenade along it where we could find a good restaurant for our dinner too.

I was delighted with my stay. Yet I suggest that it's clearly mentioned to guests, that it's high up a hill. My body has copd lung disease, it would have been good to know about the hill. Best wishes to all of the staff.

Staff very welcoming, breakfast very good apart from burnt toast. Rooms are quite tired. Windows need replacing as ours did not close, so had to change rooms. Bathrooms retiled, but paintwork on doors and skirtings need cleaning and re-painting. Price was reasonable .

Neglected and ignored.

There was no information whatsoever in our room i.e. Dining Times or contact numbers . I was taken ill overnight and into the whole of next day , tried to obtain Doctor via 111 but gave up . A member of Cleaning staff , , was very helpful , gave us number for Reception and Ferry Company . Reported to Reception being ill but male person offered no help . I managed to bring forward Ferry to next day hoping I would be able to drive . Luckily I felt able to attempt journey home . We struggled with our cases and discovered a Lift that we had not been told about ! I reported to the female receptionist that we felt neglected and she had an entry on a large notepad recording me being unwell and to check on us . Despite this and also never appearing for breakfast or dinner we had paid for , no one contacted us . Very poor management .

Loved the property. Disappointed on returning to room on 2nd day to find it had not been tidied, no clean mugs, no coffee sachets or milk sachets. Asked at reception to be told could have coffee but no milk. Receptionist stated in the middle of something on screen could find some milk in about half an hour and bring to room.
When I called at reception there was a note to say back in 10 minutes so obviously wasn’t in the middle of something. It really spoilt our stay

The room wasn't cleaned, we had to ask for fresh towels ,we had four guests for an evening meal, the four fish meals came with out any vegetables ,no apologies, we asked for some bread, they said no ,very disappointed in meal, which was expensive, no proper coffees for breakfast, could do a lot better.

Clean towels daily, breakfast was OK but not a full continental, staff were miserable & not all helpfull. TV was too small, needs a refurb. No electric car points. Toilet kept running after flushing. Sticker on window saying do not open as broken. Late check in time. Cleaner left door open after cleaning so when we got back we had to check out our room incase anyone else had been in there. Didn't see a yine hoovering the stairways & were dirty. Would not recommend to anyone or stay again as not worth the amount we paid.

Broadway at Sandown, a beautiful country hous stay

I really found a gem when booking an isle of wight trip. These manor houses with a ballroom, dining room, billiard room etc i thought was now only for TV drama but its exactly how you would expect an important house from 1800s to look.

The rooms are spacious and felt really at home, using the lounge area too felt like I had definitely needed a break like this from London. There are gardens outside you would see on a national trust venue. The gardener works very hard. Sitting to observe the country scenery was really needed. I'll plan another break here.

Booking the breakfast buffet was a good idea with walks planned during the day. The food is gorgeous well worth getting up before 9.30. The room service and staff approachability was appraciated. They prioritise the customer. What they do isn't an easy job so do be respectful.

Sandown has few flat roads but i enjoyed the short walks to the town, keats gallery, the rock shop, Flanagans bar with seaview, Glory art Glass making and the gorgeous sandy beach and the Cardamom Indian restaurant/takaway recommended also.
The steam train is a must too.
But you'll miss the sea air and these great shops if stuck in a car getting frustrated trying to find parking.

Finally, I can see why people drive but i enjoyed the train, ferry, local train and short walk from London. Portsmouth en route is worth spending a couple of hours before hopping on the ferry.

You will enjoy the Broadway park hotel, my job was clearly to relax.

No coffee available in the bay after dinner as ‘machine broken’.Disabled spaces need to be on flat ground not the steep incline as at present. This property is quaint and ideally located for a holiday in the isle of Wight. The place is clean and the rooms with terraces are very pleasant to relax on. There is some signs of wear and tear but it's not distracting from the beauty of the surrounding area. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful. We will definitely be back as it's very reasonably priced.

Impolite housekeeping and mismanagement

While we booked the room the amenities mentioned included portable fan … however on check in we were told they don’t have it due to shortage of fans given to other customers… our room was boiling hot and in The end they gave us a super Small fan which I had to personally clean to blow air sufficientl for two people. Secondly, the housekeeping was very rude and insulting and asked us to vacate the room even before checkout time . The icing on the cake was the day before she barged into our room even without knocking for cleaning … I’m appalled with such an experience and mismanagement knowing the amazing legacy of this property

Hotel was heavily worn and not a lot of upkeep seems to have happened.
The windows in our room were filthy inside and out and with black mould growing inside and algae outside. The Juliet balcony was rusted through and paint chipped away.
The bathroom, although new looking had black mould in the shower cubicle and absolutely no water pressure.
The room was not serviced between the days stayed so refreshment were not replenished.
The was no air conditioning, no fridge and no secure place to keep belongings as the room latch did not work.

A beautiful property and grounds that is looking very tired. Deep clean throughout would help as carpets in the corridors and around show their age and woodwork needs some TLC. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Notice needs to be given should you require dinner or breakfast. Standard rooms are okay although the more recent extension to this hotel is more up to date.

When we got there, we were told to wait an extra forty minutes. We were tired, hungry, and just needed a shower.

When we got in the room, it was nice. Clean. However, we expected some cleaning to be done during our stay, but only 1 night out of our 4 was there any cleaning done. There was a lot of rubbish in our room thanks to the bins being so tiny, and we didn't get given fresh towels, so had to use damp towels every night.

The beds weren't too comfy, had quite a stiff neck every morning and the room was stuffy, hot, despite keeping the window open all hours of the day. Not much the hotel can do about that, though.

It was quite noisy on our floor, the walls weren't very good at keeping out the sound, so we could hear our neighbours. Not to mention the doors slammed every time it was opened, causing us to wake up due to the sound being so loud!

The scenery of the hotel was picturesque, though, and relatively quite peaceful.

The hotel is quaint, but a little tired. Dinner is between 5.30 and 6.30 so if you have a day out and want to get showered before eating then forget it (and you have to book in for it before 3pm). Breakfast was lovely. The room was very clean, with it being tidied every day. The shower however was tiny (think sardines in a tin) and it took a while for the water to get warm.

Great quiet location with nice green surroundings, red squirrels easy to spot.
Convenient short walk into Sandown and nice large free car park.

Overall pretty good considering the price you pay. Shower great and a comfortable room for the money. Though doors to the rooms don't shut easily meaning they need a slam, which when people are coming and going every hour slamming your doors you wake up 5 or 6 times in the night. Can also hear your neighbours TV, conversations and singing in the shower due to thin walls. Would be a great property with easy to close doors and some sound insulation between rooms.
