All staff on reception in the Friday night and Saturday at 10pm ish was helpful and kind. Bar man on Saturday very friendly. Hot weather so hot rooms. Had a dab but still hot. But still nice and good parking around and easy walk. Would use again.

It was a night stay, when arrived at the reception the lady just pointed the way to us without good explanation. We have to carry our loads going up the stairs looking gor our room number. Secondly we we brought out the fan it was very dirty and dusty, there wasn't any body wash, the shower head was barely running. There was webs around the bed. There wasn't any socket near the bed. I can't comment on their food as didn't have breakfast and I am glad I didn't. To get a parking space is very difficult too

We had a great stay while visiting The Babbacombe Theatre. Check in was easy, with a very friendly gentleman in reception showing us to our spacious room.
We had a reasonable price drink in the bar before the show. On return we had a good night sleep. With a delicious buffet breakfast in the morning. We will be back!

We have stayed at the Trecarn several times. The staff are always very polite and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. Paying extra for the executive room this time was more than worth it. It is what we will be doing in future. The only minor criticism is that the Wi-Fi reception in the room is virtually none existent, which combined with the poor cell reception in the area meant you had to go near reception if you needed to use your phone. If not for this minor inconvenience it would have been 5 stars instead of 4 stars.

Clean enough room, but very very tired. Shower was dirty and distinct lack or pressure but hotel was fine enough for what I needed.

Breakfast wasn’t great - I’d not bother and go somewhere else. £12 for a breakfast that is a 2/10 at best is overpriced.

Bar closes at 11pm apart from a Saturday where it was shut by 10.

We arrived late on a Thursday evening, our room was small but was tidy and seemed clean, we paid budget so didn’t expect too much. However, we immediately noticed two large cockroaches coming up from under the carpet, my partner went to reception and we got a room change straight away and upgraded to a bigger room on the opposite side of the hotel. The new room was fine and no sign of any bugs so we stayed there for the three nights we’d booked. It wasn’t exactly dirty but it wasn’t spotless and had a bit of a musky smell, so my guess is that it’s an old building and has some damp which attracted the cockroaches, but I’m no expert! Our room was never cleaned while we were there but as we were only there three nights purely to sleep there that didn’t bother us, we had to ask reception for more milk, tea and coffee for the room which they were happy to provide. I think potentially our room wasn’t cleaned because of the change of room, maybe they didn’t know we were in there, or maybe it wasn’t a service included in our price. The bed wasn't very comfortable. The WiFi wasn’t great, I used my data the whole time and my partner had issues with the WiFi dropping off. We didn’t eat at the hotel but the breakfast looked ok, we didn’t use the bar or any of the public areas but they all seemed nice and tidy. The staff were really nice and friendly the whole time. The area for us was ideal, only a short walk to Babbacombe or St Marychurch which is why we chose this hotel.

We were in a small room also the only day light we had was from a small window with frosted glass, you had to have a light on all of the time , right out side the window was a large pipe extracter fan ? Which that went off a couple of times during the night , which was noisy, waking us up, we never complained as the hotel was busy with coaches.
The room got very warm .
We ate in the dining couple of times that was very good , plenty of choice.
Overall apart from the room and always having to go to reception for everything, from towels to loo roll.
The lift was not working, so it was a struggle with cases , up two flights of stairs.

Had to go somewhere to go any catch up work , as no WiFi, asked to be moved to different room not helpful. That was the wordy hotel I stayed in my all travel. Not able to cancelled or move to different hotel 😡.

I have one question for the leadership team at Britannia hotels. Have you ever stayed in any of your hotels ? I have endured a few (you do not ‘enjoy’ a Britannia hotel). The chain seems to specialise in turning potentially lovely buildings into dumps. The staff at the Trecarn were without exception incredible, welcoming and friendly, especially one chap who moved me 3 times due to rooms having leaky ceilings and severe damp. But…..I have never had a good night’s sleep at the Trecarn due to the ridiculously loud squeaky floors in the corridors, slamming doors and absence of any sound insulation between rooms. So I have probably had my last stay at the Trecarn, even though on my last stay I was actually shocked that the bathroom had been renovated and was really nice. It could be a great hotel; it’s time for leaders and managers to take a good hard look at the property and realise its potential. The staff are fantastic; it’s time to make the fabric of the hotel match them.

Adequate stay in Torquay

The Trecarn is a no frills hotel with friendly staff. It is cheap and as long as you mediate your expectations then it’s perfectly acceptable. The bed wasn’t overly comfortable but was clean with paper thin walls to the next room, and the hotel in general is very shabby and outdated. However, we paid what I consider to be a small amount for a twin room in peak season in a popular British holiday destination. Is it the Ritz? Certainly not. Is it perfectly adequate if you just need a bed for a night or two? Absolutely.

Best Budget option in the area

I travel frequently to the South West for work and generally stay here. For the price Trecarn offers a good option. The rooms and general decor is tired, but it is clean, the rooms are secure and the showers are hot and powerful. There is a bar and restaurant and there is outdoor seating when its hot. The hotel generally caters to coach holidays so it needs to meet a certain standard. There is on street parking around the hotel and there are takeaways, pubs and a tesco within a short walk. Its not luxury, but compared to the budget options in the Torquay town centre the Trecarn is miles better.

Not impressed run down hotel .. had to more rooms as noise in pipes and wasn’t going out with that all night .. moved to a room right next to set of stairs so noisy and got given a room with a shower and no bath where shower head wasn’t clicked on properly and nearly landed on my head as could t put it up on holder no clip and also the shower cubicle could of done with a proper clean to so much mould .. mentioned it all to staff on reception wasn’t to bothered what I said and unhappy I was and no compenstation offered .. sleepiness night .. OH ATTENTION .. no parking on site and road gets very busy as states there’s parking but they have closed their car park off to put benches out there for people to drink !! doesn’t help people that are disabled either …

The biggest plus about this property is the staff: they were wonderful, both at check-in and at check-out. The lobby area is large and inviting, and well-lit. Rather than having on-site parking, the property chose to turn the hotel forecourt into outdoor seating with picnic tables. While sitting outside might be nice in the wamer summer months, not having on-site parking is a negative: the hotel sits on a residential street, so street parking nearby is at a premium.

The bedroom corridor and bedroom itself immediately brought to mind a hotel I stayed at in Cornwall in the 1970s. Both were clean and properly maintained, but a renovation would not go amiss: the wall paper was very 1970s!

The bed was comfortable as were the pillows, and the comforter was great: I slept like a baby!

The bathroom, however, was minute, and that is not an exaggeration. It was a squeeze to get into the shower, and as a 6'1\", 250 lb woman, there was barely room in the shower stall to get washed. Given the size of room overall, there would have been plenty of room to increase the size of the bathroom without taking away any of the spaciousness of the bedroom.

Overall, this hotel served its purpose as a low-budget, affordable overnight stay, and I would certainly choose to stay here again.

You get what you pay for!

The hotel was cheap and it shows. We were staying to visit family so it was somewhere to sleep and shower so was adequate for our needs. It’s very tired and need a major investment to bring it upto a reasonable standard. That being said, it was warm and clean and for what we paid, we didn’t have high hopes. Staff were extremely professional and friendly and the one reason I would return! It was out of season so I would hope that there would be more to offer in season.

The check in experience was great with friendly staff at reception. The room however not so great. I have stayed here twice before and was always given a comfortable room. The bed was so hard that I barely slept. The pillows werent much softer. The room was tatty although for the price I wouldnt expect anything more. Sad to say i won't return.

When i arrived there was no one on reception. I hung aroung waiting no message to say if anyone would be back, eventually i got the bar man to check me in. The room was comfortable and had everything that was needed for my stay,. In the morning i had a shower the side glass leaked so floor was soaked and even after running for about 25 minutes water was only Luke warm, i reported this to reception was advised to try other times of day and or to run sink tap at same time, neither of these methods worked so not hot shower during my stay. Other than that would happly stay here again, is clearly a coaching hotel... breakfastcwas very nice hot food and good service, friendly staff!

Trecarn was anice hotel in its day, sadly in need of renovation, however ground floor windows have been recently replaced with new double glazed windows. Price is cheap, however the heating is rarely on, need to get mobile oil heater to warm up room. good resturant and choice of meals. Lift is tempermental, rarely worked over last two/three years, however at last visit I was told that they have spend quite a bit of money on repairing lift and they hope it is fixed now. A cheap hotel for overnight stay

This caused a bit of a problem getting to the hotel after midnight and only having cash, but luckily was resolved and the staff were great about it in fairness. First impression as you pull up, were not great,the hotel looks a little tierd and dated ,could do with a lick of paint, and a bit of a tidy up.
We rocked up to reception, fella sitting on a chair, never really said 2 words , we said we are checking in, name ,we then filled in a form, key was given, .what happened to ,good Evening, welcome to The Trecarn Hotel, customer service seems to have gone out the window, and your supposed to put up with what they dish out, well not me.
Room was small and compact, a few cobwebs on the lights, and radiator, the garden out the back ,had plates and cup outside, and they were still there when we left sunday morning doesn't really create a good impression. Shower was decent, and it served a purpose, would i stay there again, no i would'nt, would i recommend it, no i wouldnt.

Pleasant place for a weekend break.

The hotel looks a bit run down and the rooms are basic and in need of redecoration. However, every member of staff was helpful and courteous. There was entertainment each evening and the public areas were comfortable. There had clearly been some investment recently as the shower was new and that was great. There is tea and coffee in the room and can be replenished at reception. In all, for the price, this is a pleasant place to stay and it is close to the town.

The condition of hotel is old and needs updating. There was no curtain door and shower curtain was small so i had to put towels outside in order not too get too wet.
There was no room service every day...probably trying to save money.
I would stay because of location but overall i was disappointed as clearly no money is being spent on the property.

\"You get what you pay for\" is the perfect adage for this hotel. One night stay in single room. Bit damp, bit musty, so small the bathroom door opened halfway before hitting the bed, ground floor window didn't open. Black mould in shower, and lovely view of the gas cylinders out back. But for £33, the sheets were clean and the bed adequate, and once the loud, live, Sunday \"entertainment\" had stopped at 10pm and the room on the other side of the paper thin walls had turned off their TV, sleep was found.

Couldn't wait to leave

No parking available we had to park about half a mile away I am disabled and had to carry my bags and cases up a hill. Then the actual room was up and down stairs and a long narrow long passages. Had to keep curtains closed as the room was overlooked. Was insulted by another guest on the way in because of my clothing. Will not recommend and definitely never stay there again.

Good for the price

All generally good just some areas of the building are dated/ rooms, & the beds are very firm, would benefit with foam topper would make them more comfortable until replaced.
The parking is a bit hit & miss as it's on street parking.
