This was such a lovely place to stay!! The property is less than a block from the beach, with views from the balcony and beach chairs and towels available to borrow to take to the beach. The breakfast was delicious and freshly made. The vibes were impeccable. I would stay here again and again.

Unclean bathroom

Room was fine but bathroom was literally a renovated closet. Very small. Sink was in the room. Shower was old, rust on floor molding and just not clean. Hair in drain, walls had soap slime. I complained the next morning and the person on duty told me it was a new housekeeper. They didn’t offer me a discount at all. Also I paid for an ocean view which was one small window looking out to the side. A porch runs along the front of the house and if someone sits out there (and someone did) they were right outside my room and could see in. So I had to keep shades closed. They charge you a partial fee for beach passes instead of offering them for free. Mediocre breakfast.

The Lillagaard was delightful, overall. I enjoyed seeing the ocean from a corner room. The innkeeper and all other staff were professional, respectful, kind, and approachable. My room was charming, although small. I'd expected a table or desk, which it didn't have, nor could it fit one. The bed was very high up, which was fun, and slept magically. I never had a problem with wifi or noise. My room was adjacent to an upper level shared porch; if the weather had not been rainy, noise would have been an issue; they should alert people booking that room. Breakfast was a tasty mix of consistent standards with an occasional extra surprise (plantains, once). They could stand to vary the meat proteins, tho, i.e. turkey and/or chicken sausage alongside the pork and ham. I greatly appreciated the coffee/tea station and ample fridge, stocked with multiple types of creamers, w/plenty of room for takeout and drinks. The property was clean and well-kept for a building of its age (a little over 150 y/o). I own a very old house, so I am sympathetic to what maintenance involves, especially so near the ocean. That said, the wallpaper and woodwork in my room needed some attention in spots. Water rushing thru the bathroom pipes from the floor above rattled me for a day, but I adjusted. Not a problem; old houses are a big part of Ocean Grove's charm.

Wonderful B&B with cozy atmosphere. Hosts super helpful and friendly. Breakfast ample. Loved that Theresia tea and coffee available to make any time. Fridge shared for guests to keep their food. Wine fridge. The hosts provide beach towels, beach chairs, sunbrellas. You can get beach passes at lower cost than on-line. Three porches. Literally steps from beach and easy walk to Main Street. If your room is available, you can extend your stay to the late afternoon and have another full beach day. Parking on street was not an issue.

Cute b and b Victorian style. Beach close by. Parking a nightmare but it’s the Shore in summer. I knew I had a twin bed but had forgotten how small they were. That would’ve been fine but you could feel the springs through the mattress and the bed had a bit of a tilt. Window covers were roll up plastic blinds that didn’t roll right. I tried to use the AC but it was right beside the bed and I couldn’t manage the noise. Ceiling fan and a sea breeze worked. The closet was in the bathroom. And after a shower the bathroom was full of mist. I had to crouch down to get under the shower head. I was only here one night but was told there would be snacks and tea making ability in the basement area. But when I returned at 10.30pm that area was in total darkness. Maybe put something in the lobby area so guests have better access? I had to leave before breakfast at 8am. But wasn’t offered a snack to take with me. No fridge. It appeared none of the rooms did so you had to mark your items and put them in a fridge in the lobby. The bedside lamp was so dim I couldn’t see. Thankfully the fan light was bright enough to read by. As a result, I headed off to my volunteer work with little sleep, a very sore back and hungry

The Lillagarrd B&B gets 2 stars from me. I would not recommend staying here. The host was unfriendly and would not upgrade my room even though I was of course going to pay for the upgrade - no matter what the cost. I was told they could not do it because I booked thru Expedia. The lodging was old and unkept. The bathroom had no sink to wash your hands. The shower had black mildew. It was terrible. Our room, unknown to us, was on the 4th floor - 4 flights of steps - no elevator. This should be told to prospective guests before booking. The \"amenities\" were items that I would never use - i.e. not even from the dollar store - less than that. We had a shared bathroom and was to be with one other room sharing - but any guest could (and did) use it.
NO RECOMMENDATION FOR THIS B & B - I would not list this.

All the things that matter...The Lilligaard has.

There are a few things I look for while at a shore-town B&B, and I found each of them at The Lillagaard: friendly, helpful staff; a good bed; close to the beach; a hearty breakfast, and a welcoming, comfortable covered porch with the breeze wafting by. I rocked and sipped tea out on the porch, watching the people passing by when I got back from the beautiful beach. Heavenly.

This is an old-fashioned inn with all the qualities that people have always loved in the best inns: very kind friendly people who run the Inn, wonderful places to relax both outside (a large porch and two other sizable balconies) and inside (lovely common rooms with books and games and a piano and flat screen TV and a beautiful diningroom with coffee and tea available day and night). The breakfast was great, the amenities incredible and rooms comfortable and clean. This Inn is a perfect example of what attention to detail, in terms of comfort, aesthetics, design and civility, can achieve.

Charming B&B with an old English feel. 2 minutes walk to ocean, 10 minutes walk to Main Street restaurants, 20 minutes walk on boardwalk to Asbury Park restaurants. No need for a car. The hotel is old with creaky stairs and classic furniture but everything works, friendly staff, and an on-site ice cream store.

Lilligaard nice but not for anyone with mobility issues

Our stay was okay, except for the multiple fights of steep stairs. The building is a a nicely restored antique with no attention to the needs of folks with mobility issues. The are facilities on 4 different floors. When told about or mobility issues there was no offer made to change our room. The view of the ocean was outstanding. The food was adequate, but not to the scale of a B & B. The room was clean and the bed was cast iron.

The B&B was built in 1871 and, despite updates, had the charm and limitations of an old building. It was steps from the beach and a couple of short blocks from Main Street, so very convenient.

My husband and I are both in our 60’s and they gave us a room on the 4th floor There isn’t an elevator so we had to walk up 4flights with our luggage The last flight was very narrow and steep Much to our surprise they told us that we had to share the toilet and shower with another family and that was 1 floor down The pictures of the rooms were nothing like the actual room we didn’t even stay the night We found another place to stay (luckily) so we went to get our luggage and left When we left no one was at the desk or in the vicinity so that we could discuss our issues, so we placed the keys at the desk and left We haven’t received a call or any kind of communication from the owners I don’t know if we can recoup some of our money (since we had to pay to stay elsewear) but the Inn is very deceiving in the photos and we were very disappointed !!!!

What an absolute gem! Everything about this place is worth the stay. Beautiful views, clean and cozy rooms, wonderful porches to relax on. Incredible hot breakfast each and every morning. The staff is super friendly and engaging. I had a single room with my own private bath, super clean, comfy and cozy. The Ice Cream shop down below was an added bonus and made for a nice evening treat each and every day. I stayed for 4 days and didn't want to leave. Great location, close to the beach and shops - everything is within walking distance. Highly recommend the Lillagaard and I know it is now my go to place when staying in the Ocean Grove Asbury Park area.

The public areas, including living room, dining room and large porches, were beautiful and very well kept. The breakfast was delicious. Our room was very sunny and appealing. The neighborhood was lovely. The owners made every effort to accommodate guests, including providing beach chairs, beach towels and umbrellas; having coffee and tea available all day and night; providing a refrigerator for guests to store food and a microwave for them to heat food, as well as a wine cooler; and providing a welcoming, friendly atmosphere.

My son and I decided last minute to go on a little get away together . We have never done an Inn before! The parking was a bit difficult you must keep circling to find a spot and if you aren’t practiced in parallel parking .. then it may take longer. Lol. ( as was my case) We eventually found a spot! No valet parking and no helpers to get your luggage in the house but.. our host was kind enough to help us up the stairs to a quaint two twin bedroom in which we were staying:) we are completely accustomed to staying in 5 star posh hotels and walking in we didn’t know what to expect.. BUT.. the inn has a different unique feel to it. You have a house full of people but you would never know it by day… at night you see people trickle in and congregate on the beautiful porches. You chat and it’s very.. sweet. In the morning you wake up to a breakfast downstairs. An great spread of food. It amazed me in the morning learning just how many people were staying here! Mostly couples or older folk, my son was probably the youngest person at the inn. I think in hindsight people choose the inn because it’s so quiet. We loved the mini ice cream shop with homemade ice cream and loved the entire town of Victorian houses. We had a really nice mother/son getaway and would recommend. You just have to realize if you are used to the 5 star hotels .. know you are waking into a “home”. It’s an “experience”

The place i really nice, very near to the beach, breakfast is great.

The place is good, very relaxing and calm and you can feel the fresh air at the terrace, the beach can be viewed in the window of my room where I stayed as well as in the terrace. The beach is just a walking distance where I was able to had a walk late in the afternoon and early morning, and very safe. The negative part that needs improvement is the toilet the smell is not good i think needs to be clean regularly but overall its a good place to stay.

Very nice property! We had an ocean view room on the second floor and we could watch the waves from our bed. We loved the balcony on our floor as well and utilized it often during our stay. We had our morning coffee there and at night brought a bottle of wine out. Super relaxing and beautiful views of the ocean. The breakfast was also excellent w a nice variety. Beach towels ans chairs are provided. A community wine cooler, fridge and glasses are also provided. We were close to the beach and shops. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return and recommend to friends.

Elegant and cozy

Beautiful porches with ocean view. Breakfast each day was different and delicious. Ice cream store attached. Short Walking distance from Main Street shopping and restaurants. Owners were very attentive.
