Do not stay here. Rooms/ hallways reek of cigarettes . 3/4 of the individuals staying there seem to be “long-term” which you can tell. Staff sleeping at front desk (literally). Absolutely terrible . Couldn’t wait to get home and shower

Absolutely terrible. 3/4 seems to be “long-term” stays which you can tell . Got to my floor and whole entire floor reeked of cigarette smoke. Walked into my room and the same . Asked if this was non smoking and individual responded “supposed to be”. I said well maybe it’s the people that are sitting out front all smoking, flowing through the AC/ half the windows are open too and was told that doesn’t happen (saw it frequently ) . If I wasn’t there for a 36 hour trip I would’ve booked something else and got out of there . Went to go check out and the girl at the front desk was sleeping in the chair at 6am. Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at

I have no complaints about the hotel itself, but I do have a complaint about the room's advertising. I paid for the 1 bedroom suite with a queen-sized bed and a let-out sofa. When I arrived, I was told that they no longer had those accommodations. If it’s not available, it should not be advised as an option. The hotel staff apologized for the inconvenience and did their best to make it right.

I meet a homeless person in the lobby on the night I check in. Found many construction workers and Amazon guy went into the pantry to get coffee in the morning. That’s why there are many construction truck parked in the parking lot and leave early in the morning. Probably they are living in Candlewood.

My friend checked in and open the room and found a woman living on the same room. They have to change room twice at the late arrival at 12:00am. It was so ridiculous!!

Another friend found death cockroach inside bathroom!

I will never come back Candlewood in South bend . It is the worst place I stayed in my life! Don’t go!

The staff was nice. Saturday was a bit a mess as they where super busy due to the concert.

The rooms were okay, housekeeping was not a strong point. We moved chairs and found food under them.

I would have expected a little more with the price we paid.

It appears that there are a lot of regular guest, I am guessing from construction/ electrical type workers.

Very disappointing

People were panhandling at the Hotel. I am disabled. There were no signs designating disability parking. On the ground there were faded blue painted wheelchairs indicating that it appeared to be “handicapped parking” there were no signs no posts to indicate the spot in front was in fact for handicapped. The cars that were parked in those spots none of them had placards and I don’t blame the people parking in those spots, there just wasn’t any signage. Last night we stayed at the LaCrosse WI, plenty of parking for all, the rooms were immaculate and the staff at LaCrosse were very kind. We continue to use Candlewood, but will never return to the South Bend site I didn’t feel safe and the parking was not acceptable.

The stay was good, however didn't like the fact my credit card was already charged for the stay and was not allowed to pay cash. The purpose of requesting pay at the hotel is why I chose this location.
Left for the evening once returned no parking we made up our parking space.
Otherwise the stay was great.

This room comes with a refrigerator that I needed to unplug at 2:30 a.m because of the noise.
I was hardly sleeping anyway because of insect bites from the bed.
It was a horrible night.
When I checked out, I told the front desk person but he clearly didn’t care.
Don’t stay here!

The room was very nice..a few things missed, towel behind the door and kitchen sink not rinsed after cleaning. Staff was amazing for check in and out!
However the reservation process was a complete disaster! I went thru Hotels.com reserved 4 rooms, requested to pay on arrival ( it was a choice on the site) Two weeks prior to arrival the hotel tried to charge my card for all 4 rooms! I spoke with 3 different members of staff over 5 days several times and received a different answer from each person each time! One charge was able to go thru and it was lost in cyberspace for 5 days!
Then the morning we were to arrive my card was hit 5 more times for the $50 incidentals charge before we even arrived! Again I called and told them another card would be used upon arrival and it was still hit 2 more times!
Lastly each person placed their own card/payment for the room before arrival so their would be no more mistakes, yet at 10:30pm when the last of our party arrived she was told there was no room for her, even tho she had an email confirmation as well as a receipt for payment. Fortunately she was able to get a room, but the entire ordeal with your facility and lack of consistency make this place a NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!

This property was very expensive (I am sure due to being near Univ of ND) but it smelled like smoke in the entry and in the room. The conditioner in the shower was empty (didn’t realize it until i was IN the shower and couldn’t call the front desk). The dishes in the kitchenette were dirty and glass was broken. Highly overpriced for the quality of the hotel.

We booked two rooms through Expedia when we arrived we were told Expedia had only reserved one room. that was not true since we had the receipt. the Woman who apparently owns the place was outright nasty to us. She claimed that since we booked through a \"third party\" she had no control over it and we were out of luck.

Nice people, parking lot was weird

Rooms were clean, employees were very kind and helpful. But, the parking lot looks like it had a couple had broken down cars that have been there for a while and people hanging out in there cars at all hours of the night. I would definitely not feel comfortable taking a family there or heading into the hotel a night.

Also, check out is not until 11am, yet housekeeping was knocking by 10:30 to get in, which was frustrating. Your site said I was getting a specific style of room, and upon check in was told your site booked me a “whatever is available room”, which left me sharing a bed with my father instead of a pull out clinch. Great room: huge bedroom/kitchen area with full fridge, microwave, and two burner stove- none of that was needed for my one night stay, but it was nice if you were to be staying longer. This hotel was really bad and I would never stay at it again. I reserved a double and was put into a single. The ice maker didn't work, the comforter had stains on it. Kids were running up and down the hallway at night. Groups of people congregates outside the front door s.oking and cussing. The overall stay was terrible and I couldn't wait to leave.

Late Night Surprise Visitor!

The front desk staff were very friendly, as were the housekeeping staff. The room/kitchenette was well supplied. There was a very large stain on the carpet but, other than that, the room was clean-beds weren't very comfortable though. The only thing that made our stay less than enjoyable was a late night visitor. The interior lock on the door was missing a piece, so we couldn't lock that in addition to the automatic locking door. A little before 11 p.m., when we were sound asleep, someone burst into our room and scared us to death. They noticed it was occupied and left. When we mentioned it in the morning, staff apologized, but there was no explanation given. I'm not sure how they ended up with a key to our room.

Easy check-in. In typical Candlewood style they had items for sharing (books, cookware, board games, etc). Suite format unfortunately did not provide for a separate room but kitchen space was nice. Not much in the immediate area so ND and restaurants require a short drive. Overall decent stay and good value for the money.

Every staff member had a smile and warm greeting for us. The room was so spacious, clean and functional. We were allowed to check in early and pick where we wanted our room. A shuttle to the Notre Dame campus was offered. No better way to say it: I am from the Deep South. I drove 11 hours north and found as much warm hospitality at Candlewood Suites in South Bend, Indiana, as we pride ourselves on in the South. We will stay there again.
