This hotel was a great find and within walking distance to many museums, the river and Ubahn / Sbahn stops. The restaurant attached to the hotel is also great - but otherwise dining options are about 25 mins walk toward the city centre. Would stay again!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Living Hotel Kanzler. The terrace was great, the room was lovely, the free beers were enjoyed. The location was easily walkable to our conference at the WCCB, as well as many great museums in Bonn. The room rates were fair, and I recommend the terrace upgrade.

The room was well-maintained, clean and well-equipped. My bathroom was with bathtub which I really appreciate, during my stay, the fitness was available at 24/7, but the sauna/ spa is unfortunately under renovation. The mini bar in the room is free, bottle opener, glasses and water boiler are provided in the room which should be a basic thing but many hotels in Germany tend to neglect it.
The front-desk was friendly and polite.

All in all, I had a good time during my stay, everything was great and I wish I could stayed for longer.

Excellent place to stay in Bonn

The stay was excellent. Staff is curteous and very professional. They are willing to go the extra mile to help guests. The room is spacious and super clean. And they even offer drinks (including two beers) daily curtesy of the hotel. There is a cinema which has free movies once a week.
The only bummer is that all TV channels were german. But aside from that it was a great experience!

The Aircondition in the hotel were not working, and the weather temperature at the time, makes it unbearable to have afternoon nap. The Aircondition wasn’t fix throughout our stay in the hotel. The staffs are excellent. They are very welcoming and polite.

Nice functional hotel, short walk to the Rhine which is lovely to walk along. Free beer & water in mini bar is a nice touch. Also the mini kitchen in the room was interesting and could be a plus for those who have the need to put it to use. Only minor feedback was the air con did not go as cold as I like even when turned down to below 5C, although temp was bearable. Staff were very helpful and a credit to the hotel!

The air conditioning system was broken when I arrived. Due to the heat wave, the room was boiling hot. The A/C was not going to be fixed before my departure, but this information was not provided upfront by the hotel. After suffering two miserable nights, I requested a refund for the final night, which was refused (was told that if the reservation was done through a third party (i.e., Expedia), it needs to be sorted with the third party). I cut my losses and booked myself into the Marriott.

The room I was given was supposed to be quiet, as it faced the back but it was claustrophobically small. Plus, when I opened the window I looked out on a court yard with several delivery vans and several workmen were holding loud conversations. When I asked for a bigger room I was shown one and told that they all face the big traffic street and opening the window would be a constant traffic soundtrack. It was very warm on that day and I asked for the AC to be turned on as it was stuffy and uncomfortable in the room. I was told that the AC does not come on until end of May no mater what the temperature. This struck me as very strange. I had also called ahead from NY to explain I had allergies and ask if it was possible to get almond milk. I was told that this would be no problem. However when I asked for it for coffee on the day I arrived, jet lagged and dealing with all the room issues, I was told there was none in any of the 3 kitchens. (I waited for the one receptionist who was there to search for it, even this was in the mid day, and it seemed strangely understaffed.) I also noticed that the white curtains in my room were full of stains. I ended up packing my belongings and, even though it was the last thing I had planned on doing, moved to another hotel.

Hotel from a bygone era - To be avoided

Great reception staff but not much else to write home about. This hotel is dated and could do with a good clean. It has become quite shabby and is not particularly well-managed. Parking is a bit of a challenge as the gate does not work properly. The room we were offered was ridiculously small and left us asking for an upgrade. The doorlock did not work properly and presented us with frequent trips to the lbby to have the keys re-programmed. Breakfast is decidely underwhelming as is general cleanliness. On one day we got no room cleaning at all and had to find someone to give us clean towels (at least). Most of all, nobody really seemed to care

My worst satay ever at Derag Hotel Kanzler

My stay at Derag Hotel Kanzler was disappointing. My room was hardly ever cleaned. My phone's charge went missing. The worse experience was when someone was given access to my room in the middle of the night....how? I dont know I never felt secured from that day.

The Derag was a nice hotel, but the cleaning staff need to lift their game. No tissue replacement, no soap replacement, a dirty cup not washed for two days, no tea bags replaced and a blood stain on the wall not cleaned off for the whole stay. disappointing.

English is not spoken here. Kitchenette was not equipped - appliances, but no dishes/cookware. Room is stuffy with poor ventilation, or ventilated by a large window with no privacy. On the bright side, the location was within walking distance of cultural sites and public transit. Room was large and spacious, if a little quirky. Nice fitness facilities.

The world's worst service

I have never seen service quite so incompetent. I was working in my room during my first day there, and had the privacy sign on the door. The room was therefore not cleaned, which is fine. But then it took me 3 phone calls over the course of 7 hours to get clean towels brought to the room. In addition, the room, like most others in the hotel, has a balcony connected to other balconies. Employees walk on them without warning at different times of day, which is scary and a total violation of privacy. The kicker was the gym, which is simply never cleaned. The pile of used towels there had long since overflowed the bin and spilled onto the floor. One day I went in to find an open bottle of beer on a bench there.

I'd stayed here once before, 3 nights this time. Room overlooked a main road, but I'm a good sleeper. Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast is a bit overpriced at 16€.

Computers went glitchy around when I need to check out, but staff took details and forwarded invoice later.

The circustance is good. The silence even infront of a big street conforts. The breakfast is also good with various food stuffs. I had a business meeting in Koln city, however the hotel in Koln was very expensive due of the trade fair. It was a lucky to stay this hotel anyway.

We stayed in Bonn to see an exhibition, and booked this hotel mainly for its location. The staff were the most helpful and friendly I've ever come across, and did their best to overcome the very small problems in our room (no reading light, communicating door to next-door room unlocked). The decor of the hotel is in the gold, glass, mirrored, sharp-edged, over-designed and visually crashing style, with a bizarre functionless bed canopy in our room, but it was very comfortable, and we got an excellent last minute reduction of 50%.

Nice hotel but far from food

I have stayed at this hotel several times before. It is clean and modern. It is convenient to the Museum Koenig and several other museums and government buildings (which is why I choose it). The only downside is that it is a 20 minute walk from anything else in Bonn, including places to eat ... and the breakfast at the hotel, although highly varied, costs more than a typical dinner at a modest restaurant.

The hotel was located conveniently on the subway line and was easily accessible from the main train station in Bonn. The decor was nice, and the room was comfortable, but it was a bit difficult to sleep when the outdoor temperature was high because of lack of options for controlling the climate. Nevertheless, the room was fairly large and the free items from the mini bar was a great touch. I was there during a conference and some of the guests were very demanding of the front desk employees, but the employees remained pleasant. One of the young ladies who worked during breakfast was especially friendly and courteous. I would definitely recommend staying there.

We found the hotel to be excellent. The service was welcoming, room was well laid out and clean, it was quiet, the location was excellent being so close to the efficient underground into Bonn ( or a 15 min walk). There was free beer and water and the pack of Haribo bears on arrival was a lovely touch. Breakfast seemed a little expensive but it was a buffet so you could eat plenty. Our very small challenge was no batteries in the TV remote control, but even when batteries were added the control still didn't work! I would recommend the hotel and stay again if I was in the area.

Hotel is only 2mins walk from Museum Konig U Bahn station, which is only 8mins from Hbf. Had meeting next day with EBA which is on the same U Bahn line, so very convenient for me. Arrived 5pm, friendly welcome, given single room on first floor. Unfortunately the interconnecting door with the next room is not soundproof, so could hear couple talking in next room: I made earplugs. Bed comfortable, room not overheated for December weather (some are). Big range of German cable channels, a few English business channels, some French and a few Arabic. Ended up watching Star Trek DS9 in German, before switching to BBC. Be warned, the breakfast is extra (tiny bit of a shock), though it is a first rate breakfast (though not as good as the legendary Spanish Parador ones), the bread rolls are wonderful, as was the scrambled eggs. Nothing much else to say except that I would choose to stay there again when I have to visit the EBA in Bonn next year.

Not quite what we expected

A bit disappointed with the TV channels. In the write up it said there was something called the Movie Zone which actually was 4 channels (one of which was info-mercials) that showed random movies not all of which were good for children and all channels had bad reception. Parking was a challenge. We arrived at 3:00pm but were told there was no parking and that we'd have to park 4 blocks away. When we were finally able to park it was very hard to find the entrance.

Despite booking being accidentally given away we had a great stay in the hotel with helpful staff who sorted us out with a fantastic apartment. If you want one of these couldn't be better.

U Bahn next door and on Museum Mile near river. Great Location.

Bonn has lots to see - city tour had a very good lady leading it and was booked up even in October. We only had 2 days which was far too short. Good technical museums, Theatre, Museum of Germany since 1945 and the obligatory modern art museum which is - well very modern - etc etc.

Station area looks a bit downmarket at night if you arrive late. Taxi driver we had used level crossing to increase earnings - but what do you expect!

So well maintained, so detailed in the appearance and ameneies, with an impressive gallerie of pictures from the former visitors of politcal background .. all that did make us feel somehow special. Superherb breakfast, which was included in our room price at booking, made the one night stay close to perfect - thank to the team in the hotel again!!!!

We stayed at this hotel for four nights. We discovered that the door to the adjacent room was unlocked when the people in that room entered our room during the night. We were shocked and appalled. Our room had been accessible for two days, but we had been unaware of our own vulnerability. The management was somewhat helpful, but didn't share our sense of personal impact. We were given an \"upgrade,\" to an room which was unconnected, but somehow we didn't feel that they got the message. The facilities are not extraordinary but the lack of care and personal consideration were. Overall, we were disappointed.

We were very disappointed when we were signed out & we were booked for 2nd night. On our return from Bonn city, the room was in a mess. We asked the cleaner to leave it, as we were getting ready for a wedding. We were told the room would be tidied up when we returned. We returned at 1.30am , 2nd Sept & it was just as it had been left. towels etc on the floor. Otherwise we had no other complains.

Tried another room with the same lack of success and there wasn't a maintenance person available to assist in figuring it out. Then - on top of this discomfort - a 14 Euro hidden charge to park the car.

I booked this hotel as a Hogmanay/New Year city break for a party of four adults.The hotel
advertises a bar and restaurant on site,however as we discovered to our horror on arrival
these facilities are not available during the period 23/12/11. to 08/01/12. due to annual holiday leave (a fact that is not publicised or mentioned prior to booking) and we were left staying in a property that is a good fifteen to twenty minute walk from the city centre and the nearest bars/restaurants.The rooms are big and spacious and kept in a very clean condition.The staff in general were nice and spoke very good english until we made our complaint then it was a different attitude completely, in our case duty managers were not
available until after the time of our return flight to Scotland ( Three days later )The hotel boasts 150 rooms,only 20 guests were booked during our stay.A quiet place to stay,within reasonable distance to city centre but not recommended during Festive period

The Derag Hotel Kanzler was a great place to stay. It was very clean, with a nicely furnished room. Both the room and the bathroom were in excellent condition. It is also a few steps to the Metro/U-Bahn. There isn't anything else in the neighborhood though, with shops, parks, and restaurants at least a 15 min walk away.

My wife and I stayed at this Hotel Kanzler for 3 days and we were very satisfied with the quality of this hotel which offered everything you would expect from a good hotel: a good service, a very quiet and comfortable room, cleanliness, a free sauna (very clean!) with a relaxing room. In 15 min. you can even walk to the city center or take the nearby underground in 5 min.
Unfortunately, you had to pay extra for Wi-Fi which is available in the lobby.
I would choose this hotel again!

A reasonable business hotel -

A reasonable business hotel - clean, well decorated and in good order.

Customer service attitude was dissapointing and not what would be expected of a 130 Euro/night hotel.
Single rooms are a single narrow bed (with the corners cut off and shortened) and are smaller than I would expect.
There is no air conditioning (the hotel either has air cooling in summer of heating in winter) given that the hotel had the heating on and it was a warm late October day in a warm hotel the only way to make the room cooler was to open a window onto the noise outside.
Overall needs updating and attitude needs attending to.
Italian restaurant attached serves good food and is reasonably priced although the manager seems to have been infected with the poor attitude bug.

We booked this hotel with a special promotion offer from Expedia. It was a very good deal and we were very satisfied with the small apartment style arrangement. They have a super breakfast.

Not in the centre of Bonn

The only slight downside is that the hotel is not at the city centre, so you're restricted to hotel breakfast (good but a bit expensive). However, it is next to an underground stop and 3 stops away from the centre.

The buffet breakfast was excellent. The hotel was right next to a museum and
4 stops to the HBF (main train station in Bonn). The rooms were updated and spacious. The train station was only a 2 minute walk away.

An undiscovered gem

Lovely hotel, in the Museum Mile where we wanted to be. It is a 20 minute walk into the centre of town, but worth it. Head up Adenauer and turn right to the bank of the Rhine at the first opportunity (just after the Dresden Bank). Enjoy the view. Walk along riverbank and then follow the sign to the town centre up some steps and through the park past the university.

Excellent room, so glad we booked here!!!

After a long drive from Cornwall to Bonn ( for a friends wedding) via the Eurotunnel we were delighted when we arrived at the hotel. Very plush!!. Grabbed the key to our room and we were even more delighted. A lovely size room with air con., sofa etc. No noise at all over the weekend to disturb us/stop us catching up on sleep. (unlike some of the other wedding guests which used a different hotel). Nice breakfast. The room even has a small kitchen should you wish to self cater. Incredible at the price. Really puts English hotels/prices to shame. We have paid twice this in the uk for what was a dirty linen cupboard. Recommended.

would go back

I had asked for twin beds but they do not have them so we ended up with a single extra bed set up in the sitting area. finally tried to sleep both in the queen sized bed. Mattress very comfortable for two so would not have problem in future.breakfast excellent, personnel very friendly and helpful.

The check in was very smooth, the room was very good, a lot of space and comfortable. They charge for the dog stay, but at least they offer a pillow, water and food pots and snacks to my dog. I really appreciated it.
