Amazing location and beautiful hotel. The room was clean and tidy and had a lovely mix of being modern with traditional Japanese elements. The staff were extremely helpful and the hotel had great amenities. Location unbeatable - all city buses to major attractions were right outside!

The check in process was easy and smooth at the Hotel Resol Kyoto Kawaramachi Sanjo. The staff were extremely professional. The moment you walk into the discreet front entrance, you feel you had entered another realm with ambient lighting, gentle music and soft room fragrance that so calming and relaxing. It turned out to be a fantastic base for exploring the city. The location is perfect. Easy access to multiple subway stations and surrounded by plenty of restaurants, shops, and bars. The room size is average for Japan standards but for those that prefer and used to larger rooms, just be aware. The ambient moody lighting was beautiful but there were times where we struggled and needed some bright lights. Overall, it was very nice and value for money. I loved the pyjamas that was offered during your stay. It was so soft and comfortable. I wanted to purchase a paie but forgot when I left.

I slept incredibly well here — super cozy atmosphere, perfect darkness, and very comfortable bedding. The front desk team was exceptionally kind and professional and made my stay smooth and enjoyable. Everything was spotless, with free coffee & tea and laundry facilities. Amazing central location. The location of the hotel is perfection… within easy walking distance to great food, transport, shopping & attractions. I am shocked that there are good reviews for this hotel at this price-point. They do not clean the rooms, both during your stay and apparently generally. This is presented to guests as an “eco-friendly” practice, however everything in the room is packaged in plastic, so clearly this is just a cost-saving measure. Our room was dirty and dusty upon check-in, dark, and nearly impossible for two people to move around in. We did not even end up staying one night, and the front desk did not care enough to ask why we were checking out 15 mins after check-in, and only said there are no refunds. I think if you can find this hotel for $150 a night and want to be in the middle of chaos (or don’t mind) then this hotel is probably fine. We paid over $300 and the lack of cleanliness alone was enough to leave.

We stayed here during our honeymoon. We would absolutely go back again! It’s in a central location. The room itself was on the smaller side, but the staff was amazing and the amenities were great. We did laundry on site very easily. Every staff member we spoke to were kind.

This was one of our favorite hotels we stayed at. Very clean, smelled so good every time we walked in, and the staff and amenities were great at well.

It is a hidden gem in downtown Kyoto close to shopping and so many other things to do. We found it very convenient for our stay.

Rooms are small and super basic, but bed are comfortable and is a killer central location. The service is totally decent, and being able to walk out right into the heart of everything makes up for any lack of space. If you're all about location and a good night's sleep over fancy digs, this place is a winner.

As described by many though, the rooms are very very small. There’s no room to open out a suitcase even. That sense of a cramped space isn’t helped by black walls and doors in all the corridors. If you are any way claustrophobic I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The property is very well located and you’re all shopping. The rooms are quite nice and quite large considering it’s Japan.

The common areas are very nice. The staff was great.

I recommend that you do not include the breakfast as the breakfast is not good compared to other hotels that we stay at. If there was one limiting factor, I would say it’s the breakfast. Good news is there’s plenty of places to eat right outside the door.

The one issue I experienced was with breakfast, where there there several days where there was little to no food available in the breakfast buffet. Asking the staff for more of a food item usually triggered a fast response but there should have been more observation of the food items.

the nicest hotel i stayed at in japan by far, incredibly cozy rooms and beautifully decorated. great staff - i left my luggage early before check-in and they left it in the room for me after check-in. the area itself isn’t ~bad per se, but can be a little crowded on the street and lacks some of the kyoto charm you might be looking for. that said, there are lots of restaurants and places to shop, and very close to the river and the station. i would love to stay here again.

This was our second favorite hotel out of the 4 we stayed in while visiting Japan. It was in such a convenient location to walk to so many areas and tourist destinations in Kyoto. The staff was very friendly and kind. Our room was tiny and at times difficult to move around with several luggage bags/suitcases but was very clean. Nice toiletries and skin care available in lobby for use. When we were there, they had short cultural experiences/demonstrations on different days of the week. Would stay here again.

Very conveniently located hotel near Pontocho Alley. Nice looking hotel from the outside. We booked a moderate double room but with hind sight we should have booked their bigger twin rooms. The moderate room is way too small if you have a couple of suit cases (meant for two weeks vacation). There is a common room on their ground floor where you can get coffee, hot chocolate or water and sit to catch a breather while planning your day ahead, or just back from your day trip or walks.
