Do not stay on the first floor due to flies and room bugs (not bed bugs) and no windows. Upper floors are better and extremely small. Breakfast was free and worth every penny. Boiled eggs, one type of fruit, fried rice. Breakfast was not good and tasted stale.

I loved the small attached restaurant . My room was very, very small and I would rate the comfort of the bed a 3/10. I did not sleep well and that just makes you more tired. The staff barely acknowledges you which I find odd since Singaporeans are so darn friendly. The bathroom was great and having a balcony was great. Where was the pool?

I had a single room without a window but it was big and clean. The bed was hard but that is to my liking. The morning breakfast was an added plus but I had preferred to have breakfast in the local eateries.
The location is good if you can walk a bit and can navigate the area. You are within a mile of Arab Street and Little India.

I love this hotel because of location. There is a mamak stall near to hotel and walking distance to Bugis Street, Hajah Maimunah Restaurant etc.

Please make sure the room is always clean before providing to guest.

Over priced for what you got

We stayed here on our way back to Australia. Never again, No windows. The room was like a prison cell, Toilet, basin and shower all combined (just like a prison cell). No hot water to the basin. The bed was old and squeaked. The location was in a very poor area and I saw a dead rat on the footpath outside. Price was AUD$370. You could get 5 star in Melbourne for this price. I can't believe some travellers gave this place 10/10. Makes a mockery of reviews. Breakfast was very ordinary. Travellers, stay clear.

The location was decent — Little India has a great vibe and plenty of energy. However, some of the hotel staff were quite unhelpful, and the room setup was disappointing. The Deluxe Silver room I booked I was expected to be compact, but I didn’t anticipate a combined shower and toilet, with the shower head directly above the toilet in such a tiny space. On top of that, the hotel didn’t respond to any of my messages prior to arrival.

Backpacker/non western authentic option

Located in a vibrant area with lots of authentic character and dining options. No traditional breakfast options on any day so not worth paying for. Not especially welcoming. Room very small and basic, less than travelodge. No fresh water refill. English not really understood. Not really likely to be good for Western Tourists unless backpackers.

Great room for those who just want a place to stay

The solo room (windowless) was good! Functional bathroom, TV and fridge. You get what you paid for, in terms of space. I only had one luggage and it was tight so keep that in mind. Safe location. Delicious breakfast. Easy check in and check out. Wifi works fast! Free water daily. Clean room (no molds, no smell, clean sheets).

On Saturday, chambermaid cleaned up our room, but did not replenish toilet paper, tea & coffee supplies.

No patio lights, making it useless to relax at night. They should fix it!

Wifi was frequently disconnecting from the TV, and only solved the day before our checkout. Why did they not resolve it earlier?

Side note: breakfast was very good, and place was quiet, making it easy to get a good sleep

I’m surprised that the F&B staffs started keeping the buffet breakfast on time even there were guests still eating. Some even ate the food before removing the food trays. Education and training needed on the staffs.

The hotel is excellent for traveling on a budget. True, the rooms are small but this is certainly NOT a capsule hotel. It is a well maintained facility, includes breakfast and I had an excellent night's sleep. Upon checking in, the front desk clerk was fantastic. My only negative was the checkout when a different clerk was downright snarly and rude. With that singular bad point, I'd certainly stay here again.

J8 hotel is in a convenient area next to lots of smaller shops (little India and Arab street) so it is good for halal food.
The staff are accommodating and allowed us to have an earlier check in which was very convenient.
We had a twin size room which was just as pictured, the bed was comfy and everything was clean.
Our only complaint is that there was a musky/sweat smell from the room and corridor - but we know it was extremely hot and humid in Singapore so we do not blame the hotel, as soon as the AC was switched on this was fixed.

Staff was nice and friendly and very helpful. They were able to give us an early check in since we arrived so early. They even upgraded our room to a private floor and bigger. The downside was you had to take two flights of stairs to get to it with all your luggage in tow. The area is nice and safe and clean and close to two train stations and down the street from mustufa center. Breakfast was good too. Everything was made to order and fresh everyday. They made sure to provide local cuisine for the locals and western cuisine for like waffles and eggs for us Americans.

Basic and simple stay for single and short stay

Stayed for a couple of times in the past. It’s a basic and simple hotel for temporary stay. Room was small but adequately enough for a single needs. Amenities are there and okay. My only suggestion for improvement is the cleanliness. Found a bunch of hairs on the floor and since no slippers were provided, I find it’s quite an issue. For the single room, the rain shower is just on top of the bathroom and after showering, the entire floor will be wet. With no slippers provided, you’ll feel a bit uncomfortable walking around. For this price point and with a basic breakfast provided, it’s negligible though. you have privacy and private bathroom all by yourself vs a dorm or capsule hotel.

The service counter seems like unhappy people. I thought I chose 2 twin beds, but they say I didn't choose and only single double bed available. I booked a premium silver w twin beds n window for 100usd a night. First room given was fill with bleach smell with a utility fanning the room and no window with crack walls. We insisted another room, finally they did gave us another room with window.
Still single bed but w window n no smell. Very small room. Breakfast was little choices with few basic set to order. I rented an umbrella and got a broken one. Location is 10 min from metro. Consider nice quiet and safe area. But for that price as 1 bed, plenty other choices and its better to get closer to busy area or train station.

Drainage for the shower is slow so the bathroom floods.
Mattress has holes in and is very hard.
Breakfast was horrible and they have ants in there food along with the staff who have a really bad attitude.
Area is okay but the hotel seems to host more Indians and is quite uncomfortable as all they do is stare at you.

The staff at this fairly small hotel are nice and helpful. It’s located in an area that has some very good options for meals, drinks and shopping as the Mustafa Centre is just a 5 minute walk away.
There are also two underground train stops nearby (which was really easy to use when buying tickets and going through the barriers).

My room was on the small side. There was nothing to lay my suitcase on. No proper wardrobe. Just an external bar to hang clothes on and some hooks.
I could not get the AC to work, no matter how many different permutations I tried.
The toilet would not stop flushing all through the night, it just kept on gushing out a small amount of water into the toilet bowl and was a bit noisy. There was no partition for the shower, and so therefore the shower water just goes everywhere in the bathroom including all over the toilet.

I was only staying for one night and so I made do. But if I had been staying for longer, then I would have raised a few issues. But I mostly regarded everything as teething problems.

The breakfast was good allthough there could have been better options for fruit, soft drinks and cereal. But the cooked breakfast included scrabbled eggs, bacon and waffles. The coffee was quite good also.

Considering the shortcomings, the room rate is too expensive. It was still rather expensive even with the discount I had received from Expedia but I think in general it’s more suitable for a short rather than long stay.

VERY noisey outside was our rooms. Window shutters aren’t secure. We had hot air flowing in from the window not being able to close. The AC worked but not well. It never got truely cold even after running it all night. Bathroom was small but fine.

This hotel is conveniently situated just 5 minutes walk from two big shopping centres. The room was clean and once you come in and put A/C on it becomes comfortable. We had a twin windowless room on the ground floor. Had a kettle, tea & coffee and went to the restaurant to get a cup of milk. The bathroom had a good shower and toiletries but only one towel, no hand towel. Breakfast is included and a nice touch is having the contents of the mini bar complimentary, water bottles, cans & chocolates! On Sunday afternoon taxi to airport was $17, after 6pm till midnight flag fall doubles. After breakfast we took bus 133 to Marina Bay after getting directions from front desk. They have a very good map showing streets around the hotel and directions to many places of interest. Very helpful staff.

In spite of booking a twin room we arrived late at night to find we had been assigned a double bed.
Don't know if the mistake was on the hotel's part or if LastMinute didn't pass on our request clearly enough - but we were NOT HAPPY!
Having already paid we had little choice but to accept the one twin room that wasn't occupied - up two flights of stairs with our heavy bags. Not even an offer to help carry our bags up.
When we got there the room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was fine.

It was a good experience in this hotel, they offer a good free breakfast and a good Wifi connection. Not to far from Lavender MRT (3 blocks) where you can reach any point in the city. Located at Little India with some attractions around, like Sultan Masjid temple and Haji Lane among others. Good value hotel

This is my second stay.

I have spent four nights here and it's my second stay in this hotel for my business trip. I have requested to stay in a room on high floor before I arrived. However on by is they have not read my message and assigned me to a lower floor room. After discussed with the front desk staff, he managed to offer me a room on higher floor starting from the next night. Overall the services are good and friendly. However there was no door in the shower. So the floor will be very wet after bath.

I guess you get what you pay for; reception staff very good, but room small but functional for I night. Easy walk to train station to visit all attractions. Breakfast was a bit manic & very unorganised, staff almost seemed rude. I spent three nights at J8 Hotel. The room was small but came with everything I needed: a clean bed and my personal bathroom. I think I got my value for money so I'd recommend it to anyone on a tight budget.
