We loved our stay at this boutique hotel. Perfect location, extremely clean, very nice staff…the rooms are also very quiet. Just a short walk to the 1 line metro and set among great cafes, restaurants and shops. There is nothing I would change about this hotel.

Incidentally, as an added bonus, right next door is an amazing store called La mâle d’effeene…it has very unique and interesting things. Perfect for gift shopping. Stuff you don’t find everywhere. We did all of our gift giving there.

What a lovely hotel, warm and friendly staff and very clean and pleasant. Comfortable room with all needed for a good stay. Excellent breakfast, definitely elevated by what seemed like home baked treats, artisan cured salmons and hams, plus freshly pressed juice. This hotel was in a good area for transport links. I would certainly visit again .

For what was supposed to be rated as 4 stars, it is definitely not. The room was ok except that it had the smallest closet that I have ever seen-not really room enough for 1 persons clothes. There is no coffee machine but a hot water kettle with instant coffee- not exactly 4 star. Amenities are certainly lacking. The young man at the front desk was most helpful in many regards.
The breakfast leaves much to be desired-better to go elsewhere. Most importantly, there is no housekeeping later in the evening-my partner was sick & vomited in the bathroom. I was given towels but no mop or cleaner to use. Not a good situation. I can honestly say that I would not recommend this hotel & it’s certainly not 4 stars.

First of all, this is not a 4 Star Hotel. The lobby - the only public space - is a small room right off the front door entrance. Very few rooms, dark close hallways. Ventilation is not great. Checking in for a 6-day stay, my husband and I were given a room with 6-inches of closet hanging space. Really? That is completely ridiculous. We immediately asked the front desk manager to be re-assigned a room with at least a small wardrobe to hang our clothes and explained we travel with an extensive wardrobe. We could not be moved until the next day - even though we were checking in at noon. So we did not unpack until noon on our second day. But to top off this inconvenience, I was ROBBED. A $600 Dries Van Noten sweater simply disappeared from the wardrobe. I wore it to dinner the second night - and even had a dated iPhone photo of me wearing it. When I went to wear if 4 days later, the hanger was empty. (The sweater was also included in the detailed packing list I keep on my phone in case of lost luggage.) When I reported the theft to the front desk manager, she was completely unhelpful - saying she would have to check \"film\" and would get back to me in 2 days. One week later, I sent an email asking for the promised update and received replies saying that\" (1) no film showed anyone entering our room and leaving with the sweater visibly in their possession - wow - big surprise - and (2) I would have to file a police report, which having left Paris was not possible. BEWARE!

The staff were all very friendly. Some were more knowledgeable and able to offer helpful information than others. The bed was comfortable and the AC was a relief to come back to.
Generally the room was clean. The bathroom could use a deep cleaning to rid of some mildew in the grout. It’s visible close up but there was an odor of mildew. It was not awful but steam cleaning would elevate the accommodations quite a bit.
We did not use the spa or have the breakfast but both looked good.

I am almost positive I had money stolen from the in room safe, 160 dollars. The bathroom shower leaked water all over the bathroom as the show curtain did not do its job. There was no iron or ironing board in the room.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the only other positive was the hotels location. I would not stay here again.

Excellent hotel to enjoy the Marais

The hotel is in an excellent location, close to great restaurants (and a friendly Enoteca just out the front door), shopping, Notre Dame & Sainte Chapelle, Metro stops, and the fascinating Marais neighborhood. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. This was our first visit to the Marais district, and Charles V was a great, convenient spot to begin our explorations.

Safety is a big issue here

It all started fine, front desk was nice enough, room was clean enough but definitely shows wear (paint chipping, dust on the bathroom door and a little grimy on the shower door rubber water stopper thing). This was my first solo trip and as a female traveling alone safety is number one. First of all the room only has a lock that you open with a key, no extra bolts. During my second day I lost my wallet while shopping, possibly pickpocket. So I was feeling quite shaken up after that and left with no money. The hotel didn’t offer to do much but I didn’t expect them to i guess. So i am now quite nervous about being alone and the morning I was to check out, at around 9:45am I was still in bed and suddenly heard the lock opening. At first I thought it was the neighbor opening their door but then my door opened and I was facing the door and saw a man. I said “hello” and He said excuse me and closed the door and locked it. When I told the hotel at check out they refused to believe me stating that there was only one key. And when I told them it was a man they further responded that it was impossible because house keeping were not men. They dismissed me, I only brought it up because it seemed weird that housekeeping would open the door without knocking first. And I really wanted them to be aware and check into it. But instead they made me feel like I was making it up or I was lying. Why would I make up something like that?!?! So, single ladies please be aware!!

We spent 7 days here over the reopening week of Notre Dame and would definitely be our return hotel. Hotel is located on a typical old narrow European back street between 2 major thoroughfares, so it is quiet, but less than a minute walk to bus, subway, cafe, restaurants, grocery store, everything you could want. We always felt safe in this area. Hotel is what I would call a boutique hotel in North America and that is part of its French charm. Don’t expect huge rooms ( we did select the smallest room for the price as we spent little time in the room itself). Hotel is in nice condition, linen was white and crisp, bed was comfortable, daily towels higher quality. Front staff were always pleasant and helpful and spoke English and housekeeping did an excellent job on our room. There is a breakfast available but we didn’t use it as there are so many bakeries and cafes just around the corner that we chose to go there every morning for the great French baking. There was some sort of sauna or steam room at the hotel that looked interesting, but we were too busy being tourists and never checked it out. Price seem to be comparable to other hotels, not the cheapest, but not extravagant. This is the kind of hotel we look for when traveling

While the location is good and the decor is great, we stayed for 5 nights in August (for the Olympics) and DID NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING for the entire visit. The first night we were told is would it would be fixed the next day. The following night we were told that the manager couldn't be called because it was her day off(!) and were given a fan. The remaining 3 nights we were told there was nothing they could do. We asked to change rooms (there were other rooms available when we looked online), but were offered no assistance and wouldn't refund us for the stay. As it was nearly 100 degrees during the day, it was obviously miserable at night. The spa did not work while we were there as well and the housekeeping left their cart in the hall outside our door the entire time. The total lack of customer support and rude management made this a terrible experience and I wouldn't recommend a stay here.

I stayed in the junior suite on the top for floor 3 days, two nights with my partner. I found the check in could have been friendlier, but the room is extremely charming and roomy (Paris standards) for a couple. It was very quiet and cozy, with the sloped roof and beams that are very Parisian style, just be mindful if you are over 6ft tall.

I liked the room a lot, the only downside is there is not a shower, its rather a bathtub with a detached showerhead, under a sloped roof so not possible to stand up, and you have to hold the showerhead at all times.

Aside from that, we really enjoyed staying there, the location is totally perfect, so many cute shops and cafes around.

We didnt try the breakfast so cant comment on that.

Overall, I would return again for sure and would take the junior suite again. The price is right for what you get also.

The location is excellent and great for exploring Le Marais area. The metro is only 350m away and is Line 1 which links to many Paris attractions. The design of the hotel is nice and we were in room 15 on the first floor which faces the street - lively during the day and quiet at night. There were a few maintenance issues with the room which were promptly addressed by management when brought to their attention.

While the hotel itself was clean and the front desk staff friendly and polite, the hotel itself was 3 stars at best. the rooms are very small and I understand that is typical for European hotels but I thought this one extra small. I was overcharged by about 5 to 6 times the regular on hotels.com because of the Olympics ( hotels .com should have made mention of this in their listing).
Amenities were bare minimum shampoo and soap period. Air conditioner was out for 3 of our 5 day trip.
and they still use old fashion room keys that you need to turn into the front desk before you leave.

perfect stay, great location and very friendly staff. room was small but clean, lovely bathroom. only minor things to improve would be a shower head fitting attached to the wall (as in my room it was handheld) and for the air conditioning to have a cooler setting (although I was there during a heatwave! For breakfast, go by Miss Manon at the end of the block - this bakery supplies the local hotels with breakfast goodies. Chocolate lovers, don’t miss Trois Chocolat just down the street, and Mao Dumpling House about a 15 min walk away.

Namely, both the sink and shower were clogged, a ceiling water leak, a curtain rod that blocked opening of the window, and sadly, breakfast eggs and potatoes that tasted like cardboard and had the texture of blah. The service was great, shoutout to Charlotte for letting us check in early after an 8 hr flight. The hotel was pretty clean but the room was super tiny. The \"queen\" bed was 2 full or twin beds pushed together. Not fun sleeping with your feet hanging off the bed when your 5'8 and 5'11. The toilet was seperate from the shower and sink so everytime we use the toilet, we had to walk over to the sink to wash. Little annoying when its 2 am and you want to get back to bed lol. Id give this place 3 stars, definitely not 4. We were walking distance to many restaurants, cafe's and shopping. We had a good time either way.

We really enjoyed the breakfast included with the 5 days of our stay. The thing we did not like at all was the fact that the hotel's definition of twin beds is two small mattresses on one frame. By definition, twin beds are two separate beds. The Superior room we booked was just way too small. There are also very little surfaces to put things on. Beautiful boutique hotel

I was so excited to stay at this hotel!! I booked months in advance and had big expectations. And everything met my expectations. The area is perfect for catching the metro, finding some nice shops and boulangerie. There was an adorable wine bar two doors down. The location is perfect for walking the Seine.

Beautiful boutique hotel

We travel a lot and this was our third time in Paris. We like to stay in different arrondissement each time to get the feel of each area.

This was our first time at Charles V and in Marais and we LOVED it!!

The area is great. Very Parisian and less touristy than other areas. It is on a quaint quiet block with local restaurants and shops.

There is a Hammam that we did not use, but it looked lovely.

The staff were beyond amazing! They took their time to understand our needs and were very kind to us and our awful French lol. They all spoke English very well.

I cannot say enough about this place. We are already planning our next time in Paris and will definitely stay in Charles V again.

We stayed in room 15. It was large and beautifully appointed.

Charles V is a very comfortable small hotel, located close to many major sites and great cafes and restaurants. Street side a little noisy.

I had a Deluxe room number 35 -- large, light, and very quiet, not the least expensive, but I was there for a week and wanted the hotel room to be a comfortable place. In the very lively Marais area, close to the St Paul Metro stop on line 1, which is direct to many museums/sites, a block from the Seine, with lots of shops and restaurants on Rue St Antoine--couldn't be better.
