I present a complaint of egregiously low service, flagrant disrespect and inability to assist.

A woman CONCIERGE insisting on OVERCHARGING me for my excursion booked earlier at a lower price.

The front desk placed an excessive credit authorization of $1,432.34 hold on my credit card - $900 more than the $517 + resort/hotel taxes than described. Effectively taking $2,032.34.

We were promised a complimentary cake and sparkling wine upon entry - this did NOT happen.

I took the tray with dishes to the 26th floor club level. When I arrived, my key card previously used stopped working. A female Sheraton Hotel Rio worker sprang out from behind a desk \"physically\" blocking access to the club room I paid for angrily \"barking orders, interrogating me, and scolding me\" with egregious disrespect. To wit:

1. Why are you here?
2. Why are you trying to get in here!?
3. Why didn't you pay for club room access!? INSULTING!
4. Are you supposed to be here?
5. Why didn't you put the plates outside your door?
6. Why didn't you put the plates by the elevator.
7. Don't do this again.

When I tried to explain I DID INDEED have club access, I paid, and I have been here earlier, I was essentially called a liar, treated with RACISM and continued to be castigated. The thanks I get for going the extra mile on MY anniversary. Abhorrent!!!

It appears to have been the absolute WORST decision to have chosen Sheraton Grand Rio Hotel.

We booked a deluxe room, but the condition of the room was way below our expectations. The shower walls and the glass door are covered with mold—the same as the bathroom sink seal. The walls had a lot of scratches and damage. The room size is much smaller than a room at the Sheraton in Santos, which wasn't deluxe. The carpet in a room is a bad idea for such locations. We had a few red stains on the carpet, that looked like blood. Only when I looked at them very closely could I see that it probably was wine, but still it was very unpleasant to see something like this in a “deluxe” room. The only thing that made this room “deluxe” was the ocean view.
The breakfast was good - a variety of food, drinks, and fruits. The staff who assisted during breakfast time were so helpful and nice.

Very friendly staff, super helpful and patient since our Portuguese is close to non existent. Everyone one was so helpful they accommodated a special request to decorate my daughters room with balloons for her birthday while we stepped out and we were over the moon with how they set up and even provided a cake and a small gift. From the lobby bar to the pool area place was clean, food was delicious. Every question was or concerns were immediately taken care of. Even setting up tours or cab was promptly taken care of. Had a great stay definitely where I’d stay again when I visit.

Incredible don’t stay anywhere else in Rio. This is the only hotel with a private beach and pool connected. It was very lovely and safe and secure. Some downsides…You want a room on the left side of the beach or facing just the beach as the other side can be more noisy there is a dog school and they bark all day. There is also construction and knocking bring earplugs to have the best sleep. Also the streets are loud with motorcycles going by. Other than that 10/10 I will be back many more times with friends and family. Also you are right on the mountain with a beautiful view of Copacabana and ipanema beach. Best food in Leblon so safe and fun walking around.

The hotel was very nice, although tucked away from most shopping or dining places, the restaurants and bars were good. Our only negative was the breakfast was a little expensive and the spa service asked if we wanted firm pressure or light pressure and even though we asked for firm pressure and told the lady we wanted firm pressure it was more of a Rub down than a massage. Otherwise we enjoyed everything about our stay.

The resort had a few dining options and semi-private beach. The pool closes early as well as access to the beach. The pool was always cold. There is a lot of shade due to the mountain behind the hotel and makes the resort feel cold.

El hotel está ok pero es algo antiguo (duchas con cortinas de baño de género) y las piezas tienen olor a húmedo. Pese a que pedi directamente al front desk que no prendieran el AC luego de hacerla pieza, lo prendieron. Al otro dia puse un cartel sobre el aire, y lo volvieron a prender. Increíble. Mala señal de internet. La tv se ve intermitentemente; pese a que pedi que lo fueran a solucionar quedo igual. Por ultimo, nos cobraron taxes extras al precio ya pagado.

Very large room with partial ocean view. Free bottled water daily. The hotel is generally well maintained and staff were always helpful. We opted to add in breakfast however there was little variety and one toaster was simply not enough for a hotel of that size.
Spa was very nice with extra facilities to use. There is an extra resort fee on top of reservation although this includes a free drink & discounts.
The hotel is located a little out the way from the main beaches however only a short taxi ride. There is a beach at the resort. This is public but security overlook it from the hotel. Concierge offer different tours at very reasonable prices. Would recommend!

I had an absolutely incredible stay at the Sheraton Rio de Janeiro! From the moment I arrived, every single employee went above and beyond to make me feel genuinely welcomed. The attention to detail was outstanding — from the perfectly prepared room to the thoughtful service at every touchpoint, you can truly feel that guest experience is their top priority.

One of the things that really sets this hotel apart is that it’s the only hotel in Rio with direct access to a private beach. Not only was it beautiful and exclusive, but it also made me feel completely safe and relaxed throughout my stay. Having that peace of mind while enjoying the ocean was priceless.

Another huge plus was the heated pool. Not every place in Rio offers this, and it made all the difference, especially on cooler days when I still wanted to swim and unwind comfortably.

What really made a difference for me was the kindness and flexibility the team showed by allowing me a late check-out. It gave me the chance to fully enjoy my last day in Rio without feeling rushed, and I’m so grateful for that extra level of care.

Thank you to the entire team for making my stay unforgettable — I can’t wait to return!

Great looking place. Location is isolated. Pools close at 8pm🤔 Total hotel shuts down at11pm??? Restaurant closes on Saturday. If it rains, you have no place to eat? Top restaurant is closed on Sunday, Mother’s Day? Booked a spa, only received a massage. Asked about air conditioning, but not corrected.Overpriced for a resort with so many issues. Will not stay there again

If you are that type of person there is so many things you can do here with your significant other whether it’s prepping for proposal or anniversary or first time travel trip. The Sheraton is a large property with its own beach and a lovely pool area. We stayed for 3 nights at the end of our holiday and enjoyed a relaxing time round the pool. The rooms are large although ours on the second floor in the low rise block was slightly old fashioned and in need of an update. However it had a lovely furnished balcony which we enjoyed.

Never having been to Rio de Janeiro, I relied on the photos of and from the Hotel as well as the reviews. Since the moment we arrived to the time we left, we were elated about our choice. Ipanema was walkable. Our fourth floor balcony with ocean view was simply breathtaking . I have to add that our bed was SO CRAZY comfortable, were it not for the view tempting me from bed just there between our curtains, I might not have seen ANY of Rio. OH, the food! Their restaurants were superb and service/staff that truly spoiled us all week. I would highly recommend Sheraton Grand Rio and would return there in a heart beat. THANK you Sheraton and Expedia for another trip of a lifetime, truly.🌟❤️

Do not stay here!

Highly recommend staying elsewhere if you're planning to visit Rio.

At many points of our time during this trip, we were met with rude and poor service from staff from check-in to check-out. During check-in, we were told our room wasn't ready (we were early so that's understandable) but never notified when it was ready and we had to keep coming back to the check-in desk to inquire.

Then, there was another instance where we came down for breakfast (we paid for a Club access room with breakfast included) and the attendant at the desk just assumed that we didn't have breakfast access without even checking our room number or name. We couldn't help but feel racially discriminated as many other folks just walked into the breakfast area with ease.

Later that same day, a friend of ours who is also staying at the hotel was going to meet us at our room on a different floor. He came to ask the front desk to call us and let him up and the front desk wouldn't let him because of \"guest safety\" when our friend is ALSO A GUEST. We even called the front desk to let him up and the front desk refused to do so. Again, another instance of racial discrimination and assuming that our friend wasn't a guest at the hotel.

These are just two of the many instances where we were met with rude behavior when we are paying guests at this location. For the price, it is absolutely not worth it.

The Sheraton in Rio can be rated “top location” and “worst location”.
Its location is unique, no other hotel in Rio has a private beach and views like the Sheraton has, absolutely the best.
However, it’s surrounded by a favela, you simply shall cannot walk anywhere, nowhere, from the hotel, due to its dangerous and high crime neighborhood.
If you don’t mind catching a cab for just about everything, then I’m confident to say you won’t regret staying at the Sheraton

I stayed here for 3 nights in a partial ocean view room. The room was nice but could use an upgrade. We had problems with the toilet flushing & notified them. Someone did not come the first day to fix but at the end of the 2nd day. Breakfast was in the Marriott club members area which was nice. Staff here were attentive. Lunch by the pool was good. Beautiful pool area. Well located.
