There was a huge coachorage in my bathroom and after I hardly killed that oneand couldn’t sleep I saw another one next day. I asked them to change my room and they said they can’t and they don’t have any room. After I insisted so hard they accepted and all of a suddeb there was another room. I know there are coachorages hidden behind bathroom doors wooden pieces, so if you get that kind of room where there is space they can hide you will most likely sleep with one and even see it and scream like I did. God they are huge!!!

Stay here for 3 NTS.
The shower in the room was small space I had to stand sideways so take a shower.
Breakfast was just ok and the dinning area when full was difficult to move around no space.
Good location for Ipanema beach.
Getting around always use Yellow taxi they don’t seem to rip you off.

Comfortable stay

Stayed two nights here after having spent two nights at a different hotel in Copacabana. The difference in both neighbourhood and accommodation were immediate. The staff were very welcoming and offered a welcome drink which I had on the rooftop before my room was ready. Great views from the roof and my room as well (could see Cristo Redentor). Had dinner and breakfast from the adjoining restaurant which were both very good.

This hotel was recommended by a friend who lives in Rio and I understand why. The location is near the Ipanema beach, safer than Copacabana, the rooms and facilities are nice and clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. We reserved the 6 hour city/Cristo tour with them which was a good choice. We also enjoyed the spa for massages which were also very nice.

We stayed in a regular room, everything was good but the AC.

Not sure if it was because it was hot outside but AC was at 17° C and it felt like 23 C.

A central metal piece of the window was loose and it make some noise as the AC was an old model and it shakes while it was working.

Real highlight here is that everything else was fantastic.

My recent stay at the Mar Ipanema Hotel was nothing short of a disaster. The lack of cleanliness was immediately evident, with mold visibly growing in the bathroom and windows that were covered in grime, making it nearly impossible to see outside. It's apparent that cleanliness is severely neglected here.

The noise level was intolerable. There is ongoing construction on the 5th floor during the day, and the loud noise reverberates throughout the entire hotel. Finding any peace or quiet is out of the question with the incessant banging and drilling.

Additionally, the hotel is situated in an unsafe area. I felt uneasy walking around the neighborhood, particularly after dark.

In conclusion, I would never consider staying at the Mar Ipanema Hotel again. It was an extremely disappointing and unpleasant experience. Do yourself a favor and choose a different place to stay.

I recently stayed at the Mar Ipanema Hotel and it was an absolute nightmare.

First and foremost, the cleanliness of the hotel is appalling. There is mold growing in the bathroom, and the windows are so filthy you can barely see through them. It’s clear that housekeeping is not a priority here.

The noise levels are unbearable. There is continuous construction on the 5th floor during the day, and the noise permeates through the entire hotel. It's impossible to get any rest or relaxation with the constant hammering and drilling.

Moreover, the area around the hotel feels unsafe. I did not feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood, especially at night.

Overall, I would never stay at the Mar Ipanema Hotel again. It was a deeply disappointing and unpleasant experience. Save yourself the trouble and find somewhere else to stay.

Way better than my previous hotel …. Sanitary …& quiet … staff was helpful and very pleasant … The gym was fantastic as well as the breakfast although I wish they had mango slices but not a big deal …Wish I had stayed here for my entire trip instead but I’ll know for next time which will be soon anyway

Stay away! I booked 2 rooms (connecting), they instead gave me a single room with a double bed. Bait and switch by the hotel.

Terrible manager on site, did not care. Had to call credit card to dispute charge. Left the property and booked another.

Saw another person complaining while I was there too. Seams like a typical story at this hotel. So many other options in Rio. Pick another!!

This is a nice hotel with very friendly staff. It is a little overpriced now, but prices have increased a lot in Rio. You are paying for the location, near the beach and in one of the safest neighborhoods in Rio.

Location is awesome. Beds and room were clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. I’d stay here again because the price is reasonable for the location. But - the Sink would back up. Grout on shower tiles was black. WiFi has no password so it was overwhelmed and useless.

The staff was out of this world. Everyone went way and beyond to help us, everyone is very friendly. I requested a high floor and I received no problem. The breakfast was good and the bed excellent.

The most annoying and terrible thing was the internet. They seriously need to address this situation.
A) There is no password.
B) Every few minutes you need to disconnect, forget the WiFi history from your device and receive a new IP address.

What kind of nonsense is this??? I speak Portuguese, I am Brazilian. I speak English, I understand internet and technology and this is ridiculous. I spoke to the reception that helped me a little but in the end, I always had to disconnect and connect time and time again even within 30 minutes. I know it sounds strange but I would think twice before staying there again, only because of this.

I was so stressed out with the internet that I didn't even bother fighting for it because I knew it wasn't one employees fault.

The location is everything.
The hotel was not best in condition, but, the staff was friendly, the breakfast was great.
One complain was that the WiFi was terrible. In other words, you’re likely to be on your own with no WiFi unless you find it at a restaurant or store.

The hotel is in a great position and has a lively bar/restaurant open to the public. There is no swimming pool and the rooms are quite small. The aircon seemed to be either cold or off so during the night we had it off so it was pretty hot. The staff are friendly and helpful but the hotel does need a makeover. It is looking a bit down market and a 2 star hotel.

Great value!

For the price - it was absolutely fine. The bed was comfortable enough, the room was clean enough and the AC worked. You can't beat the location since it takes just a couple of minutes to walk to the beach. Also, the restaurant/bar on the bottom floor is quite popular. I wish I had time to stop by for a beer.

Room smaller than advertised. Air con remote didn't work properly - very frustrating! There was no-one serving at the rooftop bar, again not as good as it looks in the pictures. One of the lifts was out of order during our stay which left only 1 small lift serving the whole building - lots of waiting! Breakfast was a bit disappointing.

Hotel is just a few blocks away from beach and metro. Double bed room was a bit snug but was clean and modern. Friendly staff and really helpful too to all our needs. Lovely bar and grill on premise which was great for breakfast and dinner. Only complaint was one of the elevator banks was out of service for the last few days and we had some unexpected wait times to get in room and out of hotel.

Good things: Location near to Ipanema beach in a walking distance. A lot of restaurants, stores and more near by.

Bad:
Bell boys need to be more friendly and smile please!
If this hotel wanna continue as \"VIP\". They must clean their showers much better, I found mold in shower walls and that is unacceptable for the price I was paying for. Hotel should have more international TV Channels (most of them are in Portuguese).

This is a lovely hotel! The staff is wonderful and very helpful with making plans, etc. They also change money with no fee. The hotel is connected to a very nice restaurant which serves the complimentary and excellent buffet breakfast, and the restaurant serves delicious food for lunch and dinner as well. The hotel is walking distance to the beach, to parks and outdoor art fairs to many fun shops and restaurants. I would definitely stay at the Mar Ipanema again!

Great location for an Ipanema beach vacation

It was our first time in Rio. We had a great beach vacation with this hotel being an excellent choice as a base. It is close to but not on the beach and that helps for when the beach is crowded, or rowdy, or late night. It was an easy safe walk to all sorts of restaurants and bars in Ipanema, and we never felt threatened by the neighbourhood. The staff was excellent in explaining all things Rio to non-Portuguese speakers. They provided chairs and towels for the beach. The top floor lounge is an undiscovered gem, as it is quiet, secluded and a great spot to enjoy scenic views of the neighbourhood.

The couple to Ipanema

Nice hotel with good location near the beach and relatively good shopping. Hotel uses restaurant as its feeding station, which produces good breakfasts, but gets crowded at the weekend. early start would help. Restaurant pleasant in the evening. Hotel staff on the front desk spoke excellent English, and were very helpful in providing good advise on travel to the sites. Rooms on the front are noisy with traffic during the morning, but otherwise good. only serious complaint was the lift. There are two, and one was out of action for more than a week (according to the doorman), which meant long waits if you weren't feeling energetic. (We were on the 8th floor). Otherwise good exercise. Bathrooms were dated, and water temperature control non existent - either scalding or freezing. Odd given the request for economic use of the water resources.

Used Mar Ipanema as a base for recent visit to Rio for a conference and holiday travel. Hotel itself was clean and ideally located close to the beach. Facilities good, rooms clean. Staff were exceptional, keeping bags while we were touring for a few days and arranging beach towels, chairs and umbrellas. They also arranged tours for us and couldn't have been more helpful. Would def recommend

A very good hotel in a great location in Ipanema

Reception staff spoke good English and were very helpful with providing information regarding decent places to eat, what fare to expect when taking a taxi to locations, and also regarding any safety issues. The hotel itself was well appointed, in a great location in Ipanema, and the inclusion of breakfast in the tariff was an added bonus. With a bistro type restaurant attached to the hotel, walking distance to great eateries and the beach, and a cheap taxi fare to the Leblon shopping mall, we were very pleased with our choice.
