The cleaning was definately not optimal. The beds were hardly fixed well. The bathroom toilet was loose. And the smell was bad in the room. I believe the acs werent properly serviced and may have had mold

It was a very poor experience in many ways:

1. We were not able to get into our room until almost supper time, and was told continuously for almost four hours that it would be ready soon.
2. The room appeared to be missing some furniture, with an empty space where a couch, table or chairs should have been.
3. On the second full day of our stay, the air conditioning stopped working from early afternoon until late evening. We were not able to stay in the room and was, once again, told over and over again that it would be fixed anywhere from five to fifteen minutes. The reasons were also different and illogical.
4. At the end of the evening, we were told that our third night’s room charge would be refunded to us. We are still waiting.

Check-in is painfully slow (very long line)- but Bruno Barroso went above and beyond to help me with all my issues. He went above and beyond.

Breakfast is amazing - great coffee - good choices and I love the make your own fresh juice.

Bed is comfy and the shower was hot and strong. Made me happy. Rooms are a little small depending on what you book.

Very clean.

Big criticism- the air freshener they PUMP into the lobby is horrid and way too strong. I really feel like I was being gassed and them employees probably shouldn’t be subjected to that.

Lovely property for the price and right opposite Copacabana beach. Two observations would be, it took about 30 minutes to check in, and it was a slow checkout process also. Speeding this process up would mean the venue would be perfect. Breakfast had a lot of variety but during busy times plates and cups had run out. Staff were very friendly and accommodating!

The breakfast room is too small for such a large hotel and the check in/out desk and area should be bigger as it fills up with people checking in/out or making inquiries (it gets a little chaotic). These are minor things that maybe they can improve. I would stay here again. We had a view of the sea but part of the beach front tower of the hotel blocked the view plus our tower was too far from the beach so the ocean view didn’t matter. Everything worked in the room including hot water (well labeled!) and pressure.

We arrived early after a 12-hour flight and were advised to return at 2pm for check-in. After going out for a walk and lunch, we came back at the requested time only to find that our room was still not ready, and we had to wait another hour.

The room allocated to us was unfortunately next to the cleaners’ storage, which made it very noisy in the early mornings with constant banging doors. To make matters worse, we experienced insects in the room. One morning, I woke up to find the shower full of them. I reported this to reception (with photos), but nothing was done, and I had to remove them myself just to take a shower.

I also felt that the reception staff were careless and not very friendly, which was disappointing. Breakfast was acceptable but with limited selection, and the pool was both small and very cold.

The only positives were the hotel’s location, as well as the professionalism of the door staff and waiters. Overall, this was not the experience I expected, and I would not return.

Check-in was a disaster. Online checkin doesn’t mean you don’t have to stand in a line forever! They start queuing in the HOT lobby at 1:30pm and even being in line at 1:50, WE didn’t get out last room until after 5:30pm. We missed our PAID tour. They offer you a meal voucher for their less-than-satisfactory restaurant as compensation for waiting.

If you’ve had a very long flight and are looking forward to a restful stay, the checking ordeal is probably not for you. Unless maybe you know someone and they bring your check in documents to you as you sit in a recliner in the lobby—while the rest of us hot, thirsty travelers look on.

Otherwise our stay was nice.

Need more shade umbrellas in the upstairs balcony/bar/pool area.

Overall, the stay was decent. You might need to exercise some patience with this hotel, though.

Pros:
- Close to the beach
- Lots of shops and restaurants nearby
- Rooftop pool
- A well-equipped gym with a nice view
- Friendly service, for the most part

Cons:
- Service can be inconsistent and sometimes slow. Example 1: Our in-room Nespresso machine wasn’t working, so we requested a replacement. We waited a day, nothing. Asked again, waited another day, still nothing. Finally, on the third try, we got a replacement, but no replacement pods (the ones we had were wasted when we tested the broken machine). Example 2: We booked the room for two people, but when the dirty towels were removed, we only got one new towel. This happened both times our room was cleaned, which just felt odd for a room meant for two. The second time they took our hand towel but didn’t replace it. It’s a small thing, but when you have to call for basic items that should’ve been provided, it starts to feel like there’s a lack of attention to detail.
- No ceiling ventilation in the bathroom. This might be common in Brazil, not sure, but it’s worth mentioning since it was pretty humid, and the AC didn’t reach the bathroom (even though the room was small), so it always felt warm and muggy in there.
- WiFi was spotty and really bad in the room.
- Both times the room was cleaned, the toilet wasn’t properly cleaned.

Hello, we have to ask several times during one day to make up our room. Staff on reception said \"will do asap\" and after 4 hours - nothing. Long check in, options early check in doesn't work even when they have available rooms. They block deposit on my card and to unblock i had to mail Hotel after two days, however during check out reception said that it will be unblocked immediately. Overall breakfast is good, rooms are big and has all nessesary, staff are friendly

Great Location and Friendly Staff, but Some Inconveniences

I had a pleasant stay at this hotel—the location is excellent, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was also quite good, offering a nice start to the day.

However, I couldn’t give a full five-star rating for a couple of reasons. First, the check-in time is quite late. Many international flights, including ours with Delta, arrive in Rio around 5 AM, but the hotel’s check-in isn’t until 3 PM. This leaves guests stuck waiting with their luggage for hours, which isn’t ideal after a long flight. Offering an earlier check-in option would make a big difference.

Second, while the hotel does have a pool, it’s quite small. If you’re hoping for a lively poolside experience or any sort of pool party, this might not be the place for that.

Overall, it’s a solid choice with great service, but a few adjustments could make it even better!

The location of the property is prime! Right across the street from the beach. There is a quaint bar to the left of the property upon exit that serves delicious empanadas. The staff is warm and helpful; even the ones who don't speak English. We stayed in the double twin bed room which is where things were dissatisfactory. The room was dated with scoffed laminate flooring, mildew growth in the shower and a persistent mildew smell throughout the small quarters. Another thing to beware of is gym staff by the name of Sebastian who claims to be a PT and masseuse. PT he is definitely but a masseuse he is not! The \"massage\" services he offers are horrible! Use the female for your massage needs. She is great!

The welcome and helpfulness of the staff is first class. They never gave the impression that a request is too much bother. We had requests for an extra chair and hangers and this was no problem, both provided promptly - as was the iron and a room clean. We had a situation with a wallet left in a taxi and the staff were empathetic, doing all they could to help locate the driver...and enquiring the following day as to whether it was found.
The facilites are well maintained and the common areas execeptional in cleanliness and tidyness. I would recommend without hesitation

The hotel facility is great, the service was good but it needs improvement. When calling the front desk for a service, they sometimes would respond immediately and sometimes they would forget all together. The staff was friendly and kind, but there needs to be more coordination, sometimes we would need to reach out to three different staff to finally get the service needed. Also recommend to train more of their staff in english and spanish language. Generally, we loved the hotel and would stay again, but there is room for improvement.

Place was fine it was under construction part of the time staff was pretty friendly. But I had a shirt pressed and they sprayed some chemical on it and got these light spots all over it. They said they would take it back and fix it, did that twice but fixed nothing just re packaged it. Then a staff member came to the room and took pictures and insured i would be reimbursed. i asked her if she wanted receipts she said no. Four inquires later and I just get deflected every time because said party isn't in or whatever excuse they have for the day. Stay there it's fine they are nice but be warned don't use the laundry service or expect to be reimbursed at all if they mess your stuff up.

The Grand Mercure is a wonderful hotel with excellent service and great tour connections. The included breakfast, complimentary beach chairs/umbrella, and spa/gym are excellent benefits of the hotel. Being a three minute walk to the beach in one direction, and a two minute walk to stores, groceries, pharmacies, etc in the other direction was ideal. When on the beach, one has no idea of being close to anything else. Staff was particularly helpful, friendly and very kind. Staff and location were the big things. Of course it was clean. It is not a luxury hotel in the sense I think of luxury hotel...but it had all the amenities of a luxury hotel at normal-people rates.

My room had a mildew smell. I didn’t care to change and complain but I probably could’ve asked. The staff was very nice and room cleaning each day seemed decent enough though I don’t know how thoroughly they clean. I clipped my nails and saw one of the clippings there the days going forward so I don’t know if a thorough floor cleanse is daily. All of my cleaning people were nice though and I could tell the toilet and shower was cleaned each day

Area around the hotel was great! Very walkable, very safe besides the occasional aggressive hobo.

Free beach umbrella and chair each day was AWESOME!

It's a nice hotel, with a great breakfast, good Wi-Fi, comfortable bed and pillows. It's close to many nice restaurants, some of them authentic Brazilian . The room is very spacious, and the price is moderated.
I had intention to extend my stay for more three days, and that would be with my husband coming form US, however, I never got the price and if I could stay in the same room. Then , I moved to another nice hotel.

It is an OK hotel, in a good location as it is very close to the beach. The staff is friendly and very helpful but this is not what I would describe as an upscale hotel. I found the room to be a bit uncomfortable. My main issue was the cleanliness. At the beach, I could not find a tent it Keep in mind that if you need to iron or use a hair dryer, you need to request these and they may not be available. I found the room to be uncomfortable,

This hotel is steps away from Rio’s quintessential beach. Felipe, one of the hosts, was very efficient, friendly, and was ready to give tips on where to go and what to eat. The property itself is a bit dated and the hallways feel a bit cramped. That said, you come to Rio to enjoy the outside, so balance your expectations, location, and price point.

The hotel is located I. A beautiful part of town. Tons of restaurants to choose from and right near the beach. The breakfast is amazing! The gym has a great view but most importantly was the helpfulness of the staff and how positive they always were.

The property was close to the beach, was way overpriced for the value and service (because of Carnival), but even at its usual rates was high. Th staff were all exceptional friendly, were good at arranging for taxi, were fair at arranging for tours, and were pretty bad at giving directions or guidance concerning subways and busses, restaurants, ATM machines (that other hotels actually have in their lobbies!). The hotel provided ample security, had an absolutely marvelous breakfast with long hours to accommodate the all night carnival party scene (those just returning at 6 and those who slept late (though 10 should have been 11!). The room was small and the bed and bath were comfortable and spacious. The shower was the best designed I have seen in any hotel- with the on/off & temp regulator on the wall opposite the shower head (a rain style) and a hand held with a button to switch between shower and hand wand. The room attendants were very good; room food service person were good, but the menu for dinner and lunch is sparse and average at best. Front desk staff were always busy, but were efficient, so wait times were tolerable, and very friendly, even if not always so knowledgeable about the surroundings.

Really helpful staff. Very convenient . Nice size room with modern bathroom. Lots of choices for breakfast, though layout not the best with breakfast bar being in separate area from breakfast rooms.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the hotel per-se.
But ohh man, has Rio fallen of dramatically, completely unsafe surroundings, not only here but in mostly all Atlantic Ave. Also extremely dirty and stinky. Again, the hotel was the best part. but the entire city is just so dirty and dangerous.
