Very decent stay - given the cost and location:
Loved the 80s (or 90's) decor - although some might find it too dated!

The hotel was always very well cleaned and the rooms very quiet and peaceful.

The breakfast was a good selection - some variation across the days - and I REALLY appreciated English Breakfast tea being available.

The awful lounge music played around the hotel was pretty dreadful though, and the speakers were very distorted and need replacing (a minor complaint!)

The staff were friendly and helpful where they possibly could be.

The price was pretty good given the high cost of accommodation in Copacabana, and the location was great.

This property is a great value for the money but would not classify it as a 4 star property. The location is hard to beat for this price and there are plenty of places to choose from for food including a 24 hour grocery store across the street. And if you get sick like I did, there are 2 pharmacies next door. Overall I'm happy with the experience.

A time do hotel foi muito simpático. A localização é ótima. Perto da praia (uma caminhada de 6-8 minutos). A área é movimentada, segura, com muitos bares, restaurantes e lojas. Um supermercado bem em frente. A área da piscina é pequena, mas boa. Café da manhã foi bom (não tinha muitas opções, mas era gostoso). Quarto confortável e o chuveiro era maravilhoso.

The staff are excellent and were able to assist us in English. They are the primary reason we rated so highly. The location is super convenient and walkable and close to the water, and the staff was super knowledgable of the area and offered to help secure discounts at local places. Additionally, you can borrow beach towels, chairs, and an umbrella from the front desk, which is a great touch.

Some of the reasons why they lost a star:
- The beds are a bit uncomfortable. We could feel the springs through the mattress.
- The plumbing of the hotel was set up in a way that we could hear every toilet flush from our upstairs neighbors at random times.
- The sheets had some stains on them after a housecleaning visit, and soaps were not filled when we got there (and were not filled post housecleaning visit).

Overall, we had a great stay. I think the staff really made it. I would just say if you don't like firm beds I would probably choose another space!

This is very nice basic(no frills) property. Walking to the Copacabana beach, lots of dining option also entertainment option(Roxy). The breakfast was very nice especially we loved the fresh juices. The staff was friendly.

There was no electric kettle and tea and coffee bags in the room and so it was not possible to have a cup of tea or coffee in the room. White towels became grey. There were not blankets on the bed and only sheet there(you had to ask for it).

The hotel is only two blocks away from Cobacabana Beach and there are many restaurants and drug stores nearby. The area looks safe. The cecepion staff can speak English and are willing to help on booking tours, give info on currency exchanges. The breakfast is excellent. with all you need in the morning, two different kinds of fresh juices, many kinds of good quality fruite, susages, scrambled eggs, milk, coffee, lots of choices of breads and cakes. Clean lady did very good job in cleaning the room everyday. Highly recommend this hotel.

If I could rate this hotel more than five, I would.
My room was large and clean.
There was AC. I used it but it was loud.
The breakfast was great. I stayed 6 nights. It varied slightly but it works for us (scrambled eggs, sliced hotdogs, pastries, lots of fruits, yogurts, a panini machine (which I used) coffees, teas, cereals)

The location is fantastic. It's close to the beach. (the hotel let you borrow chairs and umbrella for free)
We walked twice to Ipanema (only 1 mile 1/2)
Across from the hotel, there is a big supermarket. We bought our waters and snacks.

The most important was the staff. They were all great! They are there to help you. The manager, the receptionists, the people at the pool were all very friendly.
They made our vacation a hit!

Also metro is nearby. We used it one time. We mostly used Uber.

The quality/price for this hotel was outstanding.

It was good a three night stay. The hotel is located 2 blocks from the beach, there are many eating and drinking options on your way to the beach, there's a supermarket right in front of the hotel. There's´ a partnership with a Gym Chain just around the corner. Don't even bother about the pool and the gym inside. 20 mins from Santos Dummond, 30 mins to Tom Jobim´s Airport.

The staff at the hotel were excellent. Everyone, without exception, was very pleasant and helpful.

The hotel is dated however, the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable.

The dining room for breakfast was small and we were asked to specify when we would have breakfast. The breakfast was continental style with a reasonable choice of food.

The location is excellent.

The sheets were dirty, there were hairs in the bed, the desk was dirty they did not clean the room upon arrival. I requested to talk to the manager (Cecilia) and they told me she wasn’t there and I had to wait until the next day. The next day she wasn’t there either. This place is terrible, during these times you can’t afford to be in a place without disinfection.

Room I got was simple, but clean, which is what I only needed. Spent most of the time outside.

Location was convenient - close to restaurants, bars, and only a 2 min walk to Copacabana. Hotel is located in a safe part of Rio as well, even at late at night (at least that's how I felt).

I got there after a long trip, was told to go to another hotel, because Vilamar had overbooked. I was not notified at the last minute change, had to get another uber to Windsor Plaza, which was far away from my relatives. Not even transportation I was offered by the switch!

Hotel has the basic amenities. Room could be cleaner. I found hair and dust in the bathroom and bathtub. Tub was a jacuzzi that didn’t work. AC is noisy. Gym had very few equipments.
Breakfast is ok. Staff is great and the aromatic water downstairs was a great touch. Overall, hotel is good for those looking for the basic and a comfortable room.

The roof top pool is no longer the same as in the photos. I had a choice of several hotels in the same price range and chose this one for the beautiful views from the pool. Turns out they blocked the ocean view with a new hotel over a year ago. The rooftop is nothing to rave about. Overall, the hotel is ok at most. The breakfast is repetitive and lucklaster. But I must admit - they do have some lovely staff here and there.

This hotel is most ideally located, in a very safe area, with more bars, restaurants, super markets, pharmacies, etc. right next door! The beach is a mere couple of blocks away, a very easy walk. Only issue I wasn't exactly happy with was the complimentary breakfast buffet. It was very good, tasty, assorted pastries, breads, fresh fruit, coffee, juice, etc. but the 2 hot items were (DAILY!) scrambled eggs and \"sausage\" (looked like sliced hot dogs to me!) in some sort of sauce. Not that great. But, the sliced deli meats and cheeses, yogurt, cereal, provided a well balanced meal.

It was a good stay,the staff are very friendly and helpful.The hotel is only 5 minutes walk away from the action on Copacabana beach and loads of good restaurants within walking distance.
The room was spacious and clean,the bed was comfortable and the shower was powerful and hot.The included breakfast is buffet with a variety of breads,cakes,hams, cheeses,cereals,scrambled eggs,sausage etc
The hotel does trips and excursions at competitive price ,which we used.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would stay there again when in Rio.

Lovely, but make sure pool is functioning first

I chose the Vilamar after setting my filters to only include Copacabana Beach area hotels that offered a pool. I’d say it was perfectly reasonable in terms of cleanliness, service, location, buffet breakfast, internet speed, room quality, etc. Sadly, a pool was a tropical vacation imperative, & in this area the Vilamar failed to deliver. Their pool & steam room remained out of order for the entirety of our 6 day stay. While we were told repeatedly repairs might be completed the next day, that day never came during our stay. They could’ve stated on hotels.com these features would be unavailable, or notified me of this fact by email, but, alas, did not. On our day of departure, w/ a flight that left shortly after 12am, I asked if it would be possible to keep our room until 10pm @ no extra charge. I wouldn’t normally make such a request, but as staff was well aware of our disappointment w/ the pool situation, I felt a complimentary 10 hr check out ext request was hardly unreasonable. Upon having front desk staff refuse our request, we asked to speak to the mgr. She offered a free 2 hr extension, but otherwise wouldn’t budge on requiring a charge of 1/2 the daily room rate for the addl 10 hrs. I found the hotel completely acceptable & lovely, this pool matter aside. I would, however, be reluctant to return to any hotel I felt cheated me out of the most important amenity I seek in a vacation experience, & is then unwilling to make any accommodation for their service shortcomings.

A good hotel with the worst client service ever

I checked out and they told me we can stay at the bar and order drinks. We did that. We asked to be billed to the bar as we already checked out. We were surprised with the treatment we receive as more that 3 people came up to ‘follow us’ to the reception desk to pay $20. I felt treated as a thief. Not my fault they lacked a wireless machine to pay with my card!

The hotel was two short blocks from Copacabana beach and walking distance to Ipanema Beach. The price finally came down to $215/night (from almost $500) a week before my trip which I felt was reasonable for the Olympics. I admit that I had low expectations for the hotel based on what I saw overall in affordable Rio hotels on the hotels.com website, so I was pleasantly surprised.

The beds were a little hard for my taste, but overall the \"luxury college dorm style room\" was perfect for a less picky guy like myself. I checked for bedbugs when I got there and there were no bugs of any kind in the rooms D the room was clean. I loved that it had a room safe for my valuables and passport. They had basic cable with a few English speaking channels and they had CNN International, which was all I needed. I had a great A/C unit that kept my room very cold like I like it.

would definitely stay at this hotel again for their non-event price for $100/day or the $215/day special event price.

There was a very nice English speaking guy during the day I believe \"Jose\" is his name (English speaking) was excellent with giving us subway instructions to the different Olympic event venues that were spaced out all over the city. One of the venues was a two hour trip on the subway and bus.

Awful hotel experience

Starting with the air conditioner not working that they did not replace until the next day. Then the stay was cut short when the pool above the room started coming through the ceiling. Instead of apologizing about the issues, the hotel staff tried to charge me for parking of a non-existent vehicle when I decided to leave. The price is considered good for the neighborhood with an adequate included breakfast of several hot and cold items and fresh fruit and a nice view from the rooftop but none of this is worth it in a room without air conditioning and the pool leaking into the room.

Fijn verblijf gehad in hotel Riale Villamar. De kamers zijn ietwat gedateerd maar wel van alles voorzien, inclusief bubbelbad. De kamers worden iedere dag prima schoongemaakt inclusief verse handdoeken.

Het ontbijt is uitmuntend- en het voltallige persoonlijk is vriendelijk, vrolijk en behulpzaam, niks is teveel. Ze laten je als gast echt thuis voelen in het hotel.

Ook de samenwerking met de Smartfit gym, op loopafstand van het hotel, is super! Tevens kun je bij de receptie een strand kit lenen (stoel en parasol). Prijs / kwaliteit van dit hotel is uitstekend! Ik kom hier graag nog eens terug.

Echt een aanrader! Super behulpzaam en vriendelijk personeel, zonder uitzonderingen hulde aan het hele team!
Heerlijk vers ontbijt iedere ochtend, fijne samenwerking met de lokale sportschool (Smart Gym), kamers zijn gedateerd maar wel netjes en schoon.
Ik kom hier graag nog eens terug!!

Boa opcão. Apartamento um pouco datado, mas espaçoso e em boas condições. Café da manhã bom. Atendimento muito bom. Ponto (para quem gosta de Copacabana) bom, próximo ao metro, com boas opções de gastronomia nos arredores.

Boa estadia em Copacabana

Hotel bom. Atendimento muito atencioso. Limpeza excepcional. Localização excepcional, há um supermercado Zona Sul e amplo comércio perto. Reservei com cama queen size descrita no quarto, superior double room. Porém, segundo hotel, não há quartos com cama queen no hotel.
