We have a great three days at this hotel. The property is under renovation, si you can see some workers around.
The room was super clean and the staff was very helpful.
My only negative comment is about the WiFi, absolutely THE WORST!!! It maybe because the renovation, but the access points of the network are in the hallways and not inside the rooms.
It was imposible to use any streaming service on the Smart TV or even have a voice call in WhatsApp without breakups.

This was a really nice hotel about a seven minute walk to Copacobana beach. This Hotel is frequented by Jews. So if you dont like their Obnoxious, self centered, Rude, Arrogant, & A sundry of more things attributed to these scourge of humanity this might not be your place to stay. That saying the Hotel is definitely a nice choice.

To Management of American Benidorm Hotel, Rio de Janeiro,

I am writing to formally demand resolution regarding our unacceptable stay at your hotel during Carnival.

On our final night, the power went out completely, including the air conditioning, for several hours during peak summer heat. It is beyond unacceptable that a hotel charging approximately $550 per night does not have a functioning backup generator or emergency protocol. As a direct result of the extreme heat and lack of ventilation, my friend became severely dehydrated while sleeping, woke up vomiting, and has been sick for the remainder of our trip, unable to participate in any activities. This is a serious health consequence caused by your failure to provide basic utilities.

Additionally, we upgraded to a three-person room and I paid the difference. Despite this, your staff charged my friend again for the same upgrade. We had to ask multiple staff members before a refund was issued.

Finally, my expired credit card, which I accidentally left in the room, was attempted to be used twice. While the charges did not go through, this raises extremely serious concerns regarding theft and guest security within your property.

This experience was unsafe and unacceptable, especially at Carnival pricing. I am formally demanding a full refund for our stay. If this matter is not resolved promptly, we will escalate through our credit card company and appropriate consumer protection channels.

Unfortunately, my experience with both the Benidorm Hotel and Expedia was very disappointing.

The hotel is undergoing major renovations, which was not disclosed at the time of booking. The property felt messy due to construction, with dust/powder on the floors. Our toilet was loose and unstable; I reported it to reception, but nothing was done.

Additionally, both the hotel pool and the gym pool were not working. While access to a pool at the hotel across the street was offered, this was not communicated in advance. Guests should be clearly informed about unavailable amenities before arrival.

There was also a serious issue with our reservation. I entered that my child is 13 years old, but upon arrival I was told Expedia listed him as under 5. Because of this discrepancy, I was charged nearly US$600 extra. When booking, I tried correcting his age, but the system kept reverting to the incorrect information, which was very frustrating. Eventually, the age seemed to be correct but to my surprise, during check-in, it was not!

Overall, the lack of transparency, unexpected charges, and unavailable amenities made this a very disappointing experience.

They were renovating, which is fine, but they gave me a room right beside the construction. Luckily I have earplugs to sleep and it made the noise tolerable but I could still hear it and it was an irritation while awake. The clerk said I should have told the manager during the day to change my room but I sleep during the day and why is it my responsibility to lose sleep in order to fix the problem you created. Regardless, no one should be put adjacent to that noise and dust in first place. I wasn't given any compensation. I was told to check their website... Otherwise no complaints about the hotel, it was good.

The problem is that this hotel is under major renovations. The pool is closed, the elevators are both being used by construction crews and it's almost impossible to get into the hotel front door. We booked this hotel months ago as part of an extension to a group tour. We were not informed of the renovation status and no concessions were made to the price we booked at....even though they are practically giving away their hotel rooms this week to new bookers.

The rooms we’re clean and renovated! Nice rooms. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was oke but not much variation. The hotel is still under renovations but you can use the hotel across the street to go to the gym, pool or bar. You can also exchange money at the lobby, that was great.

The hotel is clean, conveniently located and the service is very courteous. The price of the stay included breakfasts - although the same set was served every day, they were tasty and fresh. The only drawback was the ongoing renovation of the roof and other rooms, which at times caused some inconvenience.

We made reservations (5 x Quad Rooms) in Feb 2025 for travel in July 2025. Advertised room size was 500+ sq ft which seems great for 4 people.

- One day before travel 1 out of 5 room was canceled with no explanation creating a mess for our party. We needed up getting 2 more rooms last minute in a different hotel 10 minutes away because there was nothing suitable offered.

- When we checked in we found out that multiple floors in hotel are closed for reservation. Even on our floor only 2 rooms were available for guest and rest were under renovation.

- Room size was now 300+ sq ft only which is barely enough for 4 people to walk in. Forget about luggage and sitting. We ended up getting one more room across the street. Other 3 just suffered cramped space.

- Elevators are small and slooooow. Plan to wait for while. Specially during breakfast time.

- Expect loud construction noises during week days and same elevators are used by construction staff.

- Breakfast quality is good

- Water pressure and temperature is great probably because part of hotel is un occupied because of constructions.

I won't recommend this hotel

The only complaint I have is that the property is under remodeling. The floor I was on was already all remodeled so it was great. Everything was clean new but there’s only two elevators one is taken by the construction. There is a lot of dust around because of the construction. All day long there is construction noise. I am sure the property is going to be great once that remodeling is completed. I did not know this property was under remodeling when I booked it.

Under construction. Big holes in floor next to my door and no lighting when I went out of my room made it very unsafe. Elevator once did not work when I was in it so I took the stairs the rest of the stay. They did provide an earlier check in. No complimentary water. Staff was very nice.

Great staff, went out of their way to help and spoke good English. Room was great, 2 double beds. Location was excellent, only 2 blocks from Copacabana beach. Safe area with plenty of places to eat and drink near by. There is renovation works going on during our stay, but this did not bother us. However there was consideable dust in the lift and communal area, suggest more frequent cleaning of these areas whilst the wor is ongoing. Buffet breakfast was really good, with a great choise of hot and cold food, fruit and pastries. Good value fir money hotel

Very nice stay, would recommend. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly. After we had checked in, they were doing elevator maintenance, and we needed to climb many stairs, but that was only for an hour, so no issues after that

DO NOT STAY HERE! THEY HAVE BEDBUGS!
We checked in, went up to the room, the room did not look at all like the pictures online, apparently they have a few renovated rooms and those are the pictures that they use on Hotels.com, it was very old, dirty and dated, anyway, my wife always look under the mattress for Bed Bugs and there was plenty, we freaked out and she went to the lobby to complain, the check in person told her that he is very sorry and showed her a different room (this is how she saw the renovated room) but we declined because one room has bed bugs means other rooms probably also have bed bugs, so Claudio the check in person told us verbally the refund will be issued the next day, we followed up the next day with hotels.com and were told that the hotel's policy was to not refund (even under the circumstances of bed bugs) and that all Hotels.com could do was offer us $400 Key Cash after we already paid $2875 for a 9 day stay and we are a Platinum tier with Hotels.com and been a customer for over 20 years and we travel a lot. So no more Hotels.com either because they did not stand by their product.

When you see it from the outside, you think it's an old hotel. But when you go inside everything changes. Thomas helped us park the car, he took our luggage to the room, it was the best. He gave us suggestions about the hotel and places to go. He was the sweetest Brazilian... what a nice man. The room is spacious, the breakfast is delicious. It has an incredible rooftop where you can see Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf. We loved it. I recommend it.

The check in was quick and easy. The stuff was super friendly and accommodating. There was one incident wherein I thought I might have left my phone in the tour bus. The guy (from the reception) was diligently getting a hold of the tour accompany; after all I realized I had misplaced my phone in my room. As for my room, it was huge. I had my own jacuzzi in the bathroom. The bedroom is huge too. The bedroom alone is the size of a regular 5-star hotel room. It was really worth my money spent. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel is conveniently located. There is a supermarket a block away. I will definitely come back and suggest Americas Benidorm to friends. (Stayed Aug 28-Sept 03, 2024)

Good value for area and if you don’t expect luxury but want good space in convenient area then really worth it! Breakfast good options too included in price of room
Nice rooftop but no parasols so limited shade area. Small pool and good gym - good to have this area as an option but shame they didn’t have any drinks or food to offer ( can get some nearby though)

The hospitality was amazing and I would rate it very high. Where it seemed to be not so good - and this may be all hotels in Brazil, or just this one - is the bedroom. It was VERY noisy, there was no clock, coffee/tea making machine and very few toiletries. It was basic, but comfortable at the same time. There was a swimming pool, which was very very small. A small gym but beautiful view. So, all in all I would say probably 7/10

This hotel was in a safe area...2 streets away from the famous copacabana beach....a super market across the street...breakfast was great....plenty of options to fill you up before a day of sight seeing or lying at the beach or roof top terrace...the rooms were huge...plenty of room for 4 ppl...even though the hotel was goung through renovations it wasnt a problem....overall if i ever make the journey back to rio i would definitely stay here

Run down is an understatement. Upon early arrival, they sent me to the roof pool to use the one broken down restroom on the roof deck without a lock on the door. The lobby had chunks of floor tile missing, and needed a remodel. As a senior traveling alone on NYE weekend, the location felt unsafe. The immediate neighborhood was crowded, shabby, with lots of people sleeping on the street. I returned to the hotel, and decided to find a different location rather than check in. The hotel manager agreed to only charge me for one night of my 3 night stay if I didn’t stay there, they had a lot of people milling around the lobby. I agreed and found a hotel in a safer area. They charged me for the entire three night stay, and Expedia said they refused to credit me for the two nights they agreed to.

Pros: The hotel location is great. The room was clean, and the AC worked great. The breakfast had good variety, but basic / poor quality.

Cons: biggest issue is staff. Only one staff speaks English, and that lady at the reception desk is always grumpy and rude. The hotel has outdated rip-off policies. They don’t have iron for cloths, even if you ask for one. Instead, they charge you for ironing services. If you need to store your luggage, they also charge. The lady was arguing with me because I needed to store my luggage for 45 min while I get lunch. Really bad customer service. Not sure I would return to this hotel.

The hotel is dated, but it’s in a nice location. The rooms are spacious. The gym is tiny, but in the 5 days we were there, no one else used it at the same time, so this was fine. The only negative was reception tried to charge us for water which we thought was complimentary, as there was no sign or anything indicating we needed to pay. We told reception we would go back to the room with them so he could show us the sign, he quickly changed his mind. This did leave us with a negative impression after overall a pleasant stay.

The hotel was very nice. Located a few minutes to Copacabana beach. Yhe breakfast was nice also. The pool is so tiny it could be mistaken for kiddies' pool. And the habit of charging for luggage storage is overrated. It should be a complimentary gesture to hold a guest's luggage before check in time. It's not a lot of money, but it looks tacky.

I know this is a 30 yr old hotel but hey u could do something to take off the rust, from the knobs & buttons.
I came in with no bulbs ( no lampshade at all) at the bedside reading light( if u are a reader, u need this), shower flooded, toilet button is so old/rusty that the water kept going until I pulled it out.
The wifi didn’t work from the morning I wake up until I came back at night , if u are working & has family— u would choose a hotel that has “wifi” services. I bought a SIM card but of course, it’ll give u limited services, too.

Receptionists speak in a very rude and aggressive tone. I spent over 1 hour in the lobby after being told they can’t find my reservation and the hotel is full. Next after providing confirmation of my booking and payment I was to wait for a refund and that they’ll be in contact with the booking agency. Don’t stay here. Avoid the trouble and rude staff.

Well over roll was amazing. There was only one little detail. Over breakfast some off the food was not fresh. But a few days old . And did tast off abd not cery nicr . Thaf would be ny obly complainant regarding my trip to the hotel. Over roll was all pretty amazing apart from the breakfast. As i previously saud so e ifv thegood was off.

I was there for vacation alone. The employees treat me and my Canadian friend like we were criminals. I didn’t feel safe leaving and arriving at the hotel. The men at the reception were mean and unprofessional. The first room I was given, had no AC and smelled like pee. The second room, water was coming out of the sewage in the toilet and flooded my room. When I advised the front desk they did nothing about if for 2 days. I asked if my friend can come sleep one night and the fee was the double of what i paid for my room which doesn’t make sense.

The cleaning team was lovely and very kind. The breakfast was basic and the same everyday. The location is amazing and the area is safe.
