best hotel we stayed during our 13 day family trip in Brazil, in every nice neighborhood and walking distance to a nice japanese resturant . staff speak english well, which is great. close to CGH but only 35 mins in the moring to GRU as well.

Good location in the middle of everything you need, clean rooms, great breakfast and staff are there to help you if you need something. I had an early flight at check in and even we had to wait until 2:00 pm they have a place to keep your bags, same thing at check out they allowed us to use the facilities, gave us towels to go to the beach and keept our luggage all day until it was time for us to go to airport.

I loved the beds and the shower! Of course the closeness to everything was awesome but i cannot stress how comfortable the bed was and how amazing the shower pressure was after a long day out and about! I will definitely return!

I may have been assigned the worst room in the hotel. While the room is of a good size, it is quite dirty and dark, the bathroom is outdated, and the water pressure becomes very low, almost nonexistent, during peak hours. Breakfast is simple yet adequate, although it can become very crowded around 9 a.m.

I was expecting more of the hotel. Hotel did not offer any flexibility to an additional bed to the room. They said they do not do it even though I wanted to pay extra costs. Furniture in the lobby area is old and tables are wobbly. The same in the restaurant. Bathroom dis not have cold water in the aink. No decoration in the rooms. very disappointed and will never stay there again.

En general el hotel esta bien. Las toallas viejas y la limpieza del baño/ducha no se realiza debidamente, las camas/cuarto muy bien. Desayuno el mismo de siempre todos los dias. Ubicacion excelente y el servicio excelente.
Los 2 unicos detalles son las toallas que son fatales, viejas y en mal estado y la limpieza del baño: tiene hongo de mal lavado por muchos lugares.

Really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very friendly, the room was clean. The area was close to the beach and other shopping, and the bus stops. The biggest negative was the NOISE through the bathroom drains - we could hear everything going on in the bathrooms around us - everything!

Located centrally in Copacabana, with the good and bad of the area. Homeless people are in the whole Rio, if that scares you, you shouldn't come to Rio . Some people stay around the entrace, but they won't bother the guests. The bed was confortable and the staff really nice. However, the bathroom could use a deep cleanning once in a while. Overall it was a great experiemce. Definitly staying there again

This hotel is in a great location. The staff was friendly and check-in was fast and easy. The property is old and I was disappointed to see a couple of bugs in the bathroom. You could pay less and stay in the Centro at a much newer and better hotel. Expedia said this was a 4 star hotel but I don’t think it was correct.

Not worth your money!!

In all the years of using Hotels.com this will be my first negative review of a hotel stay. If you want cheap and near the beach in Rio Janiero this can be your place. The only other thing positive is the water is very hot for showers. Upon check-in I was immediately told I could not get any coffee due to the Covid crisis and there was no room service. This placed offers a free breakfast hot with coffee in the mornings but apparently after breakfast Covid takes the place over. The attitude of the people behind the desk was very flippant and unprofessional they won’t make any recommendations or guide you anywhere but if you wanna book a tour through them they’ll be glad to take your money. They provided a laundry service. DO NOT use it!! It’s very expensive and not worth the price. I was told that I would have my laundry back in one day so I gave it to them the night before and they never returned the laundry. I called and they could not locate it nor seem to be interested in doing an investigation, The following day around noon my laundry finally showed up. Because the restaurant wasn’t functioning the one immediately cross the street was open with good food but again horrible personal service. If you want a cheap hotel that’s near the beach and you want to go out and eat it or maybe a young traveler this is your place. If you’re Traveler like me who gets an executive room and wants a better quality of stay do not ever stay at this place!

Big, comfortable rooms. Nice, but small rooftop with view of Christ the Redeemer. Very small pool. Bed was super comfortable and staff friendly and quick. Breakfast had many choices, including fruits, eggs, meats, breads, cakes, juices, water and coffee.

Nice staff, even most don't speak much of English (but that is normal in Rio) - Alec was very helpful. He recommended us a tour - One Day in Rio with Jony as a guide and was very good. Great location in the middle of Copacabana. Next to the post office, grocery, restaurants, beach... Good breakfast.
On the downside, the size of the swimming pool is such that only kids could utilize it. It is more like a large jacuzzi.

This hotel need improvements ASAP!! The rooms are old and u can here everyone next your room no privacy, shower are bed build when take a shower your bathroom becomes a lake. The mattress in the bad are the worse u can see and feel the individual springs and sinks on the middle I mention to the staff they say they couldn’t do anything about it hotel is busy! The computer on the front desk full of virus and pop ups with pornography again mention to the front desk they didn’t take any action !! Rooftop it’s nothing like the pic the pool is a fish tank sauna it’s duty and rusty!! Location is good that’s about it !! Won’t be staying I have had much much better hotels for half of the price!

Most of the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was very good and there was a good selection of fruit, breads, eggs and breakfast meats. The cleaning staff was friendly and diligent. As the song goes, they absolutely "...work hard for the money, so you better treat her (them) right." However, the rooms that ended as "09", regardless of the floor, have windows that face the hotel's outside air corridor, thus little natural light gets into the rooms and when you open the windows, you get the constant drones of the air conditioner fans of the other rooms and building. Also, be aware of the early check-in fee if you arrive before 2pm and if you decide to leave your bags with the hotel while you go to get breakfast, lunch or explore the area, that too will be done for a fee. Outrageous!!!

Stayed for 5 nights at the end of December 2019 including New Years' Eve. The hotel is well situated for Copacabana beach, Sugar Loaf Mounta8n and Cristo Redentor. Itwas clean and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were all pleasant and happy to answer questions. On New Years' Eve we were given a complimentary bottle of champagne to toast the New Year.

the room was just fine. diego, the manager , was extremely gracious and efficient. The best thing about the hotel, however, were the staff at the desk. Both Pedro and Camila at the front desk are exceptional employees and human beings.
the only things I did not like were minor. Though the restaurant had good food at fair prices, they are guilty of putting too much salt on the food. some people my age cannot have salt. Too much salt is not good for people. the chef should let guests put on their own salt. OTHER THAN THAT, THE ONLY OTHER THING I DID NOT LIKE WAS THAT THE HOTEL HAS NO SWITCHES FOR THE LIGHTS AND THE AIR CONDITIONER. i needed to have two cards because when you removed the card, the room went dark and i CANNOT SEE IN THE DARK AT ALL. IF I FALL I BLEED PROFUSELY BECAUSE I AM ON 2 BLOOD THINNERS EVERY DAY, BY NECESSITY AND IF I BLEED A LOT, I HAVE TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL.

I would recommend this hotel! The hotel is 2 squares away from the beach. There are supermarkets, pharmacies and other stores really close to the hotel. I got to try the pizza from the hotel restaurant and I loved it!. My deluxe room had a lot of space and it was really clean. I only went to the pool once, it is pretty small and the water was cold. But the view from there is amazing, you can see Christ the Redeimer from far away. Another thing is that on expedia it says the hotel has airport transport at limited times. However, when I called I was informed the hotel does not have service to pick up or drop off people from the airport. But there are cheap options that you can use to get to and from the hotel. The hotel has some deals with tourist agencies, so it is possible you can get a tour for a cheaper cost than from an agency outside. Overall a really good stay!

The Room had the best shower I have ever used in Brazil! Clean and very comfortable beds. The check in staff was amazing and spoke English. Excellent full breakfast with eggs, fresh fruit, bread, pastries, three different kinds of cheeses, and fresh juice. A quick walk to copacabana beach. So many amazing restaurants close by. I was sad that we were in the back of the hotel till I opened the window and had a perfect view of the Christ statue, we left the curtains open all night to look at it! I’m staying here again for sure!

Clean and adequate hotel for the price, but I was given a different type of room than I booked. Wrong number and type of beds and no American power outlets as advertised in this particular room. When I asked to change rooms they said there were none available because the hotel was full booked. I went back down to the front desk a second time to ask them to fix the air conditioning unit which wasn’t working, then I had to go back down a third time because housekeeping had not stocked the room with towels. Finally the same guy who originally told me there were no other rooms available decided to just switch me out to another room. But it was the same room type (no American power outlets and wrong type and number of beds). There was at least one towell though. They could do better than that.

Good value for the area, older classic hotel refurbed. Simple and clean. We booked a last minute reservation on a crowded Samba weekend night. Got the last room available, it happened to be two twins. Front Desk Manager noticed us headed out for the evening, and unrequested, sent somebody up to push the two beds together and make them up as a King. Good Service, Nice touch!

If you can afford it, stay somewhere else. Location is fine: close to the beach, safe area, good proximity to lots of restaurants. I thought the staff was fairly unfriendly and not super reasonable. I was overcharged for late checkout (almost the cost of booking another night), and then told that I couldn't bring my friend upstairs so that he could leave his stuff there until our flight in the evening. At another point, I was returning from the beach and told that I needed to put a shirt back on to go inside, which I thought was ridiculous for a beachfront hotel. It wasn't as if I was trying to hang out in the lobby shirtless, just wanted to go to my room.

Copacabana during Carnaval

Mar Palace is a great location. It is about 2 blocks from Copacabana beach. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance. The hotel is clean, cool, comfortable, and very safe. As an American I was impressed with the security of the building which requires key-cards to access the guest floors. There is plenty of access to taxis, wifi, breakfast is delicious, and the rooftop deck has a beautiful view of Christ the Redeemer. Our stay was extremely pleasant at Mar Palace Copacabana and I would recommend it to anyone planning to visit Rio.

reception staff VERY unwelcoming, not smiling, dismissive, rude.
checked me into a smoking room despite request. when went down to tell the receptionist, she didn't believe me and sent me up again with a bellboy. after twice up and down (in the slow elevators), I had to wait another 40 minutes.
When my guide came with me to the hotel for an hour, the bully at the reception pounded on me aggressively and said it's not allowed without payment. Nothing about this was mentioned in advance during reservation or reception or service directory. 10 minutes of arguments ensued until the manager relented.

the hotel is close to the beach 200 meters or so

check in was quick but none too friendly. The room was large but very sparsley decorated and the air conditioning was like a jet engine - seriously but other than that the room was comfortable and I spent some time thinking how sensational it could be especially at the price I was paying. I enjoyed breakfast very much although it is very loud but other food choices were very poor - some inedible!
Overall I am sorry to say this but this was a 5* hotel price with little more than 2* facilities. The pool area was a disaster - the bar was never manned and even when calling for service, took quite some time to respond - 3 loungers and a pool the size of a plunge pool which was too hot to use in the afternoon - think about refrigeration for the summer months.
The worst experience of my life and I use Expedia every time I travel. I also had to make my own way to and from the hotel at a cost of 250 reals when I had already paid for transfers with expedia.

Hotel staff at the reception is not helpful at all

Big cockroach under our bed, they robbed us at the beach and I had to cancel my credit cards but was not able to make any international call from the hotel which was really disappointing as I was in total despair to block my credit cards. They even charged me for those calls that were only attempted but the calls did not go through.

A really good deal! Centrally located on the main thoroughfare along Copacabana and just a street away fr the Metro and the tourist information centre. It cost so much less than other hotels which had sea views. Imho, sea view hotels were overrated. There was a daily breakfast buffet. Tho the same spread was served, there was great enough variety that you could have different breakfasts daily. Staff spoke good English. Would rec fellow travels and return myself too!

Great trip to Rio for the Olympics. Only minor concern of stay was safe was broken in the room. Security of hotel is tight enough that didn't matter- although when traveling internationally would have been nice to lock up passport.

Dark room and no cleaning during our stay

Our room was interior and the only window was to the pipe works of the hotel. Nasty. Nobody clean during the 3 nights we were there. More like a 2 star motel than 4 star. Location is good and breakfast is good. Staff ok.

Reasonable hotel three blocs from the beach.

The overall experience was OK for the price.
It was frustrating to have only one elevator in working conditions during the 5 days I stayed there. Sometimes had to take the stairs as the wait for the only elevator was so long.

Wouldn't stay here again

We stayed here during Carnaval. First, it's tough to find a hotel room at the last minute during Carnaval, so don't prolong booking your trip. Second, I understand the price is going to be higher during this time. For the price during Carnaval, this hotel was fine. However, in general, I was not impressed with this hotel. It was a little outdated and not particularly clean (hairs on the sheets and dirty pillow cases); the beds weren't comfortable; and the service was lame. Check-in was nice, but when you walked in to the hotel throughout the day, the staff never said hello and were kind of cold. I wouldn't stay here again.

Great location, close to the beach. Amazing room

Beautiful room which was rather large and spacious. Close to the beach (within 5 mins walking). The staff were very friendly and helpful

Family friendly, clean, and welcoming. Only complaint was that the wifi didn't work very well in the rooms.

Reveillon 2015

We are a family of 5 with older teenage children. We stayed for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year Holiday. The Hotel was located one block from the beach. The staff was friendly, helpful. They offered information on tours and made reservations for us. The breakfast buffet was well done. Pool terrace is small but the space is well done and there is a bar and room service availability. Lobby and rooms are clean and well kept. I would recommend the hotel.

Nice hotel close to beach but not having a view

It is located in Copacabana but on a street parallel to the the beach and not having a view. Otherwise everything was very good. We had a room at 13th floor (penthouse) and it was spacious and well equipped (including a bidet and a toilet with shower beside the regular shower). The included breakfast was good and the hotel also provided restaurant services for dinner.
Staff was very polite and helpful (although few spoke English).
