Overall, our stay was just okay, but we experienced several recurring issues. Upon arrival, our room had no hand towels or bath mats. We requested them at the front desk and were told they’d be sent up, but the interaction felt dismissive and we had to follow up again.
We found 3 cockroaches in the room. There were no alternative rooms available, so we requested a deep cleaning. Even after that, the towel issue continued.
One evening, I accidentally left my phone in an Uber. Gabriel, who was working that night, went above and beyond to contact the driver and help me recover it. His professionalism and kindness truly stood out.
We also overheard another guest say they left dirty towels on the floor for replacement, as instructed. After housekeeping cleaned the room, those same towels were placed back on the racks. Gabriel fixed it immediately when told.
The rooms are small and sand builds up quickly, making housekeeping especially important.
At checkout, we were required to leave by noon, which was fine. Since our flight was at 10pm, we asked ahead of time if we could return later to shower and were assured it wouldn’t be an issue. When we returned and requested towels, the interaction at the front desk, again with Filipe, felt dismissive. When I asked housekeeping directly, I was asked for money for a towel.
Our repeated interactions with Filipe lacked warmth and professionalism. Each time we approached him, he appeared visibly annoyed and eager to

No suelo escribir reseñas negativas de hoteles, pero en esta ocasión me siento realmente obligada a hacerlo.
Viajé a Río con tres amigas, con quienes suelo viajar con frecuencia, para disfrutar del último día de Carnaval. Elegimos este hotel porque se anuncia como 4 estrellas, esperando un estándar acorde a esa categoría. Sin embargo, la experiencia estuvo muy lejos de lo esperado.
El baño de la habitación no estaba en condiciones adecuadas, y tanto las toallas como las sábanas estaban sucias. Esto nos provocó un fuerte episodio de alergia durante la estadía, algo que jamás nos había ocurrido en otros viajes.
Lo más desagradable sucedió el día que salíamos hacia el Carnaval. El recepcionista, Ken, intentó sacar provecho de la situación haciendo que el taxista contratado nos cobrara más de lo acordado, aparentemente para llevarse una comisión. Fue una situación muy incómoda y decepcionante, especialmente tratándose de un hotel que se presenta como 4 estrellas.
Lamentablemente, esta experiencia afectó por completo lo que debía ser un viaje especial entre amigas. Espero que el hotel tome medidas para mejorar tanto la higiene como la profesionalidad de su personal.

The hotel was fine. The issue is the staff.. The front desk guy(bold) was very rude all times , Room without a/c and he spend all day long coordinating to be fixed but it never happen also he refused to change our room. Always rude and non polite behavior with me but all guests .
Also the hotel refused to give me another card ,just 1 key for 2 people and the power only function with the card so if you need to go to anyplace ,the card must be with you in order to take the elevator but people who stay in the room will be without power or a/c .When i asked to the same guy for another key he was so rude saying NOOO…
Otherwise good location,great breakfast..

Guys if any of solo travellers planning to book the economy studio room I suggest book it for 1 night then decide whether you want to extend or not. I booked for 10 nights and the AC was leaking and the hotel refused to return me my balance nights. The room is extremely small. Thanks to
Hotels.com i manage to get a refund. Will never stay here again.

Room is a bit small and the bathroom is very tiny. But everything is very clean.
The location is excellent for Copacabana beach, only 2 blocks and easy to walk to.
We stayed here for NYE, minimum 3 nights. The price was quite high (that's why the 4 stars, too expensive for what they offer).
Breakfast is decent, but I recommend find a \"panificadora\" (bakery shop) near by. You can find Atlântica Panificação or Santa Marta Panificadora about 10 minutes walking distance.

As mentioned earlier, they held my Uber on the way to the airport. I frequently travel and have never been held in my room while they checked it. Since they have my information and credit card, I even stayed an extra day to leave the place peacefully. However, they treated me like a criminal.

I was stopped from leaving during checkout because they insisted I stay while they checked the room, even though they had my credit card on file. They even held up my Uber. It was unnecessary and humiliating. It made me feel unwelcome. I won't recommend to anyone, especially if is a male of color, to stay in this hotel. I’m considering filing a complaint about the receptionist and bellboy holding me against my will. If there was a problem with my room, which there wasn’t, I even throw my trash every day. So, why would they need me? What would they do if they found something wrong?

Smell + Smell + Smell: worse hotel condition in my entire professional and tourism life spanning across 25 years.
I could not bear to stand even for 15 mins and room was extra tiny.
Only location was in good area, the rest was unbearable, and I left in half an hour to other hotel.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Astoria, spacious room and good breakfast. Some areas are a bit dated but all very clean.
The area is full of restaurants and shops and it is a 5 mins walk to the beach. The hotel also offers tours that can be booked at check in. We would stay again if back in Rio.

As for the location, it is excellent, with numerous shops, restaurants, and the beach in close proximity. I was pleased with it. Regarding the hotel: Upon entering the room, we discovered that the sheets were soiled, stained with makeup, and had black marks. When we lodged a complaint, the staff provided a false explanation, stating that the maid was parking, which was a blatant untruth. Only one night agent demonstrated exceptional attentiveness. Upon checkout, he informed us that our bags would be stored, and we were welcome to visit the beach, return, and utilize the facilities bathroom However, upon our return, although our bags were stored as promised, we were unable to shower or change due to a reported lack of towels, which was unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. The baggage handler consulted with the front desk staff, who confirmed the unavailability of towels. This hotel proved to be the most disappointing establishment I have ever had the misfortune of booking.

I love front desk Felipe and everybody else who works there. This has hot & cold water. Good breakfast. Everything you need in walking distance. The beach is about 5-7 minutes walk.
They also have tour activities to buy from.

My room was a twin bed but comfortable for one person. It was quiet and perfect for my 6 days stay.

I would go back if I eve have the chance to return to Brasil.

Dislike: Accused of taking confectionery from mini bar, which we didn’t. Insisted we pay extra, which led to delay in checking out while taxi was waiting and in panic to find money to pay for confectionery resulted in wife’s purse with a considerable amount of USD being dropped.
In trying to contact hotel to see if anyone handed in the lost purse, once we realised in Iguasso, no response from several calls and messages.

My stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing for several reasons.

First, the room was absurdly small, leaving barely enough space to move around. To make matters worse, the air conditioning remote didn’t work, preventing me from adjusting the swing settings. The room had an awful odour and desperately needed air circulation, but the air conditioning made the tiny space unbearably cold within minutes, even at a standard setting of 24–25 degrees. This left me with two unpleasant choices: endure the horrible smell all night or freeze. Unfortunately, I caught a cold due to the cold temperature.

The noise from the lift was another major issue. I could hear it clearly from inside my room throughout the night, making it nearly impossible to get any sleep.

The bathroom facilities were inadequate and unhygienic. They provided just one tiny bar of soap to be shared between the sink and shower—absolutely unacceptable. Additionally, there was no shampoo provided, which is a basic amenity in any hotel.

The check-in process was shockingly slow. Despite having two staff members at the reception, it took nearly 20 minutes to process just two check-ins before it was my turn.

The worst part of my experience was dealing with an incredibly rude and unprofessional staff member during check-in. This arrogant older man made the process unnecessarily complicated, even though I had completed all the steps online and prepaid for my stay. He insisted that I fill out all my details on a piece

Good location close to beach and metro station, taxi's usually outside or close by. Staff very friendly and helpful especially evening staff help with information about places to visit and how to get there using metro. Room good size and large roomy shower and plenty hot water. Staff helpful with logging on to internet which was good but if a problem there was a separate computer in reception you could use also helpful if needed to print something. Good breakfast starting 6.30. Shops close by. Would stay here again

The hotel is in a good location, three blocks from Copacabana. There is parking, which worked well for us. The hotel does not have recent facilities. So if someone is looking for a hotel with recent or new facilities, this is not the hotel for you. But in my case, it worked for us, the bathroom and the beds are ok. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I do recommend it for those who are not fussy or demanding regarding the facilities. I liked it and I give it a rating of 8.5. I would like to point out that you only have to walk across the street and on the corner there is a place to go to eat, whether it is breakfast if you don't like the hotel, lunch or dinner. They open early and close late. I recommend the delicious juices (Sucos).

Unfortunately, our recent stay at [Hotel Name] was extremely disappointing. The hotel's online photos grossly misrepresent its actual condition. Our room had:

•⁠ ⁠Uncomfortable pillows
•⁠ ⁠Outdated bathroom
•⁠ ⁠Cockroaches
•⁠ ⁠No security measures in place

Additionally, we witnessed other guests reporting theft from their rooms in the lobby. The overall experience was unsettling and fell far short of our expectations.

Had to swap rooms several times due to FILTHY bed sheets/towels/ overall room. The third time around they wouldn’t even swap me anymore, they just sent the bellboy up to my room and had him change my comforter and sheets, which were also dirty. They also tried to charge me for a water that I did not drink. When I asked them to put me in a different hotel, they said company policy says we can’t do that. They never apologized for anything and acted like I was an inconvenience

Hotel Astoria Copacabana is an excellent bargain hotel with features that make it more than just a bargain: gym equipment, a pool, free breakfast, cordial front-desk staff, and a highly convenient location in between two Metrô stops and two blocks from the beach. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience Rio on a budget.

I would recommend this hotel to family and friends, it's very convenient, and close to the beach, stores, restaurants, subway, bus stop. Excellent breakfast buffet, superb service. I arrived early in the morning and was not due to check in until 2.00pm. I asked the man on reception if he could let me know if a room became available sooner so I could pay for another day and he found one immediately. The room was clean and the breakfast was good.
