The rooms are run down and the photos are deceptive.

Staff on the front desk are the worst I have ever experiened. The woman who checked us in was rude, arrogant and incompetent. It seems she gave us the worst rooms she could find - unless they are all this bad. Requested two rooms together in advance, multiple times, and she tried to put us in one room. Then blamed us for not requesting the two rooms, together. Checkout was almsot as bad as we had to wait whilw the two people on the desk finsihed their jobs and converstion before even acknowledging us.

Good breakfast and good location but none of this makes up for the run down rooms and rude desk staff.

The only thing I liked about this hotel was the location.

At breakfast, the selection was limited.

I did not enjoy my stay at this place.

If I return to Rio, which I probably will, this hotel is off the

list of places to stay.

At the front desk, and everyone else, were very

disconnected and vague about everything.

Anyway, it is behind me now, but I learned from this

experience.

Muy buen hotel con excelente personal y servicio. Queda cerca de todo, el centro comercial y la playa. La zona es tranquila y segura. El hotel super cómodo, limpio y el desayuno muy variado y rico.
Lo único en lo que estoy descontenta es el horarios de checking: 15 hs y como tiene muchos huéspedes se pierde más de una hora para poder ingresar y a las 16 hs ya es tarde. Sería bueno q las 12 o 13 hs así se puede aprovechar la tarde.

Nos alojamos 2 noches. Fue muy poco tiempo y queriamos recorrer Rio. Casi no estuvimos en el hotel. Pero cumplió su objetivo a la perfección. Es un hotel anticuado. Nosotros buscabamos algo bien ubicado, con buen desayuno y precio razonable. Cumplió su objetivo 100%. Si buscan eso, lo recomiendo!!

El hotel esta bastante bien ubicado, cerca de la playa de Copacabana e Ipanema, es limpio pero un poco antiguo en lo que respecta a sus instalaciones. La atención en recepción y el check-in en mi opinión deja bastante que desear, tuvimos que esperar hasta incluso luego de las 15hs (hora del check-in) porque no tenían las habitaciones listas, además de que la recepcionista no fue para nada amable en su atención.

Very different from photos, terrible views

Definitely very different to photos. View was AWFUL and people were dropping brownwater from the windows from the buildings. It looked old and not cared for. There was no option to choose another view, and you get stuvk looking at a wall from the window.

I was glad i only stayed for a night.

Just a room. 2 blocks from the beach.

Keep in mind that the city of Rio is 15-20 years past it's prime. Hotel Savoy, like most others, is in dire need of renovation. Additionally, it seems that Brazil was never exactly known for artisans. \"Finishing\" seems to be a foreign concept. Gaps in trim on walls, counters and the like are pretty normal, even in \"luxury\" accommodations. This hotel, however, is not luxurious. With that said, the room with a double bed is tiny. The bed barely fits. The walls are so thin you can literally hear your neighbors every word. The \"courtyard\" view was more of an alley. The walls near the AC vents were painted black, which, I can only assume was done to mask a mold or mildew problem. The bathroom was small as well. The good. Service was very good. From check-in (They let me check in around 11), luggage storage, room service and any issues were dealt with quickly and politely. The water pressure in the shower was great. The hotel is 2 blocks from the beach. The breakfast buffet was decent. The AC worked. The rooms have a mini-fridge. Overall, it's fair. If you're looking for a room near the beach at a reasonable price this hotel might be right for you. It's a room, not much more.

Stay away from this place. Not only our money was stolen from our room, but the manager treated my husband and I like WE WERE THE CRIMINALS. After acting like our story was made up, having security open up our luggage and look for the money everywhere in the room (which wasn't found, of course) the manager told us they are not responsible for any missing items or money. Our vacation was completely ruined by this experience.

My favorite hotel of the four I stayed at recently

This was the fourth hotel I stayed at on my recent trip and it ended up being my favorite. I wanted to try a lot of different hotels and not get stuck at one I hated for the entire time. Of the other three, one other one was in Copa, and the other two were in centro.

I was very familiar with this area and thoroughly enjoyed everything I needed being right outside the hotel within a block. Grocery store, bank, Subway, McDonalds, Starbucks, Dominoes and a couple of self serve restaurants within two blocks.

The morning breakfast was pretty standard but I have no complaints. I ended up with a very large king size bed in what was supposed to be a standard room that I got at the last minute at a great rate.

The elevators in this hotel all worked great (I was on the 6th floor). There was no noise issue at all from Nossa Senora Avenue outside. Also, one of two hotels I stayed at that actually had central air.

They stored my luggage in the back for a few hours until I left for the airport.

This will definitely be on my list of preferred hotels next time and I may even book the entire 3 week trip at this particular place since now I know what to expect.

Overall this hotel is good and close to all happenings, few mins walk tot he beach. But what I dislike or not understand is the hotel front desk staff refused to let one of my visitor to my room the next day (even refused to register him), saying that the hotel rules does not allow the customers to bring their visitors to their room but could meet the visitors at the lobby. I checked the website o the hotel and found no where this rules is stated or mentioned. Can the hotel show to me the rule? At last, I have to pay extra to get my friend stay with me in my room which for me is a little upset. The person at the front desk at that evening was rude and saying that \"I cannot allow your visitor up\". So, if anyone of you wanna bring your frens or visitors to your room, this is definitely not the hotel to stay.

Not a good experience this time.
Killed two roaches one after check-in and one at check-out..
One positive note the breakfast was top of the line 10 on a scale of 5..

Well appointed and located budget hotel

This hotel is part of the othon hotels. Not one of their luxury hotels but very good . Well located to the beachs both copacabana and ipanema. I chose this hotel for the price during carnival week as the luxury hotels facing the beach (my usual preference) were far overpriced due to carnival week. Despite those comments I would definitely stay here again.

It was rubbish. They displayed photos on the website of a nearby much more up market Orthon Hotel, with a roof top pool and other luxurious features, as if they were located at this one. It was a very basic hotel nothing like three and a half stars would give the impression, and for that it was ridiculously overpriced. The electricity power point with a multi nationality plug capability packed up during my stay but despite my pointing it out at reception it wasn't fixed while I was there. Fortunately I wasn't there long.

Wouldn't advise staying at this hotel

I would have scored the hotel a lot higher because it was clean and the beds were comfortable. However the hotel \"made a mistake\" with the bill and then charged us extra even though I had already paid up. Was a really disappointing end to an otherwise pleasant stay. Also there is a hotel right next door part of the same chain with a swimming pool but guests are not allowed access to it from this hotel.

Just an OK hotel, outdated hotel, great location

Stayed at this hotel for a night because of my flight cancellation. The hotel condition is pretty outdated, the room is not very well maintained , not very clean, the shower area is very tiny, the bed is not comfortable and no way to control the AC so it can get really cold at night. Free wifi at the lobby but charged at the room so the lobby can be crowded. The breakfast is not that bad. The staffs are quite nice. My favorite about this hotel is just a location, just a couple blocks from Copacabana, close to Metro and a lot of restaurants, grocery stores and banks around. Would check out other hotels before I would stay there again...

The Best of Brazil

A wonderful hotel situated in the heart of Copacanbana. In walking distance to the beach, shopping, the subway and almost everything that one might want to do in the city. There is a great breakfast in the morning.
I have had an opportunity to stay at this property on previous occasions and always find the staff and the hotel to be the best of Brazil, whether in Rio de Janiero, Salvador da Bahia or Sao Paulo. Thanks again for sharing and making the trip memorable!!!!!

Great stay!
Hotel location is great, just a street back from the beach with loads of shops and food around. The area was well lit and we never felt unsafe.
Our room was really nice, nice big comfy bed with good pillows, big bathroom with good shower, and there was air con, a tv, a safe and a fridge.
The breakfast was great - everything you could think of - cereal, fruits, bread, cake, yoghurt, coffees, juices, cheeses and meats.
You could only get free wifi in the lobby. There were loads of lounges and chairs but it was quite loud when we had to make Skype calls.
Only downer from our stay was one of the reception staff kept trying to sell us things and upsell. It was a bit awkward. Rest of the staff were great and helpful and had good English which was good because our Portuguese is non existent!

Nice hotel, great location

I stayed here for a couple of nights and really enjoyed my stay. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from copacabana beach and near shops, restaurants banks etc and on the main bus route.

All staff I came across were very nice and helpful, offering to help me hook any trips I needed, taking care of my luggage after I checked out etc.

Breakfast was included and very nice.

My room was very comfortable with a nice en suite. There was an in room safe and a fridge too. The only downside is wifi, it is complimentary in the lobby but if you want wifi access in the bedrooms you have to pay extra.

Other than the wifi though, this was a nice hotel and I'd stay here again.

Nice place in Copacabana to stay. The staff was friendly made it feel safe and secure and spoke English well and even helped arrange a taxi to the airport. They also do currency exchange there which is convenient. You do however have to pay to Wifi which is kind of a jip since it is a nice hotel.

Great 7 night stay

Great value and location. Stayed 7 nights in total as we kept adding nights over Carnaval. Very secure with security present all the time. Added bonus of free towel & umbrella use for the beach. There are a dozen loungers & umbrellas situated at the beach but it's first in. Reception staff are fantastic and speak English.

The hotel is old and needs refurbishing. The location is very convenient to public transport and to the beach. The internet surcharge in the rooms forces most guests to hang out in the lobby, making it a loud place to be if you need to work, and for the prices charged, it simply is not worth it, there are better options in Copacabana.

Only stayed one day after a business trip. Very friendly and helpful staff,. Two young receptionists spoke English very well. Hotel was flexible to allow us to leave luggage and dress after checkout. Very reasonable rate with Hotels.com even during tourist season. Two blocks from beach. Could not ask for more for the price.

Good location but simple rooms

The location is nice in copacabana, but the rooms are very simple with low quality furnishings and bedding. We were particulary miffed about paying per day for internet and only being able to use it on one device at a time. Most irksome was the reservation manager, Paulinho's, impolite refusal of allow my boyfriend's entrance to the hotel to help my mother and I with our bags. We explained he wouldn't be staying long and just wanted to help and wait for us to freshen up before heading to lunch. The manager very rudely suggested he wait in the lobby. We even offered to pay a fee, but we're told he'd have to pay for an entirely new room just to come up with us for a quarter of an hour. Sheesh! Last time we stay at the Savoy.

My father and I were in Rio for the Wold Cup. The staff was multilingual and very helpful. The rooms and accommodations were good. The location of the hotel makes metro and bus access very easy. Also, the hotel is only a short walk away from Copacabana beach.

Great Copacabana Hotel

I have stayed at four hotels in Copacabana and this far the best hotel I have stayed in. It is not on the strip but behind which makes it a bit cheaper dispite the high prices. Overall it was a good hotel from the room and very clean. Also the front desk was helpful and friendly. I really recommend this hotel.

The room was above my expectation. It was was bigger than I expected and very clean. Most of the front desk staff spoke some english or spanish which made communication easier. The breakfast was great for a hotel. The hotel is centrally located just about 2 blocks from the beach and is walking distance from the subway station. It is also close to several restaurants and bars. There is free wifi connection in the lobby, for wifi in your room there is a charge. The bath tubs are a bit small and the shower head is low, so if you are about 6ft you might bump your head a few times. Also, if possible get a room above the third floor to get away from some of the street noise

Ideal spot for the beach and shopping.

I am Brazilian and from Rio. I have stayed over the past 20 years in another Hotel in Copacabana but decided the prices has soared lately .So,I thought I would try the Savoy as it belongs to a very reputable chain ( Othon) and was glad I did,.I have already booked it again . The staff is very helpful,the location is unbeatable !

A well situated value for money hotel

The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Because it isn't on the seafront you don't pay the premium prices that are normally associated with seafront hotels. In reality, most rooms in those don't actually have a sea view any way. The decor isn't exactly state of the art but I have always found my room to be clean, the water to be hot and the staff to be friendly and efficient.

Room was spacious but on street side and the noise from traffic was horrendous, I am not a light sleeper & even I had trouble sleeping. I would probably not stay at hotel again due to noise or would need a room at the back of the hotel. Buffy breakfast was great.

Savoy Othon Hotel Review

I think this hotel would have had been good back in the days but right now it lacks the charm, cleanliness, proper upkeep of the rooms. It seems it hasn't been renovated in ages. According to the amount I paid, the bed sheets were mediocre, toiletries were bad and the blankets were dirty and dusty.

I wont recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff help you any time, with any question and suggestion, also I want to mention that the tours that I hired with the staff of this hotel were THE BEST, excelent guides, perfect service and very good prices, the best, I was so glad I stayed in this place.

Good, clean hotel in a good location

This hotel is on the main commercial street in Copacabana. There are lots of stores and restaurants on this street, with lots of people on the street, and it seemed very safe to me. The Cantagalo Metro stop is only 3 blocks away, and the beach only 2 blocks away.
I arrived there after traveling 3 weeks with an adventure tour group and it was so nice to be able to get in touch again with the world, as they have CNN on the television. I got a room in the back, which was quiet, but unfortunately the air conditioning system in my room was pretty loud, and I got tired of the noise, turned it off and opened the window.
There is a great restaurant only a couple of blocks down the same street which is a buffet, and you put food on your plate, they weigh it, and you pay by the weight. They have a lot of nice salads and vegetables, which I think is unusual in Brazil. But nothing is really cheap in Brazil. Having a nice meal there cost me about $13.

Basic hotel

This is a very basic hotel, the price was high, but it was Carnival, all hotels were jacked up in price. It certainly was not worth the price we paid, but it served our basic needs. The room was old and outdated and the window looked out onto a dark brick wall. Our friends who booked a larger room had a better view and a remodeled room with updated furniture and bathroom. The breakfast was good.

Run down Copacabana

Free breakfast is very good and it is much more than at a regular U.S. hotel.
The hotel is very old and at Expedia rates I got a very small room in lower floor with a window to a tiny courtyard. The window across the courtyard was about 10 yards from mine.
Ice cost is $5 real a bucket.

Not the must luxurious but very satified with the service and hospitality. The location and rates makes it worth the stay.

Good Standards in Copacabana

The hotel was clean, the room was a nice size and freshly decorated, the breakfast was good, the hotel was well located and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for good value and good standards.

I stay there all the time

Savoy Othon is just what is expected for the price: clean sheets, clean rooms, nice staff, good breakfast. No frills. Very convenient: the Metro station is just two blocks away. Copacabana beach just two blocks away. The Bus stop just a block away.

Good location

We would be happy to stay here again. The location was excellent with the beach only 2 blocks away and the area seemed safe. The room was nice and the breakfast was good. The staff were friendly although they could not answer many of our questions about travel in the area.

Easy to get to by bus from local airport. Good breakfast. Everything was fine. Rates for tours were very high, so we just took local buses.

Good location, but noisy to neighbour

Good location, but noisy to neighbour room (old door in between) and strong smell of smoke through ventilation. Aircondition was blowing hard, and it smelt when turning it off. Lot of flies on the bathroom. Has not done much to the hotel the last 25 years. Will not stay there the next time.

Savoy Othon Travel

The place is only a block away from the beach and close to a subway station and major bus lines. The hotel doesn;t have a gym, but there several just a block away. Rooms are clean and there is everything expected for a 2 star hotel. Breakfast is free and generous
