The standard king bedroom requires a lot of maintenance. Dirty & worn carpet, tv not working, fridge leaking water, bathroom extraction fan very loud & the rooms temperature control was installed but not connected to anything.

This place is special. Get an ocean front room with fireplace. Amazing. We watched a sea otter playing in the surf in front of our room then watched a spectacular sunset from our patio then warmed up by the fireplace. The restaurant was very good. We ate dinner and breakfast there. The staff was great, especially the very welcoming woman who checked us in and speaks multiple languages! Sorry we dont know her name but she was delightful. We weren't there long enough to use any of the other amenities but everything looked great.

First, the views from our room and the property in general are amazing! With the benches for facing the ocean and the chimnea fires also available to stay warm while enjoying the sunset, it is an ideal place to view the sun setting over the ocean. Super friendly staff to answer any questions! i usually ask lots of questions.
Breakfast is so close that you do not need a car! Also great staff there too!

Made reservations for 2 queen beds for 4 guests got a upgrade offer for a oceanfront paid extra for it but got upgraded to 1 king room for 4 people after complaining they changed us to a room with 1 king plus sofa bed and that sofa bed was the most oldest and the most uncomfortable bed ever and they said it was not their mistake it was our fault for taking an upgrade but couldn’t understand why they would send an upgrade offer for 4 guests with 1 king never I would think that could have been the case all it said upgrade your room to a oceanfront for additional fee. They did not compensate us all they did was send me back to expedia to fight with given the fact that the upgrade offer was from the hotel and not expedia. Rooms were very old very smelly the view and location was amazing cant say anything about that. Other than that it was horrible. Very disappointed paid 350$ for one night of nightmare. They also said they will setup the sofa bed and they did not we went back to front desk they said housekeeping service went home and they gave us stuff for us to open and setup ourself and that pillows and sheets and everything was dirty smelly. I can go on and on but will keep it at this.

For what we paid for a this room is was greatly over priced. Thin walls, could hear and feel neighbors when the kids jumped on the bed and bounced agents the wall. No AC which made the room stuffy. The only good thing is that it is on the ocean and could hear the waves.

This place needs a new makeover. Everything was outdated. The carpet was so dirty and filthy. When you take a shower, the drain is so slow it fills up the tub. The only nice thing is the location and the staff. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I booked a three day stay and left on the second day. 1 star

The views are great! The property is very tired as are the rooms. There was no service for fresh towels after 3 days, no restocking the Kureg coffee, no trash pick up...nothing.
The restaurant food was awful! Seemed like frozen Costco food popped in the micro. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, don't stay. If you have kids, they can run amok and have fun.

The oceanfront location was amazing! We loved being able to walk to the beach and watch the waves at sunset. The hotel room's carpet could use some updating, but the free wine was a nice touch. One drawback was the limited dining options nearby. The hotel's proximity to the lighthouse and elephant sea lions was a big plus. Cambria is a great nearby town to explore.

I booked the premium suite not just for the ocean view from the balcony but also for the mini refrigerator as I have to safely store BM. However, the fridge could barely stay cold. The room was a little outdated but overall comfortable.

We always stay in the oceanfront rooms. There are very few places on the CA coast with rooms with balconies situated so near to the crashing waves. Although we feel that the rooms could use some upgrading, we also know that if they do ever upgrade, we probably won't be able to afford to stay here--LOL! So we'll continue to enjoy the charm of the outdated rooms that offer unobstructed and private ocean views. The rooms are always clean which is the most important factor. Love hiking in the area and convenience to Cambria for meals.

This hotel location is beautiful! It’s on a lovely open area and in the perfect spot for day tripping. The hotel room was clean but on the older side. It smelled like camp fire due the the fireplace in the room! Beautiful ocean view from the room! We were on the first floor and had a family above us that sounded like a heard of elephants so hard to sleep but other than that it was a great spot!

Great location and view. Pool and hot tub were OK. Check in staff was not very friendly and rushed a bit. The sheets were very rough and the bed was very firm. Had a hard time getting to sleep. The TV was ancient decades ago. The cable is analog and most of the channels were fuzzy. There is no microwave. The refrigerator is filled with minibar stuff so you can’t fit any of your stuff in there. We had a great patio with a beautiful view of the ocean. Really enjoyed the sunsets. But at night the fire pits by the beach ended up smelling up our whole room so we had to close the patio door and lose the ocean sounds. Had a couple of good breakfast orders delivered from the restaurant. Overall wonderful location and ocean views, but needs some upgrades.

Staff is super nice. Parking is easy and the room is huge and clean. But does not have an AC. I wouldn’t go in the summer. I used the fan in the spring but it wouldn’t do for me in the summer. Also, there was a construction close to my room from 10-4pm. Luckily, I had planned to leave the hotel at 10am to visit Hearst Castle. So, that was manageable. The pool is great! And the beach is right there. Beautiful view and sunset!

If you're looking for a coastal getaway on the Central Coast, the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort in San Simeon, CA is an absolute gem. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome — everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay.
We stayed in a Deluxe King Room with a patio and ocean view on the first floor — a perfect setup for us and our service dog. The patio gave our pup easy outdoor access without any hassle, and waking up to an ocean view was simply beautiful. It's worth noting that first floor rooms come with a patio while second floor rooms have a balcony — the layouts are otherwise the same, so it just comes down to personal preference.
The room itself was comfortable and well-appointed, and when I called to request fluffier pillows, they were delivered promptly — a small touch that made a big difference.
We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant and were thoroughly impressed. The Chicken Marsala was absolutely delicious — we enjoyed every single bite. It's the kind of meal that makes you want to skip going out altogether.
The Cavalier is a special place — beautifully situated along the Pacific, with a team that clearly takes pride in making every guest feel at home. We will definitely be returning, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway on the California coast.

The location facing the ocean cannot be beat. Beautiful grounds with lawns, evening fire pits and two pools. Even though our building was perpendicular to the coast, we still had an ocean view and lovely ocean sounds all night. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful location and lots of activities for families. Beach games, fire pits, pool and spa. The property was also dog friendly at no extra charge which was very nice. The rooms are a little dated, but clean. The fridge is stocked with drinks and snacks which was convenient too. The bed was a bit uncomfortable, mattress toppers could easily solve that problem. There was also no air conditioning and it was a hot day. We were told they are not allowed in that county. Some kind of room fan or ceiling fan would have been wonderful.

Location was good but a King deluxe ocean view was partially blocked with a tall bush. You could see scum on the pools tile edging. The hot tub felt a little slimy. The back of our door was dirty and marked up with holes. The coffee cup was in a plastic bag but was not washed! The deluxe room was small. No screen in the patio door. No microwave. They put so much stuff in the honor bar there was hardly any room for our stuff. For price it was doable $178/nt. It was a great place for dogs. Saw lots of pups! Probably won’t be back though

We love this location! And the pricing is always great. This trip however, there were some minor inconveniences like the room was not ready at check in and the phone in the room wasn’t working and had some trouble with the card keys. However, we made do with the help of the staff, all was well and it was yet another great stay in San Simeon/ Cambria. Absolutely loved it!

I would never return. What was advertised was not what we got, there was no body soap in the shower no towel for the pool, the pool had green algae in it, the grass looked like it hadn’t been mowed in months. The chairs in the room covers over them and smelled bad the slider to the patio was very difficult to open, we called the manager and never had a return call, I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy I’m sorry I ever booked my reservation here.
