The male receptionist was dirty with rather bad body odour, he had the same cloths on the next day. The room was extremely dirty with brown mould in sink and dirty marks on walls. I had to use my own bed quilt to use the bed and dispose of it the next day.

Hotel Bruce does not purport to be a five-star luxury hotel and it isn't. It is a tired old hotel that is functional and comfortable. Located just off the highway it is very quiet. The rooms are tidy and some what clean. The bed was comfortable and the sheets seemed clean. Check-in was very easy. If you need a cheap place to stay in the south east of Melbourne then this hotel is very suitable.

This hotel is definitely not 4 star as advertised. The carpets in our suite were worn out, stained and quite disgusting! The fridge had something like meat blood frozen in the tray under the freezer and running down the back of the inside wall. Gardens were full of weeds and unkept. Pool was so dirty we couldn’t see the bottom.

The Bruce is old and in need of some updates but it was clean and comfortable. There was plenty of car parking and it was quiet. The Bruce is situated next door to shops and restaurants for easy access. I would stay there again as it wasn’t expensive and if you just want a place to lay your head at night why pay through the nose, just stay at the Hotel Bruce County.

The property was comfortable enough, but lacks maintenance required. The taps refused to to turn on because of worn tap washers and the vanity was badly broken and cracked even though it didn't leak it is not a good look. No dining facilities was also disappointing after a 4 hr drive

It was much more basic than photos suggested (queen room), down lights didn't work so dark even in day light, pool looked unswimmable, and had cigarette smell (previous guest fault not hotel). All of this would have been acceptable for a 3 rating but it had a rating above 4 so I was taken aback. It's a basic old school motor inn not a hotel. The staff were lovely and attended to me quickly. The place isn't terrible but my expectations were higher than warranted. I don't like leaving this sort of review but think it's necessary so others go in with more realistic expectations.

We had a pretty good stay for one night to minimise travel to home (Cowes) while doing some shopping in Melbourne. While the original room that was allocated smelt of cigarettes, the manager reallocated us next door and that room was fine. No problems with the room and the motel is right next door to a shopping centre so very convenient. Would certainly stay again.

For the price it was fine. You shouldn’t expect it to be perfect as it’s very cheap. It’s very dated and a little shabby but the sheets and towels were lovely as too were the toiletries. There was also a microwave and plates etc which is great when you want to eat in the room. Very convenient location and parking. Two minutes walk to pinewood shopping centre which has a supermarket and plenty of good Asian dine in and take away places. The name put me off… Bruce County… sounds a bit creepy and I almost didn’t stay there because of that. I think you’d get a lot more guests if you changed the name to something simple like Mount Waverley Motel!

Good location and good price, but the heating in the room is very noisy, when we stayed it was 2 deg overnight so needed to keep the heating running but was so noisy it woke us every time it started. Ended up having to turn it off at 2am just so we could get some sleep for the rest of the night, was very cold in the room by the morning.

Room was not serviced, no beds made, towels replaced or coffee cups cleaned or bins emptied. Were told the restaurants were all shut over the peak Christmas new year period only when we had booked in, no breakfast facilities, we had book several months before and were not informed of this. One small quarter plate available. When booking out I enquired as to why this was the case, no apology was offered, just the staff will be told. I think management would be better off going to appropriate courses rather than blaming their staff and also to learn more manners when dealing with customers. Apparently the Expedia site is not informed of such changes in facilities. It is pretty run down and the air conditioners work on an extremely noisy thermostat method which wakes you every fifteen minutes. Not an enjoyable stay, however, they are really well situated and with better management would prove to be a very successful business!
