This was my second time at County Lodge hotel, my first time was back in April 2021.
I noticed major upgrades in the room from five years ago. The room itself was nice and modern, with good lighting. And the view of the city is amazing, with a large swimming pool and areas to relax outdoor. I had one issue with the AC not cooling and was given a different room. The refrigerators in both rooms were not working, and were old looking. And it would be nice if there was a chain lock inside the room door for security and privacy. But the one major problem I had with the hotel is the level of customer service. I experienced the same thing five years ago and nothing has changed. When I went for breakfast, the staff ignored me. No one came to ask if I needed anything or even direct me around. I experienced the same treatment five years ago. I noticed however though that more attention was given to the Lebanese and white guests that were there. But it looks like they ignore black men who are guests at this hotel. Also the location is very remote and unless you have a private car to take you around, it is difficult to get around the city. For these reasons I will not return to this hotel again.

Upon check-in. The receptionist could not location my reservation that was booked through expedia, and this further delayed us getting to our room. I had to dig into my email and find confirmation, and do all kind of screenshots and forward to this email address. It was too much. They took what was sent and allowed me to proceed.

The room was great and spacious with incredible views overlooking the town and sea. Balcony area was cool also. No complaints about the room. Nice size TV, comfy bed, comfy pillows. The shower is not fully enclosed, so water does get all over the flow. I didnt like that, as I'm used to fully enclosed shower. The hotel provided complimentary breakfast, which we enjoyed.

Lunch and dinner were not complimentary, and the food was definitely overpriced. I had no staff issues, and enjoyed seeing the very attractive servers they have. All of them were beautiful. I didn't get to access the pool or fitness center due to personal schedule, but will definitely come back and enjoy all in full.

Checking out was a headache also. Once again it took way longer than it should've, as it held up the awaiting taxi driver, and we also missed the ferry due to this unexplained delay. Please do better with the check-in and check-out process so that they are speedy.

I will recommend printing out your confirmation and bringing it with you to show in person to speed things up. They didn't email/call me to confirm that my room was set prior to official check in.

Stranded - No Rooms Hotel under renovation

We had paid for reservation for 4 rooms for 4 people. Arrived late night/early morning 3.00 am and find out there are no rooms available because the hotel is being renovated. They directed us to go to a different hotel providing no further assitance. Why they accept reservation and payment when the rooms do not exist is any body's guess. They left us starnded. What if it was a family who has never travelled to Freetown before. Bad experience.

My first time at County Lodge hotel was good. Upon arrival I was greeted and welcomed. The room was was very spacious, and I like the outdoor area. The bathroom though needed some work. The water faucet was spraying water all over the bathroom counter and floor when you open the sink. The hot water took a while to come on. My only issue was when I went downstairs to eat the complimentary breakfast. The waiter, who was a bald headed guy did not even acknowledged me, he went about wiping down the table. The view from the hotel is amazing. And the WiFi is excellent.

The Country Lodge is my favorite hotel in Freetown. It has the best view of the ocean and town (from top of Station Hill); reliable wifi and very friendly staff. Most rooms have verandas overseeing the ocean; there's a gym; tennis court and pools. And it's also far from the hustle and bustle of the city which (for me) is a huge plus. Highly recommended.

The Country Lodge Hotel has a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean and Freetown from the top of the Hill Station. It has a gym and two swimming pools (one for kids) and the best wifi in town (I could download a 50 min movie in 10 minutes). The access road to the top of the hill is quite bumpy, but manageable even during the rainy season. The bar food menu is not great and it's the only one available during the rainy season. The main restaurant (open the rest of the year) has a much better selection of food.

Friendly, clean but restaurant could be better

Nice large room, generally clean and comfortable and staff is friendly and switched on. Food was so, so with some dishes very good and some dishes very disappointing. Wifi surprisingly good, very few power outages, very poor water pressure in the shower.

I only stayed here for 1 night, but I really enjoyed my stay.

While the location isn't especially convenient for accessing Freetown, being located in the hills gives you an amazing view over Freetown which makes it worthwhile. The view from the bar/restaurant was great! The food here was good too.

The staff were extremely friendly and I couldn't fault them.

Breakfast was good but would have been nice to have proper coffee rather than instant coffee.

I'll happily stay again next time I'm in Sierra Leone. Thanks!

The hotel is currently under construction. They had upgraded our rooms to the presidential suite which was across from the main lobby in another building. There are no elevators and it far from the restaurants. Lots of stairs and walking. I also wish my mattress was softer. The view from the restaurant was amazing. The staffs were the nicest most attentive group of people I have ever met.

We spent almost a week here and although it’s a great choice for Freetown there are a few minor downsides.
The menu is limited in the restaurant and sometimes sections of the menu are totally unavailable.
The pool is lovely but there are often afternoon or evening events on which prevent you from utilising the pool and relaxing down by the pool in the evening whilst peacefully enjoying the sunset.
There was often very loud music until 3am, which although not an issue for us if you are a light sleeper it could well be.

Quiet hotel out of town

Hotel is quiet, safe and spacious out of town so transport essential. Staff are excellent and helpful. Restaurant provides good quality food. There is a good size pool and bar area to watch sunsets

Breathtaking views of Freetown

The Country Lodge is a little oasis of peace and tranquility in Freetown, with stunning views over the city. It might not be 5* by London, Paris or New York standards but it is a really special spot and head and shoulders above its competiiton in Freetown!

Country Lodge Hotel is an older hotel in Freetown with old and humid rooms, that are in urgent need of renovation. There is some renovation ongoing but very slow. 2 very good things have to be mentioned about the hotel: The views are amazing and so is the food, but the hotel itself needs an urgent upgrade. I will come again because of location and food, hoping that rooms have been upgraded dramatically

Comparisons require context...

Reasons to stay here: Restaurant patio and Bar actually enables you to forget for a few hours where you are. Great (really really good!) wifi throughout. Highly visible hired security staff outside. This hotel provides a great retreat from the daily existence on the ground in the surrounding areas. The rooms are relatively clean if a bit sparse. The A/C is cold, the tv works and they have very fast wifi everywhere. FaceTime, Skype or streaming videos all worked very well. The well appointed fitness room might be the only one for a very long way because it gets quite full from time to time.

Reasons to consider alternates: Road in (once you depart pavement) can be pretty rough slow going. Housekeeping, daily cleaning is somewhat limited by western standards but adiquate. Towels don't always match etc. Current renovation project can make day time a bit noisey depending on what they are working on that week. Noise was never an issue for us but we were out from 8-5. Depending on what business brings you to town, location is either great (short travel time) or terrible...

Context: power goes out for a few minutes while onsite generators spool up, 2-5 times per day. There will never be a mint on your pillow, but you will have 4 pillows and clean sheets. The menu is big enough to stay here for a few weeks and not get bored, but as is typical outside E/U & N.A. what you order and what you get may not always match expectations. Breakfast never disappointed.

Good hotel compare to the alternative...

It's a good hotel ratively as there are not too many options in Freetown. They are constructing a new section so it might be better when that is complete. I reserved an executive room but they gave me an old stNdard room. Prices are high for what you get... But it's still a good place to stay compare to the rest.

Country Lodge is being refurbished at the moment so a bit of a building site but way cheaper than it used to be. Some of the rooms have some of the best internet in Sierra Leone - great for getting stuff done. The pool was out of action and the gym could do with refurbishment. Still though, overall one of the best hotels in Freetown that's not insanely expensive.

Room cleanliness was extremely poor. Checked in during the evening and room and beds were not clean. Bathroom had mold. Ask housekeeping to clean floor mat with mold and it was never resolved. Paying with credit card was also a challenge since system was unreliable.
Service is poor and slow at best.

Really clean, beds comfy. Hotel staff so helpful. Sorted out a cheap and reliable taxi to the airport. Nice to stay here at he end of a long journey and a few weeks in a very rural area of the country. Hotel manager especially brilliant, female who welcomed us on our first day and was very much present during your stay. Hotel restaurant a good price and plenty of choice. Cocktails very nice. Had room service one evening as well, quick and good quality. Thank you. Two girls staying together, 30 years old.

Freetowns premier hotel.....for now.
Some excellent staff, but some really poor members too. It's not their fault, lazy, aloof & disinterested owner/managers will not get the best from their staff.
Africa spec rooms are functional & comfortable. Restaurant food good & reasonably priced. Major refurb under way but not intrusive.

I would like to express my disappointment

It was wonderful to be back in Sierra Leone, and given your hotel's reputation, I was excited to stay here. However, I was surprised to find both the hotel and restaurant rather empty.

I was also disappointed that the breakfast menu was almost identical for the entire week, perhaps due to the low occupancy. Other hotels in the city, even with fewer options, make an effort to change the menu daily.

I was also surprised to be asked for a card charge at checkout, which is something I have not experienced at other hotels.

The reception staff did not always seem to prioritize customer service, as they were sometimes seen eating snacks or using their phones at the counter.

Additionally, the Wi-Fi was weaker than expected.

The restaurant manager was very friendly and helpful.

Overall, I was disappointed with my stay as it did not meet my expectations. I hope these issues can be addressed in the future.

The hotel is on the Hill close to Freetown city center. Internet works very well and the food is good,.
Service at the reception is excellent with Suzanne the guest relation manager. It's a good hotel for business with a reasonnable price. The pool is quite big but the pool area could be better, and the breakfast is rather basic. Number of TV networks too limited.I will probably come back for my next stay in Freetown.
