It was adequate. Staff helpful with early arrival. Room size and amenities were nice, though the carpet could use a good cleaning. Breakfast was average at best, and the floor in the area being so sticky and gross didn’t help. Music across the street very loud into the middle of the night making it impossible to sleep. Called the front desk three times to ask for assistance and maybe there was another room. No one ever answered my call. And don’t rely on a wake up call... fortunately I was awake because the wake up call never happened.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room had plenty of space and was cool. The breakfast was really good and had a lot of variety. Parking is a bit of a walk, and costs extra. We were able to walk to the Derry wall and
Laura
Pros:
The woman who helped us gather our keys after 6 hours of traveling.
Breakfast was pretty good and varied. Lots of protein and carb options plus fresh pancakes.
Location is central and Tesco’s is nearby.
Daily housekeeping. Hard to find that in most hotels these days.
Spacious rooms and excellent blackout curtains.
Cons:
Asked every time we went to the front desk if we were checking out. That got tiring. We were there for 3 nights but everyone kept thinking we were only staying for one. I don’t expect them to remember the details of all the guests but it got to the point where the key cards stopped working because they assumed we checked out.
Staff a bit hit or miss. Some were lovely, some kept us waiting for ages but didn’t apologize or preferred to chat with other staff. I’ve been to hundreds of hotels. Basic hospitality is about the customer in front of you and dealing with the situation then and there.
Room could’ve used a safe, mini fridge and/or a microwave for the space.
Carpets and curtains in room could use a good cleaning. Lots of mystery stains.
No facial tissues or shampoo in the bathroom, which was unusual.

Our problem with the room was the size. It would have been fine for a two person, one bed, room, but it was listed as a three person room with a foldout bed. It turned out that when you opened the couch into a bed the room was completely full. You could barely squeeze past the bed to get to the bathroom. For a married couple in their 70's, that is a necessity at night. The room really did not accommodate 3 comfortably. I will say, the staff was very helpful and the breakfast was good--especially the pancake machine.

We loved our stay. Very friendly service- a quiet atmosphere and lounge, and the breakfast was fantastic. Thank you so much for everything!!!

Positives:
Very friendly and helpful staff, nice layout of the bedroom, nice bar.
Negatives:
Breakfast was poor. Very overcrowded, never had any yoghurt, nice fruit or selection of herbal teas. One morning there was no bread or pastries!
There was no running water when I returned from work one day, so could not shower. This was shortly resolved after.
No parking and local car parks are expensive.
No restaurant so you have to use Kaboodle next door. The food here was poor and gave me a bad stomach. Definitely recommend venturing further. Spaghetti junction restaurant was great.
Overall a nice hotel but poor amenities, overcrowded for its breakfast size.

We only booked this hotel as a stopping point, but it was a great location. Nice restaurant/bar attached. Staff was helpful. Parking nearby. Rooms were clean.

A great stay at the Holiday Inn Express - special word for the great staff - many of whom I had occasion to meet and, to a person, they were super helpful and friendly.
Fiona
Air con not working in room and got charged double at car park.
Keith
Okay room. No onsite parking (had to park at the mall next door- 12 pounds). No gym. Okay breakfast. Very polite staff.
Beverly

Upon checkout today I explained all the issues to the person on the desk at the hotel and the response was because I booked with yourselves (Expedia) they are unable to do anything for me.
In summary this break was a surprise getaway for our 12 year old daughter. The experience was that bad she didn’t want to stay for a second night and we had to drop her off at our parents house. Upon getting to our room we were missing towels and sheets, I had to go to reception to request these. The sofa bed was so uncomfortable her back was in agony the next morning, between us all we got no sleep due to the extreme noise coming from outside and then getting woke at 06:00 each morning from road works. The sink was also blocked making it unworkable. All this was reported to the hotel staff. The breakfast was terrible, the only eggs available was scrambled and they were terrible with green inside (picture provided).
Overall one of our worst experiences ever and so disappointing that our daughter decided to leave on the second day.

A very big note of appreciation to Ailéin who was very helpful and friendly, and took the trouble of letting us know about an amazing and easy to reach historic site Grianan of Aileach — we saw it and are so grateful! Everything else about our stay was easy and straight-forward and I’m glad to recommend.
Anne

We had an amazing stay at the hotel this week! The room was spotless a the staff were so kind. We were also provided with a free breakfast which had many options for hot and cold food. The location at the hotel is great so close to the local town meaning you don’t need to take public transport! I will hopefully be returning and recommending to all!

Staff were so helpful and friendly, ordered taxis for us and made my sister who has mobility issues comfortable. We couldn’t have asked for more
Avril
Room was ok in size for one night any longer it would be very cramped. Breakfast was awful, food was very bad quality and kept running out of it, everything was deep fat fried and not great tasting. Had to wait on bread, butter, most of Breakfast items and orange juice to be refilled and this was at 9am. Staff let things run out and no rush to refill. Walking past reception staff were more bothered eating from the buffet than worrying about guests walking past them not a great look.
Diana
Loved the hotel and the location! Staff were very friendly!
Francis
I would highly recommend this establishment. The staff are impeccable especially one staff member Bernadette who is absolutely amazing. Bernadette went beyond her duties to make our stay more memorable and enjoyable. Thank you
Mal

Lori
We were super happy with ever, clean room, staff, and amenities!
Lynda
Friendly, welcoming, helpful staff on the front desk when checking in late on Friday and checking queries on Saturday night. He went above and beyond celebrating my daughter's competition success on Saturday with a wee chocolate treat too. Made her stay even more special. Lovely breakfast too.
Malachy
Excellent stay, room was very clean. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Location is perfect, would recommend!
Sherry
The room was comfortable (great bed, shower, and tea kettle) and breakfast was good. You can order vegetarian sausage, too. The smart tv doesn’t work with iPhones though.
Elizabeth

Great staff, convenient location

The staff were so lovely and really helpful. Location is excellent. Derry itself is a walkable city. Parking in the shopping centre across the street was expensive. Kaboodle being on site was so handy. Our room was a bit small for 3 adults plus luggage but the bathroom was a good size.
Ian
The room was a decent size, was very clean and modern and was perfectly placed for central Derry, the train station and the Derry Halloween festival. The breakfast is also good - the food was a good quality and there were plenty of options. The only issue was the heavily advertised ability to stream content via chromecast to the room’s TV. This wasn’t working and when I phoned reception, they said they would look into it but, ultimately, didn’t do anything about it. It wasn’t a major issue but did make us feel that our complaint / request had effectively been ignored.
Kelly
Spotless room, very cosy. Staff were attentive and helpful.

Avoid nights when the nightclub is open
Hotel was ok. Good location. But we stayed over a Saturday night and there is a club in the Kaboodle bar attached to the hotel. The music was ridiculously loud even though we were two floors up, and went on until 1am. We didn't get any sleep until it was finished. Wouldn't stay again over a weekend.
Mark
Comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff!
RICHARD
If you're looking for a nice hotel, with friendly staff, King sized beds, full breakfast, and good location in Derry. This hotel is my #1 pick.

Debited full amount prior to stay
Lovely cosy clean room. Great location for exploring Derry. Not a great sleep due to other hotel guests.
Last time we stayed we got complimentary welcome drinks voucher. Not offered on this occasion.
When i booked through hotels.com i opted to pay on arrival however hotel debited my card full amount. When i sent a query via online chat with hotels.com they advised hotel can do this at times. Only option they gave was to cancel. Why bother have option to pay now or pay at hotel if their gona take full amount regardless. Wasn't impressed

What bar? Very little work space.NO HEAT - requested help for times and was never fixed. eventually we were moved to another room. Parking validation did not work - cost us $21.

Lovely clean hotel. Very friendly amd helpful staff.

I am lodging a full complaint following our stay and contacting environmental health
There was a severe stench of raw sewerage in our room which got worse overnight.
The bar had extremely loud music blasting until well after midnight.
When my husband complained and ask to change rooms he was treated very poorly by the staff member. My order room was available and no solution offered. He said it was the one night of the week for a party and just put up with it
If we had have been there with our young children we couldn't have stayed.
The noise levels were despicable.
We would never stay here again or recommend to anyone
Complained to the duty manager this morning before check out.

Hotel is in the middle of updating. The new rooms are nice though. The breakfast was ok, staff not so friendly and area around hotel not so nice. We would choose a different hotel to stay in Londonderry next time.
Leo
Nice hotel, good convenient location to centre. Parking in nearby shopping centre not ideal and expensive.
Carol
They needed a few more actual Itish pubs in the area that didnt have to walk up a very steep hill hi

Fan in bathroom did not work
Mold in shower area and seat in shower was covered in scale and mold
Vent grate in room was covered in dust.

Night out
Well situated, lovely cook breakfast, friendly staff
Robert
Great service from Alan. Helpful with directions and suggestions
Sherry
Location was great and so were the staff but the rooms were deplorable and although we had paid for 2 nights, we left after the first night. If we could have found another hotel that first night, we would have left then.
Shirley
Checking in was great. Room fine too apart from the sink not draining properly in the bathroom. I reported this while checking out and was told it would be checked.
Breakfast was good apart from the fact the staff on duty being a bit too keen on clearing my table. I went to make some toast and left a coffee and orange juice on the table. On returning both drinks had been cleared!!

Great hotel!
Very welcoming hotel. Staff very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Hotel is in a great location for exploring Derry.
Great selection of tasty food for breakfast although staff struggled a little to keep it all replenished.

The staff were very friendly and the check in was perfect. The room was warm and either the air conditioner didn't work or I didn't know how to work it. I had a personal fan, so I did sleep well. The walls were very dusty. Overall... 8/10.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel, from the early check-in, to the staff it was great. Breakfast was incredible, so many items to choose from, hot and easy to access.
Just one same detail, the hotel saying it has parking, but it’s a garage across the street and they will help with the cost, so my suggestion is they update the site to say parking off site for a cost!

The air conditioning never came on. It was very noisy from the street and we had to open windows to get some air. Was given a handicap room and did not request. Shower soaked the floor making it a bit dangerous for us as we are in 70's. Only plug near a mirror was next to floor and the hair dryer cord was very short so had to sit on the floor to do hair. Breakfast was decent. Location was close to several good restaurants.
John
Great place if you don’t have a car. Near the ‘wall’. Good people.
Diane
Had a room on the street intersection....very noisy!
Air conditioning did not work so had to keep windows open which added to the noise. Was given a handicap room and was not asked id it was ok. Had to sit on the floor to dry hair in a mirror as that was the only plug and dryer cord was very short. Other guests that we were traveling with had requested a fan annd over an hour later had still not been delivered and the front desk did not answer the phone. When we went down clerk was just sitting there. Just was not a good experience.

Not the greatest area at night. Noisy but staff were very helpful
Gerard
Good location close to the amenities
Friendly staff and well laid out bar and breakfast area, very good breakfast menu
On the downside the room was located close to the heating/ventilation system which was very noisy, the en-suite shower cubicle is in need of grouting replaced as black spots very prevalent
Otherwise very pleased with our stay and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone visiting Derry

Great hotel
Very glad I chose to stay here. The staff were particularly helpful and friendly.
Clean and comfortable with great breakfast.
Central location is ideal but could be a bit noisy especially from traffic etc but that’s what earplugs are for!
