Abermain was a fantastic hotel. Great location to be close to the wineries in Pokolbin and Lovedale. Room was clean and it’s situated in a hotel that is 115 years old. We were worried about the shared bathroom but it was totally fine. The bar food looked great, even though we didn’t indulge after a day at the wineries. Would definitely come back to the Abermain.

Hunter Valley gem

Very pleasantly surprised by this little Hunter Valley gem. Tucked away in a back street, it was quiet and friendly. Staff were super helpful and friendly; food was good, beer garden catered to children and place was very clean and fresh. So refreshing to get good old fashioned customer service that hasn't become corporatised or automated by big business. Love also the history of the pub itself.

I'd recommend the Abermain to others looking for an affordable and friendly place to stay while in the Hunter.

Overall bedroom was clean and tidy, the tea room however had a very rancid smell. Not sure it was worth the money paid for a pub experience.

Aesthetically, it is a charming old hotel with heaps of character. Evidence of some disrepair in the bedroom, hallways & communal bathroom let it down somewhat. Otherwise, my stay was very enjoyable. The staff were helpful & friendly, the room clean & well presented, & the bed comfortable.

This pub was so beautiful that I wish it could have been a positive experience but it was an awful ordeal from start to end. Had to wait on the curb an hour after check in time to get in then only hours later had to evacuate due to a fire in the kitchen, leaving our possessions to be destroyed. We were as pleasant & reasonable as possible yet after months there's been no attempt at compensation for our losses or even a refund for the night we didn't get to have..really disappointing

Hidden gems we should know

It's very comfortable place me and my friends enjoyed to stayed at there the bed is so fluffy the room so clean the services so good. When we informed to we would arrived late they immediately tell us how to get the key. I really enjoy and want to come again for another trips

Our room was very comfortable, warm and clean.
It was fun being the only people there.
It would have been handy to have a sink in the kitchenette but logistically, that's probably not possible.
We loved the historical photos and staying somewhere that was older than our grandparents. The merchandise in the hotel was pretty awesome. We bought some momentos.
We recommend a stay at Abermain Hotel.

A traditional country town hotel with very basic comfort. The shared bathroom could do with a little renovation. The heater in the room wasn’t working. The bistro was shut the night we were staying there, but the bar offered a great selection of craft beers.

Very well maintained. Rooms were made up beautifully. Staff were very friendly. The outdoor dining area was beautiful with a play area and space for the kids to run around. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Bad choices

Staff were friendly but room was shocking. I obviously didn’t read the fine print but we had no toilet or shower in our room so had a shared one. Thankfully we were the only people staying there but I now know why. Room was a hotbox, insects getting in, ants on the carpet, felt like sleeping in a sauna. Worse nights sleep ever.

The hotel was not bad, I was just expecting for these price a bit more . At the room were only bed , bed side tables and two little armchairs. There were not any wardrobes at all. Shared bathrooms were clean but shower holder broken and lots of spider webs at windows and in the little kitchen as well. I paid $144 after discount, regular price for this room is $162 . So as I said I would expect a bit more for these money.

We had an amazing stay. The Abermain is a great place to stay. Locals are great, rooms and bathrooms are spotless. The Publican Jade is super friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommend to all.

I’m unhappy when I inspect the room.There only two beds in room. The bathroom and toilet is outside share with other peoples. No parking.So uncomfortable.

quiet location off the main road my room 8 next to kitchen was good position with balcony you have to get water for kettle from bathroom as kitchen has no sinks or taps but not a big problem there is no TV in room but comfy bed I enjoyed look and feel of old style pub
