The room was very dirty, ripped paint and broken window blinds. The staff were quite rude, rolled their eyes at questions and made several veiled threats to call the police before even checking in.

Lovely friendly staff, decent cheap room, but beware if it’s a Friday or Saturday night and there’s entertainment downstairs. I’d driven for 12 hrs and was SO needing sleep but that was impossible given the booming bass and distortion of the dj directly below. No soul could have slept through that racket. it literally vibrates through the mattress and
Pillow. It finished at 1:00 am. Like I say lovely staff and decent room for the price (though no wifi) but it’s a pretty ordinary weekend option for accom unless you wanna join in the festivities downstairs.

Typical old fashioned Pub - good staff, bar and food facilities. But accomodation not up to snuff. 3 shared rooms as 1 toilet only, x1 shower/ wash basin and x1 shower & toilet combined, old system fitted with a shower cubicals so water pooled in the lowest corners heading for the original floor drain. Tv in Lounge area never worked properly. This sort of stuff is fairly easy to fix and it spoiled it for me

Value for money.

Let me just start by saying the staff were legends. And let's be real, it's pub accommodation. But, just so you know, our room was spacious and the bed was fab. Shared bathrooms were clean.
However our room had no curtain, the window didn't lock and the light didn't turn on. Aircon was tops.
The restaurant and bar were great, quick and well priced.

Don’t book a Friday or Saturday night if you go to bed before 1:00 AM. Music will drive you crazy. Often had to ask restaurant for dishes. House keepers never took dirty dishes down to be cleaned in restaurant or brought up clean dishes. One of 2 showers was broken and never fixed

Bed sheet was dirty which appeared to be blood, staff didnt seem concerned that it indicated they had been changed prior us coming. Shared bathroom had towels all over floor as it looked like toilet was leaking.
Restaurant is great, pub is great but just above will stop me going back there.

Where to start there were so many issues. I don't mind basic accommodation and have stayed in numerous pub style hotels but none that matched this horrendous experience. Rooms advertised with free parking but there was no parking as they had a charity ride using the carpark. I mentioned my partner was an ambulant hoping they could provide some alternative but sadly there was none. Instead we had to carry our bags from streets away. There was no teabags in kitchenette or coffee mugs either. The TV in communal area did not work and our room couldn't lock from the inside so fairly sleepless night security wise. There was no top sheet on our bed which was absolutely disgusting sleeping under a duvet which never gets washed and the bottom sheet didn't even fit the mattress properly! One of the drains in the bathroom shower slopes the wrong way so lovely if you want to wade in someone else's 2nd hand residual shower water. The hand towel dispenser literally fell off the wall as my partner was on the loo. Would sleep in my car rather than stay here. Good old fashioned pub - NOT. Capping it off one of the staff mentioned the junkies who use to sleep upstairs in the room. Would recommend you do not stay here.

The load pumping music went until about 1am and no one could get to sleep.
The base of the shower wasn't tiled properly and there was an inch of water at the shower screen. Old bobby pins on the floor.
There was coffee and tea making facilities and no mugs. Dirty dishes in and around the sink area.

No A/C remote in room (warm night), couldnt open window due to loud DJ down stairs till 2am, spot light shining on window, patrons leaving loud and singing outside till 3am. Door gets stuck so told to give a kick and shoce to open it, shared shower was dripping heavy all night and could hear across hall from our room. Was not a good stay.

Low price and advertised as clean and tidy. This was a falsehood, the sheets and towels were clean but the room left much to be desired in terms of cleanliness, hygiene and decor. There accounting system leaves a lot to be desired with many significant errors.

The shared bathrooms are a disaster when you get men in there after celebrating all night leaving unwanted faeces in the shower.
Maybe when renovating they could make the shared bathrooms definitely female and male only or have the females only have a key to the female bathrooms.

Room 1 was surprisingly large and the sheets and towels were nice and clean and soft. Unfortunately the room was directly above the music which didn't finish until 1.23am. We had to pay a $50 cash key deposit. Of course we didn't have the cash so had to jump in the car and find an ATM. The next day when we went to check out, the Duty Manager hadn't show up with the keys and we had to wait half an hour for her to arrive so we could check out and get our $50 key deposit back. Probably wouldn't stay there again but it wasn't too bad for the price of the room.

Absolutely fine for the money. This is a room over a pub. Inexpensive- 100% happy for the money we paid. It is not a 5 star hotel and it does not pretend to be. Good to have a few beers downstairs. Free parking. Would recommend if you just need a bed for a night and like pubs!

Cheap and ok, but plese clean the bathrooms!!!

There is a reason this place is $46 a night - it's extremely basic - small bed, no TV etc. It's quite old with peeling paint but the sheets were clean at least.

The shared bathrooms however were disgusting and pbvisouly not cleaned each day or even close. Built up rubbish, discarded soap bars everywhere, water all over the floors, hair ties in the shower that were there our whole stay, and one toilet was broken and consistently ran our entire stay. It's very cheap, so you can't be too picky, but if you're going to do shared bathrooms, then they really need to be cleaned really regularly just as a basic thing.

It was a place to lay your head for the night - air conditioning didnt work, bedroom lamp didnt work, a blind was broken and not in place, just sitting on the windowsill. The place was loud as to be expected from Saturday night music. Staff were friendly, and the place was okay in terms of cleanliness.

Reception was in the pub/restaurant below the accommodation area.
Room was ok.
Bathroom was not separated according to gender. The second toilet room did not have a sink to wash your hands.
Expected better quality for the price and rating it has on Hotels.com.
Will most likely choose a different place if going back to Cessnock.

Good old-style country hotel

Low cost option for visiting Hunter Valley area, nice old pub-style accommodation with shared bathrooms and clean and freshly painted rooms. Beds are comfortable and bistro in hotel serves good meals. Staff friendly, beer cold and live bands there regularly. In the main street, plenty of parking and walking distance to local shops. I’ll stay there again if visiting the area

Very ordinary hotel in a small town.

A bit of a hotel of last resort I wouldn't recommend it. The bedrooms and shared bathrooms were clean and the bed was comfortable.
But it wasn't easy to check in or check out. The facility is just part of the bar and we had to get past a cranky cleaner to checkout.
There is some maintenance required upstairs in the bedrooms and bathrooms - nothing expensive to do but items that were broken in the past are clearly left broken rather than being replaced.
Loud head banging music downstairs on a Saturday night permeates upstairs until 11.30pm.
Don't stay here if you're staying on a weekend or for more than one night.

I unfortunately stayed here on a Wednesday night - Karaoke Night - the over-loud music plus very loud revellers both inside and outside the hotel didn't start to lessen till after 11.30pm and not entirely till 12.30am. They told me Saturday night is another noisy night, but I wouldn't risk staying there on a Thursday or Friday night either.

Nice hotel located in the centre of town

When we arrived, staff was very kind and helpful and made us very happy. But, when we saw our room, it was big disappointment. Room was so poorly furnished, bathroom was located outside of room, and even we were staying only one night, it was depressing. I thought that common bathrooms on one floor are only at hostels, but obviously, that is not a case.

Worst of all was the music, which was so loud and just under our room, so we couldn't sleep at all.

It was our mistake, we shouldn't assume that word hotel means a room with bathroom and at least basic basic furnishing, such as desk, or table and chair. We should ask.

That was so expensive for such a poor accommodation.
