Beautiful conversion of a historic courthouse with loads of character. Spacious, clean rooms, a very comfortable bed, and a good included breakfast. Free parking and 10-15 minute walk to the waterfront and downtown restaurants. A few areas are a little scruffy (surrounding grounds more than anything), but it didn’t take away from an enjoyable stay. For us and our dogs. Would definitely stay again.

The rooms and location are perfect.

I think I just caught them on a bad day - the room was boiling hot - and I asked the staff to check, but to no avail. If I was probably a more noisy client, I would've had my room changed, but the pictures i took showed the room temp to be 78 Deg.

Generally, I like their room size and feel.

Prior to arriving I had questions and wanted to contact the hotel. I called the number listed multiple times and it continued to ring with no answer each time. When I arrived I expressed concerns that there may not be a working phone number listed. They checked their phone system and confirmed they had several missed calls from my phone number. No apology or reasoning was given when asked why they didn’t answer the phone after multiple calls. I let them know I would be providing this review and was very unhappy with the service. Unfortunate because had the service been great I would recommend this hotel. I will likely not stay here again.

Used to live in Thunder Bay years ago and always wanted to see the inside of the courthouse. It was wonderful to see that the history has been maintained. A beautiful place. Rooms were well done. Breakfast was better than we expected.

I checked in after midnight and the front desk attendant was helpful and informative. My room was clean and spacious with a nice large bathroom. The bed was super comfortable and I had great sleep for all 4 nights of my stay. I enjoyed the free breakfast on the morning of my check out and it’s located in a lovely room overlooking the lake. Plenty of ample, free parking is a great perk in such a central location. Thanks for the pleasant stay. I will definitely stay here again when I’m back next.

High ceilings made the room feel spacious. There were no plugs by the nightstands, and the outlet on the lamp didn't work, so we struggled to keep 2 phones, 2 tablets, and 2 sets of earbuds charged all week.
The TV channel selection was very disappointing: no CNN, no US stations, no sports channels.
Nobody came to tidy our room the first day. We bumped into the cleaner in the hall and asked for clean towels, but nobody picked up the garbage until we asked the front desk on the 3rd day to please send someone.
The stairs in and out of the building are a major obstacle. There was a sign around the back of the building for someone with heavy luggage, but we couldn't find any elevator anywhere there. So we lugged heavy bags up 15 or so stairs. Not easy for seniors.
There was actual dirt, like soil from somebody's shoes, in the bottom dresser drawer, so it obviously hadn't been checked or cleaned. Disappointing.
Nice shower, but only one robe, not two.
Overall, had potential, but didn't live up to it.

Room dirty 3 lge stains on couch as well as dried crud on armrest I refused to sit on it. I asked for another room and was told they were full and could not accommodate us.. Shower bar repair incomplete and the room was in the basement. The furniture is past its prime . When I enquired about the room being in the basement, I was informed that I should have asked Expedia where the room was located, What! No where on the Expedia website did it say that this was a room in the basement. The picture shown made the room look better than it was.
The breakfast was nothing special. There were limited options for juice- only one and the potatoes tasted like soap.
I noticed that room is not listed on the web site today.
To those booking a room beware that lower level could very well mean the basement with the utility room and or laundry room right across from your room.
A disappointment.

We stayed for a two night staycation. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The pillows could use updating. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash were great. There was no body/hand lotion at the sink. Since this is a boutique hotel, it would be nice if real glasses and ceramic coffee mugs were in the room and not paper/plastic. The same goes for the breakfast room. Paper plates and wooden utensils cheapen the experience. The breakfast selection was pretty good. They had grocery store croissants. There are many local bakeries that I’m sure would love to provide their product for visitors to enjoy. It would also help promote the local businesses. The his hotel is a heritage building, so I think it should be a little fancier. Word of mouth is important, when it comes to tourism.

This hotel undeniably has a lot of charm and character, which makes a stay in Thunder Bay even more memorable. The rooms are spacious, and the decor creates a warm, relaxing and very special atmosphere throughout the property.
The only downside of our stay was the last-minute change of room type, made unilaterally by the hotel despite our confirmed booking. I would recommend calling a few days in advance to confirm your reservation details and avoid any unpleasant surprises.

This is a cute boutique hotel. My spouse and myself used to work for the US Court System, so we just had to stay here. That being said, it is very difficult and cumbersome to get your luggage into the hotel - there is no ramp or elevator into the building. There are only stairs into the property - definitely not for special needs people. There are also basically no amenities, there is a gym (which we did not use) and a drink vending machine, that is it besides breakfast. I can understand this is a historic building, but you could have a small bar or at the very least a concession area to buy drinks/snacks.
Parking is convenient and free, just need to get your parking pass.
We stayed before summer, so there were not very many restaurants/bars in the area open. I expected more of a variety being so close to Lake Superior. I would recommend this hotel for one or two night stay at most.

Beautiful restoration of old courthouse to a boutique hotel. Couple of issues. TV wasn't working, cables unplugged, and toilet seat wasn't properly attached. Shear drapes in the room were slightly shredded. Took staff overnight to fix TV but toilet seat repaired over the the morning. Breakfast was a very good for a simple buffet style.

We read that it was noisy but on the third floor no problem with that. They had a small heater in the room which was fine. Breakfast was amazing! Bacon sausage eggs fresh juice fresh yogurt.

Nice large, clean rooms. Older building so some smells and noise travel easily throughout but was still a quiet stay. Comfortable bed. Parking good, no issues with security. Breakfast was a typical poor quality experience you’d find at an economy chain hotel but happy to see there was almond milk. They could make breakfast so much better since there’s not that many rooms. Real bacon, real eggs, fresh local baking, good coffee could make all the difference. Good thing downtown is close by

Parking passes seem like overkill, but I imagine they've had issues with illegal parking with the hospital nearby. Not liking the half-pillows they provide like a lot of hotels do nowadays. To be fair, we didn't ask for more or different pillows, however with the price point that Thunder Bay hotels are at these days seems like something like a normal quality pillow should be a given. All in all these are very minor things to bring up. I want to be clear that I would 100% stay there again.

Cool concept for a hotel that kept the old courthouse aesthetic. Parking is easy, convenient and included. Close to St. Joseph’s hospital and most hip downtown restaurants. Breakfast is good and fresh and included with your room reservation. Our room was spacious, quiet, clean and bed was super comfy.

Asked about getting a crib for our room and was kind of given the run around from front desk about needing to talk to housekeeping and calling back later, so we just brought our portable one.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong for the price. Good stay, solid hotel.

What a wonderful place to stay. The hotel rooms have been converted beautifully with keeping the charm of the thick moldings and big heavy doors. Hotel was quiet and staff was friendly. The view of the Harbor and sleeping giant is on point and worth the uograde to stay on that side. Lots of parking which is a bonus for Port Arthur. Close to downtown where all the niche food and bars are. Sadly slept in and missef breakfast but will definitely get next time. Bravo

This property is very clean and have a great complimentary breakfast. Had 2 issues on this stay and advised front desk of both issues. The elevator got stuck on 2nd floor and doors wouldn’t open. Could go up to 3rd or down to 1st but would not open on 2nd. Stressed my partner when he thought we were stuck in elevator. 2nd issue- Hotel is very old but has lots of personality. However, our bathroom had a mould/mildew odour in it which could be a problem for people with allergies. All rooms come with extra portable heaters as in winter the regular form of heat may not keep up. Still, love this hotel for location, friendly staff and its uniqueness

Overall, my stay had a lot of positives. The building itself is beautiful and full of character. Check-in was quick and easy, and the staff were friendly. My room was large, spacious, and nicely renovated. Although the room was in the basement, it really didn’t feel like it because there were several large, low windows that brought in lots of natural light.

Unfortunately, there were some issues with the room. As soon as I arrived, I noticed a strong smell of sweat. When I looked at the bedding, every pillowcase and the sheets had dog hair on them. It made me question whether the sheets had been changed, or if they had been washed with with excessive dog hair and a lot of it remained stuck to the bedding. There were also visible stains on the sheets. In addition, the actual pillows themselves seemed like they needed to be washed because they had an unpleasant sweat odour. Because of this, I ended up sleeping in my clothes on top of the bed. I'm also not the type of person to call the front desk and cause a scene over issues, while I was definitely unhappy with the condition of the bedding, I tend to just make do with what I’m given and carry on.

That said, this hotel really does have a lot going for it. With more attention to housekeeping details, this place could easily be an excellent stay. The hotel should also reconsider allowing pets in their establishment. It truly feels like a hotel with a lot of potential, and just needs some fine-tuning.

This was a lovely historic building which was remodeled from the old Thunder Bay Courthouse to a modern hotel. The rooms were beautifully done with much of the old woodwork and historical charm. We slept very comfortably on quality mattresses and bedding. The WiFi was fast, but the TV was difficult to maneuver through.

The hotel amenities were sparse with a very small basement fitness room and a very basic breakfast which I would rate as fair in quality.

The parking lot and sidewalk into the building was not maintained and it was very treacherous to get in an out of the building with icy and frozen slush built up for the 4 days we were there. There was no outdoor maintenance staff in site to plow, shovel or spread salt or sand anywhere. This was a surprise for such a nice, rather pricey hotel.

The staff was very accommodating and did all they could to give us a comfortable stay. I would stay there again, most likely in the spring thru fall seasons.

Room was 58 F on arrival, thermostat was off, a small electric heater was running . Turned on the thermostat with no change noted, left for 2 hours had gone up to 59 F. Called the desk and the reception clerk came up and said there was nothing he could do because the hotel was full. Maybe change rooms tomorrow.
The tiny heater warmed the room up by 1 degree every hour or 2 and we managed to sleep.
No one ever returned or tried to fix the problem, we ran the electric heater continuously till we left after the second night. On checkout a different clerk was not surprised when i told her we had no central heat and voiced an apology.

No attempt was made to fix the problem or compensate us for the problem, and no one seemed concerned about the fire risk of running a space heater in our room for 2 days nonstop.

When we checked online after the desk clerk said the hotel was full, we found that the hotel was still taking reservations.

While staying there we saw no attempt to shovel the parking areas or walkways and we noticed that the fire exits were piled with snow. If the space heater had caused a fire we might not have been able to exit.

I was very excited to try this hotel. The old courthouse is beautiful and the room is very clean and comfortable. However, it is impossible to rank this hotel highly due to the absolutelyshocking amount of noise experienced when trying to sleep. I know it’s not uncommon to hear noise through the wall at a hotel, but this is the worst experience I have ever had with this. The noise flows freely through the walls, the ceiling, outside the door of the room. You could hear the details of every movement, every footstep of the neighbors, even a toilet flush. I had earplugs but that did nothing to help. It was so disruptive. We hardly got any sleep the first night we were there. The second night was a little better because I think there weren’t as many guests, but we could still hear all the details of the room next door.

This hotel desperately needs to attend to the sound issue. It’s very nice, but this is not a place I could ever stay again and I can’t recommend to others because it is so disruptive.

We didn’t have a proper shower head for taking showers. Daily check into the hotel is at 3:00 pm but when we got to the hotel after 3 pm we were told the room wasn’t ready. They eventually told us it was ready. Our room wasn’t cleaned after the first night and we also ended up calling for bath towels late at night. We felt we weren’t getting to what we paid for to stay in the hotel.
