When I arrived, I was quite worried about the choice I made as the property looked quite run down from the outside as well as the main lobby. The lady I met with at the front desk was extremely helpful and provided an early check in on an upper floor. When I got to my room I was very pleased by the renovated space and amenities. The room was very comfortable and the view of the Sleeping Giant was great.

I would say the lobby was very tired an underwhelming and the gym was quite beat up. Given the number of newer hotels in the area, it will be important to invest in the hotel to restore it.

We had a room overlooking Lake Superior. Beautiful view of the harbour.
Trendy Resto Bar is within walking distance and has live music.
Friendly serving staff served us free breakfast.
Self Parking is adjacent to hotel and monitored by security staff.
Our room had an awkward bathroom layout. Paint was peeling off the bathtub.

We booked the Executive Queen Suite. Room was very clean. Loved having the bedroom separate from the living room. Air conditioner units in both rooms! You can tell the hotel is actively upgrading their rooms/bathrooms which is great. We also enjoyed have a Lake view! Breakfast in the restaurant was awesome! Staff were great - welcoming, friendly and helpful. Would stay again!

The hotel is accessible, parking lot is adequate. Staff is nice. Security is tight; a security guard was on duty in the lobby and you need a room key to enter the building after dark, and even to use the elevator. The hotel is run down from what evidently used to be a magnificent building. Old carpets, old windows, old washroom, old wooden doors; but the look is charming if you appreciate old buildings. There is a restaurant on site and they have vouchers for guests. The room was dirty and the washroom was disgusting. There was a quarter-sized spread of feces on the toilet seat. We couldn't change rooms as the hotel was full, so we cleaned and squatted over the seat. The washroom had a big window with no window coverings. We were on the street side and there is a big office building across the street. So we had to use the washroom and shower with the door open to hide the toilet and shower area. I was there for a medical appointment with my elderly dad, so you can imagine how awkward it was to shower with the door open. I had tried booking another hotel beforehand but everything was full or too expensive and a travel grant only covers $200 for accommodations and this room cost us $232 (cheapest for downtown). The A/C unit wasn't plugged in and the outlets were too far to reach. The train tracks are very close but the low rumbling of the train was soothing. One bed was soft, the other very firm. I took the firm bed and surprisingly slept very well. Will not stay here again.

I recently stayed at the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel & Suites and had an excellent experience from start to finish.

The first thing that stands out is the location. Situated directly on Thunder Bay's waterfront, the hotel offers beautiful views of Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant. Waking up each morning to that scenery was a real treat and made the stay feel special.

The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. Every interaction I had, whether at the front desk or with housekeeping, was pleasant and professional. It's clear that customer service is important here.

My room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained throughout my stay. Housekeeping provided fresh towels daily and kept everything spotless. After a long day of exploring the city, it was always nice to return to a clean and comfortable room.

Breakfast was included with the stay and, while not extravagant, it was more than adequate and represented excellent value. There was enough variety to start the day off right without having to leave the property looking for food.

Another advantage of this location is the number of nearby dining options. There are plenty of restaurants within easy reach, ranging from quick casual meals to excellent fine dining establishments. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a memorable dinner overlooking the waterfront, you'll find plenty of choices nearby.

Old hotel. Overpriced. The bathtub was chipped and stained terribly. The bather counter was falling apart. It gad 24 hour security for the parking lot, thank goodness. Really sketchy. For the cost I expected much much better. We slept got up early and left without showering. At least the air conditioning was good

The room we stayed in was old and run down. The doors to all the rooms slam so hard they can be heard all night.
No fault of the hotel but there is a night club across the street that was so loud the music on till 3 am with people yelling and car racing up the street…. Was a sleepless night so we actually checked out at 4am and when we went to our car a couple druggies were at the back door all strung out.

The bed was comfortable. The property and our room specifically needs updating, repairs and maintenance. Best part was that the hotel was very close to Hoito, the Finnish pancake place inside the Goods&Co market, which is the nicest part of downtown Thunder Bay.

The property is dated but you can still feel the echoes of the 1911 Grand Dame she used to be. Excellent staff; Fresh breakfast and terrific pool - clesn, deep and made for swimming.

Very old, dirty. I would never stay there again! My two kids and I had no choice to stay there or else I would have changed hotels. We didn’t feel safe at all, needles all over the building. Drunks in the parking lot, we even found random drunks in the hallway downstairs by the pool. The smell of ammonia and mold literally made me sick. There was no heat in the room, no light bulbs in the lamps, the tv didn’t work, it was just horrible. The building needs an upgrade. The pool needs a cleaning and is unsafe for children. I wish I didn’t spend $180 a night to stay there with my two little kids for 3 nights. Breakfast was about the only thing that was good and that’s because we got a ticket to go to the detached restaurant. Never again!

Everything was good except for the housekeeping. We had to ask to get our room cleaned and get new towels. We stayed 4 nights, it was unclear if they would have looked after our room if we hadn't asked. Food was good in the restaurant and staff were very polite and helpful. Tea and coffee prices were a little high.

Terrible experience—save yourself the trouble & book somewhere else.

We chose this hotel specifically to use the pool & hot tub after a long drive. Upon arrival, we checked in & asked about the hrs, only to be told that neither was working. This was extremely disappointing, especially since it was the sole reason for our stay. There were no signs posted about this, & no compensation or alternative was offered.

We then asked if we could cancel without penalty, given the situation. We were told we would receive a full refund. However, when we requested written confirmation of the cancellation, staff refused to provide it. When we asked to speak with a manager, the situation escalated unnecessarily. A security guard became hostile & interfered while we were speaking with the lady. They also spoke to each other in another language during the interaction, which felt unprofessional & inappropriate given the situation.

Having written confirmation of the refund was important to us in case there were issues with the credit card reimbursement. At that point, the front desk lady admitted that the earlier info was incorrect & that we would not, in fact, be receiving a refund.

When the manager finally arrived, the interaction did not improve. He was confrontational, dismissive, & unhelpful. Ultimately, no refund was issued, & no confirmation was provided.

Overall, a very frustrating & disappointing experience, made worse by poor communication & unprofessional behavior.

Completely misrepresents the rooms. The photos that you think you are booking is NOT what you get. We booked the jacuzzi suite. When we got to the room it was a very old room - no jacuzzi. When we asked about it they said 'all our jacuzzi rooms are under reno so we put you in a different room'. I told them that we booked that specifically for the jacuzzi and that they shouldn't have offered it if they didn't have it. We asked for a downgrade in a room for less, and they said they would downgrade us - but no refund. It was stay or leave. Nothing given as a refund, no comp for restaurant, no sorry. If you look at the photos, they definitely have renovated suites but we were put in a super disgusting suite. If we weren't short on time and needing to work we would have moved hotels but it wasn't possible. There was a mouse running along the floorboard, there was stains all over the couch and bed, tons of dust on the fan, broken dresser, disgusting stuff on the floor. Do NOT go there.

This is a very old property, think1960's, but well maintained. The room and bed was comfortable and clean. The television worked well. Due to my arrival time I wasn't able to park in an area close to the door and had to maneuver stairs, in a snowstorm, to get my luggage to the hotel. I left my luggage in the vehicle I went into the hotel to register and request help. The security guard came out to my car with no hesitation and brought my suitcase right into the hotel. The person on duty when I checked out the next morning was also very pleasant. The location isn't in close proximity to the airport, it was about 15 minutes away.

As a single guy there for work, I am OK with the hotel. If you were to bring your family to Thunder Bay, I would look elsewhere.
The entire 3rd floor heavily smelled of marijuana 24/7. I am pretty sure there are people living at the hotel based on all the garbage left in the hallways and the smell, and the screaming babies. The hotel staff is friendly and thankfully the entrance doors are locked at all times. The lobby is beautiful. Great location. Typically, there were homeless people hanging around the doors.

The hotel was being renovated when we were there. It is a tired beauty--so hopefully the renos will restore some glory! The room was tidy. The beds were comfortable--but we really would appreciate having a selection of pillows. The staff was helpful and lovely. The location was fantatic for our forays into downtown and the restaurants in the area. We didnt use the pool this trip. We will go back for the package that includes breakfast. It was by far the best of any hotel we have stayed at (and that is a lot).

Room was clean and staff were friendly but the rooms and bathroom in particular are very outdated. The tub is literally yellow ceramic and the carpet is a pattern from the 70s. Pool was nice and no one at all was in there except my husband and I. I was pretty disappointed the hot tub was out of service though and from other reviews it seems like that is frequently the case. Overall a decent cheap place to stay but it definitely isn’t a fancy option.

Staff was very friendly, but area is not great, OPP was there twice in our first hour, the elevator smelt like BO or Alcohol every time and the stairs was constantly occupied by questionable people not going anywhere. Stains on the box springs and holes in the doorknob areas. Wouldn’t recommend, spend the extra money for the peace of mind and cleaner amenities.

The room, and the hotel were clean and comfortable. The history of the hotel was very interesting and we really enjoyed reading about it. It was a hotel with character and we’ll be sure to book there again. We also had a couple of great meals in the hotel’s restaurant. The front desk staff, security and restaurant staff were all super friendly and helpful.

The room we stayed in was quite grimy feeling. The carpets were gross, the shower/tub was something I did not want to step into, and there was a stain on my bedsheets. I did request a pet friendly room, but definitely did not feel worth the money I paid to stay here.

Was in need of face lift at the least. Bathroom door didn't close.
Said they had a pool and thats why i booked there but the pool was undergoing renovations. The renovations didn't just start so they should have updated the pool status to no pool. Was no offer of compensation for not having a pool the kids were very upset. Rushed to get there early for the pool.
