Bad nights sleep

The welcome was fine, and the room initially looked ok, but the emergency light was so bright that I could read a book with all the lights turned off, and someone had propped open the window with a wooden block, outside the window was an industrial fan. This made sleeping very difficult. Then when I went down for breakfast there was no one available, once I had been seated there was a 20 minute wait. At no point did anyone ask me how the room was or how my stay was.

It seems like this would have been a great place to stay a few years ago, but now it is a bit tired and not very well run.

It's alright

It was alright, I was a little disappointed that our bags were left in the open reception area, when they could maybe have been taken to the room, we had advised the hotel that we were at a wedding and that we wouldn't be able to check in until late. The bar was shut, which was also disappointing, but fine. The fire alarm went off at 6am and no one apologised for that which wasn't great. The rooms are nice but probably need refreshing. It was just okay, I think I was personally disappointed given the price.

Lovely looking room but the bathroom was dirty on arrival with clumps of hair and dirt. Lots of mold around the bottom of the shower as well which has been left for a long time.

The room needed a good hoover as well and could do with a more modern TV as well as a small mini fridge. Room 7 also suffered badly from noise pollution, room directly above seemed to produce so much noise and we were also woken quite early by the beer delivery which was right outside the window. That combined with the slamming of doors outside the room really didn’t provide us with the best sleep possible.

Room itself is stunning, breakfast included was lovely and the staff were ever so polite.

Overall I don’t think I’d stay here again unless some improvements were made.

I did let the staff know that our bath room had no shower gel, black long hairs on floor, only one bath towel, and the sanitary bin in bath room needed emptying!!!! Dirty cup, no coat hangers. But everything else was good x

Why do hotel designers think it is OK to have an ensuite bathroom with no door? A curtain is not an adequate replacement for a door. This was a big issue for us.

Also the only seating in our room was 1 dining chair and 1 stool when there was room for something more comfortable. I don't want to have to sit on the bed, particularly at the price this hotel came in at.

This is very much a brasserie/bar more so than a hotel. Our room was right above the bar with noise until late and the pillows were very thin. The radiator didn't work in our room and the big old-fashioned windows which would add character and charm just added to the chill. However the thick curtains did well to block out cold and light. Some nice touches (e.g. the robes, presentation of the room) and decent food, but falling short on a few more essential aspects.

Lovely hotel. We have stayed a few times. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice.
My only complaint is that our room wasn’t serviced on the Saturday, and although I was able to get tea bags etc from the bar, our cups were obviously still dirty from the morning cuppa when we returned in the evening.
This slightly took the edge off the stay, but on the whole, I’ve the place.

Room lovely and big.

Breakfast disappointing limited, no fruit options, porridge or granola options, some boxed cereals but very limited. Cooked breakfast and coffee lovely.

Fairly good, bit on the pricy side.

unclear where reception was no bannisters on stairs safety hazard. Sash windows rattled all night need a proper blnd in bathroom net not sufficient on high street. poor breakfast ony two cereals offered and croissants looked stale. nobody aound to speak to no checkout procedure.

Room not as described. No bath, no coffee machine. Only 3 hangers in wardrobe. Dark and dingy but bright as day when you turn the lights off all lurid green glow. Aerial damaged and falling out of TV. Manageress rude and unhelpful as she had never had any issues before! Room not serviced you have to ask but they don't tell you when you book in. Shower soaks whole room inc toilet and paper. No heating until third night. Aircon only works on cold. Cannot understand why always fully booked

The photographs were misleading upon checking in very messy cardboard boxes left around a half drank bottle of pop, tables with food left, floors dirty, tables not wiped down very grubby. Bed extremely uncomfortable had to lie on pillows to stop mattress digging into hips, on the booking informed it was a special birthday but no mention of it at breakfast asked for bacon and sausage to be well done it came pink and undercooked when pointed this out bacon came back well done but sausage still pink and undercooked.
The images made it look like a big house in its own grounds it was next to a main road.
A table in the dining room had a cotton napkin under one leg to stop it wobbling. Such a shame

Mixed review, the staff were wonderful and the food was delicious, however the room was unacceptable. It was dirty, there was hair in the shower from the previous guest, coffee cups were dirty with coffee rings inside, I had to clean the mug myself. It was really basic and unclean, not the boutique experience that I was sold on the website.

We stayed at the hotel as we were having tasting at South Farm wedding venue. The restaurant was packed. We had a spacious room with a luxurious shower room. Breakfast next day was delicious with an offer of full English or the more exotic. My husband went for the sweet potato and chorizo hash with poached eggs whilst I went for the smashed avocado with chilli and poached eggs on sourdough.

A one night stay the local town was full of places to eat... We chose to stay at the Banyers for dinner... We were not dissapointed. The food was excellent the staff were attentive without being overbearing.. However a wait of half an hour to take dessert order was just too much so we didn't have one.
That was the only complaint.. That and the noisy chairs scraping on to stone floor making the restaurant a noisy place.

The hotel room was above the kitchen of the hotel and customer toilets. On top of the noise coming from both of those areas the extractor fan for the kitchen was right outside my window. The manager said it would be off by 22.00 but it was on till midnight and when I called reception there was no answer.

In the morning I went to make coffee to find there were no coffee sachets or pods for the machine provided. I tried to call for room service and again there was no answer so I had to go to the bar and order it to be bought to the room. It arrived at 25 minutes later and was cold.

I explained what had happened to the manager in the morning and was met with a dismissive and surly attitude. I even showed him the recording I had taken of the fan still being on at midnight and he shrugged his shoulders at me.

It’s a real shame as the room itself was actually incredibly well decorated and very interesting compared to a lot of places I have stayed.

That being said I wouldn’t stay here nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to get a decent sleep or any level of customer service.

Brilliant Banyers

This is a brilliant place to stay. It's in a great location from which to explore Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and the surroundings, but whatever you're doing it's a lovely, warm, welcoming hotel. Rudi and the staff really take an interest in seeing that you're looked after, and this shows in the food, the service, and the fact that it seems the most popular venue in the town.

Good, but could be better

We did have a good stay. When arriving, it wasnt initally clear where to check in. We waited by the bar and someone helped and checked us in. We had a couple of drinks before going up to our room, the cocktails were very nice. The table we sat at hadn't been wiped though and there some stains on the sofa. The bloke behind the bar was really helpful and brought our drinks over. The room was clean, bed was comfy and the bathroom was spacious. There was no menus in the room which could have been helpful. No room service which was advertised on hotels.com. Breakfast food was good, though the restaurant could have used a good sweep, table was sticky in places and the stairs to the bedroom needed a good hoover too. Would have just tidied the place up a little. Staff all helpful though and quick service. I feel this place needs a little bit if love and attention to detail. The bedroom was clean and service was always good which is the main thing, cant fault that.

Came down for a spitfire day at Duxford, perfect distance to the airfield, beautiful food, felt very Covid safe. Only downside was our bedroom was right on the road and a little noisy, but overall fabulous - loved the outdoor pods came back and had evening meal with family in one, and extremely good vegetarian and vegan menu. Lovely

Pub with rooms.

Excellent place, comfortable rooms and good service. Probably a bit expensive for the town and it is more of a pub with rooms rather than a hotel.
Rooms were a bit too warm and struggled to open a window, but on the whole very good.

A pub with rooms, not a hotel

Check in was a little table at the side of a bar with everyone drinking, really not nice. I had booked a table at the restaurant alongside the stay and asked if they could help us celebrate my partners birthday, a candle in a piece of cake or something, but no, no acknowledgement or interest at all, just take your money. This is not a hotel, but a pub with rooms, the pictures are very deceptive. Very disappointed really.

Lovely overnight stay

Absolutely fabulous. Sophie was great and made us feel very welcome. Our room was upgraded free of charge and was fantastic. Lovely large room with a huge bathroom and free standing bath that could fit 4 people into.
Had drinks in the bar beside open fire. Very friendly pleasant place. Breakfast the next morning was nice and there was no rush to check out early
Was a lovely night wish I could of stayed longer.

I have stayed many times & always had a spacious room befitting the price however on this occasion I was in a Very small room which is in need of decorating & there are very noisy vents outside the window. Having said that, the bed was very comfortable & the bed linen of a good quality. I feel the small room should not be the same rate as the others. Too expensive.

Lovely reception from the staff and an upgrade is always very well appreciated. Had a drink in the lovely bar area before going out to dinner. I would decimate est in the restaurant next time after looking at the menu. Breakfast was also lovely with a great choice of continental or cooked choices. The room was by far the most well equipped room I have ever stayed in, even included GHD tongs, iron and board plus tea/ coffee machine and cookies! Staff were fabulously friendly too.

Great little place in a cute village

We had been to Royston Cave and decided to look for a room in town. Banyar's House was delightful. Very friendly staff, comfortable bed and delicious cooked breakfast. My wife and I are vegan and didn't expect to eat much, but they had a great vegan breakfast option in addition to the standard fare. Highly recommended!

Great place to stay. Superb breakfast, super friendly and helpful staff. We were in the room above the bar which was a bit noisy (on a friday night). The sofa bed was alright. My 2 kids kept rolling into the middle which was a bit of a pain in the night as they kept waking up. Perhaps better for one adult or one child? Good value and ultimately a really good stay. Would recommend,
