The property is run virtually staffless. The is no reception, requests for replenishing towels, toilet roll and toiletries by WhatsApp were ignored. They changed key codes for the bedroom without notification which meant making phone calls just to enter the room. Would not recommend to anyone. It seems more like a student hostel than a hotel. Requests for parking instructions were also ignored meaning we parked in the station carpark at considerable expense.

The room definitely needed a clean, the walls were dirty, the floor was greasy, the shower hadn’t been cleaned. The sheets also did not fit properly, I asked for a replacement but they didn’t have one that for. I did not receive a check in code, I had to reach out and ask for it.

The room was kinda small, bed was comfortable and clean, window view was awful in our room, bathroom had functional facilities but no lock and had noticeable water damage around wooden doorways and trimming. Overall, an average experience. Perfect for easy access to Cambridge and low to average hotel expectations.

I made a mistake when booking and didn’t change dates so it booked for the next day and then I couldn’t move or cancel because of cancellation policy. However it was a mistake and I've tried to correct right away calling the Hotel immediately and many times after and nobody ever answered. Tried to send messages in hotel website and nobody ever replied. Tried to send message via hotels.com and it wasn’t even possible - error message. Hotels.com customer service tried to reach the hotel and couldn’t. This never happened to me before with other hotels and I am really disappointed.

The previous negative reviews are all plausible. I booked at the last minute so curious to see how bad it was. I received the door codes message ok although I never received the pre booking email mentioned by others. The room seemed ok and I had a ground floor room at the front with big bay window. But no power. But shower was hot. I knew I was going to be there for 10 hours tops so I lived with it. As expect, any calls for assistance remain unanswered. Yet yo see if I will be slugged a spurious 50 pound extra charge.

Room 10 to avoid

Pros first: The room was clean and had an amazing number of power outlets and lights. The folding desk was nice too. Shower worked well.

Cons: The room feels unfinished, or at the minimum poorly designed.
The biggest issue is that the bathroom contains a very loud extractor fan which can still clearly be heard when the door is closed. There is no way to turn off this fan and it is on 24 hours a day. Even worse, the fan is not beefy enough to do much in the way of ventilating the shower cubby/ room so the room quickly becomes damp. Sucks all around!

Other issues:
* pillows are garbage
* no mirror above washbasin, instead it is near the door below a shelf?
* The \"automated\" checkin system did not work at all and so had to do this process with a staff member who was helpful but talked in a barely audiable mumble.

small but modern rooms in a new place, very close to the station. Downsides were that checkin app doesnt really work with hotels.com or expedia so I couldnt get in touch with them until I arrived. And the wifi signal is terrible, needs more bandwidth. But nice people, once you finally get a hold of them.

Not the greatest rooms

Pictures were deceiving we were put into a renovation property so a lot of noise of works. Also no kettle tea or soft furnishing.

Perfect for what we done

Me and my partner stayed in this hotel for 1 night as it was a quick base for going out that night. The room was very spacious and clean the only let down i would say is you'll never get a lay in as the walls are very thin and you can hear every footstep and the shower was very slow and took a long time to heat up. other than that it was okay

Property was nothing like the images shown. Extremely dirty and sticky floors and dirty carpet. Bathroom soap dispenser did not work. Was not replaced even though I informed the reception. Had to buy my own soap to use. Left my charger in the room, but hotel tells me that I didn't. This was my fault. I can't blame them for my leaving it there, but I'm surprised they say they didn't find it. I can only assume that another guest took it before I complained the next day. They did find another adapter in the room and offered to post it to me.

wouldn't describe as a hotel

would question this being called a hotel.
It's more like a b&b from 20 years ago.
The carpets are worn on the stairs and in my opinion dangerous.
My room was dirty,had a broken bed,and even the remote was broken.
It was cold with no wardrobe!
Had issues with the door,the code wouldn't work.
The staff member on duty was some help,but with so many issues i wouldn't recommend staying there.
My room even though being a single was the size of a childs room.
For the same amount of money two two days before i had stayed in a boutique hotel in nottingham.
Fenners does not provide value for money,and needs a major refurb.

Excellent location, but unfortunately, Shower unusable as it was filthy, even after I tried to clean it. Little things that are easily fixed ... weren’t! Toilet roll holder falling off wall so toilet roll kept falling on the floor. Curtains falling off window, light bulbs blown. Nowhere to set case so had to leave it on the floor. No where to set soapbag/ toiletries in bathroom, so again had to set them on the floor. As I said little things that could easily be fixed to make the stay so much better...... but room 6 really needs a new shower !!

Convenient and quiet

A small but comfortable and quiet room, ideally located near the rail station, for a good price. They have a \"hands-off\" sort of service, where you're sent a code to get access and don't have to check-in or interact with anyone, which is actually very useful. I had to stay overnight in Cambridge for business and was very happy with this choice. I'll be using it again.

Great location in Cambridge. A 3 minute walk from the train station and about 25 minutes (walking) to King College and the heart of downtown Cambridge. Comfortable bed, bedding, and pillows. Electric kettle with tea and coffee for the morning. Small bathroom but wasn't an issue for a single person. I was in Room 1 which is closest to the street and front door so there was traffic noise and noise from the front door slamming closed. TIP: If you're coming to Cambridge for a short time, don't rent a car.

Was not the greatest stay but considering the price and area it wasn’t too bad.

The flooring in the building means that movement is very loud throughout the hotel, every persons footstep can be heard and all the doors slam shut.

Apart from the noise and the pretty rubbish shower, the bed was reasonably comfortable and the rooms quite dark when the curtains are drawn.

Would not stay here longer than a night.

I would not stay here again. It’s definitely worth paying a little bit more to stay somewhere else if you can or just, like I’m going to do, commute. Id rather commute in three hours to get to my job each way every day then stay here again. The one positive of this place is that there is parking that you can pay for. All else is negative. It’s in serious need of an update, the room I stayed in had mould and smelt damp. The shower did not maintain temperature or pressure. The room was so tiny that once I put my luggage down there was no space to walk or get out of the door. The bathroom was not clean and the bed pillows did not smell pleasant. There is zero soundproofing and being in an old Victorian property, you hear everything. I was woken up all through the night by people shouting, clambering up stairs etc. The fire alarm went off on the third night of my stay at 3am which apparently happens because of the steam from the showers so we all had to wait outside and actually ring for service for someone to come and turn it off. Another guest told me whilst waiting outside that this happens every time he stays here. Very poor. Worst place I have ever stayed in. But cheap.

I was woken up very early by the sounds of other people’s doors slamming, and by someone who tried to enter my room twice, I’m assuming they didn’t know which room to go to. But there is no one on site to complain to.

Disappointed you had additional fee for car parking. Hotel is what it is rated 2☆. It was dark corridor into our room. Bed was clean although wood.floor was lifting in places and skirtingboards were filthy. Bathroom had a strange smell and again radiator looked like it had been found in a skip it was rusty & dirty. Shower cubicle was ok but shower head kept falling down so had to juggle with getting washed. Bonus we had a big new clean wardrobe. Wallpaper was peeling off and beside tables didnt fit the size of the room. Certainly won't stay again. As for the reception desk and lovely photos.....I don't think it actually existed. My daughter also had her room and hers was worse than mine, infact the shower door was just stood up against the wall and her door into her room didnt even shut properly.

It was a pathetic attic ,not a room to which we were hailed to on arrival, the roofs were so low that my friend bumped her head in the stairs. It was not the room shown on website . I called on the number provided and had to talk about the suffocating room we were in. The reception guy called us downstairs and showed us another room . It seems like he took a chance to accommodate us in that pigeonhole and when I resisted and threatened to call hotels.com he adjusted us to the bigger one. Although afterwards he provided with iron stand but never showed up for assistance, our stay was ok with the location, it the hotel definitely needs maintenance and repairs.

A pokey attic room in a dreary hotel. The bed was as long as the room. I couldn't open the bathroom door fully because it jammed against the bed. No cupboard space whatsoever. No coat hangers unless you count two knobs which I could pull out of the wall. TV reception poor to non-existent. Pokey bathroom. No plug in plughole. Shower adequate at best. No bathmat. No lift, although that didn't bother me. The coffee, telephone, hair-dryer and what looked like a fan-cooler didn't make up for the inadequacies of the room. I could have lived out of a suitcase if I'd had enough room to open the suitcase.

I wasn't expecting much as I'd only booked the rooms for convenience, but I wouldn't rate it highly even though it is close to the station. OK, the rooms are small which didn't really matter. My main gripe was that I was travelling with my mother who is 83. Although she's perfectly able to look after herself, she's partially sighted. This meant that there was no way she could enter the building or her room unaided as you need to use a code rather than a key to get in to both. This hadn't been made clear during the booking, even in the small print. Also, as there's no permanent reception, there's not even anyone you can call to let you in.Certainly would not book for anyone with visual impairment or other accessibility needs.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! The building is in urgent need of a complete back to bricks restoration. The bathroom was so small I had to leave the door open when I wanted to use the sink.

This is AirBnB style. No staff on site. System worked fine and room was spacious, en-suite washroom was spacious too, both with plenty of natural light. The shower was cramped and slippery, its base was faulty. The bed was a good size, on the hard side, and the linen was coarse.

The location is excellent, a short walk from the station. The room had potential, let down by a lack of imagination how use of space and better materials could have made the shower top notch instead of a challenge, and better linen could have made a more comfortable night's sleep.

We decided for a overnight trip to Cambridge over the bank holiday weekend, and booked here. Very close to the main station (5 mins walk max), and 5-10 min bus ride into town. The room did what we expected of it, a relatively low frills selection room was fine. Walls are relatively thin however, so can hear a lot from other guest. Utilise a keyless system, which worked well with no problems. They offer a luggage hold, which is just storing in a room right in front of the office, wasn't mentioned on e-mails but called and let know. Wifi wasn't the greatest in our room, but as we were only there for one night didn't really affect us.

No service/reception whatsoever so if you go not expecting that it helps. Represents good value due to the location if you get for £55/65. Had an amazing stay at Fenners! I was in Cambridge for three days and it was really nice to be so close to the train station. Getting to the heart of the city required a good 20-30 minute walk but in my opinion, very worth it. Especially as the area around the hotel is quiet and perfect if you need a little peace.

Budget hotel good for one night stay

This is definitely a budget hotel, but it is fine for a one night stay and is very good value for money for Cambridge. Access to the hotel was by typing a code on the key pad on the door (the e-mailed the code beforehand), so I did not meet any member of staff (but I could hear later a staff member helping another guest get to their room, so there are staff on duty in the evening). The room was very small (\"compact\"), but it had a desk, en-suite shower, kettle (1 tea and 1 coffee packet) and free wi-fi. There is no breakfast and no breakfast facilities; their information e-mail sent before arrival explained this (it was not obvious from the web site). The main downside was the lack of sound insulation: in the morning I could constantly hear noise from showers. Overall, it is fine for a one night stay (if leaving early) and is cheap.

I was in this hotel room for 11 hours and that was all I could have taken. The room was small (that's fine) and clean (great) but there was noise all night. Everytime someone took a step or closed a door, the whole place could hear it. I was also given the incorrect passcode to access the property. Luckily there was staff there when I arrived, but if I had been 30 minutes later, I would have been in trouble.

The location is excellent, especially convenient for my needs. On a passing inspection, several aspects of the room were either not cleaned, broken or badly finished. Two of the windows had missing latches, one of the window panes was cracked. The bathroom can best be described as shabby and poorly cleaned. Whilst I was showering, I noticed 3 hairs that were not mine. In addition, there were several areas where there were indications of poorly executed repairs, unfinished repairs, and signs of possible damp/rot on the ceiling. One of the window latches also had a very old spider web, again indicating a very poor level of cleaning being carried out. I did not see any staff, so could not mention this at the time, but I wouldn’t necessarily have a great deal of faith that this is endemic

I was in Room 2, stayed 1 night. The bed was OK. The room was absolutely tiny. The walls were paper thin and I could hear what sounded like arguments happening in the reception area, possibly from guests and staff? The bathroom extraction was noisy and rattled, the toilet flush jammed a few times (cistern would continually fill). Someone tried to access my room, mistakenly i believe, unsure if this was staff or guest.

Overally, a pretty bad experience, would likely not go again.

the system is different from most hotels as they give you a PIN number in advance to get into the building and into your room--same number. But it works. The location is good. Close to the rain station etc. the showers are small, about the size of an English telephone booth, but manageable. I was right near the front door which slams loudly. Management might want to put a sign asking people to take care in this regard.

Will not stay here again.

The single room was in the loft and very low level ceiling. The room was only 2metre by 2 metre and attached en-suite shower WC was 2 metre by 0.5 metre! Not ideal for people with large height etc. The furniture was old and chair was so grubby I hated that it was so close to me in the room. No cupboard but a couple of hangers and pegs on the wall. To get to the room itself I hit my head on the ceiling of stairwell a couple of times. Located very close to train station which is really good but this is the only good point.

Hotel looks nothing like the pictures on the website and is dirty and in poor condition. Room was freezing on arrival and room had a really bad smell
