The room was lovely, clean and welcoming. The shower pressure was quite low and we found the walls were quite thin. We went at the end of November so much less occupants and we could clearly hear conversations in the next room. The overall feel of the hotel was nice and staff were friendly. We however hated the buffet at the restaurant. It was 29 euros per person and I’ve never left a portuguese restaurant feeling so disappointed. It wasn’t even because of the price, the “main courses” we’re all bland, americanized food, it was so bad we decided not to go to the breakfast buffet.

If you’re there just for the stay, go for it. Don’t bother with the food.

The hotel was family friendly. The breakfast was wonderful. We found free street parking. Tavira is extremely walkable and we were super close to the ferry to Tavira Island. The only thing I didn't care fore was the smell of cigarettes in the common areas.

We enjoyed 5 wonderful days here, making use of the hotel facilities and exploring the local area. The outdoor pool and bar area are fantastic. The indoor pool and spa needs some improvement - while the pool itself is large with comfortable loungers around it, the jacuzzi barely functions and the steam room didn't work at all. The bedrooms are very comfortable and generously sized with balconies and a mini bar fridge. A kettle service is advertised to make tea and coffee in your room, but although we asked for it on the first day it only arrived on dsy 4 of a 5 night stay. Breakfast is average, and the evening meal is OK but lacking in atmosphere, whereas there a multiple fantastic restaurants in walking distance which I would recommend using instead.

I had contact with reception, cleaners, chefs, they all nice. parking in the basement free if you are a good negotiator otherwise 10 Euro a day, plenty food all the time. The only downside is the wall need to be soundproofed some neighbours are loud if you encounter this call the reception and complain.

Property is ok but check what you are booking. I went for a suite expecting normal extras but standard bed in a big room. My fault for not checking. Pool area is excellent but be careful, tiled area very slippery, one guy suffered a bad head injury when he slipped up. Tivira is lovely and this hotel offers an excellent position for looking around. Would i stay again? probably but I would be more careful about what i was getting. Oh, and when I checked out I complained about no instant coffee in the room... apparently you have to request it.

Staff were fantastic. BUT. Very run down, needs a big refurb. I had a junior suite and The beds were horribly uncomfortable. I don’t know why but there was some kind of plastic sheeting under my bottom sheet on the bed, and the pillows were either hard as bricks or lumpy. Worse 4 nights sleep at a hotel, so would not go back.

This hotel was perfect for our stay in Tavira. Included breakfast buffet was ample and decent variety. Pool and courtyard were a lovely place to siesta in the late afternoon. I travelled with my daughter and her 11 month old and they were very, very friendly towards the baby. Check in and out were easy. Lots of little cafes in immediate area and east walk to touristy old town.

Rooms very dated. No USB charging. Reception explained the charges were all out and explained that I would have to purchase from a shop, that was closed.

Pool table was super expensive for a guest. Towel process felt like I was treated like a criminal.

Given I was told this was one of the best places in Tavira, i was not pleasantly surprised.

Tavira is a very quiet area of the Algarve. This hotel is very convenient to the riverside and catching the quick ferry to the pretty island beaches. The hotel is between a 3.5 - 4 star, I’d say. They don’t have any staff to help w/your luggage. The ample buffet breakfast was nice!

We chose this hotel because we have stayed in another one and also visited another location to check it out. The mattresses were definitely not up to the chains standards and many ants in the bathroom. Breakfast didn't have as many choices as we had remembered from before but the hotel was full so maybe was running low on supplies. Parking is an extra fee.

We were disappointed to find that we had to pay for parking in the underground carpark and also for the safe considering it was a 4* hotel. Breakfast time was a bit of a shambles with stuff running out and wobbly tables.The quality of the towels in the bathroom were very thin and not particularly large, not the quality I’ve experienced in other 4* hotels. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

It was amazing stay. This is the best hotel in whole Algavre. Great localization, amazing breakfast, superb indoor and outdoor pools. Staff hits the highest standards. Christiano is massage-guru - you should try spa services at the hotel. Everything is perfect here from cleaning service to the reception girls. We arrived quite early having had an early morning flight from the UK. We managed to leave our luggage behind the front desk, and the staff promised to call once our room was ready, which he duly did. The hotel lobby is quite large and has a number of soft seats, and door opening out to a central courtyard where the outdoor pool is.

The room was fairly large with a small balcony overlooking the front of the hotel which caught the sun in the evening. The Bathroom was also a good size. Everything was clean, though I did find the beds a little too hard.

There are spa facilities at the hotel, but we didn't know you have to book, presumably this is to limit numbers at any one time. Not a problem once we knew. You will also need a swimcap for the pool, which we also didn't know, so had to buy one from the spa. There is an outdoor pool too, but this was too cold for me in March.

The breakfasts we found could vary dependent upon which time you arrived. There were a number of largish groups (golf etc.) who tended to eat between 07:30 and 08:30, during this time it was a bit chaotic, as staff couldn't replenish the buffet items or clear tables quickly enough. However, later in the morning things were a bit quieter and more comfortable. There is the usual hot and cold items, plus eggs to order. I was impressed with the egg lady who was doing a great job, multitasking eggs, omlettes and pancakes. The hot food too was plentiful, but I thought the selection of cold cuts was poor

We had a lovely 2 night stay in Vila Gale Tavira. Very comfortable bed, great shower and lovely breakfast.
Reception staff very helpful and everywhere very clean. Only criticism would be that room not made up on our first full day until late in afternoon when we would normally enjoy a siesta before an evening out. Also a walk in shower would be preferred these days due to trouble stepping over bath. But overall we would definitely return and recommend this hotel.

PIGEONS RULE THE ROOST!

Sadly, this hotel has been taken over by the birds. Pigeons roost, use the pool’s edge and the kids’ pool as a bird bath. Rooms on the 3rd floor have balconies which are rendered unusable with poo. It was impossible to leave anything out to dry. The hotel itself is in a good position for exploring Tavira. Many guests had trouble with key-cards. Rooms are spacious but the wardrobes use a clumsy system of hangars placed behind each other - hard to access clothes. There are 2 lifts but one with a faulty door. There is an extensive breakfast buffet. Early birds go in at 7am but if a coach party is checking out the place is over-whelmed. I found the dark Moroccan décor depressing. Left luggage is in a locked room. There is NO aircon in the corridors. There is a market about 200 steps away so you can buy fruit and cheese, a bakery for rolls and pastries. Within 15 mins walk are larger supermarkets such as Continente, Pingo Doce. Closer to hand is a small Mini Preço. I used the spa - great – though noise from random golfers returning to use the shower facilities interrupted the quiet in the treatment rooms. Sun beds are comfortable and there is an activities programme. I don’t think I could use this hotel again due to the bird situation. Whilst there are spikes on the roofs to stop the pigeons roosting, no other measures are in hand to scare them away and the maids spend an in-ordinate amount of time cleaning up after them; that is not good business practice.

ADEQUATE, BUT A FEW ISSUES

Sadly, it took many attempts to get into my room - 4 faulty key cards, then offered a different toom and another faulty card. Room comfortable. Disappointed there is a charge for the room safe, which was not on Hotels.com website. No tea or coffee making facilities. Balcony covered in pugeon poo, so beware leaving anything out to dry. Worryingly, the maid uses the same mop and water to ckean the bathroom floor, as the poo covered balcony. Extensive breakfast. Can be quiet eatly, unless a tour group is leaving, when it's manic. Pool is a decent size, but cold in Sept. Activity clases are very hit and miss re timing! Very close to R Gilao and plenty of easy walking and restaurants around. Car parking at the hotel also incurs a charge.

The staff could have been friendlier at check in and when asking for assistance. It almost appeared at times we were a bother by the tone we received. The beach/pool towel access was nice but a bit ridiculous to have to walk around the property to exchange for clean towels each day. Should be part of the daily cleaning service. The bathroom lacked standard toiletries such as body lotion and hair conditioner. I would not rate the hotel as 4 stars, more like 2-3.

Very welcoming spacious airey hotel with excellent hard working staff. Nice outdoor pool with loungers. Very good location and close to island ferry for beaches. Restaurants and bars nearby. We paid extra for a poolside view and pleased we did so, some of the other balconies overlooked a car wash and petrol station.

Some thoughts on how a good hotel could become a great one: The bed had a plastic mattress protector which was uncomfortable to sleep on. Likewise the pillows were particularly uncomfortable, seemingly made up of small foam balls. The nature of the lanscape means that there are many mosquitos. Mosquito screens on exterior doors and windows would be helpful. For the money paid, we would expect a kettle to be provided. The Eva Senses Hotel in Faro is of a similar standard and provides kettles and coffee in the room.

A great hotel in heart of Tavira

Easy and swift check in, friendly and helpful staff who got us kettle for our room, explained how to get pool towels from the spa and ordered a taxi for us leaving. Room was ideal with a view of the pool and salt flats. Lighting in the room could be brighter and a dressing table to apply makeup and fix hair would make it perfect as it’s difficult to do in a steamy bathroom after a shower, but that’s only a small niggle. Breakfast was great, lots of choices and good service from the friendly staff. As others have said, the coffee is pretty tasteless but there’s plenty juice and teas. The hotel is perfectly located to enjoy the delights of Tavira. We would definitely stay here again and use more of the facilities the next time.

The weather was gorgeous, but cool. Really nice hotel with a great location. Easy walk to anywhere in Tavira. Lots of amenities, friendly, helpful staff. The town oozes charm, and it is an easy, cheap ferry ride to the beach on Tavira Island.

It’s well located for exploring Tavira and the train station is about a 15 min walk away if you want to explore further and don’t have a car (like us).

We only had breakfast in the hotel (plenty of Restaraunts within easy walking distance) but there was a reasonable choice of cold and hot food. They ask you to book a time slot due to Covid though I did not notice any obvious policing of that.

The only real negative is that the sound proofing in the rooms seems poor - both from external and internal sources - so if you are a light sleeper or easily disturbed then that might be a factor. Otherwise it’s absolutely what you would expect at the price point.
