We stayed for 4 nights in early January and were very well treated by all the friendly staff. The room was clean and well maintained, and breakfast was decent and we could even order our eggs from the kitchen. The hot water in the shower worked well and did not have to wait for it to warm up. It is one hotel we would return to if we are back in Tavira.

One of the best hotels in Algarve! A 600 year old convent converted hotel, yet it has all amenities and convenience a modern hotel has to offer. Good variety of breakfast. Room is spacious, bright and airy. Staff are friendly and helpful! A short walk to the Main Street where visitors can find Pharmacies, restaurants and boutiques. The hotel is at foot of the Castle of Tavira, public parking is limited, but the hotel has its own gated parking area, which is a huge plus for us.

The only item I can say wasn't 100% to my satisfaction was the water pressure in the shower. I know I'm nitpicking. The breakfast was wonderful and there were so many different cheeses to try (7? 8?) and breads to choose from.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It was our first stay at a Pousada and it will definitely not be our last.
We were given an upgrade to a suite on arrival which made our stay even better. The staff are all very friendly and efficient - first class level of service.

Beautifully restored monastery. Was a delight to stay and explore the building and its surroundings.
Our room was a good size, very comfortable and had all the amenities we required.
Evening meal was very enjoyable and good value. Good choice at Breakfast.
We will definitely use other Pousada hotels in the Algarve.

As other reviewers have said, the hotel is generally exceptional in all respects. In my case, however, there were two unfortunate exceptions. The first was the bed. It’s no exaggeration to describe it as the hardest I have ever experienced. Had I not pre-paid I would have left after the first night. I complained to the receptionist in the morning. She seemed unconcerned. I asked if a topper could be added and she agreed to arrange it. Nothing had happened by 4pm so I went to see her again. She pretended to be engrossed in work and didn’t even look up at me. I complained to Expedia. By 4.30 the topper was in place! The second weak point was the above receptionist, who must have attended the same course as the one on duty when I left. She too ignored me as I stood in front of her to give my key back. I had stayed there for over a week and I expected the receptionist to hope that I’d enjoyed my stay, that she hoped that I’d stay there again, and to wish me a pleasant journey. But nothing! A complete contrast to the exceptionally friendly male receptionists and restaurant workers who had greeted me every day. A word to the wise!

My room was spacious but dark although that was not an issue as I came in to unwind and didn't want bright lights. The bed was fantastic, just like mine at home, so I slept really well. I think it helped that the old style wooden window shutters closed tightly each night so there were no chinks of light even if the sun was rising.

I lazed by the pool for a few hours each day when the weather permitted and was surprised by how quiet and calm it was despite the roads surrounding us.

Breakfast was plentiful and I also had a omelettes made to order a few times. I really enjoyed the carrot or beetroot juice options instead of the usual orange or apple. The evening meal I had was a feast and it was great to see Cataplana for 1 instead of the usual 2 minimum.

I think the true test of the hotel though was on the Thursday as the weather was miserable. The hotel passed with flying colours as I chilled easily in the alcoves and courtyard, reading my books, having coffee and lunch without a care in the world - a weather enforced detox from a hectic lifestyle until mid-afternoon when the weather broke and I went for a wander through town. On that note, the courtyard, is a great space and it was normal to see breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks spill over into that area as there was ample space, tables and seating.

Was clean and staff were very nice and helpful. Setting is beautiful and as an historic building, it’s original renovation was good. Looking tired in parts and could do with a bit of a refresh but nevertheless none of that detracted from a lovely few days and I would definitely return.

Perfect if in a different room.

The building was beautiful.
Our room was in a newer building and had a peculiar smell - originally a very strong smell of disinfectant ( a public indoor pool type smell)

All other aspects of the hotel were excellent, breakfast was good. Communal areas were lovely. Perfectly situated. Helpful staff.

Convenient and peaceful place to stay

Pousada Convento is located a short walk from everything you'll want to see in the area. They have off-street parking which is fantastic, and you can walk everywhere. Their courtyard is lovely, and the pool area is beautiful (too cold to enjoy).

Distinctive and characterful hotel

A beautiful hotel in the historic centre of Tavira, and right beside the castle. It’s a 5 minute walk from the bus station. The former convent has been beautifully restored, and the rooms are very comfortable.. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. There’s a landscaped swimming pool area, and a lovely central courtyard for relaxation. It’s one of the most elegant hotels I have stayed in.

The breakfast was fantastic! The crispy ravioli was just okay. There was a door in the dining area that when closed it made a big bang which was a bit startling and annoying, but that’s all that I would complain about. Guests should note that the neighboring church bells ring starting at 8am.

Never disappoints. This is our second time at this hotel and it is truly one of our favorite places to stay. From the moment you walk in the entrance you feel well cared for in every way. Need a restaurant suggestion if not eating at their own superb restaurant on site? They have one. Need a taxi? Suggestions for things to do, places to see, they can offer up all of it. But, really, you could be happy just being inside the premises. Their pool isn't heated, but in the hot days it is a perfect temperature and the loungers poolside offer food/bar service. Their breakfast is also the reason to come. Their buffet is a gourmands delight. The staff in general are a cut above and make you want to stay longer.

Terrific in Tavira

Historic convent building made it feel very serene and did feel like living in a museum or art gallery. It’s a very beautiful place , well kept with excellent and attentive staff . Usual uk issue of toast withstanding 😀 one of the best quality Buffett breakfast included .

The hotel is well located for Both tourism and for eateries. We got superb recommendations from reception for vegetarian friendly Restuarant’s and we ate very very well.

The hotel is an experience in itself and one well worth having. Add in Tavira’s own attractions and you have a great visit.

Probably more suited for couples or friends travelling together .

Sojourn at Tavira.

This was our second visit to this Pousada. Both times we have come away feeling that we must come again. The Convent is a charming structure. We do so enjoy staying in historic buildings. Together with charming receptionists, charming breakfast and restaurant staff making our stay very memorable. We started at Valença and drove down Portugal from Pousada to Pousada heading to Tavira before leaving the country at San Antonio.

Stayed here recently for 7 nights. Front desk staff and breakfast staff friendly and helpful. Took a superior room, the room was average size with a balcony. Beds very comfortable. Powerful shower and bathrobe and slippers provided. Room very clean and also very quiet. Breakfast was the usual fare of fruits, cheese, pastries and some hot food also. I only used the restaurant once for lunch as there are many cafes in the area. The pool area was very quiet and relaxing. The hotel is in a good location , 5 minutes walk from the town centre. The hotel's gardens and cloisters are very pretty. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. Would I recommend this hotel/ absolutely.

beautiful building in a delightful area of tavira. room was a nice size and well appointed. the inner courtyard was fabulous. great staff also. would stay again. just one point - this is listed as a pet friendly hotel. we were informed at check in that we were only allowed one dog per room ( we had 2) and the dog couldn't be any bigger than 15 Kilos. none of this info had been posted on the hotels.com listing. we worked it out and they let us stay in the end after we smiled sweetly

An beautiful, but tired old building

Charming old building, but it needs sprucing up & money spent on refurbishment snd interior design.
Daniela and a guy at reception were fantastic and worked long shifts, but at other times the reception was either unstaffed or temporarily occupied by one of the waiters from the restaurant.
The rooms and facilities need some work & there’s poor insulation between rooms.
It’s really a 3 stars hotel in its current state: we found damp stains on the bathroom ceiling, old cobwebs on the balcony, no tea or coffee or kettle in the bedroom, no conditioner. The breakfast is just ok.
However the building (an old convent) and the location are great.

The history of the Quinta dos Perfumes begins in the 1950s, with the creation of a factory that distilled mallows (Malva) to produce fragrant essential oils. In the 1970s, when the factory was no longer in operation, the farm was acquired by the family of the present owners, who converted it and planted vineyards of different table wine varieties.

Around the year 2000, the second generation of the family opted to convert the 40 hectares of the existing crop into a citrus orchard, one of the traditional cultures of the Algarve. Years later, already in the third generation, the family decided to create a hotel unit that opened to the public in 2013.

This was the beginning of Quinta dos Perfumes. The Farm has an excellent location, bordered in the North by EN125 road and approximately at a 10 minutes walking distance of the villages Conceição and Cabanas de Tavira with their paradise island.

It is situated close to four golf courses (Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima, Quinta do Vale and Quinta de Benamor), and it is both near the Algarve eastern (sotavento) eco-track and one Iberian pilgrimage route of the Caminhos de Santiago (the Ways of Saint James). A great way to get to know the Quinta is to use one of its bicycles to ride around the space.

In this walk it is almost impossible not to cross with hares, rabbits, partridges and other birds that inhabit the farm. If you are lucky you can also spot the foxes and eagles that surround the sky of the farm.

The Farm has an outdoor salt water swimming-pool, secluded inside the orange grove, where you may relax in the sun and have a drink at the end of the day. At the Rooftop terrace, the landscape stretches far beyond the orange grove until you find the sea on one side and the Algarve mountain range on the other.

It is the ideal place to enjoy our bar service, read a book or just ease up. The Farm has no restaurant service, but it is possible to prepare light meals.
