We enjoyed our stay in Langkawi at the bonton resort. However there are some things that you need to consider.

Pros:
Friendly staff
Delicious food
Beautiful resort
New experience of cabins
Lots of privacy

Cons:
No access to the beach
Wayyy too many lizards for my liking
No phone to make calls
Pool had stuff in it
There was no soundproofing if you’re in the washroom on the toilet

But overall it was still a fun and unique experience. It’s a wonderful place to visit. Have a wonderful and safe trip.

Perfect getaway with individual authentic bungalows full of charm with serene views for sunset. Exquisite food at restaurant and great breakfast delivered each night for leisurely mornings. This was our second time at Bon Ton Resort. What we love (and what made us come back) is that this is not your typical resort. The villa's (or houses) are salvaged traditional Malay homes, lovingly given another lease of life. Because of this, there are only x8 on the site, making for a wonderful secluded, exclusive stay. We were fortunate to stay in Yellow Orchid, before receiving an upgrade to Laguna Villa (100 years old). As these are antique properties, some of the doorways are short, so mind your head if you are tall. There are many other things we love about Bon Ton Resort. The staff are amazing: friendly, nothing is too much bother and after a week the team felt like friends. They are also firm animal lovers (the Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary - LASSie is adjacent) and cats roam the property (there are dogs as well, but they are on leash). For music lovers, they have live music on a Sunday night which we were able to experience and was brilliant. The breakfast included is ample, we did not go hungry.

Very charming hotel with friendly staff. Lovely surrounding and not big hotel for the ones who prefer hotels with 5 to 6 rooms max. Super nice restaurant.
Cats all around perfect for kids
Maybe, rooms could have more integrated anti mosquitos nets in order to open more windows. Otherwise rooms can be a bit dark.
Also, maybe see options to have breakfast offered at the copy cat cafe and not only in the room.

Unique old houses that has been transformed as guest room. Could be more modern inside especially bathroom. Shower was terrible and room was too hot to stay in during the day. Air conditioner was not able to keep it cool.

It’s a unique experience to stay in an antique Malaysian home brought into 21st century comfort.
Staff here are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. The food in the restaurant is the best we had on the island & the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere.
This is a really special place & if you want to get away from impersonal, standard hotel environments this is the place for you.
We stayed in Black Coral & the room was beautifully furnished, stylish & comfortable.

We loved the Bon Ton. All the rooms are separate houses in the grounds. All on stilts. The staff would prepare the room for the evening by plugging in mosquito deterrents and spraying. They also left breakfast in the fridge. It’s a delightful hotel where all the staff are super nice and friendly. Wi-fi doesn’t seem to reach the bedrooms. The hotel supports the dog and cat sanctuary next door. There are quite a lot of cats around which we loved but may not be for everyone . It’s located a bit of a walk from the beach but we got Grabb taxis and it was £1.50 for a ride. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to go back.

Traditional resort for animal lovers!

This is a beautiful heritage resort made up of traditional Malay houses as the guest rooms. It is a taste of authentic living, so be prepared for creaky, rickety floors, some bugs and wildlife! The shower flows through the floor boards which makes it a different experience to normal! The four poster beds have mosquito nets but there are modern facilities like TV, fridge and kettle etc.
One thing to be aware of is that there are cats in the resort, a lot of cats, and they will come in your room. There is an animal shelter nearby, partly funded by the resort so if you have any allergies or don’t like cats then you might want to avoid here. You can occasionally hear the dogs in the shelter barking/howling.
Other than that little surprise, the resort was peaceful, authentic and the staff were brilliant. They couldn’t help enough. The food at the Bob Ton restaurant is also excellent.

Beautiful and rustic experience. Great to have cats roaming the resort as it gives the place a more \"real and live-in\" feeling. If you don't like cats, be aware. There is a nice corner selling local produce/souvenirs, part of the money will go to the nearby animal shelter. The food at the restaurant is excellent. Great service from the staff, all of them are friendly. Will definitely visit again.

My daughter and I loved staying at Temple Tree Resort. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The resort is incredibly unique; unlike your typical resort. All the buildings are beautifully restored heritage buildings that have come from different parts of Malaysia. The rooms are furnished with lovely antiques and have a very homey feel. The best part was all the cats that came to visit us (which also made it feel like a home away from home.) They were well taken care of and very sweet. There is lots to do in Langkawi, which some people don't realize. In two days, we went ziplining, explored a waterfall, went horseback riding, swam in the beach, walked around Pantai Cenang and enjoyed the restaurant at Bon Ton. I would definitely stay there again! Another tip: rent a car. It is easy to get around and inexpensive.

We stayed in the Yellow Orchid. The room is beautifully presented, the amenities are really thoughtful (bug spray and repellent, pool caddy), the breakfast in room is a really lovely touch and the outdoor bathroom takes a little getting used to, however is a unique experience. The hotel itself is a little isolated from the main beach area, however it fits perfectly with the resort’s feel. The pool is delightful and the sunset over their lagoon is what makes this experience.

Loved it! Oozes charm. So tranquil and beautiful but with an amazing cocktail list, boutique and only 10 minutes walk from lots of action, should you want it! Couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more. Food at the restaurant was delicious. A little more expensive than we had expected but the drinks were very reasonable. The staff were all very lovely, friendly and helpful. The cats are so well looked after and lol about lazily without bothering you. Oh and the pool is divine! Highly recommend!

I really liked the Bon Ton. Not standard in any way but interesting and beguiling. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it was mine. I loved the rooms, furnishings and the food. Food was a tad more expensive than it need be, & staff were occasionally very relaxed. But it was all good.

I totally loved the Bon Ton. My friend was in the Temple Tree, and I in the Bon Ton. But they were both amazing. Gorgeous intriguing properties creatively furnished, fabulous food and restaurants, lovely grounds and views and friendly helpful staff. I also loved that half of the profits go to the animal shelter. One small detractor for me was the staff (& children) gathered behind my room talking til early in the morning.

Well, not close to beach. No view. Mosquitoes but staff make effort to assist with this. Noisy with dog refuge next door. Many cats and other small animals even in the rooms! No tv, no phone, nice restaurant, nice gift shop. No real room comforts and at this price no great breakfast food. Pool average. We moved to another resort on the beach and will stay there next time.

Warning : There are quite a few bugs as the hotel is next to a field and numerous lizards. If bugs freak you out , stay away. If not , a nice getaway from the touristy resorts.

Ridiculously overpriced property

The property is located half an hour by foot from the beach. It consists of several old Malaysian houses, with some modern equipment installed inside (TV, conditioner). The furniture is old, bordering on antique, but not in a good condition. Pillows have stains and cats' hair on. Cats are a lot around, making constant attempt to enter the room - to be minded by those with allergies to cats' hair and asthma. The windows do not have glass, just covered by shatters - meaning that all insects and staff that should stay outside is inside your room (lizards, mosquitoes, etc - maybe even snakes??). The linen were wet. Only one hand towel for 3 people provided. Breakfast is stored in the refrigerator and consists of a yogurt and cakes. Tea and coffee you are supposed to make yourself. Forget about champagne for breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly fried eggs with bacon. I could have understood and forgiven all above if this is a 2-star property costing USD40 per night, but the property price per night is 6 times higher. I felt cheated. We stayed one night and moved to another hotel.

Charming rooms on stilts. We were upgraded to the \"Laguna\" which was larger than expected. Restaurant had excellent dinner menu and good wine list. Complementary pre dinner cocktails were excellent. The one downside is that breakfast is delivered to your fridge the night before and is very limited.

Good with some comfort issues

My family and I stayed in the larger villas that can fit 5 people. The owner and the staff are very friendly and professional and the in-house restaurant also has good food. For someone wanting an experience staying in a traditional Malay village house, this place is perfect. They modernized the houses to include fans and air conditioning. However during our stay I could barely feel the air conditioning and the fans in the main bedroom especially while on the bed. The a/c was not powerful enough and the fans were too high up. I was not able to sleep comfortably because it was so hot. The living room with 3 day beds was a bit better but still not cold enough.

My family and I used the private pool and I like that it had lounge chairs and umbrellas for relaxing next to the pool. I noticed that half the spa jets in the shallow section of the pool were not working. For the price of the room I would have expected facilities to be better maintained.

Mosquitoes are a problem in a rural setting such as this resort and I am happy to find mosquito kits were provided including mosquito nets over the beds should one prefer the ultimate protection while sleeping. The staff even had mosquito coils burning under some tables at the in-house restaurant though we did not see them on our second dinner there. Besides the comfort issues, overall the villa was a unique and positive experience.

Rustic boutique hotel

Stayed at Bon Ton for 2 nights at the end of March. We had Blue Ginger, an 80 year old traditional Malaysian house which had been deconstructed, moved to the resort and reconstructed for guest use. It's a nice, creaky wooden building painted bright blue. Inside was spacious and appropriately furnished with vintage items. The bathroom was outside and surrounded by other guest rooms - someone would have had to make an effort to see in but it still didn't feel 100% private!

There are some really nice colonial style communal buildings within the resort and although Bon Ton is quite rustic / basic it does have an elegance about it. Service was great and the food at the restaurant was very nice. We also ate at the adjoining resort which was good too. The beach is a 15 - 20 min walk.

If you like the idea of rustic, outdoorsy boutique accommodation (light sleepers will probably be woken at 6am by the dogs from the shelter next door followed by the birds at sunrise) this is a great option overall. I found it a bit expensive but we did stay over the long Easter weekend which probably pushed prices up. Only other slight negative is that the pool needs much more regular cleaning. During the course of the day it filled with leaves and bugs but was not cleaned.

We had a fantastic stay at the Bon Ton. Loved the staff, the food, the pool, the villa. The villa is spacious and the bathroom huge. Beautiful breakfast is left in your room the night before, freshly baked bread and cakes, exotic fruits. Loved it. The staff are so friendly, welcoming you every time you come back. Fresh fruit by the pool every day. The town is around a four dollar ride away,worth it. It can be hot walking into town. Took a taxi to the cable car, what a great day. Beautiful views, and the oriental village has some good food. An island hopping tour, watching eagles feed, and swimming on some beautiful beaches was also a must.

Slow deck in and out. Historic perspective fun wears thin with inability to control heat humidity with fans and ac in the room. Good place for cat lovers that have a good tolerance for the tropics. Also dog lovers may enjoy the sounds of adjacent kennels. One day trial here interesting but enough for me.

We stayed at Palm (a hundred years old charming traditional timber Malay villa) for 2 nights from 11/12/15-13/12/15, attending colleague's wedding at Langkawi + celebrating my belated 10th years wedding anniversary. I am always dreaming to have my own Malay house someday. It was a memorable stay for me & husband. We both enjoyed the peace & quiet surroundings. We checked out on the day of my colleague's wedding \"kenduri\" at noon. We intended to leave our luggage & come back to pick the luggage as our flight back to KL is 9.30pm. Without asking,the hotel owner (I think he is) offered us to leave our luggage at the villa, if there is nobody to book the room today, we can use the room until 6pm. It was such a generous offer! It was a very hot & humid day. We came back after the \"kenduri\", showered and took a nap before we checked out again and heading to the airport. It was so great hospitality and deeply appreciated, as our flight back to KL was delayed from 9.30pm to 12.20am. It was a terrible 6 hours wait at the airport. But luckily, we freshened up and took a nap already.

Nice setting of chalets around the pool. Good standard of accommodation with hairdryer, complementary toiletries, mosquito net and plug in kit. Iron and yoga mat also provided on request. Large selection of DVD films available from reception to watch in the room but no TV channels to catch up with news. Very helpful service from manager who gave lots of tips and suggestions of things to do.
Only downside was the breakfast provided night before and placed in the fridge, to eat in the room the next morning. There was limited choice with no hot breakfast and I would have preferred to have breakfast freshly prepared and served in the restaurant considering they serve other meals there for lunch and dinner.

Nice design hotel but be aware that...

The hotel is very close to the airport so you can sometimes hear the airplanes. You are away from anything and taxi are super expensive over there so good place for a quiet stay but not if you want to enjoy night life or tour around the island...or you'd better have a good budgtet for taxi.The hotel belongs to a chain of two and you can enjoy the pool and the restaurant of both sites which are located next to each other.Do not go if you do not like cats as they are everywhere. Part of the benefits of he hotel go to a centre for cats and dogs located just on the corner of the hotel.The restaurant is ok ok but not that great and overpriced in comparison to other places. The staff is really nice and helpful.

I spent 4 nights in the Laguna villa recently and had a tremendous time. Having done some basic research before booking, I was aware of the 1.5km distance to the beach and the fact that there are numerous cats in the resort which has an attached animal sanctuary. The resort itself has a great chilled out vibe, the staff are extremely pleasant and friendly and willing to help order/book tours/taxis and give recommendations of places to visit on Langkawi. The food was very nice and we had both lunch and dinner in thre resort. The villa was fantastic with a very comfortable and spacious villa with large bed, soaking tub and excellent shower facilities. Although expensive, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Bon Ton resort and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Langkawi. The only negatives were it's proximity to the airport meant some noise from planes landing and it's distance from the beach but we found the resort so comfortable and relaxed that we didn't miss the beach.

I absolutely loved everything about this hotel !
The main impression was about the old style Malay villas (yes, you get your own villa) with designer furniture and modern utilities (TV, wi fi, fridge, etc) inside. There are just 8 villas which makes the place really nice and quiet. Btw, all villas are different and you can choose the one you like when booking.
The hotel's restaurant Nam is one of the top rated on the island and the food is great (l liked everything I tried). They also have free cocktail hour for guests every day at 7.
Staff were great (helped booking car rental, spas, provided great tips about the island).
The location is ideal, close to the airport but you don't get bothered by planes taking off and landing, close to the town (pantai cenang) and the beach - 10 minutes walk.
I thought it might be better to be closer to the beach when making a booking but it turned out to be a perfect location as pantai cenang is really a hectic place with a lot of construction in progress (quite different to a typical western beach town).

got a tooth infection while staying here and they drove us to the hospital at midnight and waited for us then drove us to the dentist the next day.

An experience of a traditional Malay villa.

Whilst the villas are very typical Malay, felt that they needed to be made a little more comfortable, and cleaner for the price. There were tea/drink stains on the paintwork especially by the bin which could easily have been cleaned.
There were two of us staying but after using both glasses they only left us with one!
One has to be a cat lover to stay at the resort as there are loads of them, also helps to be a dog lover too as they woke you early morning howling.

Perfect Vacation

I look at things with a critical eye, but cannot find anything negative about Bon Ton except that Wi-Fi was limited in our bungalow. Other than that, everyhting was perfect: the service, food, and smiley faces!
