Still itching just thinking about this property

Rather gloomy and grim entrance the overall condition is quite poor and below standard expected by most business travellers . Whilst these apartments are cheaper than others in the city centre location - the condition is quite poor and I think these apartments offer poor value to anyone other than those on an extreme budget prepared to rough it - a previous reviewer talked about bedbugs which scares the hell out of me - anyway I shall not be returning there and I am critical of hotels.com for including this property in their listings.

AVOID: BED BUGS
The accommodation was riddled with bed bugs. We only discovered this late in to the night and 6 weeks later we are still dealing with bed bugs in our home. The hotel has not responded to any of our messages or offered any compensation for this.

Ok, but too hot for us.

The room and bathroom were clean and fine, but there was no window to open, just three very small glass slats that only tilted 1cm. It was way too hot, when it was only 19deg C outside. We managed to catch house keeping and getting an electric fan, but it was still crazy warm.
The beds were super comfy. Loads of tea and coffee and big TV.
In the winter it'd be brilliant. Easy access with codes, no keys or cards to worry about.

All we required was a bed for the night.
Room 19 at the front.
We were very happy with the room and bathroom was spacious and clean. Saturday nights will be noisy as you are in the town centre and young people will enjoy themselves and shout ln the way home.
It is disconcerting that there is no staff and all locks are digital. Dont delete the text! I did try the contact numbers in the days before my visit a never received an answer.
Overall happy to return as close to the railway station and main shopping area.
It would be nkce to be able to leave the luggage somewhere safe for a few hours.

Cheap option in town center

Nice convenient place in town centre. Condition is OK and toilette is quite small. There is a common kitchen that gives an unpleasant smell to the common areas.
It doesn't give a sense of security given the way keys are delivered that for sure could be improved

This is what it says it is; a room. There was an en-suite shower & toilet and a tea/coffee maker. The space was very small (the bedding had to be tucked out of the way to completely close the door) and the available floor space not occupied by the bed was not much more than 15 square feet. It was fairly hard to find. The entrance is squeezed in next to a coffee shop, but extremely convenient for the station and basically all of central Reading.

SHOULD NEVER BE ON HOTELS.COM!!
- difficult to find.
- needed to wait for one of 'flat mates' to bring card
- nasty smell of curry.
- room extremely small.
- loud noises through the night.
Wish I read more reviews or looked at photos.
Carpark £25 for night. No parking to drop the bag off.

Essential, but newly renovated, clean and practical.
Very close to station and all destinations in central Reading.
there is no reception: the process to get the keys is well managed, but just be aware there is no reception.
Breakfast is served at the cafe below and is fresh and good quality.

The location is superb. It is self checkin through a pin unlocked box so no fuss around that. It's tidy and clean. The rooms are very small and I could hear the TV from the room next to mine. It wasn't anything special for the money.

Thankfully my partner was unable to come. On arriving front door had wet paint. Due renovations full English breakfast, that had been prepaid was unavailable and a poor continental breakfast substituted I had been notified a week before but felt some extra effort should have been made.
It was worse as most of substitute breakfast I was allergic too

Great location but too many flaws to recommend

The cafe that used to front the hotel has closed, with no staff on site to administer keys. I was supposed to receive a text to give me the key code for the safe with my key which is on the wall outside the front door, but did not so had no idea how to get in. By chance one of the residents was passing and did it for me. There is no breakfast such such, rather the room is provided with a packed croissant, a banana and an apple, a fruit juice drink and a cereal bar, with the usual range of tea and coffee. The room itself and the bathroom were clean but the pillows so hard a good sleep was impossible. The wi-fi connection is the worst I have encountered in the UK and so weak as to render a notebook or tablet useless, whereas a smart phone at least has a better and faster connection. There is a tv but most of the channels either could not receive a signal or kept blanking out. Although in a great location in the centre of town round the corner from the railway station, this was a disappointing experience.

Non-existent staff, pathetic breakfast

Because the reception area was being renovated was no excuse for no member of
staff to appear at all. I was paid for English breakfast and instead received a pathetic croissa nt in my room. The room was hot, not very clean and I would definetely not go again.

Everything was completely in order. It was explained that refurbishment was taking place. We were leaving at 4.30 in the morning and the owner was very concerned that we were not getting a breakfast and would supply a packed meal, which we were very grateful for but declined. I would visit again.

You get what you paid for, it is not noisy at all, just that when others close the door, you hear the sound of that. Rooms are basic, old furnitures which is still okay for me as I stayed there for office reasons. Shower and the toilet is also good including the heating. The main thing which really put me off was the room carpet which is very old and looks dirty, they should really change it. Will I stay there again? May be if I get a good deal as it is very close to the station and shops.

Stopping in Reading

The proprietor was very helpful with parking, and offered an NCP voucher to park in a near-by car park. However we decided, after hearing that parking was free outside la baguette between 20:00 and 08:00 hrs, that it was better to get away early (before 8), and therefore had to miss breakfast, which I was looking forward to after specifying vegetarianism. Next time....
As we had to wait till 8pm we decided to eat in Morrison's for the excellent long stay free parking, otherwise we would have preferred a nice restaurant, but with soaring parking prices, this was not an option.
This turned into a late night shopping spree in Laura Ashley's where we grabbed some fabulous bargains. So proper chuffed all round.

Simple, comfortable, odd arrival but turned out ok

This simple place was a very good value. Really close to the train station (and all the buses), a relatively quiet room, and a comfortable bed. And breakfast was really good (the coffee was excellent). Be advised that, if you arrive after the adjoining cafe is closed, you will need to phone the number posted on the door, and they will give you the code to the lockbox that contains your key, the WiFi password, etc. It felt quite odd to have no one to ask for whatever might have been needed, but it was \"OK.\" The service and welcome at the cafe in the morning were great, so I imagine if I had arrived earlier, it might have been a different story. Very simple accommodations, but I would consider staying there again.

Ideal well priced centrally locate BnB

A lovely little B&B on top of a sandwich shop in the centre of Reading a couple of minutes away from the station.

If there was one thing that worried me, it was getting the key card. Had the sandwhich shop being shut, I imagine I'd have had to ring one of the three numbers on the door to get my key card. I didn't though, just a concern had I turned up out of hours.

They used key cards, which shows the place is modern. A nice modern television inside too.

Breakfast was served in the cafe area of the sandwich shop downstairs. Very nice, full English breakfast.

I liked the way it was lightly staffed and I was left to my own devices (privacy appreciated), My room was next to a pub which was very loud until the early hours plus a generator was situated directly underneath my window, None of which posed much of a problem once the window was shut, I imagine this would be a problem in the summer though. My room was clean and comfortable with a fully functioning TV (again, appreciated) The staff I spoke to on phone to locate my door key and the lady in the morning who served my breakfast were pleasant and helpful.

Don't believe the webpage

Backs onto nightclub. No sleep. Loud music. Smashing bottles in garbage containers. Drunks shouting. No breakfast on Sunday. No discount for no breakfast. Smallest room ever. You can actually touch both walls easily. Toilet was broken. Water ran all night. No staff to help. Nice name. Good location for train station. Spend your money elsewhere.

Best possible location in Reading town centre

The room was very hot, although my stay coincided with the hottest day in 40 years. No air-con in the room, just a table fan that tried its best. The carpet was very dated. The room and en-suite bathroom were tiny but clean. I had no issue checking in, even though it was unmanned at the time of the day. The full english breakfast was nice. The location was very central in Reading town and the station is just round the corner. I would visit again if travelling alone, but never ever with family.

Options limited in the area because of Royal Ascot so decided to try this BnB in Reading.
Parking in the area is limited and traffic wardens ARE quick off the mark as I had only parked in the next street to offload my luggage.
Room was functional, with ensuite and a good shower.
First issue was no wi-fi. Card left in the room saying \"Cloud\" available but neither phone or laptop gave this option (rectified next day, alternative given by management).
No desk, chair or even bedside table in the room so can be a bit cramped and all had a look like it hasn't been updated for a very long time.
This week has been the hottest so far this year, my first thoughts on entering the room was, a fan - yes! But it was still so hot in the room I opened the window (big mistake). Disturbed on each of my four night stays from 9pm, midnight, and after 1am. O'Neills pub courtyard directly below emptied crate after crate of bottles in to wheelie bins, the noise was crazy. This was on top of the noise from the big A/C units all humming away cutting in and out through the night on the walls outside the window - yet my room didn't have any aircon, it if did maybe I could close the window and get a decent night's sleep.

Disappointing hotel

The confirmation stated check in reception open till 9pm. Arrived 8 pm no reception no instructions luckily found an envelope with my name on it in an unlocked post box by hotel. The room was very small and not the cleanest (no duvet cover on duvet and some unpleasant looking hairs and stains on the duvet. (No one to complain to). The room was extremely hot but there was a choice hot and sweaty with window closed or cooler but deafening loud thump of music from night club that must be very close. Unrefreshed and keen to leave in the morning we decided to live with the change in check out time from the confirmation stated 10am to the note in the room that stated 9.30. We left and went for the confirmation stated breakfast included only to find cafe where breakfast was supposed to be shut with no sign of life. Again no sigh of anyone for check out so left room key in same unlocked post box and left never to return.

Perfect for the night

Finding the bnb was very easy being on the Main Street from the train station. Arriving late, the instructions for picking up my key card was very clear and all went smoothly. The room was small but cosy, comfortable, clean and had everything I needed- including a fan (which was needed due to it being one of the hottest days of the year). The shower was powerful and clean.
Despite being on a Main Street I also believe the windows were very effective at keeping out any noise. Very easy to get breakfast in the morning and check out. Would recommend.

Noisy and unpleasant

On arrival at the hotel there were no staff and no intercom, push button that dials a number, no phone just a A4 piece of paper with telephone numbers. Lucky my phone was charged otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get in without a lot of hassle. Rang the 1st number it rang out, 2nd number somebody answered and gave me a code to get my card from a box on the wall. How hard would it be to install a £130 ring video doorbell or some kind of dialler intercom?

Room looked like it was very dated, very pink, carpet, curtains, bed, lamp, pink everything and all had a look like it hasn't been updated for a very long time.

As it was so hot in the room I opened the window (big mistake) as at midnight, 1AM and then even past 1AM the pub courtyard directly below emptied crate after crate of bottles in to 9 massive square bins, the noise was crazy.

On top of the noise from the big 9 (I counted them) air conditioning units all humming away cutting in and out through the night on the walls outside the window - yet my room didn't have any aircon, it if did maybe I could close the window and get a decent night's sleep. The ONLY good part was the breakfast.

It was great to roll out of bed, go down and have a full breakfast and be able to come back, get my bags and head off to work. The cafe folks who serve said breakfast are lovely. I was also thrilled with how close everything was--it's literally across the street from the public library/museum and around the corner from Forbury Park, location of the famed Reading Abbey (now only a few small ruins), the gardens where Jane Austen once cavorted and the Reading Gaol where Oscar Wilde was unjustly locked up. The historical area is gorgeous. Unfortunately, I had work to do and it was next to impossible to do it in the room, as there were no chairs, let alone a table. Everything is a bit on the chintzy/small side, with a wardrobe too short to accommodate even a regular sized button down, let alone slacks or skirts. And the walls are quite thin, the air too close. But I actually loved my stay regardless. The atmosphere, the breakfast, the proximity all made up for it.

Most awful experince

I went to attend a conference in London. It was al on line booking.The hotel owner stays far away leaving the key for entry to a neighbouring café. On entry the doorway was poorly lit .The way to the room was littered with dirt and heavily stained carpet. The timing of the light was such that the light turned off before I reached my room, leaving me out in the cold and dark. Over all the experience of staying in that hotel was very traumatic I will not recommend this place for any body.

Terrible, avoid at all costs. I didn't even get through the door. I called the mobile number and was instructed where to find the access card, it didn't work. The guy couldn't be bothered to come and open the door for me, he also informed me that he doesn't do refunds. I booked into another hotel instead. Give it a swerve!

Cheap and convenient

Needed a place in Reading town centre, everywhere expensive, this place above a local caff fit the bill. Lovely Polish staff check you in as they make sandwiches for local workers, give you a key card, and you're left to your own devices. Staircase beside the caff quiet grotty but room fine for the price – kettle also provided. Breakfast pretty simple and taken downstairs in the caff. Staff really nice beforehand too, as I had to send them a text message for the room to be ready by 12.30pm, which it was, with pleasure. No more than 5min walk from/to the station.

No breakfast, no check out!

The room was well located for us but it's v noisy as in the city centre, was small but pleasant enough. When I came to check out and breakfast though the cafe was shut. Meaning we had to search elsewhere for food even though it had been paid for in the price and we just had to leave our key in our room and shut the door. There was no one to see on our way out. Also checkout times on hotel.com differ from those written in the rooms!

yuk! If you are a B and B then serve breakfast. We stayed on a Saturday night and they don't serve breakfast on Sunday mornings. If that was in the pre-booking info I must have missed it. Still, kinda sucks because I paid the same price. Room was stuffy and windows didn't open. No A/C usually isn't a problem in England but it is if you can't get windows to open. Close to train station was its best feature. We never interacted with a human being at this place - I found that odd.

I was given the wrong postcode, which led me to walking around Reading for more than an hour.
Room was so tiny that it made me claustrophobic.
Wi-Fi not working at night.
A room with a view, on waste containers.
Only took it because it was the last room available, all over Reading. Hopefully never again.

Avoid unless you have no choice

The only good thing about it is the location, right by the train station and around the corner from the very nice Reading city centre. As other reviewers have noted, this isn't a hotel. It isn't really a bed and breakfast either as once the cafe closes at 3:00 there is NO ONE around in case you need anything or require anything. The room is very basic with run-down bureau, old, somewhat stained wall to wall carpet, no chair (at least for my single room) and a VERY UNCOMFORTABLE single bed. I could feel the coils. All doors slam very loudly even if you are trying to be quiet. Bring ear plugs. My room overlooked a back alley filled with garbage cans that were noisily filled around 11:00 at night. The free breakfast was a thoroughly inadequate selection of a bowl of corn flakes or two pieces of buttered toast and a mysterious concoction supposed to be scrambled eggs or a full English breakfast with toast, beans, an egg and mystery meat. If you can abide the mystery meat, it's some sort of breakfast; if you are vegetarian, you will leave almost as hungry as when you arrived. Can't imagine who would frequent this cafe except the beleaguered guests of the \"hotel.\" The staff, who appear to be East European or Russian, aren't exactly friendly. The whole setup reminded me of a post-Cold War place I stayed in in Prague a long while ago. Everything was cheap, beaten-up, and frankly depressing. I hate given such a totally negative review, but this place deserves it.

La Baguette is conveniently located downtown near the station. The rooms, tucked away above an inauspicious entryway, are petite but very clean, functional and comfortable and the breakfast in the neighboring cafe also met expectations. There was a bit of party noise from the back of a club that backs onto the same courtyard. Also, you will need to call ahead to instructions how to check in after 3 pm. Overall, I thought it was good value.

I stayed at La Baguettes on two seperate occasions. La Baguette is a satisfactory hotel that is conveniently located in the center of Reading. The amenities are OK however the shower heads were quite rusted. Everything else was normal as per hotels in England.

The rooms were warms and the beds were satisfactory. The WiFi was slow however usable.

In short, the hotel is great if your looking for a stay in Reading, specifically as it is also quite affordable in comparison with some of the larger hotel chains.

The breakfast offered was 'ok', fairly normal by English standards.

Ideally located hotel in the centre of Reading

I booked this b&b for the Reading festival. It was conveniently located near to the train station. The room was clean and adequate for a single person. The bed was a little firm but satisfactory for one nights stay. Be aware they don't provide breakfast on Sundays. Also it was a shame some of the staff could not understand English and therefore help me with my query.

The corridor smelt of enamel so not a great welcome, the room was ok but the shower was not clean. Ok for a one night stay.
