Slightly disappointed considering its fantastic reviews. Arrived for a 1 night stay on the weekend, checked in slightly early which was great but was given a room on the third floor and advised to take the lift. Called both lifts down to the ground floor, got in the left one and chose floor 3 and a message saying “call locked” on the panel showed up, got out tried to call the second lift down but it never showed. Took the stairs to the room and the building is like a labyrinth. I advise you learn all the safety exits when you arrive to prevent any issues in an emergency. Got to the room and it was…ok. Nothing special and as someone who is sensitive to dust and allergens it felt very musty in the room. I struggled to sleep because of this. The room on the window had been installed in front of an old window so there was loads of mould in between the sweaty windows. One of the pillows had a hole in and the other side had black scuff marks all over. I had a street side bedroom and the noise was extremely off putting. The bars don’t close until gone 3am and then after they’ve emptied all their rubbish (bottles and glasses etc) the local Sainsbury’s took stock delivery at 5am so don’t expect an great sleep. Speaking of, the air-con unit rattled the entire night (even when turned off) it was actually easier to try and sleep with it on and not ratting as much…tried hard to give this hotel the benefit of the doubt but can’t recommend it.

Stayed 1 night - good location, quiet + spacious room on the 2nd floor, was able to check in 3 hours early as room was ready when i came in to leave my bag in the luggage room.

Hotel looked tired and in need of a renovation. Room had no heating/cooling options other than a portable oil fired radiator. Room was on second floor at front of hotel and noisy. Sainsbury's Local supermarket was opposite the hotel and deliveries on both nights began at 3.30am which resulted in little sleep. Not the romantic weekend away that we were hoping for. Spoke to manager in the morning whose response was 'the hotel is on a town and they can't control nise'. Not impressed. Has put me off visiting another Malmaison,

We travelled up to Reading as an overnight stay after watching England at Twickenham. Checked in online, and contacted reception in advance to see if we could leave our bags in the room at 1130. Nothing was too much trouble and the room was clean and welcoming. This is the second year in a row we have stayed here, and the accommodation a breakfast was top notch. A cracking solution to avoiding London prices and the queues for trains.

Parking at station carpark through underpass expensive but secure found police patrolling.
Fantastic food just be away as well as leaving space for tip on bill they also add 15% service charge !

Malmaison came to our rescue after we had booked into the Reading Travelodge. One look inside and we knew we had made a mistake. We booked into Malmaison and checked in less than an hour later. We were very happy. Our room was spacious, modern and clean. We received a warm welcome and had a fantastic stay while we explored reading.

The room was on a corner on the first floor next to a bus stand. The noise from people shouting outside the property during the night & buses stopping & starting meant we did not have a good nights sleep. The lighting in the room was very poor and one of the bathroom shower taps did not work so the temperature could not be controlled. Have stayed previously in a different room which was great so this experience was very disappointing.

Parking n/a. Drink options good. I do not enjoy having a suite and not being able to crack a window open a little bit. I do not enjoy air conditioning. Also you should not have to pay for extra water. Extra water should be free of charge.

My family and I visiting Reading for a family wedding. We wanted a hotel that was near transportation and had an excellent rating. Malmaison did not disappoint. The staff friendly and fabulous. The rooms large, immaculate and comfortable. Can we talk about location…perfect if you want to jump on a train to visit anywhere in England (which we did). Don’t let the hustle and bustle of the train station scare you because once you walk thru the hotel doors, the outside stays outside! We plan to stay again and again and again!

Overall the property was somewhat tired in appearance. The “mood lighting” ( otherwise known as dim ) in the room covered a number of shortcomings. The staff however were friendly and efficient. Best area of the hotel was the restaurant for evening meal and breakfast.

I absolutely loved this hotel - I loved every thing about the hotel. My room was brilliant lovely , so clean , we had a bath and a shower . We had slippers and a dressing gown if needed.A mini fridge , a safe , bed was huge. The staff x the cleaners ( all who I came in contact with) with was really friendly, nothing was too much for them.
I would 100 percent recommend the hotel. X

Air conditioning in the room did not function. It was much warmer in the room than in other parts of the hotel.

Bathroom was disgusting, lots of moldy water damage. The shower was not accessible at all, with a very high step into the bath and no safety railings or anything to hold. Essentially you had to climb over the toilet to get in.

Room was very noisy, and the common areas of the hotel were taken up with a function. Dining was not available and room service had only limited availability even though it was advertised as 24 hours. Room service menu had limited items as well, many things were not available.

Location is good for the station, that's about all the positives I have.

Stayed here for one night with my partner. She checked in before me, however, they charged her £103 at check in which she later messaged me about, however, I had already paid for the room. When she went to query this they refunded her, however were unapologetic. When I arrived I requested to understand what had happened to be told by a staff member it is not her fault and it was dealt with by another employee, again no apology.

Room itself wasn’t the best, cracks and dirt in the bathroom. I would expect better from a Malmaison. Very disappointed with our stay. You would expect hospitality from a hotel, however, they failed to deliver, would absolutely not stay again.

This was my 4th or 5th stay and while the service is excellent the hotel is showing either its age or neglect.
Furniture in my room was worn, the bed was lumpy and the lighting way too muted. Think my next visit to Reading might require a new venue. All of that said the reception staff and the housekeeping staff were excellent/

The room was hot with no natural ventilation, and the aircon was not working.
Hot water taps are dangerous as labelled and the wrong way around. Cold tap scalding your hand.
Complained to the hotel at the time and emailed Hotels.com
No follow-up from either.

Avoid! Much better options for cheaper in Reading!

I would not return to this hotel. I slept at 4am as the noise levels both inside the hotel and outside were atrocious up to that time. I requested a toothbrush kit in the morning and was very rudely told that I would need to get up and get it myself from the vending machine on the ground floor. The room was very dark as well as the entire hotel, even hurt my leg on the loo roll holder as it is too close to the loo. There is no water in the room and shower handle was broken.

It was good. The room was generally clean, but there were a few signs that it hadn't been deep-cleaned for a while, plus there was only one plug socket i could use as the other two with the lamps plugged in were a weird round shape.

The staff were friendly, but when I checked in, I was bombarded by a few upselling promotions, which I just found unnecessary and annoying after a long journey,

Always enjoy a stay at malmaison, suites are lovely and spacious, never stayed in standard rooms.
Dinner options are relatively limited but there is always enough choice and the food doesn’t disappoint. Breakfast also good. Both continental and hot choices if you want to pay a little extra and all cooked fresh. Bar tends to be that little bit quieter on a Friday evening so preferable for us to a Saturday evening! Another great stay, we’ll definitely be back yet again soon.

Had a very lovely overnight stay at Malmaison. The staff were all great. Nice guy on reception. Exceptionally good bartender, who made wonderful cocktails. Waitress at breakfast was great. Overall a great experience. Great food and a perfect night stay. Reading gets more and more salubrious, but you just ignore that!
