I booked the hotel 7 months in advance to get there and find out they had given my room away . The hotel manager was very sympathetic and arranged another hotel for us . But we booked this particular hotel due to location and ended up being miles away 😟

We enjoyed the great location to downtown and the Lincoln Presidential Museum & Library. We slept well and the building was quiet at night. The breakfast was adequate. Cons: Sketchy neighborhood, No towels were in our room when we arrived and we had to go retrieve them from the front desk after two attempts. No one is always covering the front desk.

Shortly after a late Friday afternoon the entire building experienced electrical problems. Power would go off & emergency lighting would go on. The desk clerk did a wonderful job by checking out all floors & reporting the problem to the hotel manager. The clerk kept us updated on what was being done. After a little bit less than an hour all problems were resolved.

The Carpenter Street Hotel was within walking distance of the Lincoln Museum. Parking was free to guests and so was breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable and the price was very reasonable. We would stay there again.

Nice convenient stop off hotel during my Route 66 road trip form Chicago to Santa Monica. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was big and comfortable. Also the most important thing for all travellers. The room doesn’t smell funny.

The towels, the plumbing, scent in the corridors and etc. I know that it’s relatively inexpensive but if you’re putting your name on a property, it should meet a standard. The Carpenter does not even meet an average standard. Would not recommend. I would not recommend it as a job opportunity, you can’t do a good job if your corporation doesn’t care.

Came for the weekend. Hotel is a short walk from the Lincoln Museum/Library and other attractions. The room was spacious, and had a proper reading chair, not just a desk chair, which was an excellent addition. The bathroom fan was a bit noisier than I would have liked. Breakfast was OK - I suspect increased food prices have required some hotels to adjust their menus. May want to replace the machine which makes the morning coffee. The coffee maker in my room made better coffee. Overall, a nice stay, attractive price, and good staff.

They should consider balancing the dated condition by at least updating the basics like towels and providing Kleenex. There were only 2 towels, and they were so thin from being washed so many times, I joked that they might have been there since the hotel was originally built. Conveniently located near the business district area of Springfield and centrally located not far from some of the major sights of Springfield, this hotel is an ideal place to stay while visiting Springfield. My room was clean, the bathroom was clean, the beds and pillows were softer than what I prefer but they were adequate. The amenities were good for the rate. They have a small fitness center which was adequate for my need. The complimentary breakfast had a decent variety to choose from. The customer service was good. My only issue was the room AC/ Heater control. When on heat setting, even at a low temp, the room got pretty hot. So the thermostat needed to be on Cool at a high temperature. Other than, no issues and I would stay here again.

Staff was wonderful! This is an older hotel, so it has a couple quirks. When I reported the rocking toilet, staff and maintenance was quick to come examine and do as much as they could to stabilize. Springfield is surprisingly quiet (other than the occasional trains) with low car and foot traffic. Everyone was wonderful during our stay!
