Stayed a couple of nights whilst touring with our dog. Dogs were very welcome. Great area for walking and hiking. Room was large and very clean. Excellent breakfast buffet. Would stay again if in the area.

A bit out of the way, but excellent

It was a little out of the way, on the hill overlooking Trier, but the Sat-Nav got us there quite fine and we were made welcome very quickly.
There are interesting views over the city of Trier from the dining room and many bedrooms - my daughters had room 2 with great views, I had room 6 which has no view at all.

Comfortable, friendly, good food in the restaurant and excellent breakfasts too.

We stayed for one night while traveling through the area. It was very clean but needed some updating, just little touches like revising bedding and curtains would make a difference in the room feeling refreshed vs. dated (and not in a way that felt historic, just old). The room was spacious, though hard to drag our heavy luggage to the third floor, but it was nice to be able to see the view out across the city below. The breakfast was really great; lots of options, well made and very satisfying. The location was also convenient to us getting on the highway in the morning but not as convenient to town. Overall it was a pleasant stay for one night.

Great value hotel for our Trier visit.
Comfortable room, reasonable wifi, nice buffet breakfast with eggs, bacon and sausage as well as usual cereals, meats, cheese.
Splendid views over Trier from terrace.
Dinners were good, especially the jugged hare.
Pleasant walk in the woods down to the animal park (about 2/3 the way down to Trier itself).

This place is an absolute Gem for its convenient price. Staff is courteous. The view overlooking the town while you eat at the restauraunt is humbling. Its the perfect combination of modern and old fashioned. Its secluded but a close drive to historic district. I wish i couldve stayed longer.

This hotel was in a wonderful location on the hill just outside Trier with amazing views of the city. Easy to get to if you have a car, but probably not the best option if you don't. The rooms were comfortable with just enough room. The breakfast in the morning was plentiful and delicious - highly recommend!

Very nice, affordable hotel outside of Trier (about a ten minute ride into the city). Rooms are tiny, but it's to be expected at this price. Very clean, helpful staff, and great views no matter where you are in the hotel. Well off the main highway, so you will not have to deal with loitering or noise.

Perfect panoramic view of the city.

Just make sure to plan your route you the hotel in advance. We had to take taxis and they are incredibly hard to find in Trier. You can walk your way down through the woods but it will take you some 40 minutes to get to city centre.

Beautiful situation, but tired and dated hotel

The hotel itself looks great from the outside, but inside it's a different story. The room on 2nd floor (no lift by the way) was supposed to have a \"forest view\", but only looked out on a carpark and other hotel buildings. The ensuite bathroom was modern, but the rest of the room was not. The bed sheets were like bri-nylon or something like that which was so uncomfortable, I ended up lying on my bath towel.
Then, at breakfast, we had the misfortune to arrive just after a coach party, so there was a long queue for the buffet. The food itself was ok. We would certainly not consider staying there again.

Fantastic view over Trier

A friendly, characterful and traditional hotel that is not recently modernised but in some ways all the better for it as it retains something of its old grandeur as a family country residence of the 19th century.

On an exceptionally hot night the lack of air-con can be an issue but here the emphasis is in ‘exceptionally’ - how often do we get a summer like this? Rooms are quite basic but perfectly adequate for most people.

Food is good value (by German standards) and varied in the restaurant where you can sit in the terrace with its fine vista. Breakfast very reasonable too with plenty of variety.

All in all an ideal stopping place on a long journey across Europe. Have stopped here twice and will happily do so again

We stayed in a room in the annexe, which although it was quite small was perfectly adequate. The hotel had wonderful views overlooking Trier. We enjoyed an evening meal at the restaurant, eating out on the balcony. The hotel staff were friendly and there was good car parking on site.

DELIGHTFUL HERITAGE HOTEL WITH BREATHTAKING VIEWS

Wonderful updated heritage hotel located on a forested hill with breathtaking views of Treir only 10 minutes by car from the old town by car or taxi. The area is quiet except for bird songs which dominate the area during daylight. My sister and I enjoyed the walk from the hotel down the hill on a well defined path through lush woodland to town each day which was less than an hour. Alternately you can catch the bus starting at the train station to the hotel. The hotel is spotless, serves delicious buffet breakfasts, and has a terrace where you can eat meals and sip premium Mosel wine while enjoying sweeping views of the area. We found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating. I definitely will be back!!

Stunning view of city, very good restaurant

We had a car, so did not mind the 10 minute drive from Trier. It was very nice to leave the busy town and return to the calm hotel for dinner, overlooking the city view. We enjoyed their food very much, with a friendly professional serving staff.
Cigarette smoke is an issue; the first non-smoking room they gave us smelled strongly of smoke, including the bedding and clean towels in the bathroom. Staff members, and guests, stand at the front entrance and smoke, so each time we exited or entered it was through a cloud of smoke. It also drifts up through the room windows above.
The hotel was very quiet, with beautiful surrounding woods with walking trails. I noticed a bus stop at the main road, and a taxi wouldn't cost much, so even those without cars could enjoy the hotel. Free parking at the hotel makes up for the 15 euro we paid to park 7 hours downtown. The smoke issue is the only thing keeping me from giving this charming hotel 5 stars.

Love Love Love this Place!

I’m usually one to avoid B&B’s or small mom and pop hotels as I like the anonymity of staying at a large hotel, but this place definitely changed my view on that. The family that owns the hotel are very welcoming, and quite funny. They were happy to help with any questions we had and helped set the tone for the rest of our vacation. The hotel is a bit away from the main sites in Trier, but there’s easy access to the highway and our friends had no issue getting taxi service when they wanted to do stuff on their own (we had a rental car). Best part: the hotel offers great views of Trier.

As we drove in at night it really felt like we were going to some place in no mans land but as we arrived we were surprised by the place. It is a charming place with great hosts who were very pleasant and welcoming. Nice restaurant with a view and the food was great. Breakfast was also excellent. Room was small but that is what we had asked for as this was the cheapest room. It was comfortable though and had good wifi. If we ever travel back this way we definitely would stay here again.

What a view!

What a fabulous view of Trier by day or night! Very quiet in a farm-like setting. Food for breakfast was perfect, with plenty of variety; an excellent deal for 5 euros per person. We ate at their restaurant for dinner; they gave us a window seat with our reservation. Food was very good. The helpful staff gave us directions to drive back to the hotel from town, as there was road construction; we had no problem using their gps directions.

We toured all the Roman ruins on foot as we are good walkers. A lovely town.

Could have been so much better

Disappointing experience, mainly due to unhelpful/rude staff and total lack of wifi.
Location is great and close to motorway, but actual hotel room was miniscule and more suited to Bilbo Baggins. This was really a 1-bed room, but somehow they managed to put a double bed in it.
Room price was low, but we would have expected just a tiny bit more space and no arguing staff member at reception.
This could be a great hotel if the owners tried (a lot) harder.

The hotel has plenty of character, a very good restaurant and beautiful views from the terrace. The room was very comfortable, the staff friendly and the breakfast very good. The only drawback was its distance from Trier - it is 3-4 kms from the centre of the city at the end of a country road, a little more remote than I had understood from the information on the booking site. If you are planning to stay here and go into Trier for the day, factor in 8-10 euros for car parking.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. Central location for visiting the sites in the Ardennes and Rhineland. View from the terrace was great and the food was pretty good. At check in the receptionist was very nice. However, the other receptionist, although not rude, was impatient. Also even though it was supposed to be non smoking in the lobby area she smoked. Not just a problem at this hotel but all hotels in Europe is the smoking. This hotel had a stunning view of Trier from the terrace. However if you ate there you were inundated with smokers who are inconsiderate of others. Additionally, eating in the dining room did not prevent the smoke from coming in from the outside. Unfortunately it is like this wherever you go. Although comforters are the European way we take the comforter out and use the casing as a sheet.

Very nice hotel. The on-site restaurant served amazing Schnitzels!

It's around a 10 minute drive from Trier and on the Luxembourg side so fit in great with out itinerary. They are dog friendly!

The breakfast, was at the time of writing, €5 extra per person but it's a very good German continental breakfast including nice bread, yogurts, fruit, meat, cheeses as well as the bacon and scrambled eggs for those who don't want to try local food.

Excellent quality hotel: very professional staff. Beautiful setting, though hard to reach while road works are taking place. But they have signposted it well. The restaurant is also very professionally run, excellent dinner and buffet breakfast. Also good value for money.
We stayed in the annexe, an old farm building that has been modernised: very comfortable.

Great customer service. The room (2) had a good view. The bathroom was very small and the shower tray was raised from the floor slightly which was a little dangerous. There was a smell of cigarette smoke in the bathroom, which we assumed was coming through the ventilation system. The bedding was a bit shabby and the pillows full of fresh air. The food was good.

Very good long weekend stay

I stayed to attend a triathlon in Luxembourg just over the boarder. Was ideal as it was quiet and plenty of places to ride or run. The food was excellent. The free breakfast had all that I needed. They even put a breakfast at my door early in the morning of race day.

Off the beaten path outside of Trier. Beautiful Natural surrounding with the most AMAZING view of Trier from the balcony of the dining area! Our room was warm, cozy and perfect for resting from a long day of exploring. The staff was friendly and assisted with all our needs. Stayed at the hotel for a night. Amazing view of the city from the restaurant and the patio. The rooms are simply furnished but comfortable. However, when we checked in I found letters from a person in the safe. Furthermore there was an old tooth paste tube in the shower. How could that have been missed?

Quaint hotel outside the city

A side trip to Trier brought us to the Berghotel Kockelsberg which is outside the city, up on a hill with a nice view of the valley. The rooms are what one expects from a Berghotel (pension, etc), simple and comfortable. The staff was quite helpful, suggesting a way to walk through the woods into Trier and other activities. They also have a pleasant outside sitting area along with a large deck attached to the restaurant overlooking the city.

Since it's outside of town and up a significant hill, don't think about walking to the hotel (with your bags) - take a taxi for around 20euro or be adventurous and take the bus for only 2euro!

Definitely worth the trouble to get there though.

Tiny Room, Great View - Need the Car!

There are a couple of things you should know about this hotel. First, it is located about 4 km on a hill overlooking Trier. There is a walking path through the Trier Woods but if you enter into it, there is something of a complex maze of trails that all lead downhill, more or less, to the edge of the town. I asked three staff about walking to the town. None really encouraged it. They said it would take an hour to get to the Porta Negra. I started into the woods but then took the car. I'd recommend you do the same. Trier is large enough that unless you're a hardy walker, you'll be quite tired returning uphill to the hotel. The second thing is the room size. I stayed in a single room. It was tiny. I suspect that most of you reading this review have a walk-in closet larger than this room. It measured about 12 ft by 6 ft. However, it was located in the dormer of an adjoining building on their site. So, the roof sloped into the room. Consequently, the standing area in the room is really about 12 ft by 3 ft. Tiny! Having said that, the room was very clean and updated. And it was very quiet. There is nothing around this hotel, except woods. Overall, the hotel was okay. Staff was okay. And if you are a photographer, this hotel has a fantastic view of Trier. Perhaps you should eat dinner there, take the picture, and stay in town. I probably wouldn't stay here again, though there are not great options in Trier.

Stay in a real life Fairy Tale

Just like staying in a real life fairy tale. This is the most perfect place ever. The service was impeccable and when I wasn't able to get wifii they even offered me a ipad to use. Breakfast is so perfect just like everything else. If you get the chance to stay here you will love it so quiet, clean and amazing.

This hotel was perfect for us to stay in right outside of Luxembourge. It overlooked the town of Trier, Germany and set up on the hillside. It was very charming with great views, cheap breakfast and friendly staff. The drive into town was short as well.

Lovely hotel in a quiet location with safe parking on site. We stayed in the annex, which was undergoing renovations to the steps leading up to the rooms. This was quite hazardous. Large comfortable room, well equipped.

Wonderful location, very good place

Lovely little hotel which feels like a home. Very good food on a terrace that overlooks all of Trier, a city best viewed from above. Rooms fine. Nice walking opportunities in fields and woods nearby. Easily reached from the Autobahn.

Good hotel with views of Trier

The apartment we booked for the family was generous in size and nicely furnished. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was very good, service was excellent. Our table had views over Trier which from the hotel's elevated position were pretty good.
