The check in process could be clearer I'm not sure if this was an issue with hotels.com who I booked through or the venue but I didn't receive any check in instructions and when I got to the location the restaurant was closed and I was sat outside nearly an hour making phone calls trying to get in. That said the room was lovely for what I paid and once I was in the staff that I saw were really friendly and acommodating. The location is perfect for where my office is when I need to be in Durham so I would definitely stay again.

The thermostat to the radiators didn’t work so we couldn’t turn the temperature down and were therefore uncomfortably hot and got limited sleep. The mattress added to the lack of sleep as it was very uncomfortable. The door to our room you could close from the inside with a hard shove but you couldn’t close from the outside so we couldn’t
leave anything valuable in the room. The bathroom shelf was sitting at a jaunty angle and therefore we couldn’t put anything on it. The shower was more of a dribble than a shower. Having said all of that, it was neat and clean and a fraction of the cost of other local hotels.

From the moment we arrived till the morning we left we were made very welcome by all the people involved in running the OYO . They went above and beyond to help us out from Georgia booking taxis for us to my friend behind the bar going to his house to get me cigarettes when I had run out big thanks (hope you enjoy Edinburgh 👍👍👍) cleanliness spot on ,food amazing,and very reasonable for top quality,. would recommend to anyone looking forward to seeing you all again thanks

It felt like the focus was more on the restaurant than the accommodation. The staff seemed to have been unaware who was arriving so had to check. Said our rooms were not ready, even though we arrived after 5pm, but given alternatives. No mention of check out times or if breakfast was available, Expedia says they do breakfast at an extra cost? We had booked 2 rooms and first impression was nice décor. However one room had no toilet paper or sugar on the tea tray. I stayed in a family room, I had to move kettle to windowsill and put the extension lead on the single bed to use it as there was no socket nearby. One of the lamps did not switch on as it was not plugged in, had to take the lead over the single bed to do so after I tightening up the stand as it had come loose looked drunk. The bed had a wooden frame, the bottom end joints were loose and needed gluing. There were several empty and part used complimentary toiletries left in the shower from previous guests. My room was at the front of the property so overlooked the road, I personally had no problem with road noise as I am hearing impaired.
Okay there were some minor issues which had to be mentioned but the room and bed were clean and comfortable. I think we would stay here again because the issues did not bother us that much but needed to be mentioned so they can be put right. Although it may not necessarily be our first choice.

On entering the property we was greeted by the reception staff they were very friendly and helpful, they made our short stay feel at ease, had everything we needed and the owner was so polite even carried my bag upstairs and said anything we need just ask. Really can’t fault our room was lovely felt homely & cosy, the area was nice & quiet. Highly recommend this place. We had the family room as it was the last one left for us to book & was a great size room. 10/10

Stayed here a few years ago and was great very disappointed with this visit room was freezing heating put on as entered room draughts from windows closed was gale force toilet no heating whatsoever and again draught froze you when going to the loo

We picked a very busy day to need a bed in Durham as it was the university open weekend. La Spada was reasonably priced & good enough, despite quite a few adverse reviews.

The hotel is not set up to take guests after 10pm, a fact not highlighted when we booked at 11.30pm & then tried to get in. Fortunately we were admitted.

There was no breakfast service.

Absolutely disgusted with the room my partner and i were given, sex stains on the bed sheets, mud and dirt on the vallence, cobwebs throughout the room and bathroom, large spiders, large moths, shelf hanging off, dirty kettle with old stagnant water in it, and that is just the beginning, we only stayed 2 mins then left and requested a refund, the owner has refused, so to say I’m disappointed is an understatement! Please do not stay here unless you are homeless and need shelter as this is all it is good for!!

Room was awful, bath horrible, sink tap leaking, sink shelf broken, toilet handle broken, tv not tuned, no wifi code given, nobody there overnight 24hrs as it states, bed against a wall, no side tables, lots of air freshners to try and remove the stale smell, plastic spoons for tea.
I can't tell you how poor this was. We left after a night.

Bathroom facilities could Do with updating and I struggle to get the TV to work properly in my room but I’ve than that it was a lovely stay.

Great overnight stay!

We booked an overnight stay has we were going to the Beamish museum on the Sunday.
Which incidentally is a 15 minutes journey from there.
The hotel is above an Italian restaurant, we stayed in rm 2 the family room.
Room looks recently updated 2 single beds and a double. Tea and coffee facilities and toiletries in the bathroom.
Breakfast was 6.50 extra pp which was tasty and plentiful.

Had a lot of trouble locating the place as it had changed from an Inn to an Italian restaurant ,and the name from The Lambton Hounds Inn to La Spada restuarant between us booking and arriving .
Would have thought someone would have had the common courtesy to tell us so that we were looking for the right place !

Lovely hotel and restaurant

We booked a room through Expedia in what we thought was The Lambton Hounds Inn. What we wanted was the experience of an old English pub having travelled from Canada for a wedding on 19th May 2018. We were not told by Expedia that the hotel had changed to an Italian restaurant, however the experience still turned out to be a very good one. Our English friends joined us for an Italian meal which indeed turned out to be an excellent experience. All of the waiters/waitresses turned out to be very friendly and efficient. One of our party did not like Italian food and had never been in an Italian restaurant before. However, she had English food which was excellent. We would definitely visit the La Scala again despite not being told of its change of name and business.

We were staying whilst in the area for work, the owner and staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Because we had to go early before breakfast was served, they made us sandwiches the night before to take.
The meals in the restaurant were great value and excellent quality. Would have no problem recommending and certainly would stay again. Thanks

Lambton Hounds (La Spana) Fantastic!

A little confusing to start with as there has been a name change and the Lambton Hounds Inn is now La Spana! Please can you update the name to avoid anyone the same confusion we had!
However, once there - speedy check in and wonderful host.
Lovely clean room and one of the most comfortable beds that I have ever stayed in which was much appreciated given it was the night before me taking part in the Great North Run!
Lovely touch of packs made up for the following day of sandwiches, energy bars and water.

The staff were very helpful and accommodating.

The room was a bit on the small side for a double room, the decoration of the en suite was shabby and of a very poor standard. There were a few issues: A bedside lamp with no bulb, the strip light above the sink in the en suite was not working and the sink plug was broken. All these issues are easily fixed had the room been checked before our visit !

No longer the Lanbton Hounds Inn.

We stayed here for 2 nights for our grandaughter's graduation.
It is now an Italian restaurant with accomadation. We didn't eat there but the room was newly refurbished and very nice with a very comfortable bed. The 2 Italians that I assume are the owners were really very nice and were helpful. It was fine for what we wanted, clean and comfortable with friendly staff.

Not any more it's changed owners changed its name and it's amazing Italian restaurant down stairs food is very good , hotel rooms just had refurb and really are lovely , breakfast best one I can recall having whilst away from home , perfect if you off to beamish museum , or going to local concerts , we will back !

One night stay while attending a nearby wedding

The Lambton Hounds is obviously undergoing renovations- it's primarily a restaurant and all the signage refers to La Spada Restaurant which is a bit confusing. My room had been recently decorated with new carpet and curtains, and nice cushions but mismatched bedside lights, and was in a separate building two doors along the road from the restaurant/main premises. There was no hot water for the washbasin or bath, although the electric shower worked OK. Breakfast was good, but slow probably because ten of us in my group all arrived at the same time!

Ideal for business - great food.

The Lambton has had a change in ownership and is now La Spada and in the process of renovation. Despite this I was given a warm welcome and given a room away from the work in an annex due for renovation shortly. The room was clean and comfortable, more than adequate for my needs. The great thing is that the restaurant has already been completely revamped and is now an Italian. The food was excellent and well priced with very good service - bliss!

A lovely surprise!

We booked this hotel for an overnight business stay, and after reading the reviewson Trip Advisor, we were dreading our stay. I am pleased to say that we were taken aback when we arrived, as downstairs showed nothing of what we had read! The restaurant has just been renovated which is lovely and inviting, and the manager informed us that the accommodation was next to be spruced up. The rooms were quite dated, but we could see from downstairs the standard at which the rooms would be brought up to, so we would be very happy to visit again and see how lovely the place has turned out to be! It's wonderfully close to Durham city centre and the train station, and it was very easy to get taxis. Food at the hotel was amazing and excellently priced; moreover the staff were all friendly and welcoming and we were well looked after. The only downside I think is that the new place (La Spada) doesn't reflect the old establishment of the Lambton Hounds Inn; I would get rid of the old Trip Advisor as it is probably letting the new place down enormously! Would thoroughly recommend and would happily visit again!

I stayed for 2 nights bed and breakfast.
I found the owners and staff very warm and welcoming, my case was taken up to my room for me.
It is now under new ownership and they are in the process of refurnishing, the restaurant and bar areas are lovely. I was informed that the onsuite bedrooms will be refurbished in the near future, they are at present comfortable and clean but a little dated, the ensuite has a bath with a shower over it plenty of hot water for a good soak.
The breakfast was lovely and you had plenty of choice, freshly cooked and tea or fresh coffee.
I had eveningears and can only say the food was superb again cooked fresh and decent portion size, the restaurant was full with people waiting in the lounge area which speaks for itself to the quality and service.
I would highly recommend the La-Spada the new name for the Lambed Hound Inn.

After booking this hotel for my work colleagues, they arrived at around 6pm to find the hotel under refurbishment with no recollection of my booking. They were told that the room was still available but there would be no breakfast due the kitchen being closed. They were then shown to the room to find no heating at all in the rooms due to the refurbishment. I think that if the hotel was closed then they should have notified the booking agent to stop people booking at the hotel for the period of time they were refurbishing.

No lobby. Greeted by a barmaid who checked my booking between serving pints. In the room, a bedside light with no powerpoint within reach of the short flex! Room short on power points anyway. in the bathroom, a cracked sink and a shelf under the mirror that was loose and sloped badly.Bed was freshly made, but not more than 5/10 comfortable. Cooked breakfast: meagre. Friendly service though. Would I stay at the LH again? Not if I had a choice!

This was supposed to be 3 stars, but I would rate it 1
The room was very shabby with clean sheets but that is the best thing I can say. There was just one thin pillow and the room was very cold (I slept in my jumper)
We were looking forward to to a full English breakfast, this was available although the portion was small and the bacon was off
I would not go to this hotel again.

the place was very dated, smelt of damp, dirty sheets, there was a hole in the bathroom that a massive spider kept coming out of - had to stick a load of tissue roll in it to stop it coming out, the bathroom door didnt shut. floor wasnt hoovered. The place just looked like it hadnt been decorated or look after since the 1980's. Needs some money to redo it, felt like a student dig, and since i've not long been a student, i know what this is like, I'm not a fussy person, I've stayed in hostels around the world, but this place just felt so unclean.

All that glitters is not gold

poor quality accomodation , needs to be shut down , fully refurbished , a disgrace to its pretentious advertisement., this is like entering a Victorian poorhouse and seems stuck in time.there are no saving graces, attached like an unwelcome appendage to a rather dingy and dimly lit public house .The tapas menu is interesting , snacky but not tea fare. The shake rattle and roll when the upstairs toilet was flushed , an impromptu alarm call left me if not shaken at least fully stirred!! Give this a miss, lived up to the name of the town ie pity me !! I want my money back.

The room was small but charming, in an older building. Not luxurious by any stretch, but exactly what I was looking for and at a good price. My one complaint would be that the street noise was rather loud. The owner was very nice and helpful, and the food at the restaurant was outstanding. I would recommend it to anybody, with the caveat regarding traffic noise.

We had just enjoyed a week's holiday in Scotland and our stay at this pub was to break the return journey. There are probably better rooms at the inn (indeed there were quite a few people at breakfast - maybe their experience was different), but the room reserved for us was so tiny and ill-conceived that my wife, who does not easily get flustered, was reduced to fighting back tears. Other factual detail? There was an 'ensuite', but the sliding door neither fully closed (about a 3cm gap) nor locked. The toilet did not flush on first usage and we had to use a kettle of water to complete the process. The main radiator was buried behind the bed-head - its heating effect was nullified. Breakfast was adequate - cereal and milk, orange juice, coffee and a full English - 1 rasher of bacon, 1 sausage, 1 hash brown, half a slice of fried bread and an egg - there may have been beans also, but we asked for these to be missed off. We could not wait to leave and get home - never felt quite like that before!

One night stay with two friends. Was expecting to stay in a room above the pub area and not in an attached house which required us to go outside to get to room and back. The Inn is just a few minutes drive from the city center, so we decided to stay there as we got a very good deal through expedia, which also included free parking and breakfast. However, upon checking in, the staff wasn't aware about the offer, and said we needed to pay extra for breakfast. We were surprised and when we showed the details of the itinerary he said he would get back to us but didn't bother. So we ended up having breakfast elsewhere. The check-in and check-out times was also very odd.. and also there is no one receiving the phone. Hence, we weren't particularly happy with service, however, we loved hanging out at the Inn's pub, it was very lovely!
