We stayed for 3 nights in the \"FitzRoy\" room with a king size bed, two comfy sofas, in room safe, large bathroom - the best part was the SUPERB view of Lake Argentino. To sit by the window and look out at the end of the day, and in the early morning was so relaxing and beautiful. The staff were very professional and friendly. We ate two dinners at the restaurant onsite and they were both very tasty (the lentil stew was such a comfort food). NOTE: when you stay on the upper floor, their are some stairs at the front (or you have to enter from the back entrance where there are no stairs). The location is on a STEEP HILL, so walking downhill into the city center is no problem, but coming back we used UBER or the hotel shuttle (there is a Fee) which only runs in the evenings (you have to call the hotel on WhatsApp to arrange the shuttle - this process should be made more efficient with set schedules times so that you can plan your day and get back to the hotel.

Beautiful hotel & lake view room overlooking the lovely town of Calafate. A great location for day trips to sights.!We were happy the double was actually a king bed.The front desk staff, Dario & Gabriella, we very helpful. The cleaning staff friendly.The breakfast was varied and a hot, made to order egg dish was available. Too many sweet baked goods for our tastes. Would have enjoyed better bread. There was a private car shuttle offered 7 m - 11 pm but not always available. The walk to town is 10 min but if you have joint problems or limitations in walking it is a difficult uphill hike & often VERY windy.

I stayed here based on the good reviews on Hotels.com. I was not disappointed. The breakfasts are excellent and include cooked to order eggs/omelets and they are well prepared. Everything else is self service. Their coffee is nice and strong. On the hotel description it shows “laundry facility“ which indicated to me that they have a laundry machine room that I could use. However, they only provide laundry service. The price is reasonable, but I prefer to do my own laundry. I recommended they update that description to state “laundry service“ instead. The most memorable part of my stay was the assistance at the front desk. They will exchange foreign currency for a very fair rate and they will book excursions for you, which was very helpful to me. If you want the best of view of the mountains at the distance, then book a “ superior room“ on the website. And finally, this hotel is located a few blocks south of Main Street. It is an easy walk downhill to town, but walking back uphill may be difficult for some. They do offer a reasonably priced shuttle service for several hours each night if you need one. I do recommend this hotel and I will stay here again.

Four/five long blocks to downtown, and I appreciated the walk to and from downtown area. Spacious, clean rooms! Bed was fine - not terrible, not that comfortable. No recycling option in the room or obviously in the property. Extremely limited options for vegan breakfast. Staff was v friendly, and very interested in when I would be out of my room.

Remote hardly worked. Had to climb once from the town below since their shuttle service begins at 7pm and taxis sometimes are nowhere to be found and it is quite a climb for older guests.
However I must say they go out of their way to make you feel at home.

Expedia charged me over $200/night for this hotel in the middle of nowhere. This property certainly isn't worth that kind of money. According to Expedia's website, I should have been able to book it for less than $100/night. When I reached out to Expedia, they gave me every excuse on the book to issue a credit. The hotel is acceptable as long as you're not paying over $200/night, like we did.

Good but not great. Unfortunately a lot of properties in El Calafate probably fall into this category. It’s a short season in a tourist town and they jack up rates to compensate. Rooms not as good as they once were and the location is not ideal. However it’s pretty good, but the price is a bit steep - note that I paid around ISD150 per night for reference.

The hotel was convenient walking distance to restaurants, bars and retail. The hotel restaurant was extremely good and we highly recommend making reservations here. The quality of the food was amazing. The baked goods at breakfast are a must! The hotel offers money exchange which is extremely helpful as currently you can only take out 30,000 pesos from ATM or roughly 35USD.

The property has a beautiful view and is well located if you don't mind staying a 15min walk to town -- although property offers a ride service to main shops/ dining street for a small fee. Rooms are spacious and cozy, bed is comfortable and overall stay was peaceful. The shower area was the only thing that could use a little updating but overall no complaints as water pressure was very good. Staff was also super helpful, and breakfast had a large variety of options. Would highly recommend this place and will be staying again whenever I return to El Calafate.

This place is a few blocks up the hill from the main drag and a nice walk.
Rooms have a great deck and mini bar has cold beer. Bring out a couple of chairs and have a sit. Ibises poked around in the grass and we could kinda see the water.
Lovely breakfast service. This would be a cool place to come with a group of friends, and a romantic place for a couple.

I don’t understand how this is 4 star hotel. And I don’t understand how it can have a guest review above 8. But here we are. First the room is not maintained at all there are scratch marks all around the room. The hot water is only available for two minutes afterwards there is none. And if you tell the reception then they will just say you are wrong.

I booked for two night, and could not stay for even one night. We just left to a different hotel. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else

I cannot believe this property has an excellent rating. This was the worst experience ever. Unfortunately, we needed to find a room last minute and made the mistake to pick La Cantera based on the great reviews.
To start with, the location is pretty bad. The hotel is up on a hill, surrounded by commercial warehouses. It’s only 6 blocks to downtown, but it’s not a nice walk and the hill is very steep. The description of the services stated a free shuttle to downtown. The shuttle is not free. It’s just 300 pesos, but still not free.
Our room was not on the main building. We had a view on a back alley with pretty ugly houses.
The room had a balcony, but there was no point going outside. Overall the hotel is worse than a Motel 6.
But the worst part of the stay was the staff, especially the woman managing the front desk. She was just plain rude. Everything we asked for, was met with a “NO”. She did absolutely nothing to improve the experience. Do yourself a favor and stay at la Posada Los Alamos, which we discovered by walking around downtown. It is lovely, just a block from main street downtown where all the great restaurants are, same price.

Nice property in a quiet, off-the-beaten neighborhood of El Calafate. Rooms are large and comfortable. Beds are good, but so-so. Nice breakfast room. It's just far enough from the center of town to need a taxi to get to town, but the taxis are cheap and available. Tours pick you up at the property. The staff -- one individual really -- was the least friendly and helpful of our entire two-week stay in Argentina. He was OK, but we were just spoiled by how nice everyone is in Argentina, and it was jarring to have someone at the \"front desk\" who seemed to be unhappy doing that job.

Overall, the property and amenities look torn and would need some update. Only one person of the staff was friendly and welcoming, the others let us feel like we were bothering them. The hotel itself is quite rustic and charming. I definitely think it looks better in person than in photos but the true star of the experience is the staff who were all incredibly friendly, helpful, and considerate throughout our stay. Betiana helped us the most but they were all great and we had a wonderful stay in Patagonia thanks to the staff here. They also offer a shuttle/evening taxi service to the main part of town which is only a 10-20 minute walk depending on where you want to go. The only complaint I have is that the room itself was a bit musty and dry. I was mostly fine but woke up at times hot and allergies flared up from time to time.

A bit further out of town and then expected with road construction going on around it (and barking dogs outside our room one night). That said, the room was spacious and had everything we needed.
