This place is TIRED- obviously Angers is a tourist town and probably not a lot of repeat visitors- The decor is cheap and the halls have a red and black theme and look old, poorly done in the first place and just tacky. The towels are gray and thin and in short supply- The bathroom had hot water but not a proper shower (sit in the tub with hand held)- On the good side, it's well located to tour Angers for a couple of days with parking on site. The breakfasts, while boring (with stale hard boiled eggs the only option other than yogurt and bread ) the coffee was very good and the woman working in the breakfast room was friendly (front staff was at times unfriendly) -in all it was a very 'just ok' place that felt kind yucky- would not stay again.

The personnel seemed very pleasant, but the property itself, while certainly clean, seemed \"down at the heels\". We usually stay at 4-star hotels and this one is only a 3-star. It was, however, very reasonably priced and so you have to take some downsides with the upsides.

The staff accommodated our need to leave early the next morning by moving our car to a spot to make it easy to leave. The room and bathroom were extremely small.

We found restaurants but had difficulty finding one where you didn’t need reservations. We had only arrived in town a few hours earlier so had no time to research restaurants. One restaurant manager took pity on us and 3 other parties and we had a great dinner.

Not as good as it should be.

Centrally located and well presented but falls short on a few things, no lift, no tea/coffee, no mini fridge. You have to leave your room key on a board in the foyer where anyone could have access. You have to leave your car key in reception within minutes they had moved our car, if they had wanted it moved I'd have moved it happily, and in times of covid we weren't impressed.
The parking is charged at €12 I think a night.

2 night stop in Angers

Nice hotel with friendly staff. Courtyard used for onsite parking. Really close to main square and all Angers attractions well within walking distance. On a quiet road with no noise from the lively town square just 3 mins walk away. Decor in the room was quirky and fun.
The water pressure was a little low and it took quite a while to get hot in the shower but overall a good bathroom. Worth noting the property does not have a lift so some people may struggle to get their bags up the spiral stairs to the rooms although not a problem for us. We would gladly return if in Angers again.

Great hotel in the centre of Angers

Room 1 was fantastic, very large and very clean. It’s clearly the modernised part of the hotel and we had our own entrance without needing to go through the hotel We were greeted on arrival and directed where to park our car . All staff were lovely throughout our stay. We didn’t have breakfast but I thought the room was great value for money .

The Hotel du Mail is on a quiet lane just off a busy main street of Angers. It's an updated 19th century mansion with lots of detail and charm including a grand staircase. The room I stayed in looks to have been recently decorated and was very attractive. The new, modern bathroom was more functional than charming but had a good shower. The Wifi signal was excellent. The hotel staff were helpful and welcoming and offered a nice breakfast. I would certainly stay here again for its comfort and that it is a 12 minute walk from Angers St Laud train station.

Lovely hotel close to all places of interest.

We were warmly welcomed at the Hotel, an Independent hotel in the town centre - with parking at a few euros a night (behind locked gates at night). Although no tea/coffee making facilities were available in our room, the Propriator was happy to make us coffee. An optional Continental buffet breakfast was served in the morning which set us up nicely for all the sightseeing and walking we had planned for the day.
We arrived during the Festival weekend - this year's theme being all things British. Union Jacks flying over the town streets, the whole town was in festive mood and the street entertainment was really amusing. There was a detailed programme of all the events planned for the weekend, music, concerts, etc. something for everyone of all ages. As for the town, it was a pleasure to visit - everyone was welcoming - the Chateau, the Musee des Beaux Arts, all the places of interest. We would recommend a stay at this hotel and to this interesting town. A BIG thank you to the Propriator and staff at the Hotel du Mail.

Angers is a wonderful town--the hotel was in the perfect location. the big garden was delightful. the tapestry museum and 4 star. and the chateaux was great. such a wonderful walkable town. However, they must give customer instructions how to use the shower.

pleasant, friendly hotel

Our ground floor room was very pleasant and spacious, much bigger than an upper level room occupied by our travelling companions. The bathroom had been very recently renovated and the shower was wonderful. The front desk was very friendly.

The breakfast room had a nice ambience and a well-presented buffet offering a variety of breads, pastries, fruits, cheeses, jams, cereals and more.

On the down side, the pillows were small and lumpy, but I am fussy about pillows. Our travelling companions didn't mind.

I had some trouble sleeping due to noise and lights in the courtyards but later realized there were shutters that could be closed by pressing a button!

The room does not have a safe or coffee and tea facilities.

My wife and I had a 1 night stay at Hotel du Mail in September. Very friendly staff member at reception. Hotel has a cool historical vibe with crunchy-gravel courtyard where parking is available if you arrive with a car (gravel can be a little noisy when people walk/cars drive on). Room was large with high ceilings and even a fireplace...very clean and spacious. Bathroom was renovated but only complaint is that you needed to take a squat shower in the bathtub since there was no shower curtain (handheld shower head)...or just take a bath. Overall a nice stay. Some renovation work is ongoing but did not bother us. Would stay again.

Nice old building in a quiet street, off a quiet street withing walking distance of the sights. Rather over efficient welcome - a long list of instructions. The charming building is let down by the shabby interior. The room was 'Superior' but tiny and very worn: old furniture, terrible bed, not proper pillows, 3/4 bath with shower -head Very nice large windows and view of the courtyard
Breakfast was not worth it. Cramped room. No ham and mini-packaged cheeses (Baby Bel etc). Good fresh fruit salad though suggest you get breakfast elsewhere.

Good hotel in old building of some character. Stairs and corridor to my room were a bit shabby, but apparently refurbishment is due shortly in this wing. Inside the room was fine. Excellent continental breakfast is €11 extra.
Two good restaurants nearby, both mid-price, are Joe Carpa in Boulevard Foch and Provence Caffe in Place du Ralliement.

This is a family run business and it feels like it: the staff are friendly, helpful, pleasant and happy to see you!
The location could not be better for a city break in Angers. The main square is a two minute walk away yet the hotel feels quiet and secluded. All the main attractions are within easy walking distance.
The breakfast is by far the best continental breakfast I have ever had. Eleven euros may seem at the top end but it is value for money if you like a substantial and good quality breakfast. Plus it will cost you at least that for just a coffee and croissant at the cafés in the centre of town.
The room was clean and sufficient for our three night stay, and the shower was powerful and roomy despite being on the top floor of this beautiful old building.
I would definitely stay here again if I returned to Angers.

Pros and cons

The hotel setting and courtyard are lovely. Once you negotiate the one way system, parking is at the hotel but is not free, €9 per day but is secure. It is also close to the centre of town. Inside the hotel the furnishings are quite worn and not in a shabby chic way. A lot more thought could have gone into furnishing but the furniture in our room was a mixture of old and cheap modern. The tissue holder in the bathroom fell off the wall as soon as I took a tissue from it and the holder for the shower hose was broken. However the room was big and the large French window and shutters gave the room a nice airy feel. The bed was big and comfy and the breakfast very good.

Ideally situated for visiting the city of Angers - only afew minutes walk to the centre. Staff were extremely helpful and there was a very good continental breakfast. Our bedroom was unfortunately on the second floor and no lift and the room was a little disappointing for a superior grading. However we understand the rooms are being refurbished. We will certainly use this hotel again.

We drove to Angers and were happy to use the parking at the hotel. There is limited space, so in high season just ask if there is parking available. Staff are very friendly and helpful, they made us feel really welcome. The rooms are comfy and the bathroom was clean. The breakfast was additional, but the price was reasonable and the food was delicious. Great location at walking distance to most interest sites. Overall a great stay.

L'hôtel est idéalement placé près du centre historique. S'il est un peu vieillot, il a beaucoup de charme.
Le personnel est très accueillant et sympathique.
Le petit déjeuner ne propose pas une immense variété de produits, mais largement bien assez, et surtout avec des produits excellents.
Enfin, le service: notre véhicule était en panne en partant de l'hôtel; le personnel nous a offert un café et des viennoiseries en attendant le dépanneur.

Nous avons été déçu par la chambre par rapport au site qui a motivé notre choix contre les grande chaîne à prix égal
La chambre était froide et sentait l humidité. Il y avait un chauffage mais pas allumé depuis longtemps.Attention à l energie ok mais quand une chambre est louée sous les toits en décembre il faut anticipé un minimum pour le confort du client. Nous avons eu froid dans la nuit malgré une couette et une couverture. La salle de bain n était pas chauffée non plus. petit déjeuner il n y avait pas de thé en sachet, en feuille mais pas de théière. On a réclamé des sachets mais le personnel ne les a pas trouvé. pas de coquetier pour les œufs. Ayant travaillé dans le tourisme et pour Marriott j ai tendance à favoriser les petits hôtels indépendants.

Its a traditional hotel with some old forgotton procedures. Handwritten invoices etc. The receptionist informed me that I obligated have to give up my car keys (rental car) even though thats against the rental agreement or find another place. It did not feel inviting or comfortable which was partly do to the language barier.

The Room keys are traditional old keys which they advise to leave behind but I other guests can then enter your room so I decided to keep it with me.

Overall the hotel is in good condition, basic but clean rooms and a good breakfast. The location is great and it looks green, well maintained and good condition.

Sehr schönes altes Haus, Inneneinrichtung interessant bis hübsch, sehr freundliches und hilfreiches Team, gutes Frühstücksbuffer. Achtung , kein Lift! Sehr zentral und doch ruhig.

Hotel situé dans un bâtiment ancien, au coeur d Angers,magnifiquement restauré et impeccablement entretenu, les chambres à la décoration personnalisée sont trés belles,tout comme les sdb ,propreté impeccable, accueil professionnel et sympathique, petit déjeuner délicieux,petit plus,le parking sur place.
