Perfect for a quiet getaway. Property is huge so youre never really troubled by crowds or noise. Plenty of pools, beaches and open spaces for privacy. Sunsets are gorgeous. Staff are ever helpful. On site dining options are limited - can be a bit of a bother if you dont drive.

Great Stay in Brunei

Decided to treat myself to an overnight stay in The Empire and what a fabulous experience. I was upgraded on arrival and had a fabulous room with a large bathtub and sea views. The room was very comfortable and the bed was heavenly. Sitting by the pool was a beautiful experience but remember to bring bug spray! Breakfast was fantastic and overall the experience was just wonderful.

Overall excellent for a hotel that's now a few years old. Generally very well maintained but as it appears to be low season they had some maintenance going on while I was there - did not affect my experience but I did notice it a few places when I was exploring.

Rooms are spacious, tons of closet space, bathrooms equally spacious. And the main building is beautiful inside, still stylish outside. Lots of swimming pools too.

Main quirk was the bathroom lights are motion sensor only and turn off automatically, there's a sign saying close the bathroom door if this bothers you.

Great Hotel with great views and activities

Absolutely lovely property. The rooms are very spacious. The bathroom is remarkable with nice tiles with a bath and a shower. The room have plenty of space and the amenities are great. The property have a Country Club Golf course Spa Movies Bowling and several Restaurants. A nice Lagoon for swimming. You won't be disappointed at this place. Customer service is top tier.

LOVELY staff! Huge room w/a gorgeous balcony. The drapes were long enough, but not nearly wide enough to actually make the room DARK, so that was frustrating. The food wasn't great. Not bad, and again the service almost made up for it, but nothing was fantastic. Must say that the place was far more than 1/2 empty which made actually sitting at the pool DELIGHTFUL!

Overall this is a lovely place to stay and relax. The grounds are well looked after and swimming pools lovely. This place is NOT walking distance to anything; however, does have restaurants, cafe, and a country club. Definitely worth staying at least a night as the views are beautiful and main lobby/foyer is impressive. Unfortunately our stay was less than great due to no hot water in our room (yes we notified staff). Normally i would just manage and only mention it due to the price.

I mostly like here staff service and food. Some facilities like transportation are excellent but sports are not enough and you have to concentrate towards sports maintenance and overall I enjoy my one week alone in this hotel and it means if I enjoy alone then if you have friends then you will find in heaven. This hotel can only be described as one of a kind! Total opulence and designed to be so with all the trimmings you would expect from Brunei.

The only thing that was strange was the fact that the entire hotel was completely empty! Staff were great, the grounds were amazing, but no people. Not all of the restaurants were open, but we did manage to find some basic meals. With the help of the front desk we arranged for a car and driver and toured around the small county in comfort. But no people?

Maybe it was the time of year? This resort did provide a great base for our limited time in Brunei and if we ever go back again, we would stay here again. Hopefully the resort is a little more busy?

The property is in a poor condition. The hot water in our room was muddy and green in color and the staff couldn’t do anything over two days after after several complaints. They tried to find silly excuses to evade the problem. The balcony was dirty . For a five star hotel with high rate, this has been a terrible experience. The director of operations finally appeared and apologized and offered a complimentary room for future stay. Not sure it is worth another try.

I had great expectations for this hotel and they fell flat because despite the staff being very friendly, the hotel has no soul (pretty much like Brunei itself), and in addition to that with the prices one pays you would expect outstanding service which is NOWHERE. E.g. turn down service? a scale in the bathroom BUT even more importantly warning the guest near the beach that the place is infested with sand flies (three days after i am still enduring the itchiness of the bites all over me). The limited internet is also a nuisance and the shuttle to BSB and the airport should be free considering the remoteness of the hotel. Tours and the shops should be linked to the room account considering there is no ATM in the premises. In the positive side i did love the free little sweat treats included in my room service orders.

Magnificent Resort style hotel

Super stay, couldn’t fault it from welcoming arrival to managing a late check out. Buffet breakfast & buffet dinner in hotel grounds both excellent. Walking the grounds & swimming in a pool that went on forever gave us exercise without resorting to all the other facilities on offer! Definitely a highlight of our holiday.

The quality of hotel and service are usually mentioned by others, but I think friendliness of hotel employees are so great. They looked all happy and friendly to anybody in the hotel. Of course, hotel room was great even though it's lowest price room. Very spacious room & bath. You can see the South China sea while taking a bath. Every day they provide free mini bar drink & snack. 3 different swimming pools are available for kids, adults, and kayak. I used hotel buffet, Italian, Chinese restaurant, food was all good and prices were not too expensive. We could use not just golf course, but also basketball, tennis court, and many more indoor & outdoor sports. One other fun is to use cart to move around the hotel. Except that we couldn't drink alcohol, this hotel provides better value for the money than any other luxury hotel I've experienced. Best for golf lovers.

Think of what you would expect in a royal palace and that is what you get. Not surprising really as that was the original purpose of this estate.
The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and couldn't do too mush for you without being 'in you face' all the time.
Facilities were amazing and the hotel restaurant food perfect. The teppanyaki perfect and the duck was so sweet and just fell off the bone.
Really I can not say enough good things about this hotel. Try it for yourself is all I can say.

Perfect getaway weekend!

We spent 3 nights in this 5-star hotel, and do not regret it!
There is an overall feeling of refinement on the whole resort: the lavish decoration of the main building, the quality of all the materials used, the carefully detailed decoration and furbishment of all the interiors, the impeccably well maintained outdoor spaces and stunning swimming pools.
The check-in was done in the main building, after which we were taken in an electrical buggy to our building.
Our room was located in the the building #5, called \"Lagoon\", on the third floor. It was spacious, with a big king bed and all the usual amenities: kettle, tea and coffee. The mini-bar is complementary and refilled everyday with Fanta, Pepsi and Coke Light. They also provide 4 bottles of water everyday. We were impressed with the quality of the furniture and the overall attention to the details. The bathroom was also huge. There was also an enjoyable balcony, but quite noisy due to the air conditioner system of the main building.
The whole staff was very friendly and talkative and yet professional.
We requested transfers from and to the airport, which were provided in clean cars, driven by friendly and careful drivers.

For a few days of luxury you can not go past the Empire Hotel. I was looking for just a few days of relaxation by the beach and this delivered in spades. The pool / beach facilities are first class. It may have just been the time of year but there were very few other persons about which added to the relaxing feel. The rooms were also first rate, and again were very quiet and well serviced and maintained. Staff could not have been more helpful, in particular check out staff and were a credit to the hotel. For a similar type of holiday, I will definitely return.

A welcome with iced melon juice in the extraordinarily grand lobby set the tone for our stay. Our rooms were luxurious and the beds very comfortable. Service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed touring the grounds and swimming in the many pools. It was a great stopover for us on a long flight.

Lots of choices for food and superb pool complex. Staff are excellent with absolutely everything. A great place to relax. Not that central for business in Brunei but no more than 20 mins away so easy to use.

First room was flooded from a water leak in the ceiling and the decor was quite outdated. The room phone kept ringing for 20mins with no one on the line and i ended up unplugging it at the wall. Was given another room which was completely different from the first and was the same quality as the rest of the hotel. Staff were very freindly and helpful. The buffet was top class , breakfast was ok but nothing special. The grounds of this hotel and the main wing are beautiful, especially at sunset.

A Palace you can afford to stay in!

The Sultan of Brunei's brother, Prince Jefri, once owned the Empire Hotel and Country Club.Unfortunately Prince Jefri misappropriated 15 billion dollars of Government money and so the Sultan confiscated the palace and kicked Prince Jefri out of the country for 10 years and the Palace was turned into a 5* Hotel and Country Club.
My husband and I had 4 days at the Hotel but what an experience. Our transfer from the airport went smoothly and the check-in at the desk was warm and inviting. We were swiftly escorted to our room where we stood and gazed at the floor to ceiling Italian marble bathroom, the intricate 100% merino wool carpet and snow white Egyptian cotton sheets.
The Hotel has International restaurants including Japanese, Italian and Asian to choose from with prices starting from $17.90 for 3 course meal at Spaghettini.
Rooms or villas are available. Our room was $250 AUS per night but if you want to stay in the room that Bill Clinton stayed in it will cost you $15,000 USA per night.
The Sultan still maintains a Villa on premise and he stayed on site while we were there.
The Country Club features an 8 lane Bowling Alley, 2 squash courts, 2 badminton courts, indoor swimming pool, 3 snooker tables, 1 billiard table, basket ball court and table tennis court. I indulged in the spa treatments while my husband played golf on the jack Nicklaus designed Golf Course.
Our stay was also complimented by exclusive buggy tours around the complex and a sneeky tour of the West Wing.

Private perfection at resplendent resort.

I was there during Ramadan and the upside was that I had all of the pools to myself and none of my photos had a soul in them. Swimming alone in all that water surrounded by so much to see was great, like it was my own private resort. Downside was lack of food and beverages allowed or available due to the time of fasting. However, it didn't sour my stay at all...I probably would go in Ramadan again, just for the privacy!

Stayed at the Empire Hotel for a short holiday in Brunei. First impressions as you enter the grounds and then the foyer are overwhelming. This feeling is repeated as you discover new areas including the pool area. However the most impressive thing about the Empire is the staff- always helpful, generous and constantly offering their assistance. Although we were not satisfied with the first room we were provided, the staff were very helpful in finding a more suitable room. It appeared to be quiet so dining in was somewhat lonely but still enjoyable.
The restaurants are more focused on western-style cuisine presumably to provide a different dining experience for guests from regional areas. There is as Asian style buffet but buffet dining is not our thing. The Japanese restaurant (Zen) was our favourite.
Our only criticism relates to the air-conditioning - inside the hotel including our room was unpleasantly cold.

The resort is lovety however several restaurants were closed and is was expensive to travel away from the resort to get a meal which meant you had to eat inhouse. It would have been good a have a shuttle bus into town.

Great hotel with superb facilities

Fantastic hotel, good rooms, good facilities, amazing golf course, but the staff need some training as accuracy levels are poor and the check-out process was terrible, including errors on my credit card billing.

Deserted desolate hotel

The hotel was a former palace. It has the \"wow\" factor but that wears off in half an hour. The hotel has very few customers. It is desolate and deserted. The hotel has 500 rooms and we were told it has never been full. The maximum occupancy rate in its 15 year life was 70% for an Amway conference 3 years ago. The 70 seat top class Italian restaurant gats about 5 customers per night.

The good thing!!! It has a world class golf course but no-one uses it!!! and the cost is expensive -$AUS130 for 18 holes.

Very nice hotel but lack of proper maintenance.

Very nice and grand hotel but lack of proper maintenance. The pool is too large, algae are growing and it needed to be cleaned desperately. Rooms are on many separate buildings and they are far away from the main building even though buggy is available to shuttle guests around. This is where large is overrated.
