The manor itself is absolutely beautiful, decorated with elegant antiques that perfectly capture the charm and authenticity of the 1860s. It truly feels like stepping back in time, yet with every modern comfort. The Gettysburg Room was especially lovely—the spacious layout and the comfortable soaking tub were a perfect touch after a long day of touring the battlefields.
Breakfast each morning was excellent, freshly prepared, and served in a gracious, period-style dining room. Innkeeper John and his family were warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable about both the manor and Gettysburg’s history, adding an extra layer of richness to our stay.
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Swope Manor is a true gem, and we look forward to returning on our next visit to Gettysburg!

The staff was very nice and the breakfast was also very nice. The overall condition of the house and decor was also quite nice. The shower valve was very hard to turn. The window latch was broken so we could not get fresh air. Our particular room was located next to the back door and patio, which made it a little noisy.

We have a 10 month old who is just starting to eat solids, so they were kind enough to cut up fruit into very small bites for him, we didn’t even ask them to do that, the staff is just that kind and helpful.

The Swope Manor was everything we hoped for, including location, cleanliness, food quality, and courteous service. The mansion is great to stay in, and its central location makes it perfect for exploring. If I get back to Gettysburg, I'm staying at The Swope Manor.

The building itself is old and has a lot of beautiful furniture. Our rooom was clean and inn keeper was friendly when we checked in. The overall experience was disappointing. Our room was in the front of the building and there was traffic noise all night long. The shutters on the windows were old and warped. They were hard to close and did not totally block the light from outside. There were no curtains.
There was no closet in the room and only 4 hooks on a wall for use.. Old extension cords held multiple items plugged in and I wondered if they were a fire hazard. There were no side tables next to the chair or love seat in the room, nowhere to put down a drink, etc. Plugging in cell phones,etc. to charge was challenging. A designated charging station would have been appreciated. The televison did not work correctly and there were no instruction on what to push on the remote to get a display.
The bathroom was very pretty. The shower head was very nice and we enjoyed the bodyjets. The room was advertised as having a steam shower, it was not working at the time of our stay. The innkeeper never mentioned it.
The towels reeked of fabric softener.
When they say breakfast is served at 8:30, believe them. I anticpated a longer window of time with breakfast items available. Other B & B’s we have stayed at serve breakfast for at least 1 1/2-2 hour. Be there at 8:30! Along with a small muffin there was a small bowl of fruit. There are no additional continental

I don’t have enough words to describe just how beautiful this gorgeous bed and breakfast manor really is! Our room was elegantly decorated with antiques throughout and yet it was inviting and comfortable! The bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub as well as a shower! There weren’t many other guests so we checked out the other rooms and all were just as amazing! The breakfasts were just brilliant! We felt completely pampered! I look forward to a return visit!

Our stay at The Swope Manor was magnificent! What’s a COMFORTABLE BED! Have not been that rested, comfortable and slept as late in years! Breakfast was delectable, with fresh fruit, French toast and sausages that left us ready to tackle the day. The property is beautifully maintained, with each room lovingly appointed, and again…THE BED (chefs kiss). We have an EV, so driving down from NY we were a bit concerned with keeping her battery full, but there was a charging station in the public parking garage right behind the property. The very convenient location of the manor made it possible for us to walk to the shops, restaurants and bars; necessitating driving only when touring the battlefields. The proprietors have thought of everything to make guests feel welcome and we would be thrilled to stay there again and again!

One nice touch was the historian who came on Saturday morning at breakfast and gave us some great history of the home and location.
We stayed in the Cabernet which was on the second floor at the back of the building. No rooms above and an additional entrance right around the corner. We looked at all of the rooms and all were spacious.
My only “complaint” would be the noise. They are located a block from a fire station and train tracks. I was also surprised at how busy and loud the “main” road was. Not their fault and nothing they can do, I always travel with earplugs and a white noise machine so that helped.
I would gladly return and plan to next year!

Very disappointed
The first night we got into the bed and it broke. We slept in it because there was no one around to correct the situation and it was late. When I told the manager the next day he said they were aware it needed to be fixed but had not had time to do it. When we came back to the room later that day the clean up was poor and there were pieces of metal on the floor. The next day we did not receive any room cleaning service at all. It was never disclosed before hand that parking was a good distance from the B and B and that it was $12 a day. I asked for an adjustment in the price of the room and received a $150 credit for a room that cost $259 a night. Also the room was on the street side and there was noisy traffic all night.

Our stay was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and informative. The B&B had a lot of extra touches. They really catered to their guest with a welcome glass of wine and comfortable sitting rooms. Breakfast was wonderful. The guest entrance was in the back of the house and our room, the Longstreet was right there so we heard guests coming and going. They need to replace back door lighting. It was very dark. In warmer weather there is a nice yard and outdoor seating area.

We enjoyed our short stay. Lovely home, excellent breakfast, great location. One issue: the 2 rooms on the first floor are next to the door that all guests are asked to use to come and go. That was very noisy. I would consider staying again but not on the first floor.

First B&B stay in Gettysburg
My husband, daughter and I stayed one night at the Swope Manor. We made a stop in Gettysburg on our way to Philadelphia. It was our first visit to Gettysburg. The town is quaint, safe, clean and has wonderful character. It was also our first stay at a bed & breakfast. The B&B is right in the heart of town and is walking distance to tons of things to do. The Swope Manor was exactly what I expected esthetically. The rooms and decor were unique. It wasn’t very full the night we were there so they let us check out all the available rooms. Unfortunately, I’m assuming because it wasn’t very full, the owner worked most of the day replacing deck boards and trying to reinforce it. There was caution tape surrounding the entire deck so guests were unable to utilize it. The weather was wonderful and I would have liked to have my complimentary glass of wine and or my morning coffee on one of the chairs on the deck. We checked in a little after 3:00. Our room was located right next to the deck. If we opened our window all we saw were men working on the deck. In addition to our unusual view, there was constant pounding, drilling and other noise associated with their work. They were working on the deck when we left for dinner around 6:00 pm. They were still working on the deck when we returned. The noise continued until around 8:30 pm. In my opinion, they should not have had guests stay while these repairs were being completed. It ruined the ambiance of an otherwise beautiful B&B.

The only downside (unavoidable due to location) is having to navigate the parking garage and finding your way to the property from there (was particularly difficult for us due to our later in the evening arrival). Probably the best lodging experience I've ever had. The staff went waayy above and beyond. Breakfast every morning was great and was more than helpful in suggesting places to eat and attractions. Also wanted to mention that my gf informed them on our first moning that she didnt ear pork and best believe they had turkey products there the next morning. We're ready making plans to come back.

The home was beautifully restored and immaculately clean. The beds were comfy and the showers worked well. One could walk everywhere, as it’s in the center of town. Very friendly staff, too. They even offered a glass of wine at check-in, which was very appreciated after a long day of travel. I highly recommend this place.
