It was a fabulous stay and good value for money. The staff were excellent and responded when i ask questions online instantly, so helpful, i can't fault that. I had the best sleeps in a long time and was perfectly central enough to get around without being 'too' central if you know what i mean. Would definately recommend it and stay there again. Thanks

This hotel should not call itself ‘boutique’ - it is basic and very tired and shabby. Our room was grubby - dirt around the edges of the room, wallpaper peeling, grime on the walls, someone else’s rubbish under the bed. The shower looked good but flooded the bathroom every time. The room was cramped and the furniture was very worn and damaged. One of our towels was so thin in places you could see through it whilst the other had a rip in it. Staff at the small reception desk were pleasant and apologetic but seemingly unable to make any changes.

Location was good. Room was tiny and backed on to the lift, so was noisy when the lift was in use. No traffic noise. Bed was saggy on one side. Staff were friendly enough but didn’t go out of their way. No service done in a 4 night stay.

This was an excellent value for my stay. It’s a short walk (4 minutes) to the more touristy areas. Super accessible to trams. The room was a bit small - but I was alone and had no issues.
My one area of concern was the shower floor wasn’t separate from the rest of the bathroom - and there was no slope - so water got everywhere in the bathroom. Also - no ledge or shelf to put soap/shampoo in the shower. Lastly, the shower head in the ceiling didn’t work - but the handheld wand did - and the water was nice & hot. I would stay again - it’s so convenient & really got a great price.

Good location. Poorly lit room, bathroom design silly, with the loo situated halfway under the wash basin. No shelves to put your toothbrush and cosmetics on. Lots of dust and debris between mattress and headboard!

The shower head in the room could use descaling. The output was very poor from the ceiling shower head. The handheld one was great.

The bed topper was thin, but wasn’t unbearable. For a solo trip, great option. Would stay again. Great price for the area.

Great location, helpful staff

Another excellent stay at Sara. Very friendly, helpful staff, great location close to museum quarter. Single room was spacious by Amsterdam standards. Only drawback was unusually uncomfortable mattress which resulted in a disrupted sleep on first night. Management may wish to invest in new mattresses. But, overall, very positive experience on my fifth or sixth stay in Sara Boutique hotel.

Great location but room needs an upgrade!

We stayed for a couple of nights and whilst the location was great it was not a pleasant room to stay in. From the broken toilet seat and dirty bowl, to the stained bedsheets and towels, the room needed a much needed clean and upgrade to the dusty, old and stained furniture. The room could benefit from a mini fridge, basic shower amenities and better sound proofing. We could hear outside very clearly with noisy people until the early hours of the morning and neighbours too. Worth mentioning the stairs are incredibly steep and the lift very slow so not a safe option for navigating even when the fire alarm went off at 9am and we were on the top floor!

Advertised with AC but there was none. We’re 78 years old and the elevator was non functioning when leaving the 4th floor. The stairway was extremely steep and narrow for older people. An enormous mouse, or small rat was found in front of one door. The location was very good however.

Found broken pieces of glass in my room. No fan or A/C made it very uncomfortable to stay in, especially when trying to sleep. The floor was rough and uncomfortable. Convenient and affordable. Room has no AC and smelled like a pool, the only real downfall was the no AC. I was drenched. It felt like they were pumping hot air in forever and ever. Not ideal for hot sleepers. All they need is an AC and this would be a prime spot. Other than that it was great for our stay, easily walkable to the city and convenient 3 min walk to tram.

This is no BOUTIQUE hotel. I was kept up most of the night by people making noise in the hall and on the stairs. The bed was old and worn out. I had to use one of the ancient pillows behind my back so I wouldn't roll out. There were ladies clothing in the closet. Yuk!
However the bathroom was new and clean.
And I had to walk down one flight of stairs to make the elevator work.
Unacceptable.

Hotel in good location close to leinespliene for trams Lidl nearby and nice sandwich pastry shop across rd for breakfast. Room basic. Toilet not v clean. I used anti bacterial wipes on handles sink and tv remote. Bed comfy sheets and towels clean. Lift noisy but no one moving around between midnight and 8 so slept well. English tv channels a bonus. No te and coffee facilities a shame. Coffee can be bought from reception staff. All staff pleasant. Was surprised by £50 deposit in addition to tourist tax but got it back in 2 days after checkout. I would not at all recommend this hotel even if it were free of cost. You can pick any category and they have failed miserably, except location but that does not make up for poorest form of hospitality, cleanliness, room condition, service and anything thay defines a hotel.

This place is dangerously dirty. Hotels.com knows this and STILL carries availability. Parts of my room weren't cleaned for MONTHS. After a \"deep clean\", the room was still dirty. Management and hotels.com fed me with optimism. An upgraded room was \"being cleaned\". I con only imagine how dirty it was, as that offer NEVER materialized. Towels and duvet cover had HOLES. UNBELIEVABLE.
I finally checked out a day early. The peeling wallpaper in the halls revealed what looked and smelled like mold/mildew. The \"laptop safe\"??? not bolted to ANYTHING and no batteries. Bring your own??? Seriously???
Then, the \"resolution team\" decides I got value by staying there and offered a 20% refund. Which is not really a refund, it's one key cash.
Hotels says they're going to audit. Sure, it's a week and this place is still for sale on their site.

The manager was nice to let us check in early. The room was tidy but didn’t feel clean. The decor is old and desperately needs renovation…even a fresh coat of paint would help. The shower did not have a curtain or doors to close so water got on the floor. The location is good so it has potential to be a great little hotel with Amsterdam charm.

We went for two nights.
There were dirty/ used towels left in the wardrobe.
The wall paper was all ripped.
There was no shower screen, so the shower would fill the bathroom with water.
It is very loud if there are people in the room above and loads of banging.
The bed was extremely comfy, and there is potential if those changes got made. It is a big enough room!

On arrival the place looks nice from the outside but inside is a joke. At some point they have had a leak and its made the wallpapper in the hallways peal and some spots of black mould.
The 1st room i was put in was gross, dirty sheets, no carpet on the floors and the flooring was dirty with dust gathered in the grooves. Not to mention the layer of dust over the entire room, the limescale all over the shower heads and someone had picked their nose and wiped it on the window frame also where the leak was in the hallway the wall connected had bubbled pealing paint. When asked to move to another room i was moved i to the room above, it was slightly cleaner. Dust layer over everything, bed sheets still unclean and bathroom while nicer than the other room was not worth the price of the stay. The hostel- because thats what it is, also required a €50 deposit which gets refunded when you check out.
Staff while friendly were useless to fix any issues. It felt like having a bad landlord who thinks a paint job is a repair. There is a tv- but doesnt work, there is heating but too 3hrs to warm up and then sounded like a trickling stream the entire time.
Location is great but this place should be taking no more bookings before its repaired and up to code. The black mould alone should take it out of commission.

Yes this hotel could do with a refresh but the location is perfect. The staff are helpful and it is an ideal place to stay if you just want a bed for the night and a decent shower. Lift is slow but works. We walked to all of the attractions and shops. Restaurants close by, sandwich shop over the road. Definitely served its purpose for a long weekend away. I was worried by others reviews but honestly there is nothing to worry about. I would recommend this hotel.

The staff were friendly and helpful but this hotel is in desperate need of a deep cleaning or a fresh coat of paint. I stayed in a single room near the elevator that the hotel acknowledge is the slowest in Amsterdam. The room is very small but served my purpose. The twin bed was comfortable but the topper kept slipping off the bed. The sheets and towels had stains and were dingy grey. The shower had good pressure but flooded the bathroom every time you used it. The toilet is so close to the sink that you could sit on toilet and brush your teeth- not that would want too but it’s the best way to describe it. My room had strange brown smears on the wall and the wall paper was ripped and peeling off. The hotel has cats running around which didn’t bother me but if you have allergies be aware. Location is convenient to trams and museum district. Neighborhood is quiet.

The room was not super clean (my sheets had stains), and the walls desperately needed a fresh coat of paint.

I was very aprehensive about staying here after reading the reviews but it is nowhere near as bad as people make out. Staff were very friendly and on hand 24/7, we were on the first floor so didn't use the lift much but it wasn't as slow as expected and we didn't hear it during the night at all.

The location of the hotel is great, it's close enough to the centre to be walking distance, but far enough away to get a good nights sleep. We stayed for a week, including on a Friday and Saturday night, and slept with the window open with minimal noise issues. There are a handful of shops and restaurants just a few minutes walk away.

Was it dirty? No. Did the paint need a freshen up? Yes, but it does not affect your stay at all. The double bed was massive and SO comfortable. The room and bathroom were both decent sizes. The shower doesn't have a door or curtain so some water does go a little around the bathroom but put the mat down that they provide and be a little careful and its not an issue.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and would stay here again. It's a great budget hotel and nowhere near as bad as people make out.

After reading the reviews I was hesitant about my stay at this property. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The location of the hotel was perfect, only 30 min walk till you’re in the city centre. The hotel has bikes to hire as well as numbers for taxis etc. The room was satisfactory for the price you pay. The balcony was lovely, the TV had Netflix & Prime available. The bed was comfy. Big bathroom and mirrors. 24 hour reception was perfect. You cannot go wrong for the price.

The only criticism, would be there was no soup/toilet roll, however we did get some after asking.

Overall, the reviews are not accurate and the hotel is perfect for a budget stay.

A small but functional room. The thin mattress kept slipping off the wooden base, and the shower oddly had no curtain or door, so the water would spread out into the bathroom and the room itself. But the floor was made of a material that eventually absorbed the water. The elevator is indeed the slowest and loudest I’ve experienced (as advertised) but the room is reasonably priced, the location is great, in walking distance from the van Gogh and Rijksmuseum, and near several good restaurants. The staff is nice and the front door stays open throughout the night.

Room 17 is not a room I would recommend to anyone taller than 5'4 or over 140 lbs, you simply won't be able to maneuver in the bathroom. The window can't open because the cubbard is in front of it. The head of the bed is against the loud elevator wall. The stairs are whimsical yet treaturous. Staff were friendly and helpful.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. This is a warning to all potential guests to steer clear of this hotel. Do not believe the Expedia average review of 7 out of 10 stars. The room will only be cleaned if you demand in advance, you will be charged fees for requesting fresh towels (which their resident cat lies on all day - hello allergies!), and the amount of audible noise from other guests (because it's an \"old building\") is insufferable. The towels, bedsheets, wallpaper, etc etc is in such a state of disrepair it's disgraceful this place still makes money.

The person at the reception was not knowledgeable about the city. To the point he couldn’t even point in the map where we were. He insisted I used Google Maps to find my was around, even when I told him I had no data in my phone. There is NO AC in the rooms, and the little fan they provide brings no comfort from the heat whatsoever. It’s twice as hot and humid inside the room as it is outside. It was hard to try to sleep being so hot. On top of that, they wouldn’t inform their guests in advance that I there is a very loud construction going on right next to it. I was trying to rest after a long day of work before my flight, and I was awaken at 6 am but the tremendous construction noises. Therefore, I was unable to rest in the room I booked to be able to rest. Their lift is indeed the slowest one in all Amsterdam as they themselves acknowledge in a funny way. That is no problem, but the key card to my room didn’t work, so I had to go up and down in that slow elevator many times, which wasted a significant amount of time. To top this up, the key card never worked, and the door handle was broken, so they had to give me an old-fashion key to be able to access the room. I guess the flip side of the key not working is that I can be sure no one could enter my room.

The location is quite comfortable and in a walkable distance to the main attractions. The outside of the hotel is not bad but the entrance is very dirty, the rooms are dusty, showers are not very functional as you will flood the floor. Rooms are spacious but the forniture not arranged properly as you will have to jump over the bed to reach the balcony.

Really great service, nice and attentive man, but there was no hot water in the morning, found out at 10:30am and was a little late to go and speak to someone as checkout is 11am. The soundproofing is non existent, we was in room 1 right by the door, and you can hear every whisper from the office next door along with upstairs sadly.
Room was okay, but run down, but can’t complain for the price apart from that. Good stay just disappointed it could have been so much better! Probably won’t come back until renovations take place sadly. 7/10

Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Room #3 was nice but needs up-keeping and maintenance, especially the bathroom. The overhead shower has bubbles in the ceiling and the water comes out uneven. It is a walk in shower and there is not enough inclination on the floor so the water does not move towards the drain, water splashes outwards. Mold damage on the door frame due to this excessive water.
Headboard and lounge chair need to be vacuumed. Have a lot of dust.
Just with this details fixed it go up to be a 5star.

Great value for the location of the hotel. The area is relatively quiet but very close to museums, attractions, and public transportation. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room itself was comfortable with a comfortable bed. I’d recommend easily.

The room itself is fine, you have a bed and a lovely shower… but it is not a balcony, it’s a shelf that you can’t actually stand on so the description is not accurate. The wallpaper is peeling throughout the property and the whole place feels like it needs a deep clean. While we were staying, some guests upstairs decided to smoke in their room and set off the fire alarms at 1am.
However, if the price was a little lower I would stay here again.. the location is perfect for exploring Amsterdam and it is actually pretty quiet as it’s not right in the centre

Good location, walking distance to most places tourists may want to go. Bathroom was main issue, shower gets water everywhere. Walls are thin and front desk staff conversations can be heard at all hours.

Fantastic hotel for location and convenience. No airconditioning in room so was extremely hot. Only a small fan was provided. Bathroom door did not close either. Comfy bed and close to amenities

The young lady who checked us in was very friendly but the foyer stunk of cats, when we got our room No 16 we were very disappointed with what were getting for £400 for 2 nights, the room was stinking of dampness, the whole room was dated and worn out, the net curtains were dirty and torn with large holes in, we had about 9 inch gap to squeeze against the wall and the bed end , the safe in cupboard did not work and was not bolted down so carried all our valuables with us when we went out, the whole room needs decorating the wall paper is all flaking of, We do not recommend this hotel which is definitely not 3 star for £400.00 x 2 nights

The wallpaper was peeling from the walls and the paint was stained,
They charge a €50 deposit that is not discussed previously and are currently trying to overcharge me by around £100 for changing from a single room to a double room

Disappointing Amsterdam Hotel

Unfortunately this hotel falls way below par. My first room had a broken door handle, the toilet push was also broken, the shower handles were broken so almost impossible to turn off when wet. The wallpaper is hanging off the walls in the corridors and the feature wall in the bedroom is peeling off. The wood of the door frames are soaked through so look brown and are falling apart. My towels were dirty with black marks and the one for the shower was insignificant to soak up the water. You can hear most of the guests in the next room and the room above if they are walking or talking so my friend bought ear plugs in order to sleep. The staff were quite friendly and did what they could but unfortunately the hotel itself is a massive let down. Unfortunately they also keep cats on site so if you are allergic then that could be a problem… the cats sit outside the front door to the building. The location is fairly close to town and easy access to a tram and Vondelpark and this was really the only good thing.

Unfortunately this was a bit of a disappointment. We booked 3 rooms. My poor sons room blew a breaker, and the outlet fried his charger. His shower would not turn off one morning and the door hanf=dle to the bathroom broke off. Not to mention that we=hen we showed up to his ready room, all 4 of the pillows were on the floor with no pillow cases on them. Our room had a buzzing in the wall all night one night and a similarly almost broken bathroom door handle so my husband had to close me in from the outside because I was afraid I was going to pull the handle off. We only got 2 pillows and were told we could not have anymore. Additionally the boiler went out so the whole hotel (maybe street) was witout water for an entire day.
