The Royal Lanta is a wonderful resort with friendly staff, beautiful lush green grounds and gardens and is beachfront. The breakfast was great and served at the beachside restaurant. The location was also great and walking distance to other restaurants and the main road where there were convenient stores. The vibe was calm but lively. We really enjoyed our stay there!

The grounds around the reception area had an unbearable stench of sewage. My room was at the back of the property where the grounds were in complete disrepair, with garbage, broken boards on the deck and broken pathways. The villas at the front of the property closer to the beach looked lovely from the outside and the property was better maintained there.
My room was also in disrepair. The chain lock on the door was torn off and there was only a button lock on the doorknob so I had to go to reception to ask them to fix it (because there are no phones in the room) which they did quickly. The tea kettle also didn’t work, they sent a new one which also didn’t work. The walls were scuffed and dirty. The reception staff were The pool tiles were dirty. The lounge chairs by the beach which were very few so guests would put their towels out at 7 am to get a spot - they were falling apart, ripped and dirty cushions, and the staff removed the cushions at night but guests had to re-assemble them in the morning. There’s a bar/restaurant next to the beach/pool, but no service at all. Positives: reception staff are very sweet; beach location is great.

The room (1102) was infested with cockroaches and lizards!!! I stayed here for 3 nights, and only discovered the cockroaches and lizards on my last night around 1:00 am. I never saw the lizards, but I kept finding little brown pellets on top of my bed. I brought the pellets to the front desk and they told me that it was lizard feces. I found at least 5 lizard poops in my bed, and asked the housekeeping to change the sheets 3 times (which she did). As soon as I was finally in bed, I found the first cockroach near the bed. I didn’t want the cockroaches to lay eggs in my luggage or take them home as a souvenir, so I immediately went to look for staff to help. There were absolutely no staff on the property. I packed up my things and left at 2:00 am, hoping that a nearby hotel would have vacancy and staff to help me. All hotels in the area had no staff at night. Not wanting to go back to the cockroach and feces infested room, I spent my night wandering around the dark town searching for a new hotel, with about 100 lbs of luggage on my back and as a solo female traveller, which could’ve been very dangerous.

On top of the pests, there was a huge issue with black mold and mildew in the bathroom and the rest of the room. It was one of those dirty showers where I felt the need to wear flip flops to avoid contracting a fungus. Literally nothing in the room was clean to an average standard. I’ve been to over 100 hotels in my life, and this has to have been the most unhygienic I’ve seen

Expectation vs reality is VERY different in this hotel. Clearly, this was a nice play 15 years ago but now, it’s run-down and unclean without many facilities.
The photos have clearly been adjusted, the pool has 3 plastic chairs around it whilst the pool by the ocean had a few more but were all “reserved” by 9am..
The decking around the hotel is broken and falling into the water in places and it’s clear many rooms & buildings are so dilapidated they are now closed.
The breakfast is not like the photos, the staff are friendly but the restaurant is unclean and many items are empty and they don’t replace. The metal trays where the food go haven’t been cleaned in a long time, filthy.
The beds are very firm so be aware if you like a soft bed. The air conditioning works well and there was always plenty of water in the room.

Spacious, traditional bungalows are linked by a boardwalk that leads to the hotel outdoor pool, dining area and beautiful Khlong Dao beach. Breakfast is good and attended by a friendly, helpful staff. The location is convenient - just a short walk to Main Street and quick access to the beach, restaurants and stores. There are many lounge chairs and tables around the pool and beach front and large trees offer a lot of shade. The area is quiet at night, and it’s lovely to wake up to the songs of birds in the morning. The lighting is a little dim at night, especially if you want to take a shower, but these are minor quibbles. Would definitely consider staying at Royal Lanta again.

We had a great stay here. For the price and location, you can’t do better on Koh Lanta! My only complaint is the beach bar - they have 2 for 1 cocktails (220 thb) and we ordered one. They were so small you could literally pour them together in one cocktail glass and that still didn’t make a Norma size drink. We complained to the staff about it, but they did not care. Last drink we had there! As long as you skip those drinks, it’s a five star property!

Resort is lovely and the staff are helpful and friendly. However the rooms are a little rundown and old. The superior rooms are barely a standard room level. The cleanliness was lacking in some areas of the rooms. Like shower gel hold leaked rust and there was no black out curtains or blinds in the rooms. There was bad limescale on all crome in bathroom. However after raising some of these issues with the reception team. I have upgraded to a 2 bed villa room. Which was better bit still not perfect. The location and rest of the resort was good. Right on the beach and u could have breakfast in front of sea.

Koh lanta and Klongdao beach are my highlight of Thailand so far. The beach is beautiful and the bars (especially at sunset) are amazing. It feels like paradise.
As for the hotel, let's start with the positives. Location is spot on with beach access and a short walk to bars on the road behind, and the beach end pool is decent with new decking laid.
However, a big proportion of the hotel is in disrepair and little sign of work to put it right. We stayed in a family suite around the top pool and it was way past its best. Very basic facilities and a bathroom which never looked clean. The buildings were mainly wood and much of it looked rotten and in desperate need of replacement. NB The rooms nearer the beach looked better for couples/smaller families.
The bar and beachside restaurant were no better. Staff with little motivation and an area desperate for a face-lift. Furniture was tired and worn and no interest in smartening it up, apart from when a function was on (think it was a wedding). Tablecloths were laid and a real effort was taken. It looked much better, but just made me mad the same effort wasn't taken daily for paying guests........it wasnt exactly a cheap hotel.
Would I go back to ko lanta.....in a heartbeat.
Would I stay here...........very unlikely!!

Royal Lanta is in a great spot on Klong Dao beach, right on the sand and within easy walking distance of lots of good restaurants and bars. We had a superior villa which was really spacious and comfortable. Sometimes there were ants in the bathroom but the villa is in the middle of a garden so I didn’t expect anything else. There are 2 lovely swimming pools which are always clean. We preferred the top pool as we often had it to ourselves as everyone else went to the one beside the beach. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special and we didn’t try dinner here. We had a lovely stay and I’m sure we’ll be back for a third visit at some point.

We had a great stay at Royal Lanta. The staff is super friendly and very welcoming. The hotel is in a great location at the north end of the island. Room was big (we had a deluxe), quiet, and peaceful. We loved the beach, as it is super clean, very quiet, and pretty. The wifi is just okay. The reggae bar 2 doors down was our absolute favorite the entire time we stayed. Good hotel for a good price - would stay here again.

The hotel is in a good area and I'd probably recommend it in high season, but I was there in low season. The spa was closed for 2 months and it seemed like the hotel needed more attention to upkeep. The room was not cleaned well, found someone else's hair in the shower, and mouse dropping were an issue. Don't leave your clothes on the bed in case. The pool area was beautiful and the breakfast was good for an included breakfast in Thailand.

Lovely location on the beach near good restaurants

We really enjoyed our two nights at Royal Lanta. The staff were extremely helpful and lovely. They upgraded our room and arranged transport from the ferry. They also called to check when our tour transport was late and provided us any assistance we needed with a smile. The room was spacious and clean. The beds could have been softer but were on par with most of the hotels we stayed in. There are two pools, which were both clean and refreshing. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

The Royal Lanta still a good choice

While the hotel is showing its age a bit it still has enough charm to make it worthwhile stay. The deluxe room is gigantic in hotel standards and all the teakwood is gorgeous. Skip the room with the jacuzzi as you won't really want to use it, but do enjoy the two pools as they are nice. Also the hotel can arrange excursions for you like snorkeling that are definitely worth it.

A good choice to be close to town and on the beach. Beachside restaurant closed for low season but meals still available at the coffe shop. Unlike most hotels they do not put up shade cloth screens in low season so you still get to enjoy a great beach view. Two lovely pools and beautiful garden. Villas are really clean and comfy with high ceilings making them feel very spacious. Great value in low season. Highly recommend.

This hotel appeared to be very tired, decor in the room was very dated. Although it was comfy enough, I did sleep well. It is located in the north of the island, still very quite by Thailand standards but there is a fee bars and restaurants within a 10 minute walk.

Engagement ring stolen from room

I have no complaints about the accommodation or setting, location etc.
the only complaint I have is that the staff think it is their right to go through your belongings and steal what they like.
I had gone all the way to Thailand with the aim of proposing to my girlfriend, however when I did come to \"popping the question\" I discovered that the ring had been stolen from our room. I was absolutely devastated when I realised (by this time we had moved on from Koh Lanta)
the hotels stance is only that they are not held responsible for belongings left in the room - they are obviously not bothered if their staff steal from you as it could only have been taken on the last 2 days of our stay so they WILL know who took it.
the small ringbox was tucked away inside my empty backpack - not in a pocket, but inside the main structure of the bag where the frame for the shoulder straps lies (you would not know it was there unless you searched the lining of the rucksack)
you may ask why it was not in the safe... my significant other would have found the ring if I had used our rooms safe
this criminal act has ruined what should have been the best holiday ever and now is going to be remembered for all the wrong reasons...
shame, now I have to find another £1500 to buy another ring....

The resort is lovely, right on the beach. The rooms are nicely furnished and very spacious. The breakfast was satisfactory however we did not eat in the hotel for lunch and dinner. There we lots of restaurants near the hotel on the beach that we tried. Overall a very enjoyable stay at the royal lanta resort.

My boyfriend and I had a romantic getaway to Thailand. We booked this hotel at the last minute and were not disappointed. We were upgraded to a Deluxe room and it was amazing. All of the amenities were first class and the staff were extremely helpful. I highly recommend including breakfast, you will not regret it.

The location is right next to Kata beach. This beach is perfect for those who don't like huge crowds. However, Patong is just a tuk tuk ride away for a night out on the town.

Nice Cosy Hotel on A Great Beach

I stayed here with my family for 4 nights. The location is great and the hotel is good overall. The rooms was spacious enough for the four of us. Pros: The room was clean and everything was working, with the small exception of low water pressure in the shower. The resort is not crowded and had a good mix of families and couples. Spa was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Cons: The restaurant was closed for renovations when we were there but that was no issue as there were plenty of restaurants along the beach. Breakfast was a little disappointing, served at the small bakery. The management could have done more with the nice looking coffee machine in the back. That aside, the kids enjoyed the freshly made banana pancakes each morning. I wished they had poolside service for simple snacks and beverages.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay and I would not mind returning again.

I went there with 2 friends of mine for 2 nights. The rooms were spacious and pretty good, but the big pool was not well taken care of, the breakfast was horrible, i'm guessing the bacon was made once a week and just reheated every day. The only thing that was good about it was the omlet.
I would not recommend this hotel for ANYONE.

The hotel was great, clean, spacious rooms, had very helpful staff, and located right on the beach. Our trip was during the low season so other resorts and businesses were closed. The staff helped us everyday by offering tours and different activities to do. The only downfall was that the spa and massage area was being renovated during our stay.

The hotel is described as a resort and we were disappointed as the restaurant wasn't open and more than half of the food and drink in the cafe were not available. The spa was also closed. The hotel was on the beach fromt but the beach was dirty and a mess.

The rooms themselves looked quite nice but smelled damp. I think this all has to be taken in the context of June being low season and with better weather and more atmosphere, with the amenities and services open and operational this might be a nice place but I can only rate it on the basis of our experience.

Lanta itself seems generally quiet with not much going on but again this might have been because of it being low season. However, phi phi had a completely different feel two days later so it can't all be blamed on the season. Personally, I wouldn't bother going back to this hotel or Lanta.

This hotel could be such a gem: Right by the beach, lush gardens, good sized pools and in and outdoor restaurant space. But the pool and beach furniture is not turned down in the morning, the breakfast is served indoors even on perfectly fine days and the restaurant has some tables scattered around without making it inviting at all. There is some work going on in that area so perhaps that might improve. But if you are expecting service at the pool or at least seeing someone you might be disappointed. The staff at reception is nice though and helps with booking tours and transport. We didn't eat at the restaurant as it was quite uninviting but the hotel next door has very good food and on the main road are also some nice eateries (even though some have closed down for green season). The location is fine and with your own scooter Lanta is easily explorable.

Good hotel for Ko Lanta

Ko Lanta is not Phuket or Ko Phi Phi or Ko Samui; it is much more laid back and much less touristy. If you go to Ko Lanta, the Royal Lanta resort is a good hotel to stay. Wherever you stay in Ko Lanta, you will need to rent a motorbike (a nice motorbike rental shop is a few meters before the hotel on the small road from the main road). The hotel is a series of bungalow; no water view from the bungalows, but the hotel has a nice garden with pool, coffeshop and restaurant that are open to the ocean; very nice sunsets over Ko Phi Phi in the distance. The hotel is not far from the pier (maybe not even one km); do not buy a taxi ticket on the boat (I paid 150 THB for the taxi ticket on the boat); you should pay a max of 50 THB for a tuk tuk on the pier.

Nice, but a few faults

Generally a nice resort in a good location with nice safe sandy beach on one side and a road with various restaurants and bars at the back. Accomodation is in individual bungalows in a tropical setting with lots of vegatation that makes them feel private. It is best suited to families and 80% of the customers are scandinavian families. Unfortunately it lets itself down with a number of small faults that could easily be fixed e.g. the bathroom in the bungalow needed a good clean and redecortaion. The breakfast was generally poor with no variety, also there were not enough sun loungers so you had the usual 'towels out at 7am'. It is also quite expensive and there are better reasorts on the island but you need to book early because the scandinavians get in first.

Meget slidt hotel, som virkelig kunne bruge en kærlig hånd. Mange dele af hotellet var lukket pga. forfald. Det dryppede ned fra taget i den bygning, hvor man spiste morgenmad, så der lå håndklæder på gulvet. Dårlig morgenmadsbuffet, maden så ikke frisk ud og det var generelt ikke velsmagende. Til prisen alt for dyrt. Vi tog derfra en dag før. Ville ikke anbefale at booket ophold her.

Hotellet är slitet och gammalt, måste vart perfekt för 20 år sedan. Det är mycket som behöver renoveras. Men det var rent, de städade rummet varje dag, personal var trevlig och hjälpsam.

Leider sehr wenig Liegen.
Bei einem Pool gab es gar keine Liegen nur 3-4 Plastikstühle.
Frühstück war leider auch sehr enttäuschend.

Zimmer sehr veraltet, auch die Decken nicht fleckenfrei.

Personal war super freundlich und hilfsbereit! Auch die Kellner an der Poolbar wiesen immer auf Aktionen von Cocktails hin.

An sich war es ein guter Aufenthalt für 4 Nächte. Jedoch die schlechte Bewertung aufgrund des sehr hohen Preises des Hotels und der Mängel die ich oben erwähnte!

Bra läge \"på\" stranden. Bra frukost. Bra massageställe. Väldigt trevligt bemötande vid incheckning och det var absolut inga problem att få stanna i rummet 1 tim extra (pga transfer). Dock behöver Royal Lanta uppdaterad.

Very calm and peaceful hotel. Great and friendly staff who made us feel very welcome and great breakfast as well. The hotel has a temple inspired look which gives of a authentic feeling of Thailand and Koh lanta. Would definetely come back to this hotel everything was perfect really!

Personalen var otroligt trevlig, rummet var något spartanskt men väldigt fräscht. Hotellet och frukosten var toppen, men själva stranden där allt låg var väldigt turistat. Rekommenderar för barnfamiljer

Det er meget gammelt og trænger til en kærlig hånd. Døren kan ikke lukke ordentligt, dør ud til terrassen lukker heller ikke helt og der er hul, hvor taget mog væggen mødes.

Bra läge med solstolar precis intill stranden, bra service med väskor osv, bra omhändertagande genom att hälsa och hela tiden fråga hur vi hade det, bra frukost med flera alternativ och möjlighet att få tillagade omeletter efter önskemål. Nut var den personen som utmärkte sig mest.

Slitet hotel som sett sina bästa dagar! Rummen var helt okej men för övrigt var det slitet! 2-3 stjärnor av 5 möjliga!

Kylskåpet var för kallt så flaskorna frös sönder, då fick vi betala för flaskorna!

Nja, finns bättre hotell för den summan! Läget var bra!

Fine store rom (vi hadde familiesuite som hadde en kingside seng og køyeseng). God aircondition. Det største og fineste bassenget lå rett ved rommet vårt, men dette var ca 5 min å gå fra stranden. Stille og rolig resort, passer fint for familier. Fantastisk plassering på en nydelig strand, med masse restauranter og barer i nærheten. 7/11 også nærme. Hyggelig service på hotellet. Maten i restauranten var ikke bra, frokosten var dog helt ok med et greit utvalg. De lager egg på bestilling.

Hotellet bærer preg av at det trengs litt oppussing. For lite og slitte solsenger ved stranden. Og det merkeligste var at det ikke var noen solsenger ved det store fine bassenget lenger inn på hotellet. Her var det bare plaststoler, men det var et flott sted å tilbringe dagen og ungene elsket dette bassenget.

Plasseringen og lokasjonen er det beste ved dette hotellet, og de store familierommene, selv om både rom og selve hotellet var litt slitt og trengs litt oppussing. Stranden og solnedgangen noe av det beste vi har opplevd.

Wouldn’t stay here

Hotellet behöver sig en renovering det är väldigt väldigt gammalt och nergånget. Poolen är väldigt smutsig och solstolarna väldigt slitna. Det är verkligen överpris. Men jag måste ge personalen ett stort tack, wow va serviceminded dem är och så otroligt snälla.
