Rustic Charm in Westchester

If rustic charm is on your bucket list, the Kittle House is brimming it….older floorboards, wooden beams, and a copper ceiling in the taproom.
There are modern amenities alongside older fixtures….that plumbing (3/4”?) provides a powerful shower!
We stayed during the holidays, and the inn was decorated beautifully. Continental breakfast included.
This hotel services an area in Westchester that has few options for lodgings. Fortunately, this inn is a wonderful option.

The property needs improvement. Sufficient heat was not supplied to the room. It was absolutely cold. The ceiling in the bathroom and over the bed was peeling. The phone in the room was disconnected so one had to dial direct from one’s personal phone to get the front desk. Lastly, there was a balcony that is shared. My neighbor took the opportunity to become a peeping Tom. I was very uncomfortable. Upon stating that to the front desk I was met with complacency. I did not feel safe. There was also a fee assessed for key of $20 that was removed. I would not recommend in the winter time. Also, the food is excellent.

The rooms are not as advertised! The bathroom was in very poor condition. The ceiling was leaking and not addressed by management. The mirrors were so old you couldn’t see yourself. The tv was very small and across the room so was impossible to watch it lying down. If you are looking to sleep in this is not for you. It sounds like they rent the upper floor to a tap dancing company. Our room was right next to the staffing office which is not favorable. Would not recommend and the pics are vey deceiving!

Beautiful Victorian Room

We had a lovely time here! The room and building are beautifully decorated and have a Victorian feel to them. The room itself was very big and full of beautiful antique furniture. The breakfast they offer in the morning was a very nice spread of a little bit of everything. They have a beautiful dining room to enjoy it in as well. We definitely recommend staying here!

Located in a beautiful neighborhood. We walked around a bit but no sidewalks on roads so felt a little unsafe with traffic. Good continental breakfast. Could add a few sitting areas as there was no place to sit in backyard and enjoy the surroundings.

The restaurant and bar are nice, and the continental breakfast in the morning is good. The rooms at the inn, however, are way overdue for an update and repairs. In our room, windows were painted over making it impossible to open them, the shower/bath combo had several cracks in the tile, the refrigerator was inoperable and stunk to high heaven when it was opened, the hassock was cracked open and separated. The daily rate for the rooms remains very high despite the poor nature of the accommodations. My advice is to find another location to stay overnight.

Room was large and comfortable. Some issues with water (changed from hot to cold without being touched in the shower). Excellent restaurant and very attentive service for our group of 10 for a family dinner preceding an event. Very good wine list and excellent array of well executed dishes that were very well done! Highly recommend the restaurant. It would have been nice if the weather had cooperated (it poured) so we could be outside on the patio for drinks or dessert but we did enjoy the bar area.

When we arrived the doorknob came off our second story guest room’s door. As my husband explained to the manager the importance of having a working doorknob as essential to guest safety, the manager replied we could use the fire escape located at the other end of our room.
That would have been fine except that the metal ladder from the second story to the ground floor (which was also the escape route in the case of fire for third story guest rooms) was so overgrown with invasive vines as to render it unusable.
I cannot in good conscience recommend staying at the Kittle House to anyone who values personal safety as part of their hotel experience. Also the hot water temperature could best be described as scalding.

It is a charming inn. No doubt. My issues started when I checked in. I was in room 3B. That on the third floor. A walk up. Turns out my room was the only room on the 3rd floor. Right next to the mop bucket. The room itself was fine, except there are no screens on the windows, so keeping the windows open at night was not an option.
My other issue was dining. Their dining room is very nice and the service was attentive. But the prices? My God. I wanted to find somewhere else to eat, but the inn is in the middle of nowhere and without knowing the area, I decided to stay put. $20 for lobster bisque, $44 for a short rib dinner. I also ordered dessert and a soft drink. Without ordering any alcohol, my bill with tip was over $100 for one. Again, the inn is very charming and the staff is great, but for the money, I wish I stayed somewhere else.

Internet did not work. Television did not work. I was promised free breakfast, but all morning long when I went downstairs, there wasn't a soul to be found. I ended up leaving after the first night and had to rent another room somewhere else. I was not refunded for the night I didn't stay there. The water pressure was good though.

The hotel was beautiful but not worth it. Our rooms were rustic and clean but the bed was hard and uncomfortable. My room was above some sort of generator that made a buzzing noice that made it difficult to sleep. Also, the toilet seat was loose and moved when I sat down.

It is a wonderful historic building probably about 200 years old. The rooms are huge and well-appointed. The bathroom is also huge. Breakfast is classy. Because it is an old historic building, there is no elevator thus ability to navigate stairs is essential. I would definitely return.

The rooms are dilapidated and everything is minimal.
The ‘continental breakfast’ was also minimal and shockingly uninviting. Really, I disliked staying there as I expected so much and i would dissuade anyone from going there expecting a ‘cozy’ inn. It’s rundown and in need of a more pleasant staff and room conditions that don’t feel like a frat house.

The dining experience was really nice, good food and very good staff. The inn, however, was disappointing. Our room was ok, but the bathroom was way overdue for an update. The common areas by the stairways were cluttered and not inviting, the back door didn't close properly or lock, and the rear area by the exit where the staff hung out wasn't clean. The landscaping wasn't well tended either. We didn't expect high end and perfect, but from the pictures we did expect the property to be pretty and clean. Sorry we couldn't give a better review :(

This is an old property that dates from 1790, even though the actual house was built 100 years afterwards. It has the charm of an old building that may transport guests to other times.

The house needs maintenance in order to restore the property to its former glory.

We checked at 5:30pm fora 7:00pm dinner reservation with family. The staff was professional and courteous. They advised us continental breakfast was included the next morning. When we went down in the morning not a person was to be found. The room where the breakfast was supposedly served was locked. The people above us were very noisy waking us up at 1:00am. The sink was loose and the smoke detector flashed all night. Floors squeaked and TV would shut off after so many minutes of watching and have to reboot. Not a very pleasant experience but the food in the restaurant was excellent!!

Special old world inn. Gorgeous and comfortable. Everything a modern hotel has that I like (great bed, mini fridge, coffee in the room, tv, great water pressure that is super hot) without all the stuff I hate (synthetic everything, blown hot air heat, gross smelling toiletries, noisy roadside locations, ugly furniture). As an incredible added bonus, the restaurant is exceptionally good. Wooded, quiet location. No staff at night, if that matters to you. The rooms are huge, much bigger than they look on the photos. This may seem like a small thing, but I have been staying in a lot of the area hotels in the past year as I help a family member, and I had at least 15 overnights during the colder months where my sleep was wrecked by the noisy, super dry blown air heat that is ubiquitous in modern hotels. I loved that the Kittle Inn had cast iron radiators. This is the only place I'm staying from now on. Surprised how affordadable it is, with price similar to a Comfort Inn, and in an entirely different league. Absolutely love it!

We were at the Inn for a 70th birthday party . We decided to stay the night at the Inn. Good decision!! This is an historic inn with all the history on the wall, in the bar, and in the architecture of the inn. We had a comfortable king bed in a large room. The buffet breakfast was excellent with great coffee, homemade granola, fresh fruit salad and muffins. Very nice staff greeted us for check in and check out. Very nice visit Jay

Super cute B&B!! My boyfriend and I stayed here for the Harry Potter Forbidden Forest weekend and what a blast it was! I was really nervous about getting to the B&B very late (around 1 AM) as we were traveling from MA and I work nights as a hospital pharmacist. I called Kittle House and the staff was so nice and understanding- they said it was not an issue, check in would be closed but they would have my key waiting for me. It was right up front with a cute note, and one of the managers actually stayed behind to greet us! I thought it was so over-the-top kind when they typically leave around 8 or 9 pm. Totally recommend staying here!

Wonderful place to stay if you like being alone.

The Inn was indeed special.
The lack of any staff whatsoever being on the premises — and checking myself in alone — was a bit ‘odd’. Also being only one of 2 or 3 people actually staying in the entire facility felt a bit like “The Shining” ….. but I would certainly stay there again on my next business trip to Westchester.
With the restaurant and bar being closed I had to forage on my own for sustenance — but I ended up finding a fabulous restaurant a few miles away.

Charming old building built in 1790! Welcoming holiday lights outside and in a lovely area. For me, being close to family and Whole Foods was a plus. The mattress was the old coil style and very noisy, but the room was spacious (I even did a mat workout with plenty of room to spare). The adjacent restaurant is stellar and they offer room service. Definitely will be back to try their other delicious offerings.

Overall amazing. We stayed in a large beautiful room. The house was lovely inside and out and decorated for the holidays. We had a great meal and attentive service. Another review mentioned a moldy tub but we found a well scrubbed tub with a trace of black probably from iron in the water. Some reviews mentioned a noisy heating system. This was the only downside but we were able to adjust. We used this Inn as a stop-off for visiting our daughter in Manhattan. We will definitely do so again. All in all, a lovely stay!

Very disappointed in this stay- no one was at the front desk to check us in- a key to the room was left in an envelope envelope with my name on it.
Couldn’t take a shower before leaving for work because there was no hot water- even after letting the water run for 20 minutes.
Television was super small and bathroom/fixtures were outdated- I just expected more from the Kittle House Inn.

I love staying in the main building - it feels like I'm in an old world Inn / country estate.
Everyone is friendly & nice. It was a middle of the week stay and the restaurant was hopping!
Our room was very comfortable, spacious & clean.
My only suggestion would be to have breakfast open earlier than the current 8:30 start. But there is coffee in the room.

Wonderful Charming Crabtree’s Kittle House

We loved everything about this lodging. Easy check in and pleasant front desk service. Most importantly, the room was immaculate and very large. It had at least 12 foot ceilings, a beautiful and comfortable poster bed with crisp bedding linens. Very charming and the perfect country type healthy continental breakfast with delicious yogurt, house made granola, fresh fruit, cereals, hard boiled eggs, juice and wonderful breads. Look forward to another visit.

Quaint cozy inn, great food

We had a nice stay. We were there for just one night (in area for nearby birthday celebration. We wanted something more unique than the typical large chain hotels. This was perfect for that. Definitely not modern, but clean rooms and had a B&B feel. We had a light appetizer and glass of wine before our party, the food was great and the place was very cozy. I wish I knew to make a reservation for an outside table, as we were told it was booked solid so had to sit sat at the bar (which was quaint, but it was such a nice evening, we were hoping to sit outside in garden for a few minutes, not the dark bar, but we were not allowed.) Most of the tables were still open when we left, so we could have been outside, but no big deal, just would have been nice if they were a bit more flexible for guests of the inn. The continental breakfast was lovely (not sure if garden seating was an option but we were inside...) All in all, it worked out well for our brief stay and the location was close to our friends event.

Really nice surroundings with a good restaurant and outdoor dining. Staff very helpful, quiet and peaceful, still close to all necessities like Whole Foods and other shops. Facility is understandably old, and the sound proof is not the greatest but still after restaurant downstairs closes it’s very quiet.
