Staffing very good apart from one person - we returned from a dinner around 10pm, she was clearing up behind the bar and it was very clear when we asked for nightcaps she wasn’t exactly enthused! This was a charming pub and inn. The rooms are small but cozy, very clean, and very comfortable. It felt like staying in a story book English inn and we loved it! We stayed there to tour Highclere Castle and the Bombay Sapphire distillery, and it was well-located for both. There is good, free parking and a nice breakfast.

It's a very pleasant pub/hotel. Friendly staff. Extremely close to Highclere Castle. The food was excellent. The only negative aspect was the bathroom. The shower cabinet is very small and vert high up, making it very hard in and out safely. Also there are not enough power points in the room. Otherwise we had a very pleasant stay. Highly recommended!

The staff for the most part were excellent especially the bar manager and the lady who supervised breakfast on Tuesday 11th. The atmosphere was good in the pub. The room was fine if a little small. Why are there never two chairs? The kitchen was terrible. The first night my husbands food was cold. The terrine was only just about defrosted and his burger was stone cold. My piece of trout was tiny and some what over cooked. By the time we had our dessert they had run out of custard! What kind of cook cannot make a jug of custard? At breakfast the next day the bacon had run out. The lady organising the service had the sense to send someone to the shop. The buffet was meagre, just a couple of jars of cereal, three pastries and a few pieces of fresh fruit, mostly kiwis and a couple of yoghurts. The cooked breakfast was good. We didn’t bother with dinner on the second night. At breakfast the next morning, I asked for yoghurt but they had run out.

What an adorable little property and a mile and a half away from highclere castle! The staff is amazing as is the food! The hotel is very close to the highway so road noise is a constant. This is not in a walkable area though it’s a $15-20 cab ride to go anywhere. And the rooms are tiny

This hotel was okay for one night but there were a few issues. The rooms were quite dark. The showers were awful. The water pressure was really bad in our room - 107 and in my mum’s room the shower was so hot and it wouldn’t cool down - 102. The fire alarm woke us all up at 7am which wasn’t very nice. The evening meal was okay but quite a limited menu. The dessert was very disappointing as we couldn’t eat the crumble as it was unpleasant. I think I have been charged twice for my booking and now have the stress of trying got sort that out. It’s convenient for a trip to Highclere Castle but I wouldn’t stay any longer than one night.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel so that we could walk to Highclere Castle for a tour booked months ago.
The overall hotel is charming, the staff are lovely and the drinks were great.
However the room we stayed in was quite dirty. It desperately needs a deep clean (spider webs in corners and on the ceiling, lots of sticky surfaces and lots of dust on the coffee pods and other edibles).
The walls are very thin and you can hear the highway beside the hotel at night… while I’m a deep sleeper and this didn’t bother me, it could bother some future guests.
The menu in the pub/restaurant is quite limited (if you’re craving fresh veggies and fruits), however everything we ordered was quite delicious.
Overall it was a decent stay, the biggest issue I had was the cleanliness of our room.

Staff attentive and friendly, food was lovely, whole place was very clean and tidy, the room we stayed in would benefit from having a fresh coat of paint, other than that we had everything we needed including a coffee machine, nice clean linen & towels & toiletries, even home made biscuits! VERY dog friendly, they get treats, water bowls, dog baskets, even free poo bags!! Hotel is a 10 min walk to Highclere Castle.Our stay was lovely and would definitely stay again & recommend, Thankyou.!

Although sandwiched between 2 busy roads there was little traffic noise in the rooms. Everything was excellent - rooms, beds, linen, and towels, food - both breakfast and evening and all staff were friendly, helpful and contributed to an very enjoyable visit to Highclere Castle of Downton Abbey fame which is less than a mile down the road.

For a small town like Highclere, I didn’t have that much of expectation, but I was proven wrong right when I walked through the door! Not only the staff was friendly, attentive, but the pub/restaurant part was absolutely lovely and the room was filling with all kinds of goodies, even two pints of wine on the house! I enjoyed my first time stay that I decided to stay another night.

Food was excellent as was the super friendly service. ALL of the staff were brilliant.
Rooms were really well appointed, just needed a few touch ups, but bed was comfy, a joy to have big white towels and loved the homemade shortbread in a jar with the tea.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We attended a gala at Highclere Castle and it was ideally situated, being less than a mile from the castle. Also, all of the staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfasts and other meals we ate there were superb. There was also plenty of free parking. Would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here expressly to visit Highclere, which was a 20 minute brisk walk away. Room was small but ok, chilly but there is a plug in heater for additional warmth. For some reason we got the handicapped room so the bathroom was weird, no shower curtain just a drain in the floor and no outlets. Dinner was delicious and the dining room cozy as was the bar area. Everyone was extra nice, helpful, easy going. It's just old but they work well with what they have. Great service and great food, the only thing that let it down was the superior rooms are no different to any other room other than they are in a quiter location. the bathroom was dissapointing as explained to the Manager the toilet was partially under the sink ie when sat on your legs are under the toilet. Would book again as food as service was good and the rooms are good and nicely decorated and comfortable .

We Had a great family get together at the Canarvon Arms. The staff were lovely and the food was great. Our room was comfortable but was unhappy that on the morning of departure the cleaner woke us by knocking the door early to ask if we were checking out, it wasn't necessary. The shower cubicle was snug. No good for a larger person. And the floor tiles were cracked and rough under foot.

A lovely old pub with a new accommodation block attached. room 109 was a decent size although it lacked wardrobe/drawer space. The bathroom was clean and everything worked. The shower cubicle was quite small for a larger person. The best points were the staff and the food both were truely excellent. The staff genuinely friendly and efficient and the gastro pub food was excellent without being fussy. All in all we’ll definitely be back again

Good food, nice breakfast. No drawers or storage in rooms, just a railway luggage rack thingy for hangers. Not much space in bathroom for setting down toiletries. Nice comfortable bed,lovely view of garden, very nice and helpful staff. Suffers from main road noise in rear of property. Probably nearly best in class in that neck of the woods.

Stopped here for one night . The room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed with nice sheets. The bathroom was compact. The corner shower was a little snug to be honest. The present house, where the hotel is located, was built by James Pettit Andrews between 1763 and 1772 to designs by John Chute.
This style is now known as Strawberry Hill Gothic, after the house created for Horace Walpole in Twickenham. The land purchased by Andrews at the time was not extensive and during his ownership, Donnington Grove could more properly be described as a house with grounds rather than a country estate.
The estate, which comprises of 550 acres, was a mixture of parkland, farmland and woodland, with the River Lambourn running through it. These variations in the landscape provided an ideal setting for a championship golf course.
Dave Thomas, one of Britain’s foremost golf architects was assigned the task of creating a golf course that was in keeping with the listed landscape gardens and lake to the south of the house. The construction of the course started in November 1991 and on the 12 June 1993 the Donnington Grove Country Club opened.
If golf does not suit everyone there are also beautiful walks, fishing and gardens to enjoy.
