We love the George and have stayed many times. However the addition of the Bar across the street that now stays open until 2:30am on a Friday and Saturday with loud music doors open and people outside is not good. We were kept awake as a result. The George staff were great we understand they had no control however we will not be returning unless the bar is closed. Great shame.

Wort sleep I have had in a hotel ever! Very noisy at night until 1am then from 6am the room above sounded like an elephant in lead boots was tap dancing continuously for about 2 hours. Told the hotel staff and they said Oh must be someone walking around. Inspired!!

Really enjoyed my stay. The receptionist was very friendly and professional and facilitated an early check in. Spacious, clean and comfortable room with good sized bathroom.
Breakfast was tasty and there was plenty of choice.
Excellent value for money.
Within short walking distance to the cathedral and shopping area.

As I stay hear on a regular basis I booked a double room as having trouble sleeping and normally book a single. But I got the same room as I stayed in previously as a single room booking.
Quilts and pillows need replacing as they are limp and smell.

We were in Lichfield for a short break the George Hotel is right in the centre of the City the staff were friendly & helpful the hotel is clean and tidy. There is a private car park and I would recommend a stay here.

Another good stay. Well organised, clean and good food at reasonable prices. Only downside was that, on one of the hottest nights of the year so far, the aircon wasn’t enabled and so a hot, sticky night ensued. But a nice place to stay and Lichfield itself is a good place to visit.

An awful welcome. The hotel forgot to notify us that there was a fair ground in full flow in their carpark !

Receptionist explained that they were unaware of the issue ahead of the day.

As a result. The £10 parking onsite became a £25 fee in a public carpark.

Clumsy customer experience AT BEST! awkward walk with cases and more expence than planned.

Room was spacious and as advertised. Although aircom had been deactivated. Windows open to a continuous rumble of a fan.

A shame the finer details let down a lovely hotel.

I would strongly suggest contacting hotel before arrival to get precise directions to hotel and especially its car park. Satnav was not enough! Hotel itself was comfortable and extremely well placed. Beware of rooms facing the street as these can get noisy.

Gorgeous property, my room was stunning, had a free standing bath and sofa. Really lovely and not expected! Finding the hotel was a bit tricky, I used sandiford car park which is only £1.50 to leave from midnight to 8am so my parking only cost £3.
Very impressed will stay again!

Good stay. Only a few issues. At breakfast the food wasn't refilled often enough, e.g. during our breakfast there weren't any fried eggs and despite checking twice they hadn't been replenished. Our room was too warm and despite opening the window it was still too hot so our sleep wasn't the best.

The hotel was very ordinary. The rooms were never serviced during our stay. We used some wine glasses on the 2nd day of our 3 day stay, these glasses stayed in the room throuhtout our stay.. We booked twinned rooms for two couples but only 1 set of towels were left in the rooms, we both had to treck to reception for extra towels. £10.00 per night for parking...which you had to pay on entering the hotel. The signpost to the hotel's car park was not properly sign posted. I would recommend this hotel only for its location, its located right in the centre of the town.

All aspects of the stay was very good but we had a room overlooking a pub called the walkabout and as this was a Saturday night, it appears to be open until 3am. Sleeping was not easy or possible as there was there was loud music and people talking quite loudly outside.

Old property so floors were wonky and room was a bit or a random shape. The check in was ok albeit the clerk was a little stressed / not entirely welcoming. I would say that our room was pretty noisy at night due to it being close to a pub and a lot of drunk shouting people though not sure there is much they could do about that. Did what we needed it to do - hot water, comfortable bed.

This was an ideal place to stay after a concert at The Guldhall. Our bed was comfy and good hot shower. Breakfast reasonable for a buffet and lovely pre theatre dinner.
Pillows could have been better and the room heater was too noisy to have on overnight.

The hotel is in serious need of upgrading. The building is old so I’m sure there are limits regarding what can be done but the room was freezing. Windows had been left open all day on a day it had been snowing.
Single pane windows so even when closed the room couldn’t heat up.
Staff were excellent but the hotel is simply not comfortable during cold weather due to the building age.

The room was small and very noisy due to the kitchen extractor fan running. It was switched of in the evening but then switched back on at 5:30am. It was very loud and the whole room vibrated. We could not get back to sleep. We did request a room change but were told the hotel was full. The hair drier was unsafe with connections accessible and in a poor condition. It was very hot the air on didn’t work and we couldn’t have the widow open due to the noise. The room also smelled musky.

George was a great location for a weekend stay in Lichfield. Easy to park and very central to all the lovely attractions.
Air con worked really well as did the shower. Bar area was very comfortable with expected prices.Rooms were clean and tidy with breakfast choice being superb. Would highly recommend.

The location is great, right in the middle of Lichfield, good for getting to the Cathedral or restaurants and shops.
The bedrooms are v small, and cramped. I was in a room next to a door which was noisy and the soundproofing meant that you could clearly hear people coming and going.

This hotel is OK - it's a bit tired, the floors are creaky, I could hear the guy above me most of the night (superior room). I'd say 3* overall HOWEVER the staff here are excellent - Reception, housekeeping, waiting staff - everyone. That made the difference for me, will definitely stay again.

The hotel is well located and is a really nice old building. The standard is really good, the breakfast was amazing. Room nice and clean. The only negative I had is that it said Free parking at the hotel. I was going to park at the main carpark and pay, due to the hotel parking being full but I waited and someone left so I had their space. Upon checkin I still had to pay for parking. Apparently if booking through an agent you have to pay for parking, which is actually more than in the main carpark anyway!

OK but over priced

The staff were welcoming but the room was (in my view) over priced - very small and in need of a freshen up. The bathroom was very small and the shower was tiny. I struggled to get into or out of the shower and once in it having any kind of a meaningful wash was a challenge. The room itself was Ok but tired, I had only booked a single room as I was only staying one night after a night out with friends but it was tired. Nothing bad about the hotel - just didn't feel like i got value for money and I was a little put out by £8 to park and £12 for breakfast. Again - just didn't feel like value. The staff were pleasant and the dining / bar area was nice. I just left very underwhelmed and lighter in the wallet.

Our room was extremely warm when we arrived mid afternoon. We turned off the radiator and tried to open a window to get some fresh air, however it was only possible to open the secondary internal double glazed portion and not the original window behind. Consequently the room was still too warm to sleep comfortably when we went back to the room around 11pm.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The public rooms are nice, but bedroom was a bit dated.

Hot buffet breakfast was very good.

There is an additional £8 / night parking charge on arrival. Parking is only complimentary for guest who book direct with the hotel. All 3rd party booked rooms incur an additional charge!! I was not impressed by this.

We booked the executive suite for at The George for a special occasion (my 50th birthday) to coincide with our booking for a reservation at Tom Shepherds Upstairs restaurant, both were booked back on December 28th 2022. We looked forward to this occasion for months and were very excited to be staying in Lichfield. Unfortunately when we arrived and checked in the room we were allocated was NOT the room that we had booked. When I returned to reception they were adamant it was the correct room until I showed them my email to confirm I had booked the executive suite. At this point they said the bride and groom had that suite and the hotel was fully booked. We were very disappointed with the response, and were offered a bottle of Prosecco which was very nice but there was no mention of any kind of refund for the difference in price or the inconvenience. I’m more disappointed that we weren’t informed of this beforehand my email, text or phone call which we then could have made alternative arrangements or they could have at least offered us breakfast for the inconvenience.
My partner has emailed the hotel a number of times but we have received no reply at all which I think is very disappointing and unprofessional.

Untruthful room location before booking

Before using this website I range the hotel because they only had one room left, and was assured this room faced the rear, away from the noisy bar which shuts at 3am. Turns out this was untrue, the room was on the front corner and the bar was 50 yards away. We could hear the noise through the night, it was vital to get some sleep hence why I rang.

There were also major problems parking, the hotel carpark was full, as was the big council carpark adjacent. I got locked away from my room because we got one card and my wife had gone to bed without a phone, so the security door to upstairs couldn't be bypassed. At this point the bar was shut (11pm) and there was nobody on reception, waiting 10 minutes. Luckily another guest let me through. The reception is meant to be manned constantly.

The room was a weird shape with a sloping floor and very old fittings with poor quality secondary glazing.

All in all a vastly overpriced, tired hotel which was OK but had major flaws, originating with an untruthful phone call.

Whilst the staff we met were friendly and the hotel room spacious and comfy, we barely got any sleep due to the noise from Walkabout across the road which stays open until 3am. I think the hotel should offer discounted fees for any rooms situated opposite the bar as even with the windows closed it was so loud, I can’t imagine what the summer is like. I did mention this to reception when we checked out but apart from saying sorry they didn’t offer anything else by way of compensation which leaves me to this review. £150 for less than 3 hours sleep. You also have to pay £8 for parking which isn’t mentioned anywhere.

Booked a comfort double room, but was given a twin room with no air con overlooking the street so couldn’t even have the windows open due to street noise. Cramped room, at the far end of the hotel which was a maze a get to.
When asked to move was told no more rooms available. Complained to front desk who was nice and said manager would contact me but still no response. Only saving grace was it was convenient for festival we were attending. Would not stay again

This hotel is conveniently situated next to a large public carpark and the hotel has a lot of character. The room I had was not large but it was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was excellent, one of the best I've had for a long time and the service from all the staff was first class.

It was so hot at this property. The original AC wasn’t working, the windows were painted closed and there was no way to open them. They provided two fans but to be honest they weren’t effective. I spent the night taking cold showers and laying on top of the covers like a naked starfish. Also the receptionist would not add my BW points o to my reward card when I checked out. I didn’t do it on check on because there was a Long queue. I didn’t know they would only accept it on checkout. You also have to pay for parking at this hotel

Overnight stay to visit 'Upstairs' restaurant

Conveniently located with car park (fee charged) in the centre of Lichfield. Staff need a lesson in Customer Service, surly, uncommunicative and talking to other staff whilst dealing with Customers. There seems to be a policy developing whereby hotels charge a fixed amount in excess of the agreed rate This is understandable, but we had to ask for an invoice when checking out, when told by the unhelpful clerk that our card would be credited with the difference; 24 hours later it hasn't, she reluctantly printed out an invoice and handed it over without bothering to communicate with me.
The room was small but comfortable, it was a hot day and all the large dyson fan did was to move the hot air around, there was another machine which could be used but you had to top it up with cold water!
Only one bath towel provided and no shampoo.

Will be using the new Premier Inn just up the road next time we visit Lichfield.

Get air con please or let us open window!!!!

We arrived at hotel around 1.30pm. It was too early for check in but I asked politely if room was available and I was told quite curtly that check in was 3pm. I am pretty sure they had rooms serviced but they charge a £25 early check in fee so I get the impression will never offer early check in without paying for it. I was told also that I would have to pay £5 car park fee that was never mentioned on any paperwork (I checked). We left our bag as we had to drive into Birmingham to park for the Bruce Springsteen gig.
We returned at around 1am and saw the night porter who told me a parking fee didn’t apply as I’d booked before they changed this. He gave us our room key but when we arrived at our room the key didn’t work. We saw a hotel employee in the corridor who asked if we were ok. I explained about key and he tried without success so he went and got a different key. The door opened but the room was like a furnace. There was heat coming from one of the appliances and the windows couldn’t be opened. There was no possibility that a human being could have slept in that room. I would estimate it was over 30 degrees in there. The hotel employee agreed that we couldn’t stay in that room so after about 15 mins wait we were transferred to the room next door. It was cooler in that room but still very hot. We had a very poor sleep. After breakfast we went back to room and realised just how hot it was. I don’t think we would have survived the night in original room. Just awful.

We had booked a two day stay over with breakfast but left after one night because of the noise from the nightclub/bar across the road. It played very loud music until 3 am. I think this should be stated in the details that it is noisy through the evening and night. When we told the receptionist that we are checking out early we wasn’t asked why because I think it has been said before.
Also the room was quite small not like the photo and very hot. The room was a double room but we had to fight over the hot chocolate and biscuit as there was only one.
Apart from that the staff were very friendly.

The Staff were excellent, the room was excellent and the bar food and breakfast were excellent. Hidden little gem is this hotel. Woll definitely stay again.

Great one night stay

Comfortable and clean. Great central location for the wedding we attended that day. On site parking is limited, cost £5 for overnight stay but there is a large public carpark next door so it wasn't a worry. Room was warm, bed comfortable and good choice of complementary hot drinks in room

Fabulous hotel

Hotel lovely and ideally situated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was fabulous as was our buffet breakfast the next morning. Couldnt fault anything and will definitely book again.

Overnight good location

Ok for an overnight stay due the the excellent location. The breakfast was very good, room was quiet. Property itself is typical of best westerns an old building that is due an upgrade.

Great city centre hotel

Lovely stay in comfortable city centre hotel.
Rooms slightly dated but comfortable and clean.
Breakfast was cooked to order with cereals and fruit etc.
