I recently stayed at The Star Grand Sydney and had a mixed experience.

The room itself was well appointed, with really great lighting and easy-to-use controls, which I appreciated. However, the mattress felt very old and wasn’t particularly comfortable, which made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. The room also looked like it could benefit from a proper deep clean, there were noticeable stains and some mould around the shower drains that detracted from the overall feel.

The property as a whole feels a bit tired, almost like it hasn’t been refreshed in quite some time. It gives the impression that maintenance and updates may not be a priority anymore. I was also surprised that there weren’t many food options directly within the casino area, which made dining less convenient than expected.

The biggest issue was the check-in process. I arrived around 2:30 pm and ended up waiting nearly an hour just to check in. Their systems seem very dated and the process was incredibly slow, which was frustrating after a long day of travel.

On a positive note, the valet staff and attendants were absolutely lovely & friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. They were definitely a highlight of the stay.

Overall, while there are some nice aspects to the property, the slow check-in, ageing facilities, and cleanliness issues made the experience less enjoyable than it could have been.

When we arrived we received a pleasant surprise of a room upgrade. The suite had a harbour view and it was breath taking. The room itself was incredible. Marble floors, big bathroom and walk in robe. The only disappointment, we couldn't stay longer. The location was perfect with access to light rail and ferries. As a first time visitor to The Star, I dare say, we will be back.

We booked a 2 bedroom Pyrmont view suite. We didn’t get the pyrmont view but we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the balcony, the elegant rooms and the closeness to hotel amenities. We missed out on the dinner buffet, but the Harvest breakfast buffet was very good! We can’t wait to book another stay here

The check in process was exactly that. A process.
There was only 1 staff member checking people into the hotel so we had to wait approx. 20mins for our turn only to be told that our room wasn't ready and a SMS would be sent when it was ready. We received the SMS after check in time at 3.15pm. Yes, it may only be 15mins in your mind, however this room wasn't cheap and we wanted to optimize the experience and room.
Once the room was ready we then had to wait another 20min in line, with only 1 staff member checking people in to finally be given the details to our room.
Long queues and long wait times were frustrating.

From the moment I arrived via Uber, my experience at The Star was amazing. The valet and concierge staff were so welcoming, kind, and genuinely helpful, even giving me a quick walkthrough of the area and directions to the Sydney Event Centre for a concert that night. Check-in was incredibly smooth. My flight arrived around four hours early, and the team offered to text me if my room became available. I was pleasantly surprised to receive my room about 25 minutes before the 3pm check-in time, which I truly appreciated. On top of that, I was kindly upgraded from a Superior King Room to a Star Premium Suite - I was absolutely over the moon.
The suite was stunning and beautifully spacious. Everything felt thoughtful and well designed, from the fresh, clean aroma to the soft towels, cozy bathroom slippers, and spotless cleanliness. The lighting and air-conditioning controls were perfectly placed, and the bathroom was a dream, complete with a seated vanity area for skincare and makeup. The Karl Lagerfeld bathroom amenities were a gorgeous finishing touch.
The facilities were just as impressive, a well-equipped gym, relaxing pool area, and a spa that was perfect for unwinding.

Checkout was effortless, and the same concierge and valet team were there to assist with my luggage to the Uber. First off, the property is huge. It is essentially a casino with hotel and apartments bolted on. Check-in was an uninspiring process - the lady who served me didn't even bother to look up or at me, whilst asking questions, almost until the process had been completed. This may be a cultural thing, but it left me feeling flat and a little annoyed. All other staff we encountered, we most pleasant.

The room on the other hand (a city-view suite on the 15th floor) was fabulous - duplex - about 80m2 and with great views. Well-equipped with kitchen, sofas, tables, walk-in closet, great bathroom and nice, if shallow, balcony. All was spotlessly clean.

There are multiple restaurants on site, high-end jewelry shops and theatre!

The swimming pool is nice (the photo possibly exagerrates it's expanse somewhat) annd there are many loungers for relaxing - though poossibly not quite enough for high season.

Lovely vast breakfast selection - well worth the money.

All in - well worth a stay.

Fabulous hotel ! Rooms were amazing, spacious and spotless. Upgraded from superior king to premium king giving a harbour view.
Breakfast buffet was good but not great. Plenty of variety but fried eggs could have been fresher. Baked beans had very little beans left, mainly sauce. Pastries were very nice.

The room looked great pn arrival. Unfortunately the bed had a blood stain on the sheet which was very unsatisfying. It was red in colour which meant it was fresh and the sheets hadnt been washed. Disgusted. It was late when I went to bed so didnt complain. Put a towel on the sheet. So no wasnt happy at all.

Why go to so much trouble making an exceptional stay, then ruin it all by having your guests go to a hall style buffet where the staff are rude, there’s absolute chaos and customer service doesn’t exist. Ruined our stay. Giving 5 stars for the hotel and hotel staff, but 0 stars for the buffet breakfast.
