The check in is within a pub setting. It was very noisy downstairs and quite off putting to a single parent with child. The room itself was older style and somewhat sufficient for a one night stay. TH and air con worked. Weird set up with shared bathrooms and showers outside but sink inside room. No soundproofing at all so the noise from the city starts at 6 am. Blinds that don’t keep light out. Bed was clean but only 3 pillows. A sufficient but not enjoyable stay

Great place to stay. Bathrooms shared and clean. Room clean. Staff friendly. Held our bags before checkin so we could wander. Easy checkout. There will be noise because it's above a pub. AC was great white noise. Great location as a jump spot for touristy things. Reasonable price. Expect these things and it's a 5 star experience.

It looked like an older hotel. There is no hotel staff onsite so if you need assistance (like lost keys, wifi password, etc) you might be out of luck.
They have two phone numbers on the door to call for assistance but it might be a problem if you try using a cell phone from another country.
I rented one of the cheaper rooms -- it had no private shower/toilet. You essentially have to share the toilet and shower with everyone else on the floor but they were clean and functional.
It is satisfactory if the price is low. No complaints since I was doing this cheap on peak season.

No clear communication how to check in on a holiday. There was a phone # on the door that we were able to contact someone & we got let in. The staff were great - very friendly.

We have stayed here before without issue however this stay was absolutely terrible. Our first night we got very little if any sleep as the window was banging back and forth with each passing vehicle. Called the after hours number and was given a piece of cardboard to stuff in the window. The second night was even worse. 4 pieces of cardboard did not slow the banging window and to add to our frustration there was no hot water for a shower despite running the water for about 20 min. We called at checkout and voiced our displeasure. The gentleman said he couldn’t do anything for us but would have the manager reach out via a phone call. That was Tuesday, when Sunday came, no call. I called again and the lady I spoke to was aware of our complaints and was surprised the manager had not contacted me. She asked me to go through Expedia and complain but I told her the only option with Expedia would be a negative review and I didn’t want to leave one without first talking to the manager and making her aware of our terrible stay. She said she would have her call but not to expect to hear from her until Tuesday. Well shortly after hanging up the manager called. The conversation did not go well at all. She started accusing me of threatening them with a negative review and trying to hold them hostage. I hadn’t even asked for anything and in all honesty I wasn’t looking for anything except recognition of our issues and a promise they would attempt to fix them so nobody else would encounter

Ventilation is poor, and since the windows lack screens, you cannot open them, meaning towels and clothing will not dry. We also encountered significant hygiene problems (mold, insects, dirty carpet, uncleaned sheets). Crucially, there is zero assistance or housekeeping on Sundays, leaving guests stranded with issues like uncollected garbage. The serious comfort and cleanliness flaws outweigh the great location. Management of the property was contacted but are not willing to discount or refund - photos for proof on file.

In business for 175 years! The pub, especially outside is busy from 3:307 pm, very talkative after work crowd. Old woodwork, wi-fi was so spotty the TV was unwatchable, but had separate male and female bathrooms, shower rooms were lockable and not crowded. Not updated to modern hotel standards, but good price and the neighborhood is like NYC or Tokyo, so many people and shops, and places to eat. Any lack of the most modern amenities is made up by it’s 19th century building charm and close to town hall, the Queen Victoria Building shopping, the circular quay, so buses, trams and light rail in less than 500 feet away. Loved Sydney again!

Only negatives - the pub is not open on a Sunday, which is when I was checking in, & no one is there, so you have to call a number on the front door and they send someone to check you in. There was no mention of this when booking through Wotif or in their details about the hotel. I also had to call on behalf of someone waiting downstairs as they were international guests and didn't have a phone to call or know what to do.
Also there was no hairdryer in the room but the info in the room said to speak to someone downstairs to borrow one but no one was there so had to call again to ask if I could borrow one and they dropped one off to my room.
There was a note in the bathroom that the hot water can take about 10 mins to come through (due to being an old hotel) & I didn't believe it but that was right. I had to run the water for about 10mins or so before any hot water came through, so if you are in a hurry be prepared for the wait or have a cold shower.

This is an excellent location and decent price point. A very cool historic building with a ground floor pub, restaurant son the next two floors and rooms above. Feels a little time travel-y! The pub is a busy spot for lunch and happy hour, there was no noise in the room though. Everything felt clean though basic so as long as you have the right expectations you will love it. And I walked everywhere from this spot and the train station is just across the street. Staff was ok, mostly friendly. For any front desk type stuff use the bar but if it’s before or after hours they have a number. Would stay here again.

Its price in this CBD area is properly lowest - best value! Also no \"front desk\", the AC in our room was not working, I reported to the staff in bar and we did not get the AC fixed until we checked-out 2 days late.

We were disgusted with the noise all night into the early hours, we had no hot water in the shower or the hand basin, no hairdryer, the air conditioner would not heat, when I called downstairs to hotel manager, he eventually came to our room and stated the sign on the bathroom wall explained......the sign read, Due to low water pressure,you need to run the water for at least 10 mins before it will come through hot, sorry for the inconvenience !! Well, the water pressure was great, not a problem, worst is what about the amount of water being wasted.

Our room was a little too small for all the furniture they had in there. You could only open the fridge part way as it hit the bed. It was tight to maneuver around each other and the furniture.

This hotel is ideally situated for my occasional visits to Sydney. It is a true budget hotel, pretty basic and shared bathrooms, toilets etc. I only need a bed for the night and a base camp for my luggage on my visits to Sydney and the price is right for my needs.
