My 3 nights stay was 1 bedroom suite with bathroom. Because of the noise from the bar, I could sleep after 2am. The next day morning, I requested room change. FD offered me a room after 3pm. I found out water was leakng from AC. Since hotel was full house, I told FD that I would try to stay. Due to the smell from the carpet, I requested a new room at 5PM. She told me Maint would be there later and tried to fix for me. After I came back from dinner, no maint was there, I asked FD more towels to suck water out from the carpet. FD went up to check the room and confirmed the problem. I paid for the suite, so I didn't want a bunk bed with someone. Therefore, I stayed the same room. 9:30PM, construction was outside my room. I couldn't sleep, so I showed the FD the video at 10:30PM. Smell from the carpet, construction noise, and humidity, I moved to a new room with bunk bed at 11PM. I slept few hours. 4:30AM, I left the room and went back to the old room. Because of my tour at 6:45AM, I left hotel before 6AM. I told the FD the problem, and asked to text/email to me if any update. I was back around 7PM. FD told me they fixed the water leaking, but HK did not clean the room. 9PM the construction started again on my third night. I was tired and fell to sleep after shower.
I understood that you had full house, but HK or maint should check the room before you sold it the guest. If the maint fixed the problem, HK didn't fresh up the rm

Rented double bed with ensuite.

Cons: no refrigerator (Expedia advertised it), only shared kitchen (with presumably a refrigerator, I didn't check). Aircon works great but makes clicking sound when using low fan speed, ok on medium - not a problem for me.

Indifferent: Some stairs to get up then back down to the room but ok for me.

Pros: good location - close Woolworths and town hall train station / light rail, internet wifi was good, app to open doors was good (slight delay to open door but it's ok to me), good price, staff were great. Other hostel users were super friendly. Lots of activities advertised. Good noise isolation.

Notes: I didn't try the food / breakfast options.

The room was very difficult to get to with luggage. Had to take an elevator to the 2nd floor and then moved through other buildings and down15 stairs to get to room. Not convenient to get in and out.

I chose it for its price and location. Couldn’t have been better for that. Maintenance and cleaning issues that are easy to fix such as handle off shower and remote not working, shower needs a scrub not just a wipe. Do that and couldn’t fault it.

\"Unprofessional and Inconsistent Policy Enforcement – A Disappointing Experience\"

I am extremely disappointed with how this hostel enforces its policies, especially regarding alcohol. During my three-week stay, I saw multiple guests, including staff, drinking openly in the common areas with no intervention. This created confusion about the actual rules.

However, when I had six cans of beer delivered, the receptionist suddenly informed me they would be confiscated due to an alleged alcohol ban. He told me I could pick them up later, but only if I consumed them outside. This rule was applied selectively and unfairly.

When I questioned the decision, I was given unprofessional responses. The receptionist claimed not to have seen others drinking, even though he had been present when I observed it. Another staff member gave the same vague response, further highlighting the inconsistency in enforcing the rules.

This experience showed a lack of professionalism, transparency, and fairness. If rules are to be enforced, they should be applied consistently to all guests. I respect the hostel’s policies, but the way this situation was handled left me frustrated and disappointed. I hope the management improves communication and consistency in the future.

Nomads Sydney - Hostel is in an unbeatable location—walking distance to trams, ferries, and trains, as well as Chinatown, eateries, the aquarium, botanical gardens, parks, and the Opera House.

The staff, mostly travelers working for their stay, are friendly and helpful. The hostel organizes weekly activities announced via an app and intercom. This keyless hostel requires the app to unlock rooms and communicate with the front desk.

The spacious kitchen is well-equipped with cookware, stovetops, microwaves, toasters, and blenders. There are three large refrigerators with a labeling system, cleaned weekly. Free filtered water is available at the front desk.

Bathrooms are basic and not always well-maintained, sometimes running out of toilet paper—though the app makes it easy to request replacements.

The dorm-style setup is the main drawback. Beds lack privacy screens, are squeaky, and some linens had stains (though mine were clean). I stayed in the all-female dorm, which was quieter and included a vanity with free hair dryers and straighteners. These rooms are on the 4th floor, avoiding noise from the attached bar.

While not luxurious, it’s an affordable, well-located stay that gets the job done.

This place is whack lol -> they make you download an app to use as a room key which is totally fine and limits having to use key cards but the app has the world's longest delay in actually opening the doors and is really finicky to use!! The room had some kind of mold in it as we both were pretty congested and had a hard time breathing during our stay. There was only one bathroom stall and one shower for our side of the floor (probably like 20 people??). In addition the mattress and sheets were stained and funkyyyy. The staff were super nice tho and it was fairly affordable, but I think unless I was broke as I would pay to stay in a hotel next time hehe!

Rooms weren’t ready at check in. We had to wait an extra hour before housekeeping was finished.

The first room we stayed in had black mould and water damage. It smelled like stale alcohol and mould. We soon found out why there was water damage. The air con was leaking water all over the floor and splashing onto the bed.

The second night we stayed, we were moved to a different room, but this room had no working air conditioning, which was honestly the worst considering Sydney’s humidity during our stay.

We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom facilities and the standard was what you’d expect for a hostel. They were generally fairly clean.

The hostel is a maze, combining multiple buildings and it was not a fun experience to lug a suitcase across multiple sets of stairs despite it being the first floor. There is a central lift in the building though.

The hostel is attached to a pub/club called the scary canary and depending on where you are in the building, you’ll likely hear the loud music in your room, especially if the staircase doors that lead downstairs to the scary canary are open. You have to pass through the staircase in order to get to some of the rooms.

The staff were generally friendly and helpful, so they were very accommodating with the issue with the first room we stayed in. When we were waiting to check into our rooms, they came to get us from the common area so we didn’t have to wait in the foyer where there was no seating.

I was unfortunate enough to have a room on the druitt street side, the noise was horrible throughout the night from cars, trucks, people walking past, people talking on the sidewalk or at the bar. Feels like we were on the street/sidewalk below as the noise can be heard loudly from our room, just horrible and was not able to sleep at all. Maybe the hotel can do something to insulate the room from the noise coming from the outside.
Customer service was excellent and room was clean enough. Thank you.

I booked a private room at this hostel the second weekend in November. The nightly rate was very high for a hostel, but most rooms in Sydney are expensive at that time of year. First of all, the elevator was not working, and I was given a room on the third floor. The hostel clerk offered to ask someone to help me with the luggage but I declined. The private room was clean, as was the bathroom. But the bathroom was very small, and the shower did not drain properly. I had to be careful not to flood the bathroom floor whenever I took a shower. If you are looking for a basic private room, that is what it was, but at $250 per night, It definitely was not worth the rate.

Avoid on the Weekends!

I had a room in the girls sanctuary, I have previously stayed as the glam table just outside of the rooms was very convenient (free to use hair dryers/straighteners!) The room however was so hot, we had 2 floor fans going but they couldn’t really reach the upper bunk beds.
Not the staffs fault but the saturday night i stayed, some girls brought boys into the girls only sanctuary. Very drunk and very loud at 12:30am, other times i’ve stayed the club next door can still be heard into the early hours of the night. (more less avoid staying here if a weekend)

Also the elevator wasn’t working! (oct 2024) such a pain to go up 4 flights of stairs to a hot room! Like it is a cheap stay and quite central to transport, it just seems quite rundown

A lively place where you won't feel alone. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Overall the bed and the bathroom are clean, but the shower place needs to be improved. In addition, it’s also not convenient to use a mobile app to unlock the door because I have to carry the phone everywhere even when I take a shower. The room’s cleanliness highly depends on the roommates. There is always rubbish on the floor, and when I checked in the room, the only empty locker was filled with previous tenant’s clothes.

No windows/aircon in the top floor girls only rooms. 6 girls sharing one room with a really bad plug in fan. all sockets one end of the room rather than one for each individual bunk which was boiling hot. Overall areas were clean and kitchen is big. Good location if you want to be in the city.

The staff are very helpful and the rooms are clean and tidy . The shower facilities are good with hot water . This is my second stay and would recommend to stay in the female only dorms as I felt very safe travelling as a sole female traveler. The elevator are out which is my only negative but due to required maintenance that’s not the staff fault . They are very helpful in helping you with getting your luggage to your room . Very nice spot and super nice staffs, the downfall is clubbing downstairs until dawn, which makes you feel like you are sleeping on the dance floor 😂 we had a room with crossing outside, and you can hear that beeping all night long. Good lock system, good facility, everything was clean. The bed was a bit cheap but for that price I don’t expect much more.
Overall pretty nice, would suit young people.

The staff were super nice and helpful. The other guests all seemed pleasant enough, just doing their own thing in the lounge area. The room (double with ensuite) was clean, tidy and the furnishings and bedding were all in good condition, but the ensuite's water pressure was a bit low if I am to be picky. The only real let down is the noise from the Scary Canary. Rooms in the 220-30 range are best avoided as they sit directly above the bar/nightclub and sleep prior to 3am on a weekend is impossible, even with the supplied earplugs.

We paid a low price but the conditions of the room are not habitable, room 123 has no ventilation, the window is sealed, and it is located at the end of the hostel, lack of oxygen and the air conditioning does not work, they should do a deep cleaning The carpet smells like urine throughout the room, we assume it is because there is no ventilation.

I would not trust the water in this place. The place is quite old and two of the ensuites I rented the shower was cold af.. the rusty water which had a terrible color lasted for a week. The place smells bad. There are plenty of other options for better hostels than this. I will never return to this place and put it in my list of worse of the worse. True story.

It is very good for the price. The doors open with your phone which is cool but sometimes it doesnt work. The rooms are a bit outdated, they need renovation and the shared toilets are not very clean at times. They have common space where you can make new friends and socialise if you are travelling solo. The location cannot be better, it is very central. I would stay again for sure.

Never complained about accomodation before but paid over 200 dollars for 2 nights and the aircon in room provided did not work. First staff member just said all private rooms air con is bad so cant do anything. I tried with a different staff member next, she came with me to try some other rooms where air con was not working in all but 1 which we moved to. Air con stopped working in this room shortly after, went down to staff again and told nothing they can do. Asked for a fan but none available. As windows didnt open the room was ridiculously hot. Showers only provided cold water which i didnt mind as room was so hot but hot water still should be an option.

It’s filthy, old and not fit for purpose.
Location great, staff all very friendly but they need to open their eyes and tidy up. Everything from the bag storage room to bathrooms and rooms are bad. About as close to a crack den functioning as a business can get.
I get this is a backpackers but even they deserve standards. After weeks travelling around at campsites this was a last stop over before jumping on the plane home. There was more wildlife on show here than in the deepest bush areas. Showers on our floor all broken, not cleaned once in 18 hours we were checked in there, door locked but had about 5cm of movement and multiple bodge fixes where break ins (I assume) have been fixed up, badly. Buildings air duct system howled in our room all night, ear plugs were welcome. Mattress, genuinely saw a homeless guy outside sleeping on something that looked in better condition, hallways stunk, the only place that didn’t stink or had any kind of tidy Ed’s and order was reception. It’s laughably bad, even for a backpackers.
Can’t really say anything bad about staff interactions, they’re all lovely but someone should be in charge of that s$$tshow.

Once upon a time

A room for 4 bed without a window and only a fan. Within 10 minutes I was swettinv, so I was transferred to a 6 bed with AC. However, it was too small the room that there were not space to open your suitcase, in 7 days thry did not clean the room, there were no bedsheet to cover yourself only the duvet wjich has been used by the previous guess ... so it is durty! Men urinals were flowed. Showers were not clean in 7 days. No utensils in the kitchen to eat. Pricely for what you get.

Only stay if you’re looking to party

This hostel would be perfect for those who are looking to party. However if you’re looking for somewhere cheap to get an ok nights sleep, don’t stay here. The scary canary nightclub is literally right below if you’re on the first floor like we were. You’ll hear everything until very late. Terrible nights sleep for over inflated Mardi Gras weekend prices.

24 hour check in was great, although you have to download another app.
We had a small private room with a double bed and ensuite. It was extremely clean and comfortable with a nice view of the Sydney Tower. Staff were all friendly.
No parking is available so you have to pay in the nearby *expensive* Wilson parking lot (or there is free street parking parking between 10pm-8am on Saturday nights!)

It was a quiet place (except for the air conditioning).
However, the photograph of the room (on the website) was deceiving as the it did not show how small the room was.
The showers need small benches to put toiletry bags etc on so that they do not get wet and not placed onto a dirty floor.

Room for improvement, but still nice

The location was great! Just a few minutes walk within Darling Harbour, a supermarket, shopping etc and not far from Circular Quay either. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hostel was overall nice and a good place to meet people.

Though the mattress wasn't the best and a small lamp at each bed could have been nice...

great stay it was quiet and clean the staff where great...
the goki app for your key is good once i got it at 11pm it was the last thing i felt like though the staff where helpful and i liked the idea in the end. also there wasnt a towl no drama just a heads up enjoy!
