The room was wonderful. The AC didn't work well but we left the balcony door open and opened the windows and it made for a pretty good breeze. The food was not good at all. The best thing was a shrimp Alfredo that we had one day for lunch. The staff was ok. Most of them walked around with scowls on their faces but there were a few that made up for that. Gregory was very pleasant and helpful. Shevika at the front desk was wonderful and very helpful as well. Leo went out of his way to say hello every time she saw us. Rohan and Jocelyn in the restaurant/bar were very friendly. I will say though that we had a medical emergency while there and they were all very helpful with that. Even Charles the security guard that we never met went out of his way to assist. The food was not good, the pool closes at 6pm, and the pool bar was only opened 1 of the 6 days we were there. Otherwise, I would recommend this location.

Truly a slice of paradise! The serene and tranquil environment made it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, ensuring restful nights, and the food was both delicious and abundant — every meal was a treat. The hotel wasn’t bad but I was very disappointed in the all inclusive package. When thinking about all inclusive you think all you can eat and all you drink but unfortunately for us that was not the case. The meal portions are very small and every time we would ask for something extra we were denied. You could not have anything you wanted to eat or snack on through the day only at certain hours. When bringing it up with the staff we were advised that all inclusive does not mean that to them. So over all the all inclusive is worthless here and I would not go back or recommend this hotel to anyone. I spend so much money to relax and eat and instead ended up hungry half the time and paying for extra food on the outside when you can supposedly eat all you want at your all inclusive is not something that is right that is just more expense when supposedly you already had food sorted out. And the worst part is that all the staff started being rude once you complain about this issue and it was never resolved.

Disappointed & Misleading Advertising

This resort did not match the photos or descriptions advertised. We paid extra for an “ocean view” room, but the property doesn’t have any real ocean views. They also claim easy beach access, but it's actually a not-so-safe walk, and while they offer a shuttle, it only runs once an hour. When questioned about the ocean view, they stated over the years the trees have grown just enjoy the oxygen.

The location is also quite far—about an hour from town, which made getting around difficult. While the staff were friendly and tried their best, they kept saying they couldn’t make any decisions and that everything was up to a manager who was never on duty.

On the plus side, the food was great. However, the \"all-inclusive\" offering was limited to just one restaurant.

We had a wonderful stay at Sugar Cane Club! The food at both restaurants was delicious, and I especially looked forward to dessert daily (gaining 4 lbs, but totally worth it!). The lush, mature greenery made the grounds feel serene and well-maintained.

A highlight was the hidden hike we found below the swings on the way to Chattel Restaurant—a great little adventure. We also enjoyed live music on BBQ night and the guitarist at lunch, which added charm since the hotel doesn’t offer much entertainment. That wasn’t an issue for us, as we had a car and simply enjoyed each other’s company.

The resort attracts an older crowd, so if you’re looking for excitement, this may not be the place. However, if you love beautiful surroundings, spacious colonial-style rooms, friendly staff (big thanks to Juliette for going above and beyond!), delicious food, and a peaceful, romantic atmosphere, it’s perfect.

Our only issue was paying extra for an ocean-view room but being placed near the kitchen, so we could hear the preparations of every meal and the clanking of utensils and the tree coverage blocked the view because we were only on the second floor. Luckily, we were moved to a higher-floor room on night two, which we absolutely loved.

Overall, Sugar Cane Club is a fantastic choice for couples seeking a relaxing, intimate escape in a breathtaking setting!

Hotel was lovely. With only 54 rooms.
Appartment was super big and spacious.
Food was outstanding. Most nights its table service. Which beats buffet hands down.
Gardens were well kept and very pretty.
A couple of small negitives.....
The staff were sometimes very difficult during meal times. And it often seemed that they couldnt really be bothered. And much preferred to chat amongst themselves. This was just sometimes.
Also the room where you got your breakfast in the morning was tired. For a 4 star hotel i was quite shocked. It was old and worn out. But with a make over. It would be fine.
So just a few little tweeks here and there.
You had to get a cab if you wanted to go anywhere. And you could not walk down to the beach as the road isnt great. No paths for pedestrians.
The hotel supplied a shuttle bus to the beach and took just a couple of minutes to reach. And what a lovely beach it was.
Overall a lovely little hotel. But it definately caters for the more mature person. I think younger folk would get bored.
The evening singers are definately singing to the older generation.

As soon as I got here Karene at the front desk was amazing (please get her a mouse and keyboard for her carpal tunnel). Also staff such as Ricardo (gave me a lighter as I had broken mine in the sea and also always on hand to provide), Christina and Jameka were all amazing and helpful and made me feel like I was at home. What an amazing experience for a solo traveller. The hotel itself is beautiful and tucked away for a great quiet stay.
Christina is also genuinely amazing and a great member of staff :)

Specifically was interested in riding bikes. The bicycles were in poor condition, very rusty, one had to be returned due to \"no brakes\", the other, the chain kept falling off. Couldn't really ride more than 5-6 mph becuase the bike kept sifting gears. very disappointing

When we arrived mid-afternoon at Sugar Cane Club, the lobby was full of suitcases and fully dressed folks sleeping on the sofas. I guess these were post-checkout guests waiting for the night flights home, but it wasn't a very appealing sight. The front desk seemed disorganized, but after a short delay we were checked in and shown to our room. Room (401) was a large suite with a comfortable bed but otherwise dated and not very comfortable couch and chairs. A refresh is definitely in order. Also, room 401 is close to the breakfast kitchen, so there is noise (audible from the bed) from that. I imagine other rooms might be more desirable.

Sugar Cane Club has a nicely maintained pool and lawn area, with an adequate number of not-very-comfortable loungers. Most folks lounging about appeared to be Brits, enjoying themselves on package tours. So they were limited to arranged trips off the premises (like the shuttle to the beach or to town). We had a car and could escape, e.g., to eat elsewhere. Which we found essential because the one dinner we ate on site (a so-called Caribbean buffet) was awful (although the live singer was excellent). Breakfasts are good if you want fresh eggs (cooked to order), but buffet items like oatmeal and yogurt are not very appetizing. The line for the ultra-slow 4-slice toaster can get quite long.

We wanted to stay in Speightstown as a base to see the north, and SCC met our needs. Not great, but certainly OK for what we wanted.

What I found most unique about my experience here were the monkeys hopping around in the early morning. I liked that they provided a shuttle to the beach and town. They also offered different excursions on different days. We enjoyed the clear bottom boat and snorkeling tour. Some of the staff were friendly towards us but some were not.

The hotel grounds were lovely and the food at all meals was excellent. However, the majority of staff had a poor attitude and overall service was poor. Our room was in need of refurbishment, especially the bathroom, where we needed to call out maintenance on three occasions in six days. The hotel was quite isolated with no where nearby, although the free shuttle service was fairly frequent during the day.

What a fantastic place! Everyone was so lovely, and helpful, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and fell in love with Barbados. Our room was huge and comfortable, with a lovely view of the sea. The food was delicious, and there was plenty of variety. We alos enjoyed our trips to the beach in the hotel shuttle, it is stunning. We wish we'd booked for 2 weeks, and were so sad to leave. Would return in a heartbeat.

Hotel is set in beautiful well kept grounds. Staff are friendly and attentive, rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard. Good breakfast daily meals generally good, with excellent table service even if food service is a little slow.
Pool area is lovely and pool bar service good with a good choice of drinks available.
Only issue was water temperature in room could’ve been warmer and more pressure to shower, this was also noted by housekeeping.
Would stay again and recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful relaxing holiday.

The food was terrible. The lady that brought the food over to me was so sweet but aside from that the service wasn’t good. The variety of food was not good. I needed to check out early & there was no one to actually check me out. The location is also in a ducked off kind of place. The “ocean view” isn’t really actually ocean view, you are not ocean side. In fact you’re like in the middle of what seems to be open field/residential area.

Beautiful views. Extremely clean rooms and well-ordered,with lovely well-maintained gardens.
The swimming pool is a little small.
It's about 20 mins walk to the beach or there is a shuttle bus which you can book, which runs 4 or so times a day. Staff are quite helpful.
The only negatives are the wifi which is unstable and occasionally went out for hours which was frustrating. The other thing is the restaurant doesn't serve traditional Bajan food, which is a shame. And portions are quite small.
Overall, a very tranquil and very clean resort.

Loved the pool, the facilities and the walk in the gully and to be fair breakfast was excellent, proper English served and the fish cutter at lunch qas top notch. Let down by poor evening meal (frozen or very poo cuts of tuna) and some staff members being just off with you, would say even rude. Shame has lots of potential. Bar staff always excellent and accommodating. Overall great value from money on the AI.

Sugar Cane and Spa was amazing! We took the all inclusive package and the food and drinks were incredible far better than most.

It is definitely an older crowd and in a quieter area of the island but that did not bother us and it is not impossible to get around if you feel like exploring . The Hotel offers a free bus shuttle to the secluded and beautiful Heywoods Beach and Speightstown where they stop at a larger bus terminal that can take most places on the island. That being said not much is walkable, but if you’re just looking to unwind for a few days and escape the busier areas Sugar Cane is for you! We did not have a chance to use the spa services but they looked lovely and we really enjoyed the pool and Gully Walk. Amazing resort grounds and awesome staff would go back tomorrow!

This property is located to the north of barbados in a small town, away from the activity and action of Bridgetown. The hotel has been there for a while but is well maintained (particularly the grounds).
The room was nicely laid out with a sitting area, kitchenette and bedroom (queen bed, not king). The ac unit was in need of servicing and started to leak on our last night there.
The majority of the staff were very pleasant and helpful (all except one really).
Food was mainly good, nice variety, except for breakfast, which could have had more options. Drinks were flowing.
Activities - everyone should take advantage of the gully walk, it was a mini hike and quite informative. I would skip the glass bottom boat and just go to the beach (not much to see during the boat tour). One thing that can be improved is the info on the beach club. While their shuttle takes you to their beach club and sets up sun loungers, the hotel should let guests know the beach at the club is rocky and not for swimming. There is a lovely white sand beach just up the road which we ended up walking to, just no facilities or loungers.
This hotel caters to an older crowd and mostly cruisers. As a younger couple, we were an anomaly, but we enjoyed the peace, relaxed vibe and attentive staff.
Overall good hotel, if you want to enjoy a quiet vacay.

We really enjoyed our week’s stay at the hotel. They accommodated us at very short notice. Most of the staff are lovely and friendly. The beds and furniture in the lounge are comfortable. There was a well equipped kitchen with large fridge freezer and full sized cooker if you wanted to self cater. Plenty of sunbeds and shaded areas, even when the hotel is full. The pool area lean and spacious. Most guests seem to be on all inclusive. We self catered but enjoyed the buffet and manager’s cocktail party at the pool. We would love to return.

Beautiful property. Quiet and clean. The staff were nice but not very helpful. No one gave us any information about things to do on the island or tours or anything. We got all of our helpful information from the bar tenders, taxi drivers and locals in the town. If we wanted info from the hotel reception, we had to ask. My husband and I are a young black couple in our 30s. All of the other hotel guests that we saw were older and White British and we immediately noticed that staff went above and beyond for them but not us. The food was mediocre and over priced. The best food is the local food. This hotel gets a 3 for the cleanliness, beauty and peace that we wanted. The bar tender and 2 younger female receptionists get a 5 as they were the only friendly staff. Beautiful island and we had a great time exploring the beaches and being in the towns! We will definitely be back but we’ll stay at a different property.

Not worth the cost

The front receptionist Kareem was fantastic. She got us settled in as we arrived earlier than standard check in time.
The hotel itself is ok, but far from the hustle and bustle of the island. It’s half hour drive from cruise terminal. The prices we paid for the food was over the top. The night we arrived they were offering an international buffet which cost us $105 usd and wasn’t worth it! I was almost done eating by the time the girl came by with water and a drink. And that price didn’t include a drink. The breakfast buffet wasn’t much cheaper.
I asked for a substitute at dinner one night and the girl said no problem. Then we got charged for the substitution. I kinda choked that every turn it was an additional cost. I had only asked to substitute the coke slaw for some fried plantains which weee the same price I’d you lurched them separately off the menu. I understand wanting to make some money and not giving things away, but it was a bit much for our standards and tastes: we would not recommend this hotel unless you want to be away from the beach in an area away from the hustle and culture of the island.
We also had an incident where the bathroom stunk and my wife thought it was me… when I explained that it couldn’t have been me, she was puzzled. It happened a few more times… turned out to be the toilet, but we’re not sure if the staff did anything to fix it because no one ever followed up with us after we reported it tot he front desk?

We would stay here again if we return.

We stayed for four nights before joining a cruise. We loved the peace and feeling of being in the jungle. We didn’t use the facilities as we had a car and toured the island.
The free drink on arrival was welcome but lacking enough rum in the punch. We found amazing cocktails at the fish pot restaurant, where we sat in comfy chairs on the beach to watch the sun go down.

I enjoyed my stay at Sugar Cane Club. Very relaxing, friendly and pleasantly quiet. You hear the birds, see the moon and the sky change color as the sun sets. In my opinion its best for couples yet I really got to chill, read, walk, sunbathe, bike, swim, visit and unwind. I would return there again for those reasons.

We liked the sense of peace - the property is well away from the hustle and bustle of Bajan life. We appreciated the time to chill and relax.
We were less happy with the length of time it took for hot water to emerge at the taps and shower. Such a waste of a precious resource.

My stays at SCC never disappoint. The hilltop view of the sea (walkable to beach), Chattel restaurant overlooking a gully with trails and monkeys, expansive and well manicured grounds that are scattered with gazebos and charming swings, make for a very serene, chill vibe.
Top notch service, with staff going over and above to please.
I’ve stayed in a few different types of rooms there and in my most recent stay, I chose a lower tier room and I was pleasantly surprised by the huge room, it’s amenities and massive private patio. The larger suites with kitchenettes have been great in the past for longer stays as they are well equipped.

We stayed 2 days to wait for our covid test results. (We got them in less than 24 hrs)
But for the next 24hrs we had no water. A pipe busted. No shower no toilet nothing. They offered to open another room for us to shower in...not stay in, only shower...no real apology no accommodation, no compensation.
Food was over priced for the portion size. Restaurant prices but side item dishes. Everywhere in barbados the dollar is 2 to 1. But at the hotel, 1.90...
Nice pool but ver secluded so no other anemities around.

Stayed during Corona virus epidemic. Quarantined in room for first three and a half days and had to have all food delivered to room from a preset menu that never changed except for New Years Eve dinner.

However the staff were excellent considering the restrictions in which they were working.

I stayed in one of the Covid-19 rooms, as I was traveling from the states. If this is what a Covid-19 room is like I can just imagine the other rooms. My room was spacious and had everything I needed. I will definitely stay here again.

Truly a Retreat with a Great Front Desk Supervisor

Some initial Check-in areas for improvements, but they were dealt with fairly quickly, and I appreciated Mrs Braithwaite taking the time to phone and discuss with me.
Michelle - Front Desk Supervisor - is an absolute star and a treasure to Sugar Cane.
Having someone call and ask for my breakfast and lunch orders before I even thought about it was lovely.
As I was on a 3 day quarantine, there were a few housekeeping points that were written on the Hotel instructions, but were not fulfilled - replacement garbage bags; washing up liquid & pad - considering that I was on 3 day isolation and needed to keep my room clean myself.
This hotel is part of a wider brand that also includes Taxi services, but at a much higher price than local offerings.
That's acceptable Airport to the Property, but I feel the taxi from Property to another part of the island - a much shorter ride - was overpriced.
Generally a nice hotel in a quiet place spot on the outskirts of Speightstown if you want a time of tranquillity and reflection.

nice quiet spot. hotel not really operational b/c of covid. understaffed, but those that are there are really nice. food is underwhelming yet fully priced, again could be due to very low occupancy. it's a bit out of the way if you're looking for nearby restaurants etc.

Nice hotel north island. Older crowd. Very quiet. No pool use after 6pm disappointing after a long flight. Food bragged about was satisfying but not brag worthy. Stay on the all inclusive package if you can to make it more affordable as location is quite remote. Room was lovely. Nice efficiency kitchen and super comfortable bed with balcony and patio. AC a bit noisy but quite nice overall. They offer shuttles to the beach for ease of travel. Staff awesome! All in all very good.

Shuttle bus is a great help as the hotel is a 15 min walk from local buses .
Adults only makes this a perfect relaxing place to stay and nothing is too much trouble for the staff
