The service from every member of staff who we spoke to was excellent. They went above and beyond. The breakfast was fantastic. There was an excellent choice of good quality food. Our room was upgraded and was very comfortable. It was easy and convenient to get to the city centre on public transport. I would definitely return and recommend.

I've stayed at the Clarion a few times for business trips and always enjoy it. Staff are friendly and welcoming, the hotel is clean and has nice amenities, and the rooms are always clean and comfortable. It's not in the most convenient of places but the ferry is right nearby and it's easy for taxis to find.

Very good hotel for a reasonable price.

Hotel is located a bit far from the main city, but there is a free ferry which is a 5 minute walk away. Lots of construction in the area, which makes finding the hotel and parking a maze.

Speaking of parking, its probably the most high tech parking garage I have ever seen, you can book it in advance, they email you a link, and it activates the day of check in, just press open door and the garage door opens in a very fancy dual door fashion. Extremely secure and cool !

The rooms are a bit hit or miss. Our room on first stay was on the lower floor, had nice carpet and seemed really new. Second time we got an upper floor room, no carpet and seemed not that clean or new.

They also have a great breakfast ! Everyone we met was friendly.

Switched to this hotel and was absolutely glad I did. Right from the entrance I was welcomed and helped by Vanna who was great. Easy check in and was told about all the amenities of the hotel and area. The room was outstanding and very comfortable, maybe the best bed I’ve slept on from any hotel ive stayed at. The restaurant was great and free breakfast was amazing. Front desk was always present and helpful. Great location as it was super easy to get anywhere I wanted to go and felt very safe. I would definitely stay here next time I’m back in Gothenburg.

Parking was a bit difficult to find (it’s next to hotel and you have to drive up on sidewalk to enter using the app — pre-paid spot).

Enjoyed the gym and sauna/relax room.

Mon-Fri there’s a free boat across the street into city center.

Nice hotel in good location.

The Pier is in a good location if you like it quiet although getting to the city centre is just across the water. Check in and out was friendly and professional. The hotel is well maintained and very clean. The room was comfortable and spacious. The breakfast had an excellent and varied choice. Although it was very busy with AC/DC in town the staff coped well and still managed to make everything run smoothly. The only advice I would give is to book your car parking (if you require it) as soon as possible.

A great (extended) stay. Clean, quiet, and the staff is very nice. They don’t sweat the small stuff. The complimentary breakfast is really good. The location requires a bike or bus into the center but it’s not even an inconvenience. Don’t bother parking in their garage, there’s plenty of safe parking in the surrounding lots.

The hotel was at capacity and the dining amenities are not the right size for a full hotel.

Stayed during the Gothia Cup and a few teams of children were staying and were particularly noisy in the evening. Many people complained to the staff who seemed unable to control the kids or get in touch with the team leaders.

Good enough hotel but if it’s a busy time in Gothenburg maybe choose one with better amenities more suited to the capacity.

I’m sure the hotel runs fine at any other time of the year. But sadly I stayed for 7 nights during the Gothia cup. The hotel was clearly at capacity and hadn’t recruited accordingly.
I had to ask reception how often they change towels as by day 4 I hadn’t had them changed.
The receptionist told me they’d pay more attention to my room.
I was left without toilet paper twice.
The worst part was the unsupervised children. I regularly saw families waiting their turn to complain about the bad behaviour but unfortunately the hotel didn’t have the facilities to deal with it.
In future the hotel really should think about a security guard in the evenings to patrol the hallways to avoid the worst kids ruining everyone’s stay.
It wouldn’t take much to remedy and I hope for next year they make some changes.

Wonderful hotel with the most friendly and helpful staff. They were certainly the highlight and reason for returning. Only downside was not having a bedside table and socket/usb-c plus to charge phone. Made it very uncomfortable and inconvenient. This Hotel is modern and to a very high standard. Breakfast is always included and we have never seen such a huge range of dishes available. As pedestrians we were able to use the free ferry service to the city centre which runs every 20 minutes from a dock 150 metres from the hotel.

Amazing view of downtown Gothenburg from our 7th floor immaculately kept room. Very new hotel in an up and coming neighborhood so there was a bit of construction nearby although we barely noticed it. Breakfast and staff were wonderful. Freddie was especially kind and helpful. Incredibly comfortable bed and we even had a full size soaker tub in our bathroom, making it feel even more luxurious. New fluffy towels and bathrobe. Hotel is across the waterway so it's quite a bit further from downtown than most other hotels. We took a ferry or water taxi to reach downtown which made it more of an adventure getting around. Would definitely stay at this lovely hotel again our next time in Gothenburg!

Had a great stay at Clarion Hotel - The Pier. Clean spacious room for 3 adults. We had a beautiful view of the downtown. Excellent buffet breakfast. Good restaurants within walking distance near hotel and easy access to downtown via bus or ferry (free at certain times). Gym was well equipped and sauna was great (robe and slippers provided). Customer service was excellent. Kajsa and Karen at front desk were exceptional - very helpful and welcoming. I would highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is located across the water from the City center - there’s a FREE ferry that crosses non-stop from outside the hotel. The property is kept immaculate and has everything you could need for a pleasant stay. Aleksandra helped us with information regarding a landmark we were trying to locate - she was friendly, knowledgeable and very kind. The breakfast buffet is well balanced with plenty of choices. They have a roof top bar with great views of the harbor and the city. An absolute no brainer if you’re looking for a great place to spend a few days in Gothenburg.

Good but improvement needed

Stayed 2 nights with a celiac daughter. The hotel has a allegry corner in the breakfast area which is nice BUT the area is not marked in a proper way, i.e: the supposed gluten - free dedicated toaster is approached by people with regular bread and used, so there is 100% certainty of cross contamination which is a problem when you are a celiac. Additionally there was a problem when I asked for scrumble eggs from scratch to avoid cross contamination, so to sum it up I think there is a big area for improvement in this area. Especially in a hotel at this level (stayed in another hotel in Gothenburg and the labeling was much better).

Very nice, clean and comfortable hotel.
Staff both at reception and kitchen very very helpful and professional.
Not that far from the city, short 5 min ride on the free ferry or if you take the bus it takes a few minutes more.
Hotel has a car park which you need to pre book otherwise there are a few car parks in the vicinity which are a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Barman on the rooftop bar was super friendly and chatty, genuine interest in conversation. The room was comfortable, we were given a water view and the hotel was just what we wanted. Sadly we only stayed 1 night on our way to Oslo but would come back to Gothenburg and this hotel in particular. Great breakfast and very relaxed hotel.

Clean and modern hotel with very helpful staff. But the location is a hidden gem the views of the city from the roof top bar are fantastic. The ferry to main tourist part of city is now very convenient and adds to the experience. Would stay again, breakfast great too

Great hotel

Really lovely hotel, was upgraded at check in, and the room was lovely. very good walk in shower, Ritual amenities, a minibar/fridge, tv etc.
Very bouncy bed, with big pillows & warm quilts.
There was a hairdryer, iron & ironing board in the room, together with a kettle and tea/coffee etc.
As others have said, not very bright in the room, but enough light for most.
Had a big window with a side view of the river, which was nice.
A bit of construction going on at the side of the hotel, but nothing too disturbing.
Breakfast was fab, lots of choice of cold stuff, juices, coffee etc, and always bacon & scrambled or boiled eggs, beans.
Whole hotel is fairly new, and everyone was extremely friendly & helpful
The ONLY drawback to this hotel is it's in the business district, so nothing nearby, and you would need to walk to a tram/bus to get anywhere, but we used Uber, who are plentiful & reasonable
Overall a fab few days, and would definitely stay here again if in Gothenburg

A great short break away

Beautiful hotel, a bit of a walk to get there (unless you taxi) but from the public boats only around a mile. Beautiful rooms and furniture, not huge amounts of storage space for the longer stay, but ample for a weekend/short city break. Food was delicious and the bar area is very comfortable. Would definitely stay here/in one of their sister hotels again

Excellent breakfast buffet; would have enjoyed trying the Chinese restaurant on 10th floor, but the first night they had no tables available until 9:30; and they were closed on Monday evening. Loved the super large pillows, great view of the river from our room.

My honest review…

Overall OK, but few things were very frustrating.
Arrived at the hotel and was told No parking available. Apparently there are only 25 parking spots in total for a hotel with over 200 rooms, and all were occupied. This hotel is far from central and I booked this hotel so that parking wouldn’t be a problem. But parking became a problem as I was told to use a parking further down the road in connection to another building or drive 5-10 minutes away to find a garage parking. Expect to pay around 20-30€ extra for parking and make sure to book in advance.

Other comments:

-Room is painted in a “trendy”’green/gray colour. Looks great in a magazine, I’m sure… but feels really dark and room lighting is poor. Suggest you bring a bright flashlight 🔦 😂

- Rooms are small considering its remote location.

- Breakfast was superb I have to admit.

- Rooftop bar was good and nice views.

- Didn’t try the Chinese restaurant (Fei) but had a quick look. It had an open kitchen in somewhat traditional cantonese fashion. The chefs however were not Chinese and were shouting some general conversations out loud. Super ridiculous and a big turn-off.

Hotel was slightly off the beaten track. Had to take a bus or ferry to get into city center. Did not realize how far hotel was and was not within walking distance.
Hotel was very modern and rooms and bathroom very pleasing. Hotel staff were great, friendly and accommodating.
Disappointing in restaurant choice though. Only Chinese dining available for dinner and I don’t eat that cuisine. Roof bar was open and they did snacks but they weren’t that good either.
Big construction site outside our window had no views at all.
Shame as the hotel was nice and modern but needs to do better for food and drink.
They have a lovely bar in the lobby which was closed and the dining area in lobby was used for breakfast buffet.
Hotel was busy so it suits a lot of people, just didn’t work for us.

Be warned - the Bar/restaurant/room service!

We decided to visit The Clarion - Pier for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Arrived late on Saturday - everything closed including room service. Following day we came back to find the restaurant was closed until AFTER we would have flown back. Bar was only open until 9.00pm and room service stopped at 8.30pm. My frustration is that nothing warned us! The hotel is not central and there was nowhere close or easy to get to to source alternatives. Really spoilt our stay.
