The hotel/stay/staff was great, HOWEVER, I gave them 1 star because the bathroom on the 5th fl was horrible when I got there.. Had to go to 4 bathroom stalls before I could use it. Piles of tissue just on the floor!!!

The restaraunt:
Ordered the Harlem Waffle and chicken. The chicken was not cooked hard. So my roommate and I asked for our chicken to be cooked “Harder” ( my roommate picked of her chicken ). They returned to the table after we inquired because it was taking so long…with the same chicken that we touched and PICKED OFF
OF!!! NASTY… They re-cooked the same chicken we touched/ate!!!!

Housekeeping removed the bodywash cleanser bottle from the room and never returned it.. good thing we had our own bodywash.

But I just dont understand how they thought it was ok to re-cook food that guest has touched/eaten and reserve it !!!!!

I liked everything about the room except for the fact that there was only one chair in the room. For 2 people, it was impossible to sit together in the living area so I requested another chair but was told for security reasons that won’t be allowed. We had to sit on the bed to drink our coffee and sometimes eat our late night meals. Absolutely not okay ……

Located in the heart of Harlem, this hotel had everything. I think that you could want an amazing restaurant. Great music.And the famous apollo theater downstairs. This hotel preserves 10 stars and is a must for any out of town visitor or for any New Yorker looking for a in town Vacation or special night with their loved ones.

The hotel is fine as a building. The front desk was great. The older gentlemen in the lobby was a charming representative of Harlem itself. The “restaurant” was not well run. Service was wack and they just didn’t seem to care about the diners it was about the bar. That is fine but then don’t make it a restaurant too because it’s not being run like anyone actually cares.

The hotel oversold the rooms and apparently that means the hotel gets to pick and choose who they want to lie to. My room was supposed to be ready at 12, it wasn’t. I literally chose to come stay here because of the bar. Unfortunately I couldn’t see past the horrible front desk experience. I was hoping to like this place so that my family and friends would have a comfortable stay while in NYC. I will never stay here again or subject people that I love to this place. The room I was promised was not what I was given. The lady tried to gaslight me and manipulate the situation. People think I’m extremely young but I’m not and try to treat me poorly based on my appearance. Save yourself the headaches and don’t book here. Here’s the list of things that were not working: the TV wouldn’t go any louder than like a quarter of the volume, there was no refrigerator unless you want to pay $10 per day, there’s one microwave on a certain floor, the noise from the street and sirens at all hours of the day and night, and the food gave me food poisoning. This was my first impression of Harlem and it’s not a good one.

My stay at the Renaissance Hotel in Harlem was honestly such a vibe. The location is perfect—right in the heart of everything, with easy access to food spots, shopping, and the energy Harlem is known for. The hotel itself felt modern and clean, and the aesthetic gave just enough luxury without feeling over the top.

The room was comfortable, nicely designed, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The bed? Super cozy—definitely gave me a good night’s sleep. I also appreciated how quiet it was, considering how lively the area can be.

Customer service was solid. The staff was welcoming and helpful, making check-in and the overall experience smooth. You can tell they’re used to taking care of guests and keeping things running efficiently.

If I had to point out anything, it would be that parking and pricing in the area can be a little tricky—but that’s just New York in general, not really on the hotel. The front desk staff will provide a list of parking garages that are nearby.

Overall, I’d definitely stay here again. It’s a great mix of comfort, location, and style—perfect for a getaway, whether you’re visiting the city or just doing a little staycation.

Wonderful stay here. Rooms were spacious and clean. We had the city view and loved looking out to watch the sunset and sunrise. Having such a lively bar/lounge in the hotel was such a plus as we were there during a bit of a cold and rain front. So not having to leave the hotel was great. Will definitely stay again.

We needed a hotel near Columbia Univ. and were very disappointed with our stay at this hotel. We had 2 rooms which were very expensive especially since this has a 4 star rating. If we needed to use a microwave it was located on a different floor but at least there was no charge. If we needed a small refrigerator (an additional charge) they also were on a different floor.
One room didn't have a closet, only one rod perpendicular to the wall with a few hangers in the bathroom. The concrete looking floor had stains all over and no carpet whatsoever in one room. Just a runner at the foot of the bed in the other. The corners were full of lint and cobwebs behind the curtains on the window sills. The restaurant was very expensive with not a very varied choice on the menu, especially for teens and children. We will never stay there again or recommend it. However, staff was very nice.

Location was perfect for us. Property was nice and the staff was excellent....attentive and thoughtful. The property is older and shows its age a bit but the overall appearance was nice. Only issue was how slow the elevators were.....one time it took 7 minutes and another time 5 minutes. All other times it was there withing a couple of minutes. The bar was lively and lots of fun.

The hotel was nice and the staff were wonderful, however, I have never been in a hotel where there is no privacy in the bathroom. From the bedroom you see the back of the mirror and the cabinet, but there is a space between the mirror and the cabinet for no privacy. Then the bathroom door only goes to the cabinet so a quarter of that wall is open. If you're alone, I guess it will do but it doesn't work with more than one person in the room or if you have a visitor. WTH
One last thing, I would never have booked with Expedia if I had known I wouldn't get points for my stay. No more booking with Expedia. I will book through the hotel or through Marriott Bonvoy. $1000 for 3 nights and no reward points. Never again.

This hotel is beautiful. We stayed here during a mourning time for our family. The staffwas very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean. We were given two $25 restaurant vouchers, which we didn’t get to use(We’ll take advantage next time).Our room view was from the 12th floor overseeing 125th street which was plus. The only thing I would do different is to book a room with accessibility. The bathrooms are a lot bigger than the standard room. Overall rating 4.7 out of 5.

Friday morning, April 10 there was no hot water. I don't know how long it was out, I just know when I tried to take a shower at about 7:30am there was no hot water. I called the front desk and they were unapologetic and said there was an inspection and nothing they could do. I was given no warning, (maybe I could have showered earlier) and told that they would call me when the hot water was restored. I waited about 30 minutes but had to go, so I wiped myself down with a cold wet wash cloth. When I requested compensation they said no and were unsympathetic. I think it's unacceptable when I paid over $300 per night.

The food was great but bar staff was slow. First night had no heat and had to get maintenance to come fix. Second day, their boiler was down so had absolutely no hot water for shower.
Overall not bad stay after initial hiccups were fixed only because I stay longer than normal. If I was only there for weekend, it would have been miserable.

The hotel is nice and centrally located. Staff can use additional training in hospitality. Not at all up to the Marriott brand. Especially front desk...very disappointing. For example, I checked out early on March 28 due to not feeling well. The desk clerk on staff kept telling \"was not getting my money back\" (I never requested a refund), I requested a copy of my folio to ensure there were not any unauthorized charges...she refused.

I stayed here in December of 2025. They have tried to steal money from me twice now by charging two separate credit card for $500 dollars. The last fraudulent transaction they did was 2 weeks ago. This is 3 months after I stayed there that they are trying to steal and hoping costumers don’t notice. I’ve called numerous times, sent emails and left voicemails and I do not get any replies. Be careful staying here and make sure to check your transactions after you stay here.

Be prepared for lots of incidental charges. My booking was canceled because they tried to charge the first night prior to my arrival and did not succeed. My daughter rebooked. They refused to issue an itemized bill on check out preferring to show you the balance due on the screen. Very unprofessional in that regard.
