The property is what it is for what it is and at the rates for the urgency I needed. But having my demographic information read OUTLOUD as I am being processed-was a violation of my privacy, security, and frankly disrespectful. Furthermore, to add insult to injury. They gave me a room key that was wrong. When I came back to the lobby to explain that. It was as if I lied. Only for them to go check themselves that I was NOT lying. And issued the correct room key. Not only was I uncomfortable with what happened. I ended up leaving and sleeping else where after i already paid to stay. I left 4 hours into my stay! Highly alarming experience for others in the lobby to be dictated my credit card info my address and that I didn't live in town etc. Enough said.

Great location, but the listing on Hotels.com is not accurate. The listing states that there is an in-room safe and that there is in-room climate control (air-conditioning), neither of which are accurate.

I also scalded my hip when I got out of the shower because the hot water pipe that runs from the ground floor all the way up to I presume the top floor, is right beside the shower as you get out and it's a narrow bathroom.

It is in a great neighborhood and well priced for NY, but I was disappointed that I had to be sure to carry my iPad and valuables with me instead of being able to lock them in a room safe.

The hotel is in a nice neighborhood, and I picked it for its proximity to where I was going and it’s very reasonable price. But it was run down inside. Still, it was clean. The guys at the desk were just as nice as they could be.

This hotel is an excellent value. The staff is great. We left behind a pair of glasses. They found them and quickly shipped them to us. The location is great. We stayed here for a Beacon Theater show, and many restaurants and bars are within a short walk. Subway station is close by for the 1 train that connects to Penn Station. The small rooms are crammed with furniture, but the space works just fine.

The Property itself is extremely old and in desperate need of a renovation. The carpeting in the room is extremely worn, and there was also a lot of dust in the corners where you could tell the the floors weren’t being cleaned properly. The table in the room wasn’t clean and the chairs were very worn. For the price we paid we didn’t expect anything too extravagant, but this room was extremely underwhelming and disappointing. There was no ventilation in the small cramped bathroom, and it didn’t even have a tub. The only way to bathe was to use a prison like stand up shower. The linen on the beds had burn marks from cigarettes when it was a non smoking room. The sheets looked dirty and soiled, and we found hair the moment we pulled them back. There was hair on the towels which didn’t look very clean. While the staff was very friendly at check in and check out, the hotel, amenities and overall stay was a disappointment.

The room is incredible tiny with no sound proof. you can hear every thing that is being said in the halls as though you're right next to them. The shower pressure is good but the water temp isn't consistent. Good location, would only recommend if you can not find anything else.Photos online are deceiving of what the place is really like.

They do not explicitly mentioned they do not have parking included, which was a really bad start taking the consideration we had 14 hours road trip along with kids and my parents.

However one of the staff (an Asian guy, I believe his name was Afran) has taken out his own car from a public spot and gave it to me, and mentioned he would be fine. This was an amazing kindness gesture unfortunately you don’t see very often nowadays.

This guy for sure went an extra mile to satisfy customers, very good.

Stay #2 for a Yankee Vacation

This is my 2nd trip to this property. 2 adults, 1 - 10 year old, and 1 - 15 year old who is an adult in his size. We had 2 rooms with a connecting bathroom. 4 twin beds total - trundle beds! We were in NYC for 2 baseball games and some good food, so a room fit for a king was not needed. However, there was a small table, 2 chairs, a fridge, and microwave - this came in handy when we were too tired to go out and had food from Zabars in the room for a meal - 2 short blocks from hotel. The rooms are small, the beds are small, the rooms are old, the hotel is old, but I did find it clean. Window unit A/C worked well for us. The WIFI was more miss than hit, but the TV was working very well if we needed to be entertained or to check the weather and news. The staff was great. This property has 2 main selling points - location & price. A third, for me, would be 4 twin beds - great for our party. Location - Upper West Side, in a nice quiet neighborhood. 79th St 1 train is a 3 block walk. Yankee Stadium was a 30 minute subway trip and Penn Station was a 10 minute trip. Natural History Museum is an easy walk and Central Park as well. Across the street from the hotel is Riverside Park - a hidden gem to walk. And the my deciding factor - the price. NYC - 4 people, 4 beds, 2 very small rooms, Upper West Side. I would rather spend my money on activities and food and find a cheap, clean, ideally situated hotel, and that is what I have found in this property.

I liked the small room. It had the basic things I needed. My only problem was three days that I had smelly sheets placed on my bed. The first night it happened I ignored it because I thought it was just my imagination. The second night I took the sheet off my bed and wrapped up with a towel. The third night I called the front desk in the middle of the night to complain, and they sent me some clean sheets. I had the guy to smell the sheets so he could see that I was not being difficult. My stay was for two weeks, so I had not had this smelly sheet problem before. The first few nights of my stay I did wake up with a few bug bites.
The staff was very nice, and the location was excellent. The M5 bus stops right in front of the building on Riverside Drive, and it can take you to Harlem and Downtown Manhattan. That was a plus for me when the trains were unbearable. The air conditioner was a life saver because of the heat wave. It gave me life!

They say that this is not a good place for kids, well take it from me, it’s not. There was a baby on my floor that cried a lot. The walls are thin, so the cries of a baby will keep you up at night. Please don’t bring babies here. The elevators are very tiny and slow. I took the stairs a few times because I was just on the 8th floor. The elevators does not look wide enough to fit a wheelchair or those big bulky baby strollers.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay. I hope to stay here again in the future.

This Hotel is definitely no frills! It’s not. Updated and doesn’t have the amenities one would expect at a hotel. Its an old charming building and with that comes what one would expect from an old charming building. A rickety elevator a regular key for the doors a phone dating back to the 80’s :). However, the location is exceptional, the staff friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned well everyday. For upper west side New York you can’t beat the price. I recommend if you don’t need amenities.

Bed and bathroom were perfectly fine and functional, but small. I would not hesitate to come back to this place. Great value for the money, by NYC standards and the location cannot be beat

The hotel is conveniently located on the upper west side and the rates were about the lowest available for rooms with private bathrooms.

That said, it is a bare bones kind of place. The bed was comfortable and the room seemed clean; however, there was a big plumbing access hole in the bathroom wall (a jerry-rigged cover for it had fallen off and was sitting on the floor), and the bedside table was a folding tv tray table. The AC was about 4' from my head and was very loud. The door to the room is just a wooden hollow core door with no security lock--not sure how this meets code! The single room is tiny.

My room was very quiet once the AC was off.

Front desk staff were very nice and check in/check out was easy and quick. Zabar's is two blocks away if you want a quick breakfast or to get snacks for the little fridge in the room.

First off, they have no double or queen beds as Hotels.com will tell you. SO, it's twins or find a different hotel. The hotel is in a great location and the bathroom was remodeled and the bed was comfortable but the rest of the hotel is run down. It is clean, however.

Very convenient and great area. Reception staff were helpful, friendly and delightful. I had a single room (i.e. single bed) with a mattress that was not too comfortable. Tiny floor space. Loud noise from generator outside. Overall - convenient given the lack of options in this area. Very strange and useless shelf fitting in the bathroom - see pic. Not much sound proofing between the rooms - so all noises and conversations carry.

Puts New York City at your feet

While our room was quite small (probably less than 100 sq. ft., including the 18 sq. ft. bathroom), it was clean, quiet, equipped with refrigerator, microwave, TV, double bed and desk, and had a GREAT view of Riverside Park and the Hudson River. Furthermore, we were 5 minutes' walk from the subway, upper Broadway, & Zabar's; a 13-minute walk from three great museums (Amer. Museum of Natural History, Hayden Planetarium, New-York Historical Society), Central Park, Lincoln Center and another subway line; and a short bus ride to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Frick Museum, and 5th Avenue's museum mile. What's not to love? This is a FABULOUS location for touring Manhattan! The staff is very friendly and responsive to requests for help. The building is old, carpets are a little tired, paint job has nicks, dinks and peels -- but if you want to be out-and-about, you're only sleeping and showering there anyway, and for that, the Riverside Tower is a fine budget choice. Although we don't have small children, we met several families on the (small) elevator, so even a family could have a (cramped) adventure there.

There was free street parking however someone scratched my car parking.
The view of the park was wonderful. The beds didn't look great but we're actually quite comfortable.
I would stay there again for sure. I had the time of my life while in NY. So I'm definitely happy with my stay.

Well, I read the reviews before staying here so I was prepared. The rooms ARE small and so are the elevators. It WILL get warm in the room if the heat is on (it was on during our stay) but we opened the windows and I also brought my travel fan which helped with temperature and noise. Check in was fine, service was friendly and pretty quick, and the rooms were clean as was the bathroom. Bed was comfortable. For the price I feel it was a good value. Oh, and we parked on the street nearby for free!! $50+ bonus! I would stay again.

The good, the bad and the in between.

The hotel and rooms are cleaned daily and the staff is very nice, helpful and multi-lingual. It is an old hotel and pretty run down. The rooms are tiny and you can't control the heat, which goes off and on in cycles resulting in an often over heated room. The location on the upper west side is great, two blocks from Broadway and a subway stop for the #1 train. Lots of restaurants and boutiques in the area. The wi fi is strong and fast. It is the cheapest hotel with a private bathroom I could find in Manhattan so obviously has plusses and minuses.

NYC WORST HOTEL

This hotel is very deceiving online. We request twin beds because there were no king. When we arrived our room was a small double bed, room so small one could hardly turn around. Desk person, very very nice, gave us a Suite (joining rooms) One room had a twin bed, 8 steps from wall to wall. Second room, double bed with the same amount of space. Had to ask for kleenex which they did not have. Desk clerk took out a small packet she had in her purse. No clock, radio, nothing but chipped paint, torn blankets, elevator so small and dirty only two people could fit in it. Other guest were wondering when the roaches were going to come out. The desk service was excellent. I would think that they must have been embarrassed once guests saw their rooms. The only redeeming quality was the view out of the window in a very hot stifling room and blocks from subway and a wonderful place called Zabars. I would never, ever recommend this place to anyone. I can not believe they actually advertised in the Boston Globe. Shame on them for making this look like such a great place on line!

I stayed at the Riverside Tower Hotel for the night of Saturday December 1, 2018 in room 8 on the fourth floor. The room was clean, and comfortable, and the hotel staff were friendly. The hotel is in a nice location, within about a 7 minute walk to several restaurants on nearby Amsterdam avenue, and to the 79th Ave metro station.

Clean, quiet, safe, small, budget friendly

So, if you are looking to stay in Manhattan and not break the bank, and don’t need amenities, this is a good place.
We went for Thanksgiving weekend. There was one adult and two kids (one teenager and one almost teen). We had a ‘suite’ which had one room with a double bed, and an adjacent room which served as the other bedroom/workspace/kitchenette (small fridge and microwave). Please be aware that the rooms are small compared to what you would get at most other hotels, but if all you are doing is using them to sleep, this could work for you as it did for us.
The two elevators are also very small and fit four people tightly. We had to make a couple trips to get our luggage to the room.
There is no temperature control in the rooms, so when the heat is on for the winter, it is ON. The only way to cool the room is to open the windows. Since it was an older building, there was also a pipe banging sound when the heat kicked in.
The bathroom was small, and the water pressure was on the lower side, but they made an effort to have an updated look. Plenty of hot water.
On the plus side, the neighborhood felt very safe and the staff is friendly. The hotel is close to the 79th Street subway station. There are many stores in the area, as well as restaurants. It is also only a few blocks from Central Park. If you are driving, it is very easy to get to. Overall, I asked my kids and they would stay here again. The size is small, but it is difficult to beat the price and the location.

This is the smallest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in in my life. I’ve stayed in small hotel rooms in Lisbon, Portugal and London, England yet this hotel won the smallest hotel room award by a mile. The sink in the bathroom was so small that every time I washed my face, water would spill onto the floor below. The bathroom in general is incredibly small, so small that you could literally stick your head and arm out of the shower and pick up the remote control next to the tv in the adjacent room and change the channel. The main bonus for this hotel is the location, the upper Westside of Manhattan. There are supermarkets such as Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s not too far away and a subway station about 3 blocks away. Times Square is about 10-15 minutes away by subway as well as the MOMA which is about 25 minutes away by foot. The hotel is located in an extremely quiet neighborhood by NYC standards, but it is still New York so be aware of your surroundings at all times. This is the type of place you come back to from a long day of sightseeing or whatever other reason brought you to NYC.

My daughter and I stayed here while checking out local colleges. We got the “suite”, not that i was expecting anything palacial but this was smaller than most single rooms I have been in. It also said it sleeps four with a queen and two twin befs yet there was only a twin and well more like a full. Shower was not super strong yet the drain backed up in seconds. I didnt see any a/c or a thermostat but being on the 16th floor we def didnt need heat.. pretty hot. Overall it served its purpose, it was a place to sleep and clean up. Nothing else. The people were great and very accommodating.

Run- down & dirty

My room & second floor hall: Torn& dirty carpet, dirty baseboards, beat- up furniture/walls/woodwork. Excessive heat, had to get help opening a window so I could breathe- torn screen. Gave service 3* for helping with this, plus the commode that wouldn't flush & also leaked on the floor. Noisy pipes & thin walls. Reservation said \"city view\" but my room overlooked a bunch of pipes, etc. that made noise all night. Got some earplugs, decided my 'view' was the least of my worries- shame on the lady that checked me in & did this, though, especially since I made the reservation 2 1/2 months ago. She gave me the worst of the worst, I think. Elevator scary... it shot up to the 17th fl. & opened to a boarded -up wall...thankful to make it back down & out for the day. Also filthy walls & door, with torn carpet- just don't use the elevator. Flimsy door with old keyed lock- no hotel lock or chain, no peep hole. Awakened@1:30am once with someone trying to get a key in & shaking the knob. So disappointed in this hotel- no price deal can compensate for this environment.

The Wifi did not work most of the time! There was a coffee shop/café listed in amenities but it was vacant and closed. The room is bare minimum for the price.

my stay was fine, and the view lovely but the television service was annoying. the only news channel available was fox, msnbc and cnn and pbs were scrambled. not good.

Good for the price

The Riverside Tower is fine for its price. This is not a luxury hotel but the place is clean, the shower was good and the wifi was excellent (in fact better than in more expensive places where we have stayed in New York). Nice, quiet neighborhood near the Hudson River. Breakfast places nearby and good public transportation options. Checkout at 12 was very convenient. Staff very professional.

Old but good find!

This hotel is old and looks outdated but it's clean with friendly staff and in a great location. I stayed here solo for two nights and would stay here again. My room was very small but it still felt comfortable. The walls seem a bit thin but everyone on my floor was a family with young children or seniors, so it was pretty quiet. WiFi and cable were good.

Tiny \"suite\" of two very small rooms with tiny bathroom. For one night it worked fine for two of us. Quite worn and though not super clean, the bathroom was very clean with some newer tiling.Location was good for our purposes in NYC this trip and we enjoyed a walk to the boat basin and Riverside Park. Not quite the bargain we expected for $200.

Great location !!!

I stayed for 2 nights and had a pretty okay experience the staff were very friendly and the hotel was in a great location. The only negative thing would be the hotel is in dire need of some work. It’s an old hotel that needs some remodeling but for the price you can’t complain too much

Sad Conditions with Great Potential

The hotel was safe but hasn't been updated probably since the 1960s so the lobby, halls, elevators, rooms so tired and depressing. The pillows, bedding and bed were so old and lumpy that they were simply awful. The view of the Hudson River was lovely. I would do my best not to stay there again. Staff was nice but for $200 not even a hair dryer in the room--had to request from front desk. Very run down.

Favorite place to stay in NYC

I love the Riverside Tower. It's two blocks from Zabar's, convenient to the #1 Line subway, and right on the river. This trip I was lucky to have a room on the 15th floor looking out across the Hudson at New Jersey. A million dollar view for $144 a night. The room is incredibly rudimentary - like sleeping in your closet - but clean and comfortable. I'd stay here every time I visited New York, except it's usually booked with nothing available.

room was very small no parking around except a parking unit that was 56 a day and water in room had little to no pressure i could go on but im not writing a book.
